Ate here with a friend on Saturday. My food was fine but my friend had the mac and gravy and got food poisoning. So happy I did not eat that. Will not be returning.

We thought they were kidding when the young guys at the end of the counter recommended the Mac and gravy. Nope. They weren’t. Maybe it was the late night hour, but our party of four loved it!!! But even better was the main food. The cheeseburger mess plate was stupendous, especially the fries. Cheesesteak? Not so much. We loved the cook and the staff, and the general ambiance, especially since the post fire renovations. Here’s to the MJD and Miss Bonnie!

Miss Johnstown Diner is the Waffle House of the city. The local nickname is «The Greasy Spoon» but don’t be fooled; this place has been creating special memories for many generations of visitors. The inside resembles an old railroad car and the food, while greasy, has done a fabulous job curing hangovers for an endless number of late night guests. The food here isn’t gourmet by any means, but it’s cooked to order and many of the specials are homemade, like the biscuits with sausage and gravy. Yum! I’ve been here for breakfast and the service was awesome and our order was up within minutes, single minutes. And, was incredible compared to what we ate at Travers the day prior. Crispy bacon was awesome. Eggs and potatoes were hot and everything tasted great. And, the experience, is more than just greasy food. Normally, the people who work here have their kids and friends on site and gossip while you’re eating. It’s a great time to catch up on local news, their personal life and hear some things you thought were only made for TV. In short, this is a small town spot that’s frequented by locals, drunks and those looking for a cheap meal — which you can find here. The value can’t be beat!

A visit to the Miss Johnstown Diner is best accomplished on a Saturday or Sunday morning at some point after midnight after many cocktails, as it has been for the last 30 years(at least) We just went here a couple weeks ago. Sit at the counter or get a table, if you can get one as the place fills up with drunken revelers for good drunk food. Must-try menu item: Macaroni salad with beef gravy But you can get burgers and fries, eggs and hashbrowns, all the typical diner food. Every town should have a greasy spoon like this one.
