Mama’s Island Pizza is no more. They closed up a couple of months ago after changing owners.

*1st Unilocal review* Visited Mama’s for the first time on Father’s Day this past Sunday. Place was about 70% full and the pizza looked awesome. We ordered the Veggie Delight(medium) and two beers. After 50 minutes of nursing our beers to death, we observed the party in line after us receiving their pizza and salads. We immediately approached the counter and asked for a refund in which they had to refund the entire tab with the beers then re-ring sans the pizza. The cashier felt bad as our pizza was there on the counter and looked delicious. The owner happened to be there and started offering excuses why the wait was so long(i.e. large party; accident in the kitchen, etc). We just emphasized that we waited long enough and wanted our refund. The owner snidely mentioned: ‘Maybe you have some tips on running a business.’ Ah, yeah, got 50 minutes? We avoided confrontation and disappointingly left(but hungry). In these economic times, customer service should be paramount. We could have taken our business elsewhere, but we decided to spend it on a small local establishment to support kamaaina. In this case, customer retention should have been vital but this opportunity was neglected(notice the trend). The owner could have apologized(no excuses; sh*t happens), sucked her ego and offered to comp our two beers as some form of acknowledgement. Unfortunately, this did not happen and here I am writing this review. All businesses face adversity, it’s those that rise and persevere through that challenge without sacrificing on customer service that will succeed. Spread the word.

Our family loves this pizza — our favorite is the BBQ Kalua Pork Pizza — the red onions and Kalua Pork are so great and a nice easy way to go out of the box for non-locals. When we ventured IN to the restaurant vs. the delivery we were pleasantly surprised by the new owners who were friendly and happy to be settled in Hawaii. They were nice about our(sometimes loud) 3 year old and I saw them making the pizzas fresh all night long. And they had good beer(Kona Brewing Co.) for my husband!

I am a(mostly) Italian chick from Detroit. My fiancé is local. I love going to visit his family and I love Hawaii. Love(and i mean looooove) the food, the people and the beauty. That being said, I have yet to find a really good pizza place on Oahu. Mama’s is as close as you can get to good midwestern style pizza.(If you like greasy NY style, try Boston’s.) Round Table is just, well, just bad. It has a decent amount of sauce, the crust isn’t too thin(still, it isn’t bready enough for me) and they don’t skimp on the toppings. The people there are nice and accommodating. Don’t go there if you are in a hurry, but who there is? Here is the breakdown: * Wait staff: Nice. * Drink Menu: I think its just Beer and Soda * Menu: Pizza and sandwiches * Parking: There is a huge lot * Dress: Casual

My 100th review! If you don’t like thin crust pizza with cornmeal, don’t order from Mama’s. You’ll be disappointed. I personally watched them make my pizza last time I was here, so they certainly didn’t pre-bake it. I find the crust crunchy and crisp, not hard and crapy. The topping combinations on the menu are interesting. I’ve had pizza from here 5 times and loved it every time. If you take it home, you’ll have cornmeal everywhere. My friend in Lanikai got several for a party. Everyone raved about how good it was, but she complained about the cornmeal landing in every nook and cranny of the living room and kitchen. Luckily she has someone come in to clean.

This place competes with Round Table Pizza(in Kailua) for worst pizza I’ve ever had. I hear they prebake the pizzas and just reheat it when it’s ordered. Lame. That’s why the crust is so hard and crappy. They recently changed owners, and I had hope things would improve, but it doesn’t appear to be so.

The family that owns this darling little pizzaria are so nice it is criminal. I am not partial to a thinner crust, but their fresh ingredients sure make a tasty pizza. My fav? the margarita pizza, when they have it bring your elbows –cause I plan on eating EVERYSLICE! HA!

we went to the visitor center looking for maps and a good place to eat. the volunteer recommended mama’s. i was hesitant to go over because i figured pizza is pizza, i wanted local food. we were hungry one night after bike riding and decided to give it a try. great friendly staff willing to answer any questions. the chef even came out to ask how we were doing.(we faked it and said it was good, i’m a scared-die cat) we ordered the half kaula pig and half house special pizza. the crust was hard and made of some weird cornbread like concoction. the kaula pig was burnt. it didn’t go well together. i ordered a salad to get my daily dose of veggies but was disappointed. i could have gone next door to the grocery store and made it myself instead of paying more than four bucks. the beer list was larger than i expected. positive. next time going next door for the cheap japanese sushi.
