Less than pleased with this place today… drove from Ewa Beach with my elderly mother because she wanted Mike’s Garlic Shrimp. The shrimp was clearly raw… i took i up to the counter, told the girl that this was raw… she merely said“ok, i will bring it to you when its done”. at least 10 minutes later(i was finished with my plate) finally, someone yelled«shrimp». I went up and the plate was just sitting there… the guy nodded at it… gee ok thanks. Hungry and hopeful, my mom starts eating… RAWAGAIN!!! Are you serious??? I took her plate up to the counter and handed her plate to the new person sitting at the window and told him. He wanted to make me another plate!!! Umm no thanks ill never eat there again. You should have offered me my money back. PS– as i was ordered i put a $ 5 in the tip jar and showed my ID so that they knew I was local. A lot of good that did.

While on vacation in Hawaii, my friend and I were watching Diner’s, Drive In’s and DIves. Guy Fieri kept raving about this place and coincidentally we were going to be at Kualoa Ranch the following afternoon. The line wasn’t that bad… about ten people deep… so we thought we would be in and out. However, that was not the case. Service was very slow, and the people who worked the kitchen/who were taking orders were pretty rude. After we ordered, we probably waited about an additional 30 minutes just to get our food. It ended up being ready on the kitchen counter, but they forgot to give it to us. By this time, we were starving. The chicken was okay, nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe even a little dry. It probably tasted so good since we hadn’t eaten all day. I probably won’t return as the wait was way too long and the prices were pretty steep. It was $ 16 for a chicken plate with rice and mac salad. Definitely over priced.

This is one of those places everyone swears by. Me, I didn’t appreciate the hype. The eye catcher was their huli chicken, prepared by mass rotisseri-ing over a bed of hot coals. The roadside grill in full view of the road is magnetic. But this is also the place that boxed my hot chicken on top of my iceberg lettuce salad. By the time I got to it, it had wilted and the chicken had taken on the taste of spoiled iceberg. Nasty. I picked at the meat, could have eaten around that, but I also found the meat to be overcooked. And either the seasoning was bland or it was simply overwhelmed by the cooked lettuce. Anyway, in spite of the charming outdoor dining in lovely Hawaiian style, this was not a good experience for me. I would rather savor the Costco version.

Guy Fieri is either got bribed, or… no, he got bribed… The chicken was dry. Nothing is more disappointing to know your chicken was made the day before. And the garlic shrimp was inedible. They were old and smelled like a mildewed dish towel. Zippys has better chicken.

Got the whole chicken to go and it was so delicious. The sauce want necessary because the chicken already had a lot of flavor, but it made it even better when using it as a dipping sauce. Got the garlic shrimp also and they were juicy and plump. Just have to peel it yourself but it wasn’t hard and it adds flavor. Cash only. A good place to eat on your way to Kualoa Ranch or the Polynesian CC. Will make it a regular place to go to whenever I’m back.

Went here per DDD on food network. We got the Huli chicken and Kalua plate combo. The chicken was good! Not gonna lie, I was satisfied. However, the reason for the 2 stars is, the mushy rice, bland Mac salad, and the price. The Kalua was nothing special, but didn’t really expect much from kalua pork. If I were to come back, it would to just buy the whole chicken, and take it home. Quick Tip: Cash only place *star rating is based overall, 3 stars = meets expectation

We ordered a whole chicken and a char siu plate. All in all about $ 23. Chicken was tasty, Mac salad was spot on, but the rest was kind of bad. The rice was chewy, which is not the best sign for a real local place. The char siu cuts were about half meat and half fat. The sauce was also very very sweet. It didn’t feel roasted at all. Overall the food experience felt mediocre. The customer service we got was just flat out terrible. The guy at the front was looking at his phone without acknowledging us for a couple minutes. It wasn’t that busy, and we would have understood if he asked us to wait a second, but there was nothing. He then took our order as if it was a great inconvenience to him. Really surprising for a local place that’s generating a lot of tourist business from DDD. Not a good way to represent our islands at all.

I don’t know what took me so long to check this place out… Oh that’s right because it’s cash only and I barely carry cash! Haha but yesterday, guess who had cash money with them… haha! You need to try their chicken! Omg it’s soooooo good! Even though I ordered a half piece chicken plate, the chicken was kind of small but worth every penny! My fiancé got the steak plate and he enjoyed it as well… They have this sauce that comes with it on the side that’s just so delicious! Service was great, wait time was approximately less than 5 minutes, and food was excellent! Enjoy!

This is the first eatery that did not live up to the DDD hype. I have eaten at almost every establishment that Guy Fieri recommends(and 99% of the time he’s spot on). This was that 1% for me that was just… meh. If you base the score on the smell of the food, it’d be a 5 all day. But that is not the case. Rotisserie Chicken at(Maui Mikes) is packs the right flavor and juice that makes you suck the bone and lick your fingers… Mike’s was missing that for me. Very nice atmosphere, plenty of seating, and great side options. Appreciate the military discount!

May have been the best meal that I had while on Oahu. Sure, the salad is just simple bagged lettuce, but the Huli Huli chicken was SOGOOD. I ordered a ¼ chicken plate, but I’m certain I was given ½ chicken. It was well seasoned, flavorful, and juicy. I ordered the food to go and ate it in my car. I just couldn’t wait

I just went here because it looked so cute. My shrimp and chicken platter was great but the servings are way too big. For the amount of food, the price was more than justified. Service was not that great, but probably it was because I was here right after lunchtime, so they must have been a bit exhausted. However, the atmosphere(imagine driving by the coast all day, lying at some of the worlds most beautiful beaches, swim in the pacific and after all, lunch at some outdoor place that is grilling chicken outdoor in some place that looks a bit like a run-down parking lot(not in a bad way!)) deserves at least one extra point. It’s an amazing place that you shouldn’t miss when staying on the island.

Mike’s food was GOOD but not great. My group and I heard wonderful things about Mike’s Huli Chicken so while we were in North Shore, we knew we had to make a stop. Excited by the short line and vacant tables, I ordered the highly recommended huli chicken with a side of garlic shrimp and two scoops of rice. I’m sad to report, I wasn’t able to finish my plate. First, the chicken was moist but a bit too salty for my liking. I chased my chicken with rice to quell the taste of salt but to my disappointment, the rice was a bit mushy for my liking too. I should add I’m particular about my rice though — I look for a perfect balance of stickiness and texture. Mike’s rice was mushy and lacked any texture. Last, there were too many scavenger birds and flies for me to enjoy my food outside Mike’s trailer. I was waving around my plate every other bite. If you’re in North Shore, stop by Mike’s and order TAKEOUT to eat off site. If you’re not in North Shore, don’t make the drive.

Expensive and not that good. I had a chicken and garlic shrimp combo for $ 17.50. The chicken was overcooked and bland, and the shrimp was drowning in butter, but tasted OK. The rice was very mushy and the salad was just a wilted salad mix from a bag. We were harassed by large black flies while eating. The shrimp was cooked with their shells on, so you’ll need to peel them with your hands to eat. Fortunately, there is a large outdoor sink nearby to clean up before and after your meal. They seem to be coasting on their reputation since Guy Fieri stopped by a few years ago.

It was my first time here and I regret that everytime we drive to North Shore we just pass by Mike’s Huli Chicken and we don’t stop to eat. When we got there it wasn’t busy, only couple of tables were occupied maybe because it was passed peak hours. Food was good. I enjoyed my Huli Chicken stir fry, it was so good for $ 12.75. The reason I am giving it 4 stars because when we went there, there were two guys at the truck who got our orders and didn’t even smile or say hi, hello to their customers. In short, they lack customer service which is very important. But inspite of that, I will be back because the food was great.

Saw this place on the Food Channel. I don’t come to this side often, so since I was in the area I made sure to stop by here for lunch. We came here about 1pm, probably just missed the lunch rush. However it took them awhile to make our plate. Which I dont mind too much, I like having freshly made food ;] The Grub. [[ CHICKEN&GARLICSHRIMPCOMBO $ 17.50 ]] This plate comes with two scoops of rice, your choice of mac salad or greens and 6 pieces of shrimp and half a chicken. The food was good, but for almost $ 20? Uhhh no. Overall the food was good, but I personally think it is way over priced.

My other half knows when I’m close to this side of the islands, it is a must to stop here! If we go to Windward mall or make a stop around the island. Sometimes, I make an excuse to be on the windward side of the islands, just so I can make a stop here for the ONO chicken. Why do you have to be so far away Mike’s?! Look for the Yellow truck, yellow flags, & the workers cooking those chicken, on Kamehameha Hwy. You will not miss it, You don’t want to miss it! FYI: they charge 50 cents for if you want to have your whole chicken chopped. (It is only 50 cents! but they should provide this service free of charge since we are buying the chicken) & there is no Kama’aina discount anymore– its all the same price per the cashier. I always remember having a discount, a dollar off.(any savings do help!!) Other than the FYI. The chicken is yummers! yummy! It is so totally worth it to stop by on the way. It is really juicy, moist, & very tasty! I always request for the well done, burnt chicken!(The chicken smells so good!!) Don’t forget to ask for the spicy sauce so you can eat them with your chicken. A whole bird cost 11.00. — not bad considering this is tourist place. Besides Chicken, Mike’s has many other items on the menu. Kalua Pork, Garlic Shrimp, — Id just go straight for the chicken. Can’t rate the other stuff! I enjoy looking at all the pictures posted on his truck. Mike is one popular guy! *Don’t miss the turn when you are on Kam Hwy.!! & be sure to stop for the chicken crossing the road to Mike’s.(Per sign)

Driving around enjoying the scenery does make me a bit hungry. Mike’s Huli Chicken really hit the spot. Liked it so much we came back a few more times. Love the layout of the outdoor seating and ordering area. Beautiful potted plants and a wonderful awning to provide lot’s of shade. Huli chicken, Kalua pig, succulent pineapple, what more could a girl ask for? This was by far, hands down, game over, the best place to eat in all of the land! Make sure to stop here at least a few dozen times before going home. Mike it was an honor to meet you. Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us. It will long be remembered in my vacation photo book! If you get the chance to meet Mike, you’ll find he is extraordinarily friendly, humble, kind and passionate about his food.

Smoke was rising into the sky. Flames licked the chicken as it slow turned over the grill. Huli huli chicken the sign said. I tried making it myself and I didn’t die afterwards. Yet the experience was less than satisfying. Mike’s was highly rated on Unilocal and I was excited to try the chicken here. Service was swift and I could smell that sweet scent of kiawe wood grilled chicken. The dark skin was crunchy. The meat tender and moist. Sweet flavor of the huli huli sauce and chicken was delicious. Best huli huli chicken I have ever had. :-) Kalua pork was made in an imu oven. Tender pork with flavors of smoke, pork, and a bit of salt. One of the best kalua pork plates I’ve had. Kalbi ribs were tender and the flavors of the sauce, the smokiness, and the beef were well balanced. One of the best kalbi dishes I’ve had. Pineapple was grown in Hawaii. There is a juicy sweetness to Hawaii pineapples I have never found anywhere else. In California most of the pineapples I see were grown in Costa Rica. Flavor is way less sweet and really kicks you hard when eating it. This Hawaiian pineapple is so sweet and goes down smooth. :-) Food was so good I couldn’t get enough in one meal. I ate here twice in one day. Flavors perfectly match my palate. I was lucky enough to meet Mike as he was checking on his customers. Real nice guy who didn’t mind taking a photo with us. He told us about how he prepared his kalua pork and his meeting with Guy Fieri. This is one of the coolest places I’ve ever eaten at.
