Amazing sushi… period. David the owner made three fabulous rolls for us; my favorite being the Tiger Roll. Easy to find location with quick made to order sushi. I’ll definitely be making a second visit!

I heard about this from my teammate so I tried it out with my friend. It was Monday and we got there around 11:30am. There was about 3 tables with 3 chairs for each inside and there were tables outside. There was also a to-go frig on the side with food ready to pick up if you didn’t want to wait. We were the first ones in there which was good so we could decide what to order. The menu had a lot of items and there was even descriptions for each one. I ordered the Spider Roll($ 8.00), the Spicy Roll($ 5.50), and made my own roll(seaweed, tuna, salmon, cucumber, avocado, and spicy mayo sauce). My friend ordered the Eel Roll($ 5.50), the Rainbow Roll($ 8.50), and made her own roll(seaweed, salmon, carrots, cucumber, and spicy mayo sauce). They gave us free miso soup in a cup which was as good as miso soup can be. Our food was ready pretty quick since we were the only ones there. The Spicy Roll was good but the mayo overpowered the rest of the sushi roll. The spicy mayo sauce wasn’t spicy so don’t be afraid to order it. The roll I made was pretty good as well; however, I didn’t like the Spider Roll. That was probably my first time having fried softshell crab and it had a very distinct flavor. It might have been just me, but I didn’t like that taste one bit. The taste kind of lingers in your mouth so it would be a good idea to either drink something or shuffle down some other sushi in your mouth to get that taste out. I ended up throwing the rest of it away which was a waste. I tried my friend’s Eel Roll and that was delicious. I liked that one and the Spicy Roll out of everything I tried. I will probably be back to try other items on the menu. Great place to get your sushi fix!

My local go-to sushi place downtown. The fish is fresh and delicious and well-prepared. The service is quick and super-friendly.

When I’m craving sushi but am either solo or too lazy to go to a restaurant I’ll grab the pre-rolled stuff from Cosentino’s but always regret it after. It’s better than this place. This place is off the charts nasty. Maybe it’s just what I ordered which was a spider roll but I don’t know if I have the will to try it again. I did enjoy my miso soup which I was able to consume before my roll was done. But I almost threw up in my mouth on my second bite of the sushi. I only took two more bites following because I was really hungry & I paid for it — it wasn’t even good on an empty stomach. I’m noticing a lot of people mention its convenience to Rivermarket. Sometimes convenience isn’t always a good thing. Go to RA in Leawood — you’ll be happy you made the drive.

This is a very convenient and delicious place to grab some quality sushi for a night in or a quick bite before a night on the town.

I’ve changed my mind about this place. I’m decidedly a fan. It may not have all of the trappings of a sit-down sushi restaurant, but its product can stand up to most any other sushi place I’ve visited in town. I go here quite often, and even when it is busy, they are quick to get out quality rolls. They do a great job, and I’d suggest checking them out.

Just opened recently in the Rivermarket! I’m so glad that there is sushi here! No more having to deal with the crappy service, brain-jarringly loud music, and overpriced sushi of Drunkenfish or Nara. This place is also one of the rare Rivermarket restaurants open for dinner on weeknights and the weekend! Sushi by Me! Had fast service, even during the busy weekend farmers market. The owner is very friendly and was helpful to the customers. The focus seems to be on to-go sushi, so there are many grab-and-go options as well as a variety of menu sushi rolls in addition to the rolls you can design yourself. The sushi was pretty not bad, and the portions I had were generous and stuffed with toppings. No skimping or rice-heavy rolls like is common here in KC. Prices were pretty reasonable, refreshing for the KC. Pre-made items are ½-off in the evening before closing time. One review I saw posted about the chopsticks… seriously?!? They have the typical disposable chopsticks seen at most restaurants. I’m not sure why chopstick quality is important for a take-out sushi place. They’re wood and probably compostable(ie. eco-friendly), Besides, if you’re shoving the chopsticks in your mouth, you’re using them wrong; I’ll be happy to give you lessons! :) The owner plans to expand the restaurant to allow for more of a sit-down/sushi-lounge dining experience and hopes to serve alcohol in the future. I’m sure this will be popular with sushi-cravers in KC.

Surprisingly good sushi! This place looks like, well, not much. It’s a storefront in the market. But, they have a make your own roll option, which is a great service. Their crab Rangoon roll is decadent fun. Their rolls are super fresh and even I, primarily a vegetarian for squeamishness reasons, feel okay ordering raw rolls here. The service is good, as fast as can be expected when rolling from scratch and very polite and friendly. This is a lunchtime treasure and on my to-do list for evening, seeing their hours posted…

Not bad, not bad at all… convenient for folks who live nearby. we were doing some weekend shopping and decided to try it. It wasn’t the best, nor the worst. I think its location is the number #1 reason people may go here, especially if you just want to grab something quick and not have to fight traffic to go elsewhere. The guy who rang us up at the counter was very nice-bonus! Sushi rolls are average for the midwest, but if you are already in the River Market– sushi by me should be a lace you frequent

This place is the bomb dog diggity yowzah. I live across the street and Sushi by Me has made me start craving sushi about 6pm every day. They close at 8pm which is pretty awesome for being in the market or close to downtown where most places like this close around 5 or before. The taste is great, on par with any sushi I’ve had, I’ve had numerous rolls but I think the spicy tuna with Avocado is my favorite so far. There is enough seating for about 6 – 9 people in the store, but since its in the market there is tons of seating outside. There is a case with pre-made rolls if you are in a hurry, and these taste just as good as the fresh made. They can whip up rolls faster than you can learn to use chop sticks! David is a super friendly guy, great personality, I would like to see this place thrive in the market and stick around so if you’re a sushi fan try Sushi by Me and throw some money at them.

It is fast, fresh and delicious! Have gone for lunch two days in a row now. I like that you don’t have to go into a formal restaurant to get the good stuff. Grocery store sushi starts out fine but gets too dry and tasteless in a short time. I love the salmon and tuna Nigiri. Also had a good seaweed salad. Salads in a side frig you serve yourself. Get a good ice tea next door at the coffee shop to top it off. It just completes the global comfort food experience you get at the City Market.

Location, location, location. Finally a sushi place in walking distance in the River Market. While I’m happy they’re open, and the guys running the place seem nice enough, the sushi was only«ok.» If the sushi had rocked my socks I’d be banging their door down and singing from the rooftops. Somebody mentioned fake crab meat. That’s sort of a ‘no-no’ for me too. It makes me think I’m getting my sushi from a grocery store. Hell, there are a couple of grocery stores in KC with some sushi on par with this place(which isn’t an indictment of either the grocery stores or Sushi By Me!!!1!). I dig the logo and the prices were fair. Well, maybe a little higher than fair. Grocery grade sushi should be a bit cheaper if you ask me. We tried several rolls, including some uni, some veggie rolls(great price on those, by the way), tuna, and some americanized rolls with lots of sauce. I had a seaweed salad which I enjoyed. I think the name of the place has its own flavor of novelty, as everybody I know who lives nearby has been saying, «hey, there’s a sushi place by me!» Like I said: location. There are only a few places to sit, and the counter service was a little clunky(admittedly they’d only been open about five days when I went). If you ask me(and you are, clearly) any ANY sushi bar worthwhile has seats at the sushi bar so you can sit and chat with the sushi chef and get to know them. Developing a trust in your sushi chef, and in turn developing a relationship with the clientele, is what takes a sushi place in any city to another level. The concept of a «grocery grade take away sushi» has its merits, sure, but the potential was here to really be amazing and a cornerstone of the KC sushi scene. Will I return? Sure; if I’m up at my girl’s place in the River Market, probably. But not very often.

There are a number of sushi places around downtown, but this one is pretty competitive. The flavors are solid, the pricing is definitely good and the staff were super friendly. They mentioned having special rolls coming soon, but what I got(eel roll and veggie roll) was on the regular menu and I would definitely return based on the first experience. The thing I love the most, though, is that they’re taking a chance with dinner hours in the City Market, which a lot of places don’t do. They’re open til 8pm, which is great for someone who lives/works downtown. At 6:15, the rest of the market was fairly dead but these guys were open and ready to roll.(ha. ha. sigh…)

Glad to have this new neighbor in my hood! Although I only ever order veggie rolls at sushi places, not only were those tasty, my friends said they enjoyed their orders, which were actual sushi. Service was excellent, and the location can’t be beat. Casual atmosphere. Get yours made to order or grab a quick snack from the ready-made stuff. They said they will hosting sushi-making classes soon(maybe that’s where the name comes from?)

Stopped in tonight and picked up four rolls to take home. Owner and staff were friendly, sushi was fresh and priced right. I look forward to adding Sushi by Me to the neighborhood rotation. So happy to have a friendly, delicious, and affordable sushi place downtown and in River Market!

I had been waiting the past couple of weeks for them to open and was their first costumer. Everyone was very friendly and the food looked great. My wife and I had three rolls, Rainbow, California, Me roll(?), you call the ingredients, and seaweed salad. Let’s support this new up comer by stopping in to give them a try.

Looks like it just opened today, and I stopped in. The owner came out to meet me and was very friendly. Have only tried a spicy salmon so far, but will definitely be back to try more as it was quite tasty. Also looks like they can do brown rice rolls as well. Hooray for Sushi in the Market!
