Sad they closed, but if you all remember, they closed once before and reopened again. I hear they have a poor relationship with the landlord there, so while they might repeat their reopening, for their sake I hope they find a new spot. I never came here for the hot food, but as a place to pick up some good polish meats they were great. Even just kielbasa, they had quite a few varieties and they tasted great. I’ve got a place uptown, but I miss having such a variety within walking distance, and I hope they do reopen.

I love polish food, so when I walked by this polish deli on the way back from my go-to local beer store, my stomach started growling. There was nobody at the counter, but a woman came out after a minute to serve me. She was friendly enough. The place was clean, with heated food in the front, a few coolers in the back and a large deli case running almost the whole store. I asked a few questions, bought 2 things, and was on my way very quickly. The fried meat pocket($ 2.50) I got for lunch was pretty good. The meat of choice was pork, and it was sliced, rolled and spiced with a fried shell around it. A little greasy, but good and enough for a small lunch. Really can’t beat the price anyway. I also want to pick up some pierogi, of which they have meat, sauerkraut & mushroom, and potato & cheese($ 7). I chose the middle option and walked home. Upon making the pierogi with butter and onions later that night, I found that the pierogi was actually potato and cheese. I’m deducting 1 star for this mistake, as there was no reason for them to screw up, especially when they aren’t busy; potato and cheese is also my least favorite kind of pierogi. The reason I’m only deducting 1 star is because the potato and cheese pierogi for among the best of their type I’ve had. The potato was the right consistency, and the cheese was sharp and salty without being overwhelming. They were also big, and 6 were enough for a sizable dinner. I would definitely recommend this place to other people, but just make sure you’re getting what you pay for. Given their location, I will inevitably give them another shot and revise my rating if applicable.

I give them 5 stars for saving my neck on several occassions when I needed to attend potlucks and didn’t feel like spending my day cooking! On those occassions, I just bought heaps of their deliciously buttery mushroom+sauerkraut and potato+cheese pierogis, along with some of the highly addictive potato pancakes knowing that my friends would be satisfied recipients of the delectableness! This spot is also handy for my Polish husband(or it esp. was in his pre-vegan life) and mom-in-law(when she visits). I also love that the family that runs this place are super friendly and serve you with a smile. Love!

A really nice small deli/grocery downtown. If I want a nicer quality of keilbasa or something than the supermarket carries, then this is the place to go. If you happen to be of Polish descent(I am not for many generations), then there’s plenty of food from the homeland as well — even Polish versions of Hellman’s mayo.

With only one other Polish deli downtown as their competition, yet without comparing Europa strictly against it, I am giving Europe nominally 4.5 Unilocal stars, yet reflected as four. More competition(Polish or not) and it would lose a star, but never the less here is the review. Europa went through a recognizable change with new management recently. While the store more or less acts the same, substantial changes were made. First, and foremost, it appears open now since the after-close security gate is fully up! A slight interior change kept the trademark hanging sausages intact, while providing space for larger-than-life Polish newspapers and a funny little pharmacy-like shelf with Polish bathroom essentials. If you’re from Eastern European descent, then this is really a coming home party. The prepared food is reminiscent of home cooked food– mouthwatering regardless where you’re from. It’s a fairly quick in and out deli for grabbing food after work. The sweets, condiments, sparkling water, juices and other packaged goods are there as well; though I always go for the cold cuts, prepared food and sweets. The old management used to have uncooked(that is, raw) sausage one day a week that was great for grilling. I’d like to see if the new management continues this(they probably do). The prepared sweets are great for bringing to dinner parties, especially if those guests are untanned Eastern Europeans, slightly unhappy. And where else can you get a six pack of 1.5 liter sparking water in Jersey City?

So I was in Jersey City looking for something to eat and saw the Unilocal reviews on Europa and stopped in. I had the stuffed cabbage which was excellent. I also had the potato dumplings that were topped with bacon pieces. Very good. Like the other reviewers said, looked like they had a nice selection of cold cuts, polish meats and products. I live near Wallington and Garfield so i have my share of Polish stores nearby but this is not a bad stop if your looking for a change of pace and in the Jersey City area.

This is a great place to stop by for me. The employees are warm and friendly. Since I am gluten free I cannot enjoy their cold cuts, but I buy them for my very appreciative boyfriend. However, I enjoy buying the prepared stuffed cabbage and the many varieties of kielbasa from them. I would never buy kielbasa from the grocery store after having theirs.

Great selection of wafer cookies and chocolate bars; and their homemade yeasted donuts are amazing! Don’t forget to stop in for one of the chocolate covered ones with the cream inside. OMG. That is all.

OKAY! I love this place. They recently reopened or so I believe. and let me tell you, this place is great. You walk in to a counter filled with fresh, hot prepared food and peek through the steamed filled glass and want to eat everything. Perogies, chicken cutlet, friend bass, stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, OH and they make lasagna, sweet flavorful sauce. They have these lil potato things with bacon on top, an array of sweets, and homemade meats hanging behind the counter. Also, other polish goods. The woman behind the counter is very friendly and the prices are very very reasonable. Dishes are placed in these large to go containers that make for easy eating or reheating. TRYIT!

I love this little place! The staff is so friendly and warm. Don’t be intimidated that it looks like something out of the 1950’s. Everything is fresh and delicious.

I *love* Europa. Their seriously delicious cold cuts, most of which go for slightly less per than you’d pay at your average nearby deli. And for that, you get their pepper ham, garlic ham(with embedded cloves), and OH the various rolled/pressed bacons. I haven’t ventured into their smoked/dried/hanging sausage yet, but it’s just a matter of time. However, you *must* try their beef jerky, if you’re a jerky fan. It’s just tender enough, just spicy enough, and absolutely addictive. I’ve never been disappointed with their prepared foods either(though I wish they’d have their big ass chicken cutlets available more often). They’ve also got a nice selection of imported polish foods for reasonable prices. I’m always a big fan of playing ethnic food roulette(find something in expensive that looks interesting and give it a try, the worst that happens is you wasted two or three dollars) and I’ve never lost here. There’s a strawberry tea with a grandma on the front that’s very tasty for the summer time. And don’t be intimidated by the fact that everything’s in polish/half the time the staff is talking to customers in polish. All of the counter folks I’ve ever encountered have spoken perfectly good English. Plus, most packaged food has a US required ingredients/nutrition label, and more than once I’ve bought a packet of mystery stuff and asked for a quick translation of the instructions on the back. Found some great salad dressing packs that way. Seriously, though, if you’re buying your pig based cold cuts anywhere else in the downtown JC area, you owe it to yourself to give Europa a try.

I have been meaning to go to Europa for some time, and am just sad that I didn’t get here sooner. Europa smokes their own sausages in house, and the smell is amazing. They have a large selection of Polish meats(smoked and otherwise), cheeses, pierogies, packaged goods and most importantly, homemade golumpki! I am not Polish, but I love any food that comes wrapped neatly in its own edible package. I have eaten a number of times at Sawa, and while I like their food and their golumpki(and want to be adopted and fattened up by the woman who owns it), Europa’s win hands down in my book. Not only are the golumpki tastier, but they sell them by weight… bargain golumpki! I am going to order by the dozen! Nothing at Europa is in English, so I asked the woman behind the counter to cut me a piece of her favorite sausage. My bill for 5 golumpki and a half pound of garlicky, awesome mystery sausage was about $ 10.00. The only downside is that they close early, and are closed Sundays, so this is turns into a Saturday only place, which as I think about it, might not be such a bad thing for my golumpki habit.
