Spool has one of the most interesting collections of jewelry that I’ve seen in a boutique, all made by local artisans. Upon entering, my friend, Miss Carolyn T, immediately spied a pair of giant deer cutout earrings in some kind of thin metal(how the hell do I describe them?)…hmmm come to think of it, they look like deer GOBO earrings. And then there were the earrings with animal bones and skulls, which of course, I adore, seeing as I have a collection of animal bones that I’m just not sure what to do with. I always end up dropping them and having bone fragments all over my shelf. It’s very glamorous, I assure you. I also have a tiny collection of the tiniest penis bones, gifted to me by Miss Sheena B of Brooklyn. Mink, raccoon, rat and uhhhh, some other rodent. I love my bones! I’m very inspired now(to go look at them and not break them). This jeweler does magical things with her bone collection, and she shares them with us. I didn’t look too closely at the ladies clothing, but it all appeared quite lovely. I was just too busy being dazzled by the bone jewelry. Be sure and check out this unique shop, conveniently located next to Birdies where you can buy some divine lingerie to go with your rat skull choker. That’s hot. You can appear wearing this get up with the deer earring GOBO lit up behind you and seduce just about anyone. On a related note, know a baby who’s destined to be a punk rocker? Of course you do. Check out Spool! One entire wall is dedicated to the coolest punk rock baby T’s and onesies I’ve ever seen.

Love, love, love Spool! One of the cutest boutiques in KC. Great selection of totally unique clothes, jewelry, bags and super stylie baby goods at crazy reasonable prices. A treasure.

This is another cute little Crossroads boutique. Some stuff by local designers and other stuff from afar. Some very artsy stuff, not for all tastes, but stop by anyway if you’re in the area. If nothing else you can marvel at the adorable individualistic baby clothes. Aww…

I really love 18th street with its little shops and coffee houses. The 4 or so shops in this building are especially cool. The store is as small as a shoebox, but it carries local designer fashions as well as stuff from Japan and elsewhere. Very unique, very artsy, very crossroads! Only complaint is the small selection of guys stuff. Get more!
