If I were rating Luna Azteca based on food and wait service alone, they would get five stars for sure. HOWEVER, they have crazy long wait times(which is a sign of a booming business, I get it), but no place for people to wait. When it’s cold, like it is now, everyone crams around the door and you can’t really have a conversation. The seating is also really crammed. Even after we sat down, people were bumping into my chair all during dinner. If you want to try it for lunch or during the week, you’d probably have a great time. But avoid at all costs if you’re looking for a weekend date night.

Really good Mexican food. We just moved from California and this is just like we’re used to. Cheese dip appetizer is great. Definitely start with that, and check out happy hour for deals on other appetizers and drinks. $ 2 domestic pints/$ 3 imports, $ 3well/$ 4.50 margaritas. The Soup is amazing. Dining area is a little small, so try to avoid busy dining hours. Lots of parking with Sprouts Market next door.

By far some of the best tacos in the world. I don’t know how they do it but they’ve brought great tacos from California to Kansas City. Chimichanga is amazing too. Chicken on chimmy ground beef on tacos.

For dinner, I got the chicken quesadilla which can be found on the appetizers menu and it was delicious. I also shared and got Mexican rice from someone I was dining with who didn’t want it so I didn’t have to order it as a separate side. The quesadilla was so delicious and fresh tasting. Not greasy at all. You should definitely order the Azteca dip(queso) with your chips and salsa at the beginning because it is heavenly. The atmosphere is casual and dark and pleasant. The service was friendly and helpful. Someone stopped by and asked if I needed a refill on my salsa which was great cause I finished mine fairly quickly it was so good! Our waitress refilled the sodas too. A very satisfying dinner and will definitely come back. The Burlington Creek area is also very nice.

Luna Azteca is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Kansas City. The menu is typical for a Mexican restaurant in the states… I enjoy their chips and salsa, tacos and burritos. I’ve never had anything here that I didn’t like. The space is a bit small. On weekend evenings, it can be very crowded and it sometimes takes a bit of time to get a table, so we try to avoid those times when we can. We’ve never really had any trouble getting in any other times.

Server and atmosphere is good. I like that no matter where you sit, you can see a tv. Main reason to go is for the food, which was terrible! We had the steak Baja bowl, taco salad and Azteca salad. First it took forever for the good to come out. When it did, it looked good, but was cold and bland. My 9 year old eats anything and would not finish his taco salad. There was little meat and a lot of lettuce. It was watery and had no flavor. None of the food was seasoned. Terrible food! We will not go back!

Food was good enough. Problems with service, not surprising, given what I read in other reviews. I’m on the fence as to wether we’ll be back.

Went here for my uncles birthday and not a bad spot. The interior was clean, bar had a TV and great margaritas. I was a fan of the food. They had a lot of selections for combinations, and overall consensus was decent. My tamale tasted wonderful and authentic, the rice and beans were great. Chips were a little overfried and salt less, but the salsa had good flavor. Birthdays they give out sopapillas and those were delicious! The service was… Well… Typical tex new style. Overall a 4– great for a casual lunch or dinner.

Great food from Pepe and Sylvia! Homemade everything and great Stinger’s from the bar(just ask for it). Highly recommended.

Very disappointing first visit. Looking to eat nearby in the Parkville area for my boyfriend’s 30th this past Sunday, we decided on Luna. Honestly? I wish we had not. Service? Understaffed and nonexistent. It was great that we promptly received chips and salsa… but it took 15 minutes to get just water and our food came 35 minutes after we ordered. We munched thru 3 chip baskets and had no desire to eat by that point. Our table was in a horrible spot. Wedged in by extra chairs along a wall and a backdoor. Other patrons were actually rude enough to ask my boyfriend’s near 60-year mother to get up WHILE she was eating so they could leave the back way without even saying thank you. Are you serious? Why would you put a table here? Baffling. The food itself was mediocre. Opting on the light menu, I had the spinach enchiladas. Nothing special and what you would imagine a spinach enchilada to taste like. I stole a niblet of chicken chipotle from the boy, it was pretty good. The chicken was surprisingly tender. Despite our visit I’m not writing Luna off since it’s in the community we are relocating to. Every establishment is bound to have a bad day.

I used to work near the old Luna Azteca in Tiffany Springs and would occasionally do taco Tuesday. The new place in The Tulleries is so much more open, colorful and elegant in a Mexican resort cantina feel. I did the Fideo with steak and mushrooms in a chipotle cream sauce. Absolutely tasty! Coworkers did a burrito and a chicken and veggies plate and all were impressed. A must return.

If you love Mexican food, you wanna try them all, as they each have their own wrinkle on traditional dishes. Sauces, meats, refried beans. Went for lunch today, «may the 4th be with you», probably is not as big a day as tomorrow, as the place was half full, but full of ads for tomorrow’s specials, Cinco de Mayo. Ordered the burrito especial, with rice and beans. Hate to say it, but their chunky salsa and chips beforehand got the best of me. I pretty much ate the whole basket before our food arrived. Burrito was huge, filled with beef and chicken, covered in red sauce, «delisch»…loved it. Wife went for the huevos con chorizo, I’ve ordered it so many times and loved it, and it did not disappoint today… Great meal on two fronts today, glad I came a day early, and got a quick meal without the crowds. Only reason they got 4 stars, they didn’t give us the lunch menu until we asked.

Andrea our server was awesome. Not only was she on top of ensuring our drinks were always full, she made excellent recommendations for entrees. I had the Azteca Enchiladas which were awesome and flavorful. The salsa is fresh made and chocked full of fresh tomatoes, onions, and cilantro.

We were in the mood for Mexican food(well, what I mean is a good margarita) tonight! We decided to go to Luna even though we usually frequent the Raunchy Grande for our margaritas. I’ve been to this location before and had a 4STAR experience(just last week!!) so I was expecting the same great experience. Unfortunately this was a totally different story. I could go on and on about the series of epic fails but I will prioritize them in simple format for time and hassle. 1. The«hostess» who«greeted» us tonight(I use this word very lightly and sarcastically) could have easily not been here. Completely non-attentive to customers, zero expression, zero personality. I hate to chastise anybody personally, but it was quite apparent she did not belong in a hostess position. 2. The restaurant wait staff was obviously understaffed. 3. We were seated at a table without enough chairs. Instead of bringing chairs, our server started taking drink orders. When she got to me, and I was still standing, I asked if we could be seated first. She looked slightly puzzled. Finally, another staff person said«do you need seats?» Why yes thanks, sitting would be helpful. He brought two additional chairs and our waitress openly complained that she would have trouble getting around them. Really? You sat us here! 4. Our server asked if we needed separate checks. Yes, there were just two groups. So you know, two checks. She seemed irritated by this. She even asked us AGAIN if it could just be on one. We said, no two thanks. What the? 5. Our meals were ordered. Our drinks were ordered. Drinks came out bad. This was weird as this has really never happened before. Told waitress that something was not right with the drinks. Instead of showing even the slightest, most minuscule, tiny sliver or shred of customer service and asking what was wrong, she said we ordered them blended so that’s what happens. What? Wait. What just happened. 6. Several minutes pass and we are still not partaking in our libations and I have the nerve to ask our server again what can we do about our margaritas. I explained that I was just here last Saturday night and they were way better and tasted like an actual margarita. These were frozen water specials. She was clearly irritated by us but still did nothing. «That’s how the bartender has me explain it,» was her reasoning. 7. Finally on her third pass, I flagged her down and said to please take them away and bring us something else. She did. With an attitude. Major ‘tude. 8. Our meals arrived. I mean, our MEAL arrived. Then 5 minutes later, two more meals. Another few minutes a couple more. By the time some of us were half way through, the last meal arrived. Kitchen scheduling fail. 9. Soft drinks were empty. Bone dry. Hi there… can we get some refills? I really hate having to ask for refills after 45 minutes. You know, it’s just something in waiter code. Fill drinks without asking and before 45 minutes. End of story. 10. The restaurant was so crammed that people were spilling into open spots around other tables while waiting. Thank the Lord we didn’t sit one table over and to the left!!! Those poor souls had to endure a constant crowd of people hovering around their table, butts facing them, for their entire meal. For an added bonus, they also got to enjoy a direct frontal view of the hostess standing emotionless at the wooden podium. Bless these poor souls indeed! 10. After eating our meals(no complaints there!) we visited while staring at piles of our dirty dishes. They weren’t cleared until we were getting ready to leave. Good times. 11. Finally the check came. It was an awkwardly long wait. Visualize people looking around in different directions signaling the ol’ «ready for our check please» body language. You’d think our waitress would want us to get the Hell out of Dodge but bringing our check was kinda par for the course of the night. Slowwwwwly but surely. 12. I could have/should have left a horrible tip but I still left a generous 15% even though it was not warranted. I’m hoping the money will be put to good use in buying some additional people skills. Management: Please train your employees to be more motivated and lively and teach them some customer service skills. I’d like you to stick around for awhile so please work on it. Last week we had a great experience, but tonight our entire experience was terrible. :(Well except for our actual food which is why you’ve earned those 2 stars.

This is easily the best Mexican restaurant in the Parkville/Zona Rosa area, and one of the best in general!!! We have come back here about every other week or so since finding it, it is that good. The service is always great(the last two times we commented to each other multiple times that they were very good — wish I could remember names…), the food is always hot and delicious, and it is close to where we live. Couldn’t ask for much more. I have had a few different items from the menu(Chimichanga, Fajitas, and a burrito). All were what I expected and more. My wife has eaten the same thing everytime, and it is so good that last time I ordered it too(which I almost NEVER order the same thing as anybody else at the table). The best part is, is that they put mushrooms in the burrito instead of meat if you ask, which is great for vegetarians. Speaking of veggies, the mixed veggie fajitas were great — something you don’t often see on a menu. They had the typical onions and peppers, but then nice pieces of portobello mushrooms and squash too. Very good. One of my favorite things is the hot salsa(ask for it). They make both salsas in house, but they hot is sooo good. You can tell the roast the peppers as the salsa has a nice smokey flavor, as well as the perfect amount of heat. I’ll probably end up buying my salsa there! Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed. So many restaurants/shops have come and gone in this area, I really hope they are here to stay!

I absolutely love Mexican food! I could eat it every day of the week! But I have to admit that I don’t understand what all the rage is about with Luna Azteca. In my opinion, there is nothing even remotely authentic about this place. From the atmosphere to the menu to the staff it’s just lacking for me. That’s not to say they don’t have some decent food — I really like the spicy salsa and the Azteca Burrito — but there are a number of other Mexican joints I would choose over this place.

Tried this place at random. Chips are fresh and crispy. Salsa is fresh, but not spicy enough for my taste, so I got a bowl on spicy salsa. Perfectly spicy, and has a unique roasted flavor. Took some getting used to but I liked it. Had a chimichanga for my entrée. It came out dry, I’m used to having sauce poured all over it. I was pleasantly surprised! It was delicious! Service was good, food came out fast but not so fast that I didn’t have time to enjoy my chips and salsa.

I mean, I’m really not that hard of a person to please, but Luna Azteca barely made my marks. Their saving grace was the carnitas that came inside the burrito I ordered. I really was confused by the fact that they used pinto beans instead of refried beans, that’s no fun. But overall, the food wasn’t terrible at all. What was terrible about this joint was the staff and service. It kind of reminded me of those crazy people from Amy’s Baking Company from Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares. I constantly heard yelling in Spanish and the young American waitresses looked like they had no idea what to do about it. It was almost scary, but mostly annoying. I’ll get carry-out if I go back, it just doesn’t seen very likely.

Food was good and the service was good. Atmosphere is nice, love the bar! Very good selection for lunch choices and quite a few lite options. However, after returning several times I’m disappointed saying that the consistency level has not been there. Our dishes were different every time when we ordered the same thing. I’m sure we will be back to give it another try to see if things have changed.
