Wasahi Japanese Steak House & Sushi Bar

Usually I keep my comments to myself and have an account and this app solely for finding good eats but this place has placed a new standard on trash. I’m a member of an interracial relationship (Asian/​white) and we love to get our sushi fix every so often so we decided to give this place a try. From the beginning my girlfriend and I were put off by the mangey chef sitting by the door at the front smoking his cigarette and staring us down but we figured «what the hell, we are already here.»
We were seated once we came in by another rude older gentleman and the whole staff of 7 turned to stare at us and then looked to one another making comments in a different language and obliging each other with disapproving looks (I’m assuming because I’m a white guy and have an Asian girlfriend). Then after we were seated and observed the waitress tapping every worker in the restaurant to let them know to have a look at us, we ordered. The sushi was average and came out quickly but the service was horrendous. No refills, no courtesy checks, not a single reminder that we even had a waitress or were customers and not wall decorations.
For desert we had the privilege of listening to the same homeless looking chef that was smoking outside, scream across the restaurant in his native dialect. I’m assuming he was cracking jokes because everyone kept laughing and looking at us (we were the only people there). Then came the proclamation «easy money! Easy money!» From his lips and it was time for the check.
We won’t be going back.

Finally tried this place out recently, and it was great! Everything is reasonably priced and delicious. I went in a group so we sampled each other’s orders, and none of it disappointed! Definitely recommend the last samurai roll, it was our surprise favorite!

There was one waitress working the whole restaurant and I couldn’t get her to come and take my to go order matter how many times I gave her an «I’m ready signal» and even told her that I was ready. She kept running around doing other things, taking to go orders over the phone, and even helping other customers that came in after I did. I just got up and left.

Excellent, no frills sushi– just how I like it! Fresh fish, perfect amount or rice and great prices. My husband and I ordered a sushi roll combo and an additional Alaskan roll and left stuffed for $ 25. Great find!

Very fresh and delicious sushi! The sushi chef is innovative and talented. Highly recommend as the best undiscovered secret in the KC area.

The tepan grill at Wasahi is our favorite out of all the many Japanese Steak Houses we’ve been too. The sushi is amazing, too. The chefs that cook out on the tepan grills are friendly and entertaining. We LOVE this place!

LOVE the food! The service can be slow at times, and the prices are a little high; but I love this place!

I have been to Japanese Steak Houses all across the country and this is one of the best! The entire family loves the place and there is great interaction with the chief. He always remembers what my daughter wants and how she wants it cooked. I have also brought several co-​workers here and well as out of town visitors for both personal and business. They have all loved the food.

This my favorite restaurant… EVER. They staff treats you like family and the serving sizes are RIDICULOUS for the price. I always sit on the steakhouse side and get the steak and shrimp combo. I don’t know what the house salad dressing is, but I could just eat that like soup it’s so good. Speaking of soup… the onion noodle soup looks like a cup of water but tastes like heaven! They could do with a little redecorating but once you taste the food you won’t notice.

We waited a bit for the sushi but there was a big order in front of ours. Tasted yummy. Had hibachi with Sydney the chef had a great time chatting it up. Delicious and great staff. Love personalized service. Our waitress did not speak good English but was very nice and our food came out correct.

Have never been here before and glad I did. Was getting work done on my car next door and was pleased (yet skeptical) to find a sushi place next door. I got the unagi roll and Las Vegas roll. Both were good and reasonably priced. $ 6 for unagi and $ 8 for Las Vegas. Rolls were good sized and didn’t skimp on the fish and were flavorful and fresh! But my favorite was the baked mussels which were fantastic. I am rarely over on this side of the city, but would definitely come back if I am in the mood for good sushi and reasonable price.

Bad service. They gave a table of four one menu with earased orders still visable. We ordered a mushroom appetizer and they served four instead of six. The steak teriyaku was good, but way, way overpriced. Did I say it’s overpriced? Three dining room was just shy of really dirty. This was my give it another chance try, no thanks.

Amazing!!! Been going here for 10+ years and it’s even better now than before! Sushi is delicious, margarita roll is their staple. Best roll around! Don’t let the outdated décor drive you away. Sometimes service is understaffed but food is well worth it!

I went for lunch and was able to order take out. The service was very friendly and that is a plus for me. They had all sorts of specials posted inside. The menu has a lot of interesting items that I would like to try. While I was waiting for my order I saw food going out to customers and it looked and smelled great. My wait was maybe 10 minutes and I was on my way. The sushi was so good and fresh tasting. I ordered 2 rolls — the Shrimp tempura and the Philly Roll. So delicious. I will eat there again for sure and next time I will take my family. Not the fanciest place I’ve ever been but clean and good food.

I love this place! If you want excellent sushi, you have got to eat here! Yes, it could use some serious updating but honestly… I’m there for the food! My favorite was their Tempera Roll. OMG!!! The staff is so friendly… plus if your a regular, which my husband and I so am… they begin to no your name by heart. Wonderful staff. I love going there on a Friday and just ordering a bunch of sushi to take home and enjoy. It’s awesome. Love it, love it, love it! :)

This restaurant has absolutely fabulous sushi and a great steakhouse side as well. I have eaten both types of food here and enjoyed both immensely. In fact I’m not sure I could possibly enjoy the food more! The sushi is fabulous and a little more expensive than some local restaurants, but I feel that it is worth it. The service has been very personable and enjoyable whenever I have visited, and there is usually a lot of interaction between the waiters and guests since they want to make sure that you are happy. I love the décor and feel that the atmosphere is very appropriate for a Japanese restaurant. It is a bit of a nicer restaurant than many of the sushi joints in the area, which I can definitely appreciate. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves sushi and Japanese cuisine as much as I do!

This place is awesome and soooo friendly. Am I a connoisseur of sushi NO! Am I a huge fan of Wasahi YES!
I have never been dissapointed by the quality of food and the price is great.
They do have a bug problem which I have addressed with the owner. They need a deeper correction process to contain the problem.
The owner/​chef is very clean and I have asked and seen the kitchen which is very organized and surface clean to the naked eye.
I have seen one bug and read about another in Unilocal.Big deal its a restaurant and if you think P.F. Changs never has a bug you are nuts.

I really want to give this place a good review. There is something I take quite seriously that prevents me from doing so. My husband and I have been twice. Both times it was relatively deserted. Note: an empty restaurant parking lot during dinner time is not a sign of a good place to go.
The second and last time I was ever there I had nearly finished a mediocre hibachi dinner when I reached for my watered down soda to see a lovely little cock roach come from beneath my plate. I promptly sat my glass down on top of him and asked my husband if he was ready to go. «But you’re not finished eating!», he said. «Oh yes, I am.», was my reply.
I realize most (okay all) restaurants have bugs. The dividing line for me is that I cannot continue to patronize the ones in which I SEE the bugs. We won’t be back… ever.

Whenever I’m in KC, my friends and I always want to go here. I’ve been a fan of this place for 8 years. We’ve never had the hibachi here, because we’re too stuck on the sushi. We love their special orange dynamite sauce. We always ask for extra on the side to dip our rolls in. We usually order 2 – 3 spicy crab salads, an order of the last samurai, 2 orders of the margarita roll, an order of the 913 roll, 2 orders of the volcano roll, and an order of squid tempura.
