A reasonable local supermarket. They have tons of Japanese food stuff as well as local produce. The staff was friendly and helpful. As I am not staying in a condo here, I cannot try their fresh food but tofu dip and Okara(seasoned soy meal) I got there were pretty good! Next time when I come back to the big island, I make sure I rent a condo with kitchen!

We stop here each time I fly out to Kona for work. They have an assortment of local coffee, Kaū, Keaau, Kona and flavored coffee. Deli: You can build your sandwich or grab ones that were pre-made. I usually grab a tuna, egg salad or turkey sandwich. They have different varieties of mac/potato, mac salad, salads. They have spam musabis either pre-made or made to order. Bakery: small bakery. THE best is their butter mild donuts. Hot Deli: a variety of items. I like the pork adobo, Hawaiian Plate, chicken papaya, Hobo Bowl(rice) with beef stew, curry or chili. I may have tried most everything on their line. Their seafood section is open early and you can get poke or a poke bowl. Final thoughts: They have everyone you would expect for food shopping. The people working their are friendly. It’s a local business with locations in Kona, Waimea and Hilo on the Big Island. Definitely will be back.

KTA is a quaint store located in the Kona Coast Shopping Center. Their parking lot has a good amount of parking, and the store in general is never all that busy. The workers here are all super friendly. When we were purchasing fireworks, like 3 workers all came over to help us find what we were looking for lol. We like to come here for produce and just other necessities when we’re going to cook dinner. They have a good coupon book that comes in the mail every so often(I think/hope they still do this lol) that offers really great deals. But if you don’t have the coupon book with you, they usually have extra loose coupons right at their cash registers that you’re free to use.

Stopped by to pick up some supplies, nice spacious and well stocked. Great prices on Poke and other staples. However they do not have those cute shopping bags like the other store. They have basic shopping bags that’s it.

I’ve been beaten down by Kona grocery stores and now have to give KTA another star. Still awful. But, they have some Asian ingredients that other stores don’t, they have some good prices on canned goods, they also have some good deals on produce. OK one of these is a super lie, I’ll give you a hint, it is the produce. Also the shopping environment is like a 1970s communist store.

I like KTA at Keauhou better(they have great baked goodies), but Kona store is good too. Lots of local products from fresh fruits and vegetable to snacks. Their Mountain Apple Brand is excellent! I like supporting local business and almost all of the workers are very friendly and helpful!

KTA in Keauhou is a store that I always try stop by to pick up local products. Local produced Kona Coffee, Franks smoke meats, Dried Opelu and Cookies. If you are looking for a supermarket that supports local made products then KTA is your store. I like that they always have frozen blue ice ready to use for items that have to be chilled for the flight back. I love looking at all the different and unique items that are only found on the Big Island. Note: I did find 4/pre-made shots for $ 6.99…What a deal! Friendly customer service and lots of parking make this store a must stop. Support your local business!

I love the KTA in the Keauhou Shopping Center, but I could not get past the disgusting smell when I walked into this store. It smells like the bathroom on an airplane or airport. I walked in got my stuff and quickly left. The produce looks old. Who wants to shop in a grocery store that stinks? Gross.

It is passing strange to realize I’ve been shopping here 3 decades, and little has changed in layout or vibe. I come here for local products in particular fresh fish. Their ahi and ono are usually good, pay attention to the pack date and make sure it is the same date you are shopping. They also stock local produce and milk and beef. It does not have the selection of Safeway that is a few blocks away, but it is smaller and a Kona institution.

When my fiancé and I went to Kona we wanted to grab some snacks and beers. We used the trusty old GPS to find the closest supermarket and we ended up here at KTA. It was pretty clean, but small compared to Oahu standards. Nevertheless, the store had all we needed to make our vacation relaxing. We got our beer and snacks and went to the register which was pretty much empty. The guy says, «Hi! My name is Ernie! How’s your night going?(insert big smile)» We were kind of taken aback by the friendly/smiley service you don’t really see on Oahu. In fact, it was really weird… But hey, happy people, beer, plenty of parking and no long lines — can’t complain!

This store was just a block and a half from the King Kam hotel where we were staying. So it was close, but the reason we went there was for the malasadas. OMG! They are soooo good! Malasadas are a Hawaiian hole-less donut that came from the Portuguese settlers here. They come in different sizes. At KTA’s bakery, they are about three inches wide and an inch and a half thick. The raised dough is made with condensed milk and eggs so it has a rich flavor not found in mainland raised donuts. Usually malasadas, after being fried to a golden brown, are dusted with granulated sugar, sometimes with cinnamon, too. We tried the taro, cream filled and plain. Each was delicious. The Bavarian cream malasada was liberally filled with a rich pastry cream with hints of dairy and vanilla that overwhelmed the flavor of the malasada a bit. The coffee there is in pump containers. There are different ‘flavors’ to choose from. The days we were there, however, there was no half and half for the coffee. Only pump bottles of flavored Coffee Mate, and since we did not want sweetened non-dairy creamer to spoil the great Kona coffee they had, we passed on purchasing any. Go to KTA for any deli or grocery items you may need during your stay, but definitely make the KTA bakery your destination for at least one breakfast of malasadas.

Everything you always wanted in a local grocery store. Prices that won’t bust your budget, fantastic seafood and deli counter(killer plate lunch!) and managers/cashiers who talk to you like you’re local.

This is going to sound a little crazy, reviewing the bakery counter for a supermarket. But the KTA at Keahou deserves a review. Not just any review, mind you, but a glowing one. Why? Because the pastry is so damn good. When we arrive on the island we usually stay near Keahou, we like the access to Kona and to the coffee plantations. We’ve gotten into the habit of getting coffee and pastry at the KTA for breakfast, saving about $ 40 daily from resort costs for breakfast. Over a week that adds up, and it’s all the better because we sacrifice nothing when it comes to quality or taste. In addition to the pastry(I love their banana bread) you can get cake and hot items, such as eggs and sausage, as well. I had four slices of Mrs. M’s Kuololo cake(a mix of pineapple and macadamia) and I still want more. Anyway, check it out, you will find something you like. And at $ 1.25 for 16 oz of Ka’u coffee, you can sit on your balcony watching the ocean, paying for that upgrade with the money you save on breakfast.
