Be willing to WAIT!!! N WAIT N WAIT Sat at bar n wasn’t acknowledged, as we were only ones seated. Good thing I opened my mouth and ordered right a loaded bloody Mary right away. We waited patiently for our ocean view seating and sitted within 10min but still no drinks. We ordered right away with server, ihad the lobster crab eggs Benedict, n definitely very tasty but over 20+min wait, drinks empty so as food arrived we had to order another drink n napkins, so about midway second round arrived n then finished with meal napkins arrived. Spent a whole 1.20 min here which would be great if nothing else was planned for the day.

I have been here a few times with differing levels of service. I’m a resident here for the last 3 years and have withheld my opinion, but tonight Kyle really went over the top, so I finally am here giving this place a rating. Food was FABULOUS. Came out fast and beautifully. Chowder was RIDICULOUS. If you get it, get the chowder bread bowl and share, it’s huge and totally filling. I couldn’t eat my dinner after — but I did try tasting it and the pasta was fantastic. TIP: businesses all around Kona have VIP cards for a free chef’s appetizer — use it! Sometimes it is Calamari, sometimes shrimp Ceviche. Good stuff! Kyle was sweet, attentive, funny and really helpful. He hinted that we should have the Mac Nut pie — rich and indulgent. Also an awesome dessert. Thanks Kyle!!!

The atmosphere was wonderful. Beach was right across the street. My husband had the fish trio. It had a medley of flavored and delicious! I had the Ono dish and I could say enough about it. It had a flavorful chili sauce. Sooooo good.

We ate breakfast here twice during our stay in Kona. We loved the menu selection. My husband had the Waffles and omlete. I had a egg white wrap and then I had the vegetarian omlete. We enjoyed eating breakfast here. The staff were friendly and chatty both times we ate here. They have $ 5 breakfast drinks. Perfect for vacation breakfast!

My friend and I went here for dinner on 1⁄29. The entire menu is pretty pricey for what they offer. I ordered a coconut pineapple colada drink($ 11)…it was ok. It seriously lacked any flavor and I didn’t taste any alcohol. .the presentation of the drink though was nice. For dinner I ordered the beef and shrimp skewers which came with rice and veggies($ 19)… The beef was tender but the shrimp was overcooked. This entrée was one of the least expensive options. Most of the entrée options was an average of($ 25-$ 30). My friend ordered the shrimp trio($ 24). It was ok. The view of the restaurant was great… right across from the ocean. The service was friendly, but we also felt rushed in getting done because the place was closing within the hour. The next day, we decided to go there for breakfast because they had a special for $ 8.95 which includes 2 eggs of your choice, rice, potatoes, or fruit choice, and meat choice, and toast choice. Everything else though on the brunch menu averages around $ 15 per entrée. The restaurant was busy at 10:30am. Our server was a bit on the slow side, but she was nice enough. Will I come here again? Probably not. There are other restaurants around that are much more affordable.

Our first time here, this place is fantastic! Great breakfast, great service and friendly staff. We visit the big island every few years and I don’t know how we missed this restaurant. Robert(manager), John(our waiter) and Wendy(hostess) were exceptionally courteous and engaging. The food was hot and tasted excellent. View is the best anywhere. Highly recommended!!!

The view is the best part. The fish tacos were sad and lacking any flavor. The calm chowder, was underwhelming and salty. The Mai tai… not sure if there was anything other than juice and some myers floated on top. the staff was great but the food and drinks were so disappointing. Don’t waste your time or money. Go down the humpys!

Wow!!! We were looking for a great place for me and my wife to go on a date! We struck gold coming here!!! Food was absolutely amazing lobster, scallops, crab and shrimp all on a bed of pasta!!! So delicious! My wife enjoyed the ribs and she is still raving!!! But more importantly, the service!!! It was the best service I have ever received!!! Tim B. was absolutely an amazing server! Polite, entertaining and had great recommendations!!! His manager Joel Genavia and Robert Zimmerman was amazing also! He came over multiple times to check on us!!! And it wasn’t slow, this place was slammed and he still made time for us! Make sure if you eat here you ask for Tim!!! You won’t regret it!

Whenever I come for vacation, I need to make my nights count! That means hitting up the local food joints and bars to see if anything changed or to see any new hot spots in my hometown. This spot has been here for a while but I heard they got a new face lift so I definitely needed to check them out. When my friend and I got there, I noticed a huge face lift! The place looked like an oversized outside lanai(patio) with restaurant tables and tropical themed ceiling fans. The place was adorned with Christmas lights to go with the Holiday theme. I got sat right in front of the water so it was an amazing view. Our server was nice and definitely showed her personality which I liked. Not too much interaction with her but enjoyed our time. Here’s what I decided to get for my meal: –Oysters Rockefeller for $ 18. As a part of their Christmas 2015 menu, there were 5 half shelled oysters, served with garlic spinach, parmesan cheese and herbed bread crumbs and Hollandaise sauce. The flavors were good, the texture was a bit strange and tasted like the dish was sitting out for a bit. The bread crumbs seemed a bit stale but nothing totally bad. Just wasn’t a top pick for me. –Alii Drive Surf and Surf for $ 42. Snow crab legs and a Lobster tail, wasabi mashed potatoes and season veggies served with drawn butter. The veggies were baby broccoli. The only problem with this dish was that there wasn’t enough crab legs! Everything was super fresh and delicious, I really enjoyed this dish. All in all, the food was actually really good. I’d definitely be up for returning on my next trip home to try someone on their regular menu. If it’s as good as the Christmas menu, then I’m in for a big treat!

This place is very expensive and the food is not worth the $$$. The drinks are OK but I didn’t like the clam chowder and the mahi mahi was really bland. It was fully cooked as some part but really raw lower in the fish… I would try anything but this next time. NOTWORTHIT

Do not waste your money here! Obviously people don’t come to Hawaii for the excellent food, but this was abysmal. They were out of more than 50% of the fish options on the menu, and what we did end up ordering was barely cooked and cold, served with hash browns(you know — the kind you buy frozen at Safeway?) My brother had to send back his mussels and clams as being completely inedible — the first time he’s ever done such a thing in 28 years. The service was slow as hell. A total waste of time and money, I would give this one star, but the poor waiters and bartender were very nice to us. The waiter didn’t seem the least bit shocked that we wanted to send food back or were disappointed. That poor guy!

We stopped here following the Kona Boat parade to try something new. While the prices seemed a bit high it was not outrageous considering Kona caters to tourist. Service was slow and there were no set ups on the table when we arrived. The waitress was friendly but would have likely told me the spam sauté was fabulous when I asked for recommendations. My first appetizer request was out due to the ban on Dungeness crabs. My backup plan — the poke — was generic. Prior to ordering, I asked the waitress whether there was avocado in the poke. She replied, «I think so.» There wasn’t. The chips served with the poke were greasy and appeared to come from the bottom of the bag. Not one was large enough to hold the ahi. I skipped the remaining chips and used chopsticks. For my entrée, I chose the Monchong over risotto. The fish was delightful but the risotto had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. NONE. Fortunately, I had requested lemon with my water and squeezed to wedges over the plate in an attempt to bring the risotto back to life. While the spritz helped the spinach(a two-bite portion) it did little to revive the room temperature rice dish. As for the tomatoes and artichokes that were to accompany the risotto, perhaps garnish would be a better description.

This is a review of the bar only. On our last night on the island, we stopped in for a drink. The bar was empty on the side away from the street and view of the ocean. So we plopped ourselves down there. It turns out, these were great seats since this is where the crew has their center of operations. We were able to watch them interact and make drinks, it was really cool. The staff was awesome. The two bartenders were the two typical types, one was laid back and mellow, the other was a happy guy. The bar back was an guy who was working pretty hard but things seemed a little difficult for him. But he was doing well. The waitress who was starting her shift was a real sweetheart. She greeted her coworkers with a small peck on the cheek. That was cool to see. Ok, that’s nice, but what about the drinks? They were darn good… not too sweet and plenty strong. We should have stayed and had another, but we were going to go up and down the street. Will we be back? Sure, we hope to. This was a fun place to hang out and drink.

This place was horrible. I would really really recommend not going. Save yourselves the disappointment of this meal. Everything tastes strange and gross even down to the soda and the water. The soda and water at first tasted like dishwater. I think they did not clean out the cup well. When I complained to the waiter he didn’t seem surprised. I guess many people complain about the funny taste of their drinks. Then the waiter brought out a second cup of soda that had lost all of its carbonation and still tasted awful. I ordered the shrimp and scallop skewer. It had one tiny skewer with one small piece of shrimp and only one tiny scallop. We ended up spending $ 25 for the one piece shrimp, one piece of scallop, a couple green beans, some awful coconut glaze, and a spoonful of rice. It was Extremely overpriced. The coconut sauce that came with it was disgusting. You could really taste that it came from a can. The green beans had no crunch to them and were not fresh at all. The portion was tiny and extremely overpriced. The majority of the plate was barely edible. I was more hungry by the time we were leaving. Do not go to this place. It was truly awful. Worst food experience we had on our trip to Hawaii.

I didn’t know the name of this restaurant, and I probably would’ve passed it up had I known, but I’m glad I didn’t. The french toast breakfast was a nice treat. It’s topped with macadamia nuts and coconut. so good. I tried other similar items at other restaurants while I was in Hawaii, and The Fish Hopper’s was the best. The waitress was really nice and helpful. It looks like they have a variety of interesting alcoholic drinks. I was hoping we’d make it back in the evening, though we never did.

We were starving looking for a nice good place to eat downtown. I asked many people and they recommended the fish hopper. We both got the burger and it was amazing. Juicy and made us full.(We eat a lot!) the price was worth it. We even got a free appetizer of ceviche because I had a coupon. The waitresses are super sweet especially this one lady I met but I forgot her name. It has a view of the water in front. We watched people on the huge cruise come to the pier by boat.

The Fish Hopper has got to be a favorite of mine in Kona! Location: 5 stars– ocean front view! The absolute best. Any seating here is a great view but is highly recommend making reservations so you can get right up in the front. Located near shops is in the town so there is plenty to do before/after you eat. Also parking in the back is very convenient in this busy town. Food: 5 star Amazing! Everything was tasty and worth remembering for the next time. I’d highly recommend the CLAMCHOWDER it’s the best I’ve ever had!!! Most tables around is were enjoying a bowl. I’d come back time and time again just to try that. For dinner I had the shrimp trio, also tasty and unique. Everything brought to our table was enjoyable. Service: 4.5 star. Friendly and overall good service. Waiter was nice & our food was brought out correctly. Service started to lack a little in the end with drink refills and getting the check but all in all it was a good experience and I recommend this place.
