Yikes… late last week, Morton’s Grille closed their doors. Gone now… Sad.

Wasn’t too sure about the place when we first came in, as the music was a bit loud and the servers even louder– all rushing around like we were at a Cheeesecake Factory or California Pizza Kitchen. I knew the location had changed from Crown Center to the CC Plaza, as well as the name(Grille replaced Steakhouse) – so— wasn’t expecting too much. Wrong… the meal was great. Wedge salad was great… and the filet mignon was as tender and delicious as always– the Negroni(a gin and Campari cocktail) was delightfully soothing… the best ever! I will say the onion soup was not that good(too many herbs, way too overpowering). But, overall— a nice experience.

Great food and service, awesome experience all around. We reserved a table for 7 and it was ready exactly when we got there. I love when you don’t have to wait for a reservation. We had a feast, with 3 appetizers, 2 bottles of wine, steaks, flat breads… We pretty much got almost the entire menu! Everything was very good. I had heard that Morton’s was awesome, but we had never been before last night, and now I can say I’d love to go again and recommend it to others.

Headed to Morton’s for happy hour on a Friday. We arrived at 5:40(HH ends @ 6pm), and the bar area was pretty dead. Thankfully we were able to quickly nab a table and order dinner and drinks. The filet trio, lemongrass chicken wings, and margharita pizza(all around $ 5 -$ 6/each). The wine was on special also — $ 5/glass. We went with the Cabernet and were happy with our choice, especially paired with the filet. Our meal arrived promptly, and the filet trio was our favorite. The au poirve, blue cheese, and Bearnaise sauces were all very tasty with the mini steaks, and the chicken wings were solid(meaty but not outstanding). The pizza was just so-so. Overall, I would say Morton’s is a good happy hour choice around the Plaza and represented the Landry’s family of restaurants well.

My wife and I where looking for someplace to have an ice dinner with something just a little different. So we chose Morton’s. We promptly was greeted and seated. Then we sat for 10 minutes before we saw our server. Finally a few minutes later we ordered some wine. We both ordered the dirty chops which was a great choice. A Cajun seasoned pork chop. We both ordered the chopped salad which was also excellent. There where two things that made this restaurant really lacking, especially for a restaurant of this caliber. The first being the quality of the side dishes, the second being the speed/level of service. We spent 2 ½hrs and I know this isn’t a diner but still waiting thirty minutes before our food order was taken is really a long time. So we ordered between us, a baked potato, dirty rice, and broccoli. The baked potato and the broccoli was luke warm at best. The broccoli had I believe panco and a shredded cheese over them, but no seasoning at all. The dirty rice was way over cooked and mushy. One bite of this was more than enough. The staff did catch that my wife hadn’t eaten the rice and did offer something else, which she declined. So the manager offered to make an adjustment on the bill. Very nice gesture, however, when I got the bill she took $ 2.00 off. Yet on the menu they charge $ 7.00 for each additional charge. My thought is on this. If you are going to make a gesture to try and make your customer happy when they leave, then at least make sure the gesture is MORE than fair. Everyone was more than friendly, but for a meal that you are going to spend this kind of money for should have very few and even then minor flaws. This is the first time I have chosen to eat at Morton’s and based on my experience it will most likely be my last.

Worst Morton’s experience I have ever had. I have entertained customers at Morton’s steakhouse all over the country, and have had nothing but excellent service, steaks, sides, and desserts. This was Not the case on Tuesday night at this Morton’s Grille! The«Prime» steaks were the worst I have ever had, Texas roadhouse steaks are better then this New York Strip and don’t cost $ 54.00. I am used to paying about $ 100.00 per person at Morton’s steakhouse, but paying that at this Grille was a ripoff! Morton’s has a built a reputation as being one of the finest Steakhouse restaurants in the country, However if the new direction is «Bar & Grill» then I will be taking my business to Ruth’s Chris. If this is the new direction under the new ownership, then just call it Landry’s Grill! and stop tarnishing the Morton’s name.

The service here is exceptional. I had a birthday party for 13, and it was fabulous. My drinks were good, and the food was good. I would definitely recommend dining here. My server Anna was awesome. I am very happy with how everything turned out, and plan to return very soon.

Great happy hour! $ 5 glasses of wines that are actually good. Definitely recommend the tot’chos… They’re nachos made with tater tots instead of chips. Kinda odd concept until you actually try it. Also had the trio of filet mignon with 3 diff sauces and it was amazing. Nice light meal on its own. Décor was great, service was wonderful. Definitely plan on coming back and trying some more things

One of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever had… My $ 56 prime cut steak arrived cold… served by a food runner after waiting 45 min from after our salad was served… waiter was not available… waited…finally I had I had to walk it over to another waiter, who took it the kitchen… after 15 min. it was brought back to the table by another food runner… and again it was still cold… sent it back again by are waiter this time. Ask for a manager… he finally show up with my steak after another 15 min… steak was warm, but also well done at this point. The manager did remove the steak for the bill. The rest of our party had completed their dinner at this point. Needless to say we did not order dessert, we has already been at Morton’s Grill for almost 3 hours. Not going back anytime soon.

I have never ever felt less welcome at a Morton’s than at this location. I travel the USA and have never been more underwhelmed than here. It was a slow night. Big 12 tournament on television. Came in to eat dinner and watch game. At halftime(9:15) they informed me they would be closing early tonight(10:00) because it’s slower than usual. When I arrived I asked before I ordered dinner how late they were open(11:00pm). Sat at bar, had dinner while the bartender and bar back did their closing duties from 8pm on. The entire time I was there they had their going home faces on and they could care less about me. Well heck with you from now on. If you’re not taking care of your customers on slower than usual nights then why should I take care of you during your good times. BTW, the basketball game would have been over before 11:00pm. If they hadn’t lied to me in the beginning I could have eaten somewhere more friendly and seen game without interruption.

Came here on a whim, Saturday night walking on the plaza with the family and we were hungry so we decided to stop here. Expensive dinner w/two toddlers… wahooo! We had excellent service, I wish I paid attention to our waiter’s he was great but I was too busy paying attention to my family so I didn’t catch his name. But everyone that works here that we interacted with was amazing! They do not cater to kids… meaning no kids menus or crayons or anything like that but they were super nice and never treated us like they were annoyed or anything. I had the classic ribeye, I usually like cajun but I was splitting w/my kids so I just got classic and my husband had the bone in ribeye! It was great, cooked perfectly all around and my 4 and 5 year old loved it. We had a baked potato, fries, and mac and cheese. I think the mac and cheese was great, I didn’t read in the description that there were jalapeños in there, if I had I would have asked them to take it out because my 4 year old wanted it and she thought it was spicy. And we shared the Hot Chocolate Cake… mmmm it was pretty YUMMY.

They offer a reverse happy hour 9– close M-F! Beware: the kitchen closes at 10pm. Same menu as the regular happy hour. A wide selection of items priced at $ 6-$ 10.

Had lunch here for the first time. It is restaurant week, so they had a special lunch menu. We tried the short rib sliders and the Reuben sandwich. Both were delicious. Our server was very polite and helpful. Recommended a great wine for our choices. Looked over the dinner menu, and it looks wonderful. Will definitely return!

The Restaurant Week menu here is stellar. I had the Filet Mignon which was juicy and cooked to perfection. It was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. The service was impeccable and the staff is great at making sure you are taken care of. My husband got the dirty pork chop and I’ve never tasted pork so tender before. They even asked if there was a temperature he preferred. Great addition to KC. I had the peanut butter pie and it was rich and creamy. It was an excellent choice. I would give this place 50 stars. A++++++ in all areas.

We went to Morton’s Grille on a Saturday afternoon in December during the peak of holiday shopping frenzy expecting to have a great lunch at an establishment with a great reputation. We ended up very disappointed. They had been open for over 45 minutes when we walked through the door, but it was the unorganized, manic energy of a place that usually happens 45 minutes before a business opens. We sat at our booth and watched the staff carry booze to the bar, tie aprons on and catch up with each other since their last shift. My partner had soup and a salad and I had the chicken sandwich with fries along with one coffee and one iced tea. The bill came to over $ 50. I don’t mind paying for food but this seemed a little steep, especially for the quality of food we got. There was nothing special about what we ate. My chicken sandwich was really lack luster and fell apart in my hands. I have honestly had better chicken sandwiches at fast food joints. Nothing was awful, but nothing was $ 50 worth. The space looked ok. I was probably more distracted by the asinine amount of staff meandering around that I didn’t get a true sense of the ambiance. If a business isn’t ready on a Saturday afternoon on a busy shopping day in one of the busiest shopping/restaurant districts, I don’t know when they will be!

Definitely worth it. My girlfriend and I decided to celebrate our anniversary here last weekend. And being that she is a vegetarian, we weren’t too confident in our choice to eat at a steakhouse. We were both VERY happy we did. Our whole experience, from the very start right up until we left, exceeded our expectations. The level of service we received from the entire stuff(especially our server, Brittany) was extremely friendly and accommodating. They were never hovering over us, yet always appeared at the right time and very helpful with suggestions. For an appetizer we shared the portobello fries, which we both enjoyed very much. She had the beet salad for dinner, and I opted for the kc strip with black truffle butter. Both were delicious, my steak was incredible and cooked almost perfectly. For dessert we had the amazing cheesecake, which is almost like a crème brûlée. We will absolutely be back again. It’s always great to have a place like this in the area. Somewhere I can get a great steak and my veggie gf can have tons of options too.

I fear my expectations were too high coming into this meal. We have eaten at Morton’s steakhouse in other cities. Unfortunately I didn’t realize this was Morton’s Grille, a more casual experience. My mistake! We had a bottle of wine, appetizers, and dinner. Everything took a very long time to come out. There were long lulls in the meal where we had no food and no one come check on us. It just wasn’t what we had expected. I doubt if we go back.

Did miss Morton’s while it was on hiatus but happy that it is back in town. Came here for a late night a snack because it is just one of those nights where we were craving trio cheeseburgers from here. Thanks to the bartender who served us well even though it was very close to closing time.

A group from work and I stopped in for lunch. The décor is pretty but somewhat dark. We ordered 3 appetizers, deviled eggs, bacon wrapped shrimp and the buffalo meatballs. WOW! All were very good, but we all agreed that the shrimp was the best. I had a burger and fries. Best burger in town! Really. The fries were shoe string and were nice and crispy. Service was great, they replaced our flatware at least 3 – 4 times. Really great lunch, a little pricey but worth it.

Morton’s Grille is in the location of the former M&S Grill. Both are owned by the same organization that owns McCormick and Schmick’s, but while McCormick and Schmick’s specializes in seafood, Morton’s Grille is a traditional American grill, including steaks and other dishes, along with seafood. While the variety of seafood offered at the Morton’s Grille is much smaller than at McCormick and Schmick’s, the seafood is as fresh at Morton’s as at its bigger sister restaurant, since the seafood supplier is the same and the seafood is delivered fresh 7 days a week. Some of the most attractive tables are the oval booths along the back wall, the tables along windows with views of the J. C. Nichols fountain, and the outdoor tables with exceptional views of the fountain. We were at table 61, which is one of the booths along the back wall, and we were very happy with that booth. They accept the Landry’s frequent dining card for credits, the same one accepted by McCormick and Schmick’s. While our experiences at the new Morton’s Grille were all excellent, Morton’s has very strong competition a block away at Houston’s(which we like even better).
