Nice spot for a drink before or after a show, but a solid bar that can stand on its own for a not-too-rowdy night out. Good cocktails, cozy atmosphere.

Fun local swing dance scene on Friday night! The bar and dance floor is connected to the theatre so there is an interesting crowd mix. Cocktails are decent, bar staff was friendly and attentive, and they serve food late! The food was just right for a hungry dancer.

Went with some friends for Salsa night on Saturday — it was great ! Good crowd, great dancers, and great prices on drinks(well I can only comment on the beer) !!! Beer $ 3.50−5 or more for craft. Will definitely go again !

Best swing nights around! The Chesterfield does a West Coast Wednesday, East Coast and Lindy on Fridays and it is so fun. The same crowd always come out so you can make some new friends if you love to dance. People are very nice and tend to ask newbies to dance too. If you are a new dancer come at 8pm for the free class then hit the floor and don’t be shy! At least once a month there is a live band. The whole event if free but they do ask for donations to keep the fun going every week. Bar drink prices are pretty typical.

Nice little place next to the movies. Came here on a Saturday night for salsa class for beginners at 9pm. The class was about 40 mins and we paid 5 $ per person. We also came here with a MEETUP group so it was pretty tight practicing. I ordered a mojito to warm me up, and it did just that. It was $ 10 for a slender cup. I’m use to the bar prices in some other area so this is pretty pricey for the amount given. They didn’t have any flavors to add to the drink. My bartender seemed new or a bit lost. It took a while to be helped. Didn’t see any drink menus or was offered or told about anything else here. Pretty basic bar. Salsa was very simple but fun once you have a drink. Come here to meet and greet maybe or small conversation. I will only be back to dance that is all.

Before it was called Marquee bar but nothing has changed except the owners. I loved going there on Saturday nights for Salsa. The music is always pretty good, many people to dance with(there is always a couple of weird dirty old men but if you go Salsa dancing often enough you can spot them everywhere). Drinks are not bad, and no cover charge for Salsa nights!

The office holiday party was a smashing success. Chance and Alexis were great at communicating with me leading up to the big day. The staff on hand that night were attentive and professional. Everyone loved the food and the bartenders did a fantastic job. The holiday music and videos above the bar set the mood just right. Thanks for helping me pull off a terrific party.

One of the best happy hours in town. Great specials All week and half off certain items Monday thru Thursday. Like half off all pizza, burgers, or salads n wraps, or appetizers, all really good. And you can take a drink or food into the movie with you, if you want. Speaking of the movies, the concession prices are a fraction of other theaters. unlimited popcorn with real butter $ 5. Sodas $ 3 with free refills.

First of all, I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for seven years. So let me just say that I’m totally cool with nude beaches and individuals choosing to don their birthday suits during any number of public parades. I also don’t have a problem with people who choose to watch porn in the comfort of their own homes. However, what I do have a problem with(and you’re probably beginning to wonder what this has to do with a bar) is soft core porn being played on a television in a public bar. I went to a show at the Alamo Drafthouse and my friends and we started out in the Chesterfield bar area. It was 7 pm on a Thursday night. All of a sudden I noticed on one of the TV screens a clearly unconscious woman, fully nude, with men standing around her. Her breasts and part of her vagina were exposed on screen for around 3 – 4 minutes. When I stated my level of discomfort for this, the channel was not changed nor did anyone working offer to change it. This is terrible customer service. If the bar wants to create a vibe that’s crude, disrespectful to women, and leaves some paying female patrons feeling unsafe, then that’s the business owner’s choice and he won’t be getting my dollars. But this establishment should have enough respect and a high enough level of customer service to change the channel if something on screen clearly makes a patron uncomfortable. At least I can choose not to go to bars that are specifically geared toward this kind of «entertainment.» But I don’t expect to see porn walking into the bar at a movie theater. At least now those who didn’t know, do, and can make the choice for themselves.

They have turned an entire side of the bar into a kitchen area. This makes it hard for non-dancing observers to find a spot to sit, drink, and enjoy the music and dancing. Also, last time we came in here, things were just messy and chaotic. This used to be one of my favorite Saturday nights in Kansas City. Too bad it’s going downhill, as nothing else in the city really compares. I miss The Marquis.

Very cool bar in a bad space. They serve classic, delicious cocktails(try the Ward 8). We came for their happy hour, which is $ 3 off classic cocktails and other specials. The wait staff was SO friendly and really knowledgeable — really liked our bartender. The pizza apps were great. I have to say, the space wasn’t my favorite. It was weird being in a movie theater and the extremely high ceilings caused it to lose some of its cozy /intimate appeal. Would definitely go back for happy hour. 190⁄365

A very cool bar attached to an Alamo Drafthouse that took over a beautiful, old-school theater in Downtown Kansas City. The Chesterfield’s emphasis is on quality, phohibition-era cocktails like Sazeracs and Sidecars. They do a good job at them, too. I came here for pub quiz, but the large bar also accommodated what I can only describe as a nerd meet-up with people much smarter than I bringing their homemade 3D-printers and anamatronic, remote-control tails to show-off to other nerds. My friend and I talked to them and they were all cool in explaining their state-of-the-odd inventions. Definitely a cool place to check out if ever in downtown Kansas City, a place that I definitely have underestimated in its coolness.

This place is a nice change from the normal bar scene near P&L. The décor is classy and relaxed(best combination ever!), with a really kind wait/bar staff. The one time I’ve been on a night with live music was phenomenal. It was a snowy, Friday night in February and barely anyone there but the band brought it! Plus, you can order anything from the Alamo Drafthouse Menu and there is something very comforting(albeit strange on my part) about being able to order a bourbon with a plate of chocolate chip cookies at 1am.

As a card-carrying member of Geekdom(I have a Torchwood license plate… yes, my geekiness knows no bounds), I was really excited to find out about Geeks Who Drink trivia nights at The Chesterfield. Along with two of my fellow geek friends, we headed there on Thursday night(Geeks Who Drink happens every Thursday night here) prepared to blow everyone out of the water with our extensive knowledge of all things geeky. We went early to take advantage of their happy hour but were disappointed when we found out only a few drinks were offered for happy hour, not the ones in their menu. We did get a couple of appetizers: the hot pretzel and nachos. Both were ok, but we were all starving, so I can’t be a good judge. The nachos were meh, but the hot pretzel definitely didn’t get wasted. The Chesterfield itself still looks good, I don’t think they changed much from when it was The Marquee. Not a lot of tables and lots of space. We snagged one of the ½ circle booths that line the perimeter walls. Our server wasn’t the fastest gal around and her attention was a little off… coming every couple of minutes to check on us at times(bordering on annoying), then wouldn’t even look our way others. She just seemed a little flakey. By the end, I got two drinks, a pretzel, and a small pizza for $ 30 + tip. Ok, I guess but considering the food wasn’t amazing, probably a little overpriced. The drink was about half the size of what it should have been. It came in the tiniest of tiny drink glasses and wasn’t even full. About two solid sips and it was empty. The worst part, though, was the trivia wasn’t even filled with geeky questions. Not one category or question about Star Wars, Star Trek, Video Games, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Games… nothing! I mean, it’s a Geek night… have at least a COUPLE of questions related to something geeky. What started out as excitement about finding people who were like us turned into a big disappointment.

Love this bar and the entire look and feel. It’s not pretentious. We went on a couple of nights when there were large groups there to dance, and when there was a wonderful singer onstage performing some classic songs and really looked the part. The bar has table seating, a handful of couches/booths and of course bar seating. Service has been excellent the many times we’ve been there. We prefer to go to bars when there are things to do and see, so I’d really like for them to host more events(like the performer/dancing mentioned above, or for a while they were hosting burlesque nights, etc.). More events would get us in the door more often.

The bar has a very open and bright layout, a handful of cozy table, a couple of long high-tops, a couple of quad high tops and plenty of bar space. The staff is friendly and attentive. The menu is the same as the Alamo Drafthouse Theater menu. I attended for trivia night which was interactive and fun(although I wish our team did a little better). I would for sure like to check out one of the burlesque shows and attend a happy hour. The Chesterfield offers a discount on your first drink with your movie receipt as well. If I was headed out to hang out in a bar I would probably pick one of the other area ones but this is a decent option for trivia or before/after a movie at the amazing Alamo.

I rarely come here bc for some reason I only ever think about it on Monday when it’s CLOSED! Why is everything in KC closed on Monday? *sigh* that’s a whole other entry. Anywho, I came here again on a Monday thinking new management would equal new hours — guess not. Whatever! I do like coming here though when I can catch them open. It’s really laid back and not douchebaggy like the rest of P&L. However, there is one bartender that stayed w/the change in mgmt and he can be a real douche bag. I don’t know his name but he acts like he’s God’s gift to bar tending. I enjoy myself on any night I come and he’s not there. Music is snazzy. Just a real chill place for nights I’d rather drink something fancy instead of beer.

Much like the Alamo, I suspect I will bump this up later. There are decent beers on tap and I like the cocktails available, but it is somewhat of a carryover from the previously established place in this space. There also must have been happy hour pricing in place because our drinks were half the listed price. We were there around 6 p.m. on a Tuesday. I had a French 75 and an Aviator. French 75 is great if you like lemon and sparking wine … which I do. Aviator has a violet liquor making it very floral(duh!). It was ok, but probably won’t try it again. We chatted with the bartender a bit. He told us there are plans to do a bit of an overhaul on the place and add in more beer taps. This makes sense given it’s tied to the Alamo Drafthouse and draft to me means beer! To say the least, I look forward to and seeing what Alamo can make of the place given this is the third or fourth re-launch.

I can’t recommend this place enough. Whether you are waiting for a movie or just looking for a comfortable place to have some drinks and maybe a nosh downtown, then the Chesterfield is for you. The setting is good with a lot of lounging options. They have bar seating, High-top tables and comfy couches. I found the food menu inventive without being off-putting, my drinks were wonderful. and the staff was top notch. My server(Heather) was very professional and friendly. Thursday nights they have Geek who Drink trivia, which I think is a lot of fun.
