Had a wonderful time here last night. We decided on wine and small plates /starters. It was around 6:30 when we are, but when we made plans earlier in the day, we didn’t know how busy it would be so we made a reservation. It was not busy when we got there — lots of seating available, but I have seen this place very busy so better save than sorry We got a cute, private booth in the back and even though I arrived after, I was seated promptly. Our server was fantastic! She had recommendations ready to go from wine to appetizers to food. She was knowledge and so friendly. We had four glasses of wine total, three white and a rose. All recommended. Loved them. For food: crap dip, local pig sausage(this changes every week), a cheese which we went with the recommended cremeux de Bourgogne triple crème, fra and crispy braised bacon tacos. All excellent. I can’t stress enough how you have to get recommendations

Wow! What great service and knowledge of wines! We only went for drinks and appetizers to kick off our anniversary but we were blown away by how wonderful our server and the manager treated us. As soon as the manager heard it was our wedding anniversary he served us each a free glass of champagne. It’s a pretty penny but worth every bit!

Great atmosphere. One of the better wine selections I have seen at a wine bar. Large selections of wines by the glass. If you like wine do yourself a favor and have a glass of vino here. I had the Madeira flight. Love it, who has this.

The wine list at this unassuming gem a short walk from the Hilton in downtown Kansas City is pretty amazing. You can have a taste of some amazing vintages not found anywhere else in the state. I tried a number of glasses, including Malbec, a beautiful Barolo and a great Sauvignon Blanc. But Tannin is more than just a fine wine list. The kitchen is capable of turning out great dishes. On the two nights I visited, I tried a salmon dish solidly prepared and their version of the burger. The burger fell a bit short as it was overcooked(I prefer a medium temperature but it was more on the medium well tier). The fries were good but not spectacular. Overall, however, this is an impressive neighborhood place with an amazing wine list and a fantastic kitchen. In addition, the service is stellar and knowledgeable without being fussy. I’m looking forward to my next tasting session.

Very nice wine bar with an excellent menu. Butternut squash is fantastic. Burger with a fried egg is very good. Cheese plates and wine list are very good. Great service by our waiter.

What a fantastic experience! Beautiful cozy space with candles make this a classy and comfortable spot to enjoy a full dinner or small bites to pair any of their many wine choices. Extensive selection of awesome wines by the glass, representing styles and regions very nicely. You can get smaller pours and also flights if you want to try a variety. I enjoyed a bottle of blaüfrankisch that was priced very attractively, along with a couple tastes of some great European whites. The food was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered: Scampi small plate was AWESOME, especially with the grauburgunder from Germany. Crab dip with perfectly toasted baguette was delicious and rich. Lobster risotto with crispy rendered bacon lardons and shaved Parmesan, perfect. Pork chop entrée was incredibly tender and flavorful. They even split it for us, and presented it beautifully. Really solid dish! Best of all, the staff are friggin awesome people. Jeanette, Jim & Barry all made our evening. Thanks for the great experience!

I absolutely love Kansas City! They have a large variety of wonderful things to experience. This last trip was a lil bit less joyful because of the experience I had from this restaurant. We came here because it was in close walking distance from my friend’s apartment. First ordered an app of fries, that was good. A couple of interesting things happened from ordering food to receiving it. Our server delivered our silverware to us and then the front help took it away and gave us silverware without napkins. She was DETERMINED! To make sure she did what she did, it just made us laugh. Then we received our food. My burger came with no ketchup so as everyone eating I had to wait for the server to come back to the table and shout for her name to get her attention to get the ketchup. Finally it arrived quickly and I got to enjoy my burger. It tasted like any other average burger, which I have had better, much better! There was nothing special about it and to top it off I was in SO much pain after eating the burger and received no sleep the rest of the night because of the pain my stomach was in after dinner. My friend ordered a chicken dish and it wasn’t as tasty as I expected. Just didn’t taste good so I totally get why she didn’t finish her meal and take it home. In the past I had only ordered the cheese dishes here which they are really good! So if you come here just order drinks and apps. Stay away from the burger and chicken.

Appetizers, we had lump crab dip and the fruit /cheese platter — wow. totally amazing. Entrees, we had pork shank, potatoes and free range chicken. spectacular. Drinks, awesome! Dessert, fudge-stuffed Elvis cookie — OUTOFTHISWORLD! Price? Astronomical! Way overpriced.

Not too impressed with the food here. For appetizers the risotto as well as the lump crab dip were really bland. Salt and pepper were definitely necessary! For an entrée I got the lamb. Most of it was fatty parts. Barely got any actual meat. My parents got the burgers and they were good but nothing special. My boyfriend got the pork shank and the meat was good but the mashed potatoes also lacked seasoning. All in all — these guys need to learn the importance of salt and pepper!

My fiancé and I have been to Tannin serveral times now. When the weather is nice, the patio is such a great happy hour option! The food is great as well. On this last visit I had the roasted chicken. It was the perfectly cooked and paired with sesonal vegtables. My fiancé had the prok chop and thought it was really good as well. While the meals were great, the cheese is really where it is at! I know $ 18 may seem pricey, but we got some great cheeses– honey almond chevre, aged manchego and a white cheddar– that came with a mound of bread, fruits and nuts. We would come back just for that. The only disappointing part for us was the glass of wines menu. They had a ton of bottles to choose from, however we both wanted to try a few different things. My fiancé tried both of the cabs and thought they were kind of dull and lacking that cab flavor. I tried a Malbec and it was a good wine, but nothing great. I guess for a wine bar, we were hoping for some unique wines with flavor. They had these options in bottles, but not glasses. Because we wanted different types of wines that night, we did not want to purchase a bottle. For a wine bar I assumed there would be more by the glass options. Overall a great place and we will be back!

LOVE this place. Came here a bunch when they first opened 6 – 7 years ago and then moved out of town. I make it a point to stop back in when I’m in town and it’s just as awesome as ever :).

One of the best dining out experiences I’ve had in some time and I eat out almost every meal. Great staff and service. Cool ambiance. Did the restaurant week option. The pork cheeks app were delicious. Salmon w fennel was very good. Chocolate chip doughnut bread pudding dessert was pretty decent. Def the best eats while in KC. Look forward to coming back.

My best friend and I saddled up to the bar on a Sunday night. We were greeted by various bartenders/waitstaff, but we’re served by Richard. He was helpful in every sense. My buddy is a wine aficionado and she was very impressed with the wine list. She had a short pour of various reds and bubbles. She was super impressed with the variety and Richard worked with her on selection. It was also BOGO bottle night, AND they can legally recork opened bottles! We split the curry cauliflower and the burger. Both were fantastic! The burger was moist, salty and just delicious. The fries were solid. We had the dessert special: fried pie with brown butter ice cream. It was also awesome. Then! Richard told us to try Rieger Hotel Restaurant the next night. It was awesome advice.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner last night and we both rated it as a three star place. The décor is cozy and very stylish. Their wine selection is great, and our waitress was really sweet and helpful and did a wonderful job. The food, however, was not great. I ordered the roast chicken. It was extremely salty and very dry. The roasted vegetables on my plate were good, but the gnocchi was mushy and had the consistency of baby food. My boyfriend ordered the wagyu burger and said it was pretty good. He ordered it medium and had blood drain out onto his plate after the first two bites, which made it seem a little undercooked to me for his order– but he seemed ok with it. We ordered a bottle of wine that the waitress suggested and it was crisp and refreshing. Something we truly enjoyed about the meal. For dessert, we topped it off with a strawberry lemon napoleon which was light, tasty and delicious. I’m not sure if we will come here for a full dinner again, but could definitely see us stopping in for happy hour or drinks and dessert.

Stopped here for dinner before heading to the Music Hall. Although I didn’t even have wine(I know, I know!) I enjoyed the appetizer(french fries… my friends choice) and my entrée. I was scared because my friend is a terribly picky eater. Picky in that, she eats NOTHING that is out of the ordinary. She settled on the one«normal» thing for her… the cheeseburger. I tried the roasted trout. It was delicious… although the pesto on top was outrageous in my opinion. Just way too much for the plate. Our service was extremely SLOW… so slow that we arrived late for the show and had to sit in the foyer for the first 10 minutes. Ugh. The restaurant was not nearly full at all… no other tables were occupied around us and most everyone there was drinking wine on the patio. I will definitely come back again, but will probably have a nice app and some wine!

This place just rocks. Been coming for years, always greeted with a smile(or a glass) and always treated like royalty. It’s not just the best wine menu in KC, the food will make you want to change your last name :) Try the veg dish of the moment, or go classic and get an excellently prepared steak(whatever’s up). BOGO bottles of wine Sunday and Monday. Half price wines by the glass on weekdays.(A girl can sneak away, right?) Ready for bonus points? Get on their email list to be invited to wine tastings, where $ 60 – 70 gets you five courses and five(full) glasses of wine.

Finally got to tannin. The ambiance is lovely. We ended up at the bar because it started raining when we were sitting outdoors. The bar tenders were great, were helpful. I just loved how calm the restaurant was and it kind of had a Christmas at home feel even though it was the middle of May. We just got a few glasses of wine and the lump crab dip, which was just enough for two but was very good. I’ll be coming back because of the atmosphere

Oh Tannin, Oh Tannin how you confuse me so! There are really good dishes at Tannin but also not so good. So the Crab dip is amazing, and I would highly recommend it. I also got some cured salmon, and I would have to say I will pass on this item next time. But the short ribs are decadent and delicious and the French toast dessert is small but oh so good. I usually do the pairing with the tasting menu. I discovered I truly love this place. It has its ups and downs, but all in all, most of my experiences here have been pleasant and I really appreciate their abilities in pairing the perfect wine with a dish. The ambiance here is upscale, but not pretentious. I really love the décor and it’s just a neat place to go. Love the wine, food and atmosphere.

Went for restaurant week and did not disappoint! I LOVE this place! So glad it is in KC! My friend and I both got something different off of the 3 course menu and EVERYTHING was incredible! The atmosphere is beautiful and great for an intimate party as well as large groups. The service was wonderful and she was laid back and knowledgable on wine and the food. Cant wait to go back for happy hour soon!

Enjoyed this spot’s ambiance and wine the most! I had the mussels with fennel and the jumbo crab dip. I could have done without the jumbo crab dip it was flavorless and tasted and looked more like clam chowder. Oh but the mussels!!! The mussels were popping with flavor phenomenal. Looks like a great date night place due to the ambiance.
