I was expecting authentic Mexican food, but I was wrong. I won’t be back. I can’t remember the name of the meal I ordered, but like I said I won’t be back anyways. Beans — I think they came out of a can. Rice — it looked and tasted like it was made from a box and mixed with a can of mushy mixed vegetables. Who really wants lima beans in spanish rice? Not this girl. The chicken was a little overcooked, and drowned in cheese. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. It took forever to decide what I wanted to order because their menu has every dish under the sun.

Anyone know what’s up? Swung by yesterday for lunch, only to witness darkness and a sign on the door indicating Bistro something was coming soon. Jalisco is the best cheap-Mex around. When we moved here in October, we were excited to find a good Mexican joint so quickly, but now we’re bummed because we have to find another.

Jalisco Mexican Restaurant Category: Mexican 7749NW Prairie View Rd Kansas City, MO64152 (816) 587‑0899 Jalisco is more like a sports bar than a Mexican restaurant with TVs everywhere you look. The décor is new, plain, and cheap, but the colors are pleasant and, most important, the restaurant is clean! The food is good in general, starting with the guacamole which is fresh and tasty at $ 4.00 for a medium size serving. The cheese dip, also $ 4.00 is also tasty and same size as the guacamole. Margarites are also $ 4.00, not bad, but on the small side and with NOTMUCHPUNCH if you know what I mean The first time I visited, shortly after their opening a few months back, I had the carnitas(slow cooked chunks of pork) and the was tender and plentiful. Served with tortillas, pico di gallo, rice, and beans, a serving of guacamole would have been nice and is always a welcome accompaniment to the tender pork delights. My wife had the cheese quesadilla, also very good although a bit pricey at $ 7.50 for a couple flour tortillas and some cheese. I went for the taco special yesterday, having three beef tacos with rice and beans for $ 6.99. I was disappointed in the taco shells, looking like the prefab variety you get at the supermarket. The tacos only came with white cheese and lettuce, no tomato or pico di gallo, a necessity when eating tacos as far as I am concerned. All three of the tacos broke in half upon first bite, so I had quite a mess on my hands … literally! The service is good, the salsa fresh, and tortilla chips warm. Do not forget to ask for the«HOT» sauce, a tomatillo variety with more kick than the standard, but not extremely hot. CombatCritic gives Jalisco 7BOMBS out of 10 … BOMBSAREGOOD!

I’ve been to this place a few times alone, on the way back from work or stopped in for a quick lunch. I can honestly say that the food is marginal, I had hoped it would be better since I was excited about a Mexican restaurant opening in our neighborhood, there are no others except Rancho Grande which is a little farther away. #1 thing they need to add is something to the ambience-the place is missing something, and the way it is laid out(the floor plan), is weird. I would go there again because the prices are reasonable but don’t expect taste to be much. The employees are very friendly. Not sure how much longer this place will be in business. Not enough traffic going through the place. Hope it lasts, wish them the best!

Very fresh. Had the flautas, others had enchilada supreme — great. Quesadilla was ok

I really was going to give 3 stars, but when I saw that two stars said«Meh. I’ve experienced better» I couldn’t help but feel exactly that. I was even going to start my review with«Meh.» We wanted to try a new mexican place for dinner with my in-laws. Jalisco was close by, and they had decent reviews on here, so we figured why not. We got there a little before 6 on a Saturday night, there was one car in the lot, and one or two tables of people inside. That shoulda been the first sign. We were seated right away and brought chips and drinks. I ordered hot sauce to go with the chips, but it wasn’t really hot at all. Two at the table ordered Boulevard wheat(on tap) but then a few minutes later a nice young lady came out and said they were out of Boulevard, so they switched to Bud Light. Then 2 minutes later our male waiter came out with Boulevards. We tried to explain that they just switched to Bud Light and to tell the lady to stop so they didn’t get served both beers, but he didn’t understand what we were saying. My wife tried to order the queso fundido when we first ordered drinks, and the waiter smiled and said OK, but again, I don’t think he understood. It never came(we weren’t charged though I don’t think). I had the dinner«sampler» and it was a lot of(mediocre) food. The ground beef in the taco and enchilada was most likely pre-cooked somewhere else then frozen and shipped to them, they just heat it up. The texture was bad, and it had no flavor whatsoever. The chili relleno was just not good at all. I think it too was frozen, and I didn’t care for the sauce it was doused in at all. The tostada was OK, the tamale was WAY overcooked(flavor was decent), and the fried beans were probably from a big #10 can. The rice was the only thing authentic about my meal. The food was AMERICAN-style mexican. Not my thing. Also, it only took 10 or so minutes for our table of 5 to get our food after ordering. That should tell you something about the freshness, and the fact that most if not all of this stuff is made ahead of time and re-heated. Seriously for the 12+ bucks my meal and soda cost I’d rather go get some chalupas from«the bell» and have a few bucks left over for some ice cream or something. I will not be back. Like another reviewer asked, «Is this a sports bar or Restaurant?» There were about 8 or so TV’s in this tiny little place. Most of them(if not all) had sports on. Our waiter and two other male employees just stood there and watched a soccer match on the TV. There were so few people in the restaurant I guess that is all they had to do. I guess if they had to cook fresh and to-order meals they wouldn’t have time to watch fútbol.

I had the queso fundido and the one of the pollo dishes that for the life of me I can’t remember the name of, but had the cheese sauce on it, and both were fantastic. Definitely coming back!

A+ service, wonderful waitress, pretty good food. I ordered chilaquiles, which you can’t get at a lot of Mexican restaurants. I wish they had had more tortilla chips and less chicken. The regular salsa is nothing special, but the green salsa is excellent. They serve Pepsi, not Coke, which is A-OK in my book. I will be back later this week to try the fajitas. My only criticism is that the food is overpriced.

We have been there three times this week. We think it is great. The sampler was enough for two days.

Mexican food is our favorite and we always try out new restaurants. We went on a Sunday evening and were able to sit right down. The menu was decent sized and we ordered the shrimp fajita nachos as our appetizer. There wasn’t a lot of other people there, so the appetizer came out probably 3 minutes before the full meal. We should have ordered the appetizer and THEN the meal if this was a huge deal to us, but regardless it does kind of irk me. Anyway, the shrimp were cooked perfectly. They were juicy and flavorful and not overcooked. The nachos were definitely a win. I would recommended this for meal or appetizer. I ordered the Jalisco Quesadilla. I loved my meal. The expertly cooked shrimp were back and the cheese had a good flavor. I also really liked the rice. It was moist and not just dry chard like most restaurants. The chips and salsa were lacking. Nothing to write home about. The BF ordered 3 cheese enchiladas. It was a super basic meal and I thought nothing noteworthy, but you can’t really get a stand out meal from cheese enchiladas. Overall, Jalisco was a good meal. If someone wanted to meet here, I would go, but really it doesn’t necessarily stand out and I don’t think we would make the drive for it. Since we live in Platte City, I’d rather hit up La Fuente in Smithville for the killer shrimp chimichanga and if we are looking for more flavor and unique foods we will make the drive for Ixtapa on Barry Road.

7 of us went out for dinner at Jalisco tonight. Had great service from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we walked out. Everyone ordered something different and there were zero complaints about anything. Everything tasted super good. The portions are large, so make sure you’re hungry! They also had margaritas, either frozen or on the rocks for $ 2.50 today. Those were yummy! Speaking of prices, the prices were great and our share(2 people) came to $ 24! This is a great addition to our neighborhood!
