The last time I and a few of my friends visited this place was on a Friday evening and the place was crowded. We could clearly see the owner unable to handle the crowd by mixing up orders and arguing with the staff. Of the 8 items we ordered, the appetizers came in after we were done and about to leave. Tables here are arranged so close together that there is hardly any room to pull a chair to sit in this restaurant. In addition the location where we were seated was smelling awful with poor levels of hygiene throughout the restaurant. The food tasted just OK and not as good as we had expected from the reviews. The overall experience was kind of ruined by the crowd, confusion in the orders, unhygienic conditions and apathy among employees. Wouldn’t go in and try this place again.

The name of the restaurant is good. My experience: Sanitary Conditions: Pathetic Kitchen: Unhygienic End Result: I got sick for three days. Why did I eat: I thought the cooked food will be without germs. I think, I got sick from chutney(s). Tomato chutney was smelling little bit. Food is okay but health(sanitary) conditions are worse. You will probably will get sick, just the way I got sick for three days. I had to file a complaint with the City of Jersey City. 1. The restaurant had some kind of a smell. 2. I did order the food assuming that it is the smell from the old building. After paying the bill, I did go to the restroom to wash my hands. While walking, I have noticed that food is open and they were kept near the restroom. The restroom doors are wide open. 3. The first restroom floor was wet especially near the toilet. I was not sure, if it was a urine or water. However, it was smelling 4. There was no toilet paper, hand towel and not even hand washing liquid. Which means, there is a possibility that food is cooked with dirty/filthy hands. We can imagine if someone from kitchen takes a Sh*t, they might not be washing with liquid soap. 5. The people who are cooking did not use any kind of hat or cover on their heads while cooking. 6. The person who does collect money was also touching food. There is a high probability that this restaurant has rats and cockroaches inside the kitchen. It will cost less than $ 3 to buy a gallon of bleach, and ½ hour of work to clean the bathrooms. Then, to buy hand washing liquid in a bulk is not even expensive. A bottle would cost around $ 2.00. OR they can buy from a dollar store. Hand towels could be expensive but they can put a nice hand dryer. The one they had it sucks !! Toilet paper — If the restaurant is worried about someone stealing the toilet paper. They need to get a toilet paper holder with a lock. It is the responsibility of the restaurant to follow standards and maintain sanitary conditions. We are in America. Consumer should call the health department and file a complaint. Otherwise, these restaurants are giving sickness. Restaurants knowingly giving sickness to people is a crime. They should be jailed, penalized and business should be closed until it is cleaned

Place is good for food, but poor organization. You can see the owner fighting with the cook who is making dosa’s. Pls don’t order dahi vada. They order it from outside. This is the worst experience i have had in the all the hotels i have visited till date. Unhygienic place.

Came in for a Samosa. Have been here numerous times and most things are cooked to order. Am guessing the rush of the Sunday crowd caused them to cut corners. My food was microwaved. I watched the woman put my food in the microwave and the man placed it in the styrofoam container to go. There are many good Indian restaurants on this strip so this will be my last visit. Unacceptable.

We have been to this place couple of times. Must say that the décor is not the best. The place itself can be kept more clean. This time we ordered Paper Mysore Masala Dosa which was big and was relatively good in taste. The plate itself was small in which the dosa was served to the extent that our Dosa was touching the table. It would be nice if they could serve in the dishes which can accommodate the portion of the food. The sambar is complimentary which is not the best in taste. Somehow the sambhar tastes weird here. They gave 2 complimentary chutney’s with the dosa. The coconut chutney was good but the other chutney sucked.

If there was a –ve star i would have probably chosen it. I generally do not believe in writing reviews but i am forced to write it this time around. I ordered idli, pongal, lemon rice and mysore masala dosa. To start off the cutlery was very very basic and i am quite ok with the idea of using disposable ones but absolutely no standard. They have these tiny thermocol plates used to serve all their items. Being self serve, i had to walk multiple times to complete my dish either to get chutney or their sambar. Their hot sambar which is quite tasteless as per chennai standards is held in a huge container from which it is quite difficult to help yourself. Coming to the main-course their idlis were rock hard, pongal felt like plain dal+rice and i don’t know for what reason i was served a mirchi bhajji with it. We also had invited some friends over who had ordered mysore masala and they felt the same. Overall everyone in my family was thoroughly dissatisfied with this joint.

The dosa batter was spoilt and hence the dosas tasted rotten. Upon informing the guy who runs the place about this issue, he disputed my claims. I am from Tamil Nadu, the land of dosas and you cannot fool a tamilian with dosa. The place is run by a bunch of North Indians who have no clue about how to cook dosas. The sambar was good but the chutneys sucked. I would highly recommend that this place be avoided. There are many other better places on Newark avenue serving good dosas.

I love this place so much! My favorites masala dosa, idli, vada combo. So delicious! Plus unlimited sambar. Go for the food, not the décor.

Very authentic experience, great place for dosas. It’s a canteen style casual restaurant nothing fancy, but if you’re going for some good dosas it’s worth a drop by!

Came here with my anorexic friend(we’re going to more restaurants than ever. I think I found the cure!) we shared a palak paneer masala dosai. I thought it would be palak paneer the curry stuffed inside the dosAi but instead the spinach was in the dosai batter itself which was a little disappointing but oh well. We were starving so it was good anyhow. Bathrooms are nasty, Indian style.

4 stars is for the food!!! 0 stars for the restaurant maintenance!!! This place is rustic and crappy kept. Go strictly for food(dosa!!) only. The prices are cheap and lentil soup is on the house — self serve.

I’ve been coming here for years. If you are especially squeamish or a germaphobe, this may not be the place for you. However, despite the general worn-down vibe, there’s a reason why this place has been here years and years. The food is good. I am a lover of idli, and the steamed idli here is perfect every single time. I’ve never had bad idli here. Although I order it much less, I’ve also never had a bad dosa. The coconut chutney is my favorite, and the masala dosa never disappoints — I think they use Amul cheese in their dosas which is also a touch that I appreciate.

Décor– see the posted pictures and make your assessment. Its a quick cheap eat, not for date night. Had takeout twice this week and had no idea what anything was on this vast takeout menu being that I’m not Indian Day 1: short Indian cashier recommends masala dosa. my son and I enjoyed it. Dosa is like a crispy roti with potato filling in middle. The masala are the sauces?. I am then made aware almost everything on the menu says dosa masala, lol– but there are variations. Day 2: taller Indian cashier with not-a-great attitude recommends Mysore masala and Paneer masala because they are least spicy, he claims. The dosas were different this time around. 1 had white cheesy-looking bits adhering to the dosa, 1 didn’t. The 3 sauces were the same as day 1. 1st soupy sauce was ladled from a large unrefridgerated pot. 2nd sauce was a thicker consistency but very hot n spicy. 3rd sauce is some sort of white coconut-like sauce reminding me of dog throw up. Was that offensive?! Lol. I have no idea what I should had been served– but at $ 6 each dish, no big deal. They have a drink called mango lassi, sort of like a mango smoothie. Its semi good. I don’t recommend their gulab jamun dessert. Try Rasoi restaurant’s, located across the street for that. Overall, they offer a tasty, interesting meal. I am willing try the different assortments at some point.

I was SO disappointed with this place. I understand having an extensive list of different dosas is awesome but at least make them all unique! I got the cheese palak dosa expecting a spinach filling and something delicious because I’ve had a delicious palak dosa before. Anyway what I got was a huge dosa with the standard potato filling with american cheese(at least use indian cheese) and here’s the palak part, a spinach chutney that was extremely lightly spread and dried on the dosa. I wanted to leave and go to dosa hut up the block. Everyone else in the table ordered different things but technically the same filling with very little variations. It all tastes the same! Even the sambar was salt-less. I’m sorry but I’m never coming back regardless of how large the dosas may be. 2 stars for having a long list of dosas and quick service. But they actually deserve 1.5.
