Definitely not worth the price, the hotdogs taste like the lowest quality meats and Un seasoned. Downside too is the cash only policy. The chili needs definite improvement. You can play the sweet by adding onions and or mustard.

8÷1÷14 Down here in Kankakee today should have Unilocaled last night… Driven past this place 20 times and never gave it a glance. Today it looked interesting, like an old DOG N SUDS, let’s give it a try. Ordered the tenderlion sandwich, «sorry we’re out». OK, how about the BBQ sandwich, chili cheese fries and a root beer. ok got it. Sandwich-typical shredded beef with BBQ sauce, ok tang just not BBQy. Chili cheese fries– since when are these supposed to be sweet? Squeeze Cheese, Sweet tasting chili, frozen fries? UGH!!! Rootbeer– cool, not cold, no ice. Maybe I am a rootbeer idiot but my drink needs to be COLD! ICECOLD! The rootbeer was pretty good though(I added ICE). Like the Retro/Drive-In appeal, something lost around here. I’ll give it another try sometime… back down there in 3 months…

After giving up on the disappointing food at the bourbonnais jaenickes I decided to give this one a shot. I haven’t been here in years but I will be returning. The food is just like the jaenickes I remember as a kid! The sauce was great and the buns were cut on top. All the food was hot and the service was friendly.

It’s just ok nothing out of this world. I actually think its to pricey for what you get. It’s not the original owners any more so it’s change. I think the hot dogs at Bozo down the street are better.

Ohhh Jaenickes. My Mom grew up down the street from your rootbeer stand. I had fond memories of visiting my Grandmother, Aunt and Uncle who lived just a few blocks away. As a child, I just lived to have a dog and take a gallon of rootbeer home to my Grandma’s! Alas, I went back last Oct for a reunion and my Mom and I of course had to grab a Chicago Beef. Breaks my heart but it was no where near the same… not even ‘okay’. I’m guessing somewhere down the line the management changed. Still giving it three stars– but just because of such a great memory it used to be :(
