Very clean and friendly staff. Stick to sushi and onion soup. Hibachi is less than mediocre.

THEBESTSUSHIINTHENORTHLAND! Every time I come here the sushi is awesome, the service is awesome, and I have a great time. If I could give Mr. Le’s 6⁄5 stars, I would. The service staff is very friendly, and the establishment seems clean. I would recommend the Jessica roll, spicy tuna is also a favorite.

We found the sushi to be very good and prices to be reasonable. Service was good and attentive. We particularly enjoyed the Lisa Roll and the Alaska Roll though we added cream cheese to the Alaska roll which had smoked salmon. Egg rolls were pretty good not much to the green salad but for $ 1.50 what do you expect? We will go back. Business was brisk. Another good sign

I moved here from Baltimore. Ive been to Japan, and Korea(military) and Ive had Sushi in a dozen or so other non land locked states. Want overpriced chain resteraunt to impress your date, go to RA or one of the others. Want amazing sushi? Than come here. You see the reviews, its in a bum stripmall. Why? Because they put their money into the food. Awe you didnt like the décor? Go to skme high end place and spend twice as much for pretty décor and substandard service. Ill stick with a family owned place that puts its efforts into the food, and not catering to yuppies.

My absolute favorite Sushi place in KC. It’s small and in an off location but it’s very good! Family run business and very friendly. They are quick and have a lot of variety. My favorite is that they offer Phở soup. Best Phở I have ever had!

Good sushi fairly priced. Their Bento Box Lunch Special is a really good value.

While the décor left a lot to be desired, the sushi was actually pretty good. The stand out roll was the spicy tuna. The daikon maki was ok, but I felt the radish was a little thick. Overall, I would likely stick with spicy rolls if I were to eat here again. Not a bad place for sushi in a land locked state, but there is better sushi to be found in the Kansas City area.

Mr. Le’s is always a favorite with our group! If your looking for a clean, well kept dining establishment with knowledgeable, friendly staff, with of course excellent food. This is the place. Affordable, quality menu items. Never have we had poor service or poor quality food. Just a little, unassuming place off Parvin Rd. Not a place to go if you’re expecting music playing & an entertaining décor. This is a place for good food & good conversation.

Don’t let the location(sketchy strip mall) fool you, this restaurant is a hidden gem. The sushi was as good as anything I’ve had in kc, we had a very friendly and attentive waiter, and even the presentation of the food was impressive. The prices are slightly higher than the places I’m used to going(in the lee’s summit area), but nothing ridiculous high. The inside of the restaurant isn’t the greatest looking place, but it’s clean and casual. My biggest complaint is that it was soooo silent that talking felt kind of awkward. I’m going to be living right down the street from here in a month, and I have a feeling it’s going to be our new regular hang. Overall, I’d recommend it.

My girlfriend and I are regulars. The place is the best! Love the Bruce roll and the phở ga! We honestly can’t get enough of this place. The crab Rangoon is probably the best I’ve ever had! If you’re looking for some fancy pinkys up sushi this is NOT the place, but if you’re looking for GREATFOOD then this is where you need to go!

The first thought from the outside is «Uh, oh. Is it safe to proceed?» I mean KC is a long way from any ocean and sushi has to be amazingly fresh and carefully prepared. The somewhat rundown strip mall location does not breed confidence, and the interior décor doesn’t do much to dispel the discomfort. But relax. They know what they’re doing. The service is prompt, the place is clean, prices reasonable and most importantly, the food is fresh and delicious. I started with the seaweed salad and followed that up with the onion soup and mixed sashimi. I’ll be back to explore the menu further.

The location and outward appearance of the restaurant is deceiving. The food was delicious. Absolutely delicious. I had the onion soup, salmon sashimi, spicy tuna hand roll & volcano roll. Prices were also reasonable.

Great first impression. Came in at opening time on a Friday and the place filled up pretty fast. Now I know why. Tasty, well presented and ample, at a reasonable cost. Add this to prompt, kind service, and we have a winner. It would be easy for me to overeat here. I’d like to try the whole menu. Shame I can’t do it in one sitting. I’ll be back.

I was underwhelmed with Mr. Le’s. I went for dinner on a Sunday evening. The place was extremely quiet. No music playing. Just the sound of talking employees and a family that were the only other customers there. The atmosphere is hole-in-the-wall. We tried an order of edamame, and I had a shrimp tempura roll. It was all okay. But Kansas city has a lot of better sushi to offer. If you live in the area and you just want to stick close to home, this is an acceptable choice for a sushi fix!

An associate suggested this place for a quick bite for lunch. was definitely skeptical, just because I have a rather low expectations for seafood in the Midwest, especially if the price is to my liking… that is just a sure dead-give-away for disappointment. Or so I thought. My roommate did decide to go with the sashimi plate. From its appearance, I feel reluctant to try it. But he said he gives it the seal of approval, so I take his words for it. I, however, see that this place is run by Vietnamese, so I immediately sought to try their Vietnamese dishes, aka, phở. There is no other dish that is more symbolic of Vietnamese in American than a bowl of deliciousness. And I am glad that I went this route. For merely $ 7.50ish, I get to enjoy a decent sized bowl of phở that just hit the spot after a hectic morning at work. Though I know Ipho-Tower gives a little bit more, but it is also about $ 2 more expensive. And seeing that it is literally like a 5 min drive from work, I may just frequent this place, especially winter time, when I need that warm bowl of phở to hug me so dear that I would forget about the harsh winter.

Not where you’d find a sushi restaurant but looks can be deceiving. Minimal décor in a seedy location but look past that and enjoy the sushi and viet food that this hidden hole in the wall gem has to offer!

Not the typical look, or area for a sushi restaurant. A friend suggested the place, and I’ll have to admit we did a couple drive byes to make sure everything was ok. We decided to take a chance, to add to the anxiety, it was past lunchtime, and we were the only people in the place. It’s a very simple décor, smallish, but it works, and we were presently surprised that the sushi was fresh and the variety was more than most places. Went with the Mike and Joe rolls. If you’re looking for something a tad bit different, the soy paper on Mike’s roll is tasty. The Joe roll has avocado, and salmon… a great sushi combination… Don’t let the exterior cause you concern, the sushi is very good and worth the try.

Visiting Kansas City on business and a friend of mine brought me here. I didn’t even look at Unilocal and just went in blind! As we sat down it was a pleasant surprise to see such a good rating for sushi in a land-locked state. FAST review Food– The sushi is amazing! The Stacey roll with the white tuna tasted super clean and melted in your mouth. The mango roll is also amazing. No rice and wrapped in daikon radish kind of like a naruto roll. The pickly crunch of the daikon radish was super balanaced with the fresh fish and sweetness of the mango. If you want a cooked sushi, the Shannon roll was excellent. It’s bbq’d eel and battered and fried softshell crap. Great crunch with salty and sweet flavors. Ambience– Hole in the wall, looks family owned. No frills, but their food is presented very artfully and kept clean. Service– Waiter was prompt and very chill. Made good suggestions on sushi Tip– Don’t let the mom and pop shop look turn you away. This is legit sushi. I will definitely try and make it out here next time I’m in town.

A fellow Unilocaler suggested Mr. Le’s since we were both in the mood for sushi. She did not steer us wrong! I will admit I was apprehensive of ambitious restaurants that tackle two or more cuisines. If you can get past the locale and the décor(or lack thereof), you’ll find that they have yummy sushi for reasonable pricing along with friendly and quick service. They have your typical sushi menu including combo plates, nigiri, 17 standard rolls as well as over 30 special rolls. I really liked their ‘816’ roll. I’m still debating whether I want to brave the waters in trying their Vietnamese menu or Japanese entrees. We shall see; for now skip the appetizers, and go straight for the sushi!

Yes it’s a four-star review. Yes I am a fan. But… I definitely have to be in the right mindset and temper my expectations to enjoy a visit to Mr Le’s, because for as good as the sushi might be the restaurant itself seems to have negative atmosphere. It’s almost aggressively lacking in anything resembling comfort or design. The place says they serve sushi and Vietnamese food, which for some I’m sure is a red flag, but I’m not picky. I’ve never had anything from the Vietnamese side of the menu, but the sushi has always been pretty good. Everything tastes Midwest-fresh, they have a large nigiri menu, and just a silly number of specialty rolls — however, most of these are fried or tempura or just not things I’d consider sushi-proper. A ton of them are named after people, and I got a «Matt Roll»(because, duh) and it was delicious! I also liked the rainbow roll, and our spicy scallop roll was fantastic. I was not the biggest fan of one of their other special rolls that came in a soy wrap, but the date liked it so I wouldn’t write it off. Four rolls and two orders of nigiri came to $ 60 after tax. Not bad at all. But man, the atmosphere! First of all, it’s in the saddest strip mall of all time. If you were asking for photographic evidence of a depressed economy, you’d shoot a pic of this strip mall. When you enter, it’s a little bit better, but not much. Now, not every place has to be impeccably designed, but a little effort might not hurt. Also, playing music rather than a TV set to Hollywood Game Night would be a step up. It’s important to note that the service is always friendly and efficient, and the sushi comes out quickly. I like this place, but it’s not somewhere you take a date to impress them, but rather after you’ve already got him or her on lockdown and just want to feast on some good sushi on the cheap. Check it out!
