Had the pork tamale with chorizo and blueberries — best lunch I’ve had all year! Incredible!

My first time dining at the Local Pig-Westport was really nice. Beer-lovers and connoisseurs will really enjoy this place, because of their huge selection on tap and bottled. Their cocktail menu was just okay. I tried their«You’re my boy blue» and it was just too much bourbon for me. Their menu was great! We ordered the goat cheese and peach jam, which was amazing. And we split the pork tamale with blue berry salsa and the lamb pot pie. Both were very good. I would give this place 4-stars had our service been better and it was a little pricy in my opinion. The server went on break for like 40 minutes leaving us with empty glasses. Also, the restaurant music was a little loud and they were playing early 90s slow jams… Not exactly what you would expect to be on in a restaurant like this. Overall, I recommend it!

I’m undecided between 2 stars and 3 stars. I love the beer selection and the butcher shop products. Service has been just fine on all of my visits. But the food. It’s just not that great. And I really expect it to blow me away, but every time I feel let down. It’s just missing something. So, while I wouldn’t steer anyone away from Local Pig, there are better places in Westport to get a bite.

The beer selection was great. I visited for a happy hour for $ 5 small plates and had a chance to sample a lot of the menu. The watermelon and kale salad was excellent. My one disappointment was that it seemed they served the same French bread with all of their appetizers. I would’ve liked to have some variety and more specific pairings(some dishes would be better with a crusty bread or crostini)

Personally, the appeal to this place did not move me. I realize the shop/restaurant should support them, but I just don’t have any interest in what they have on their menu nothing sounds particularly good. I went in and reviewed the menu(which was a block of wood — not convenient), and the descriptions on the menu were not at all enticing. There were no pictures to give an idea what it was you were ordering, and there is no description. You have to rely on the waitress or waiter(which you don’t personally know anything about it)… What struck me as jarring was that the music they were playing was not at all comfortable and progressively got louder and more annoying. After the initial during a fact I realize this was not the place, and left. Sorry to say but I think this place has some room to improve. I’m hoping they make the atmosphere a little little bit more accepting and comfortable and not so jarringly hipster.

No meat served is 3+ days old; all meats sourced within a(certain#) mile radius and butchered in the shop and somewhere else… they don’t send it to a processing plant, was the idea. I ordered the pork tamale(blueberry salsa verde + cream corn) entrée, which was listed on the menu as $ 14. In total, I paid $ 18+ for taxes and tips. I am willing to spend if I am not served a ridiculously minute portion, I taste an adequate balance of(savory) flavors, and food quality & texture are up to par. All in all, I think I still felt the pain of spending $ 18 for one item. In part, I did feel the portion was just a tad under what I hoped to see on my plate and feel in my stomach. Nevertheless, excellent preparatory and delicious, delicious meal. I do want to mention that the meat tasted a bit dry inside the tamale. I don’t like dry meat, but I will leave the details of this dry meat experience to you. I would imagine, though, that it is tricky — and a skill to master — to preserve the succulent texture of unprocessed meat in particular cookery forms. Altogether, I had great company, enjoyed excellent interior format + design, and a beautiful view from where I sat in the farthest corner seat against the window.

Perhaps the natural evolution when you become a craft beer drinker is that you start seeking out other«craft» options. That’s pretty much what drew us to The Local Pig, a small butcher shop/restaurant in Westport. Rustic and inviting inside, you can either stay for lunch, grab a craft or local beer at the bar, or, as we did, peruse the cold case… filled with a variety of sausages, brats, pork chops, chicken breasts, bacon… it’s a pretty impressive selection for as small a case as it is, and because it’s a small shop, the quantities of each can be limited. We’ve only been in here 3 times, but we have been so impressed by the quality of their offerings, and by the friendliness of the staff. They answer questions with zero attitude. If you’re tired of the same old boring selections at your local grocer, make the time to find your way to Westport and The Local Pig!

Surprised to find they had seating available for dining in plus beer &a wine to purchase or enjoying there. Pleasantly surprised, I should say. I had come in for the purpose to explore their offering that I can’t get at my local Hen House(which I am glad to see so close). Picked up several things to try: Ginger-sage breakfast sausage, pepperoni(which we had them slice), pork chops(one each of regular &a brown sugar brined), and breakfast pot pie(mixed with, as far as I can recall, sausage, egg, caramelized onions, gravy & possibly something else it was a lot) surrounded in a puff pastry. I look forward to trying this in the morning. Luckily we discovered we had a few sales on these items &I paid less than expected. Hard to be disappointed in that. I look forward to cooking up our new purchases & delight in their flavors. It is nice to see local product representation &I hope to be inspired to make further trips out to Westport.

Everything here is amazing! Not only the food, but the cocktails. This place is so creative with everything. One of my favorite places in Kansas City. Get the charcuterie board to start. The lamb pot pie is unique(In a cucumber dill cream sauce) and delicious!

First visit and I’m impressed — carnivore at heart and many many choices to keep your cholesterol and triglycerides at a true Midwestern level! Wings and braised beef were great– like the bar and visuals of hanging meat in the coolers.

So far, these guys can do no wrong. This was my first time here since The Local Pig took over this location under their management. The food was excellent before when they were the kitchen staff for Bridger’s and I wanted to see how the menu looked since the change over. I opted for a vegetarian dish(which is hard to find here but at least they HAD one, stuffed pepper with heritage beans, and iced tea. The pepper I think was a poblano, the filling was rice and cheese, but it was tangy and mildly spicy with a smooth tart sauce drizzled over it and topped with feta cheese(I think it was feta). The description on the menu was not detailed so they really had outdone themselves from what I was expecting. I had the strawberry shortcake for dessert but I really think it was pound cake as it was very filling. It was dished up as a cute miniature loaf cake. I liked the atmosphere. Some benches were added and more décor and things in the windows, making it feel homey and inviting. My waiter was very sweet and sufficiently attentive. Prices were reasonable. If a date brought me here, I’d be impressed with their good taste.

This place is one of my favorites – large selection of beer and absolutely delicious food. My usual go-to is the Italian beef sandwich – so tasty. On my most recent venture here, one of my companions had the lamb pot pie – WOW. So tender and flavorful. We also had a smoked pig’s heart as an appetizer – equally delicious. This place is a gem and I will be back again and again.

I came to Kansas City for a work trip & decided to check this place out as it was super close to my hotel. The place is very casual & friendly & I love the fact that you can buy just about any bottles beer you like in the large beer coolers that align the walls. I sat at the bar & quickly ordered one of their beers on tap, a seasonal grapefruit wheat ale, which was rather tasty. I don’t really eat pork or beef so I asked the bartender if there were any other dishes he would recommend & he said the roasted chicken salad. I went with his choice & I have to say, I was seriously disappointed. First off, so salty, wow. I love salt & I found this salad to be disgusting. The roasted chicken was eh, didn’t taste as fresh as I wanted it to & the cheese(mozzarella?) was kinda nasty too, the strawberries were wilted & nasty & overall the salad was just bad. I probably should have just given it back… Everything else was fine. The place is pretty cute. I must have ordered the wrong thing

Highly recommend this place. Started off with the goat cheese and jam spread. The cheese was so fresh and flavorful and it was paired perfectly with jam and walnuts and bread. I could have eaten this for dinner. For my meal, I ordered the pulled pork burger. It came on the most delicious bun imaginable. It was layered with goat cheese, bbq sauce, and corn. The meat was in a patty, but came apart like pulled pork. It was tender and so delicious. Seriously, this was such a great burger… Like an 11 on a 10 or scale. It came with housemade chips, which were super tasty. The bar was stocked was a super impressive beer list… Like hundreds. You can pick up some to bring home at a 30% discount, which is pretty cool. You can also buy fresh meat and cheese to bring home and cook. This is probably my favorite restaurant in KC!

Really happy that they put a meat counter in. This location is much closer to our apartment than the regular location, though the selection is smaller(of course). I miss the selection of beers they used to have(back when it was that other place), but I love that it now has wait service and a wider selection of meals. My husband and I split a bacon bleu burger and the cheesesteak mac. Both were very good. We were skeptical of the burger when we couldn’t give a temperature for it(we like a «rare» medium rare normally), but it came out with some pink and it tasted great, it was juicy, and after asking to add lettuce, tomato and onion it was perfect. Please note, it does not come with any toppings, it’s meat and cheese. :) The cheesesteak mac was also great. Though a tiny bit dry, it didn’t detract from the flavor or experience as a whole. Big pieces of steak with cheesy shells, there isn’t much you can fault it for. One last note, always go for barley salad, that stuff is heaven. They do make their own chips, and that’s awesome, but you can get those at their food truck any old day of the week. TRYTHEBARLEYSALAD!

They have half a pig on display in the walk in cooler. That’s pretty cool. This is not only a nice place to eat but they also sell deli meats. The sandwiches are reasonably priced and delicious. I had the jerk chicken and it was plenty big. Also had the corned beef sandwich special. The sides are Barley salad or homemade chips. Both mediocre. The wait staff is super friendly and for a Saturday night it wasn’t too busy.

We went for brunch — there were four other people at 11am on a Sunday. I was a little worried there might be a reason for that. We went all over the menu — corn bread french toast, breakfast burritos, mushroom and swiss burger and tamales, breakfast blend beer, Bloody Mary’s with chorizo. The French toast was really satisfying — it was dense and served with homemade whipped cream. We all enjoyed a few bites after our savory entrees. The breakfast burrito was flavorful and presented nicely. I liked the sasuage and the sauce over the top was great. Not super spicy, but let the other flavors come through. It was served over arugula which gave it a different texture and bitterness. DH got the burger — just like Pigwich. The meat was cooked well and the chips are what make the meal. One friend got the tamale — he was the first done, so it was either light on the portion or he was just hungry… He did say it was enjoyable and had a variety of flavors. The service was fair. The woman who helped us was friendly, but speed does not seem to be Local Pig’s strong suit. With fewer than ten people in Westport for brunch, you’d think it would be a lot quicker. The décor looks very similar to the east bottoms shop and they do have a case to get stuff for home. The bottled beer continued over from Bridgers and they have a long list of cocktails. We’ll probably give it a go one more time. Otherwise, back to Beer Kitchen…

I finally made it to this lovely establishment the other day. Loved the rustic décor, and my waitress was super nice and friendly. I order the spicy Cheeseburger with habanero sauce and it can with their famous homemade chips. As I waited I perused the meat counter, bought some lamb burgers, and lamb bacon to go. The lady behind the counter was nice enough to bring it to my table, and add it to my bill. Even though they were out of lamb sausage, she took my name and number to call me in the future when they get more in. The burger was good, but a bit overpowering, I ended up scrapping the habanero sauce off, and it was much more enjoyable. At home the lamb bacon was way too salty, but the lamb burgers were tasty. Overall I will be back for more juicy goodness!

I am so sad. I wanted to like this place so bad. I love the East Bottoms location. I have been shopping there since the week it opened and have watched it grow into what it is now. I special order the chorizo verde every year for the Lenexa Chili Festival to make a green chili. Alex Pope even stopped by our booth one year. I’ve had nothing but great experiences at Pigwich and I was excited for the Westport location. But the truth is, the Westport location is not good. At all. I have been there 2 times since it was rebranded from Bridgers into Local Pig. The first time started well, got a spot at the bar, some great beers on tap. Had the buffalo chicken dip which was tasty. Ordered the cheesesteak mac and it was cold. Half of the noodles were lukewarm and the other half were ice cold. As if it had been in the fridge or on ice and reheated improperly before being served. My last experience was last night. Incredibly slow service. Not the waitress’ fault, she was rushing around the place taking care of 6 tables by herself, but the rate at which the food was coming out of the kitchen. Took us an hour to get the food, and our table wasn’t the only one waiting a long time. I got the Spicy Burger and it came out raw. Not undercooked, but red, cold, uncooked meat. The waitress was nice enough about it and did not charge me for the meal but I don’t think I can ever eat here again. It was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had in Kansas City. I will stick to the East Bottoms location or just buy the meat and cook it myself at home. I know they have been working hard to work out the kinks in Westport, but it is even worse now than before. I am so bummed out about this

Imagine a laid-back place with excellent local food, a beer selection a mile long, and a locally-sourced butcher shop in the front. A place that exists outside of the crazy frat-party-on-a-street that is Westport on a Friday night; a place with a karaōke bar adjoining it. If you can imagine this, then you can imagine Westport’s Local Pig! This place was formerly Bridger’s Bottles and Brews, which had food from the Local Pig, but the food suppliers have bought and revamped the place(which was really good to start… and now is really awesome!). The place has a relaxed atmosphere, and the host staff represent one of the nice things about KC — that people are so polite, welcoming, and downright friendly! Fridges line the walls, where you can browse beers and ciders from all over the world. I was so stoked to see my favorite beer in the entire world(Hitachino, from Ibaraki, Japan) stocked here. It’s so hard to find here in the Midwest, and so tasty! As for the food — this place has amazing lunches and dinners. I had their lamb pot pie at my last meal, but I’ve also tried the shephard’s pie, lamb meatballs, and hamburger. Everything here is amazing — fresh food, great flavors, and pretty good sized portions for the cost. The sides are also amazing — their housemade cornbread and barley salad scream«Look at me! I’m delicious American dining that isn’t a French fry!» They have daily specials that are always good. You can also mosey over to Off-Key next door, where you can order food/drinks from Local Pig, and pig out while you sing(or in my case, sing poorly) the night away. In sum, here’s what I got: Atmosphere: 5⁄5(relaxed and chill and not the frenetic Westport that I’ve outgrown) Food: 6/5…seriously, this food is amazing Drinks: 5⁄5 — great selection of beers and also house made cocktails Price: 4⁄5 — a bit more pricey, but worth it for the taste Overall — 5⁄5. No doubt I’ll be back, and back frequently. Great job, Local Pig! That reminds me, I can’t wait to get back to Pigwich as well for another great sandwich :)
