This is a surprising find! Everything I’ve had here has been exceptionally fresh and delicious. I can’t say enough great things about the people who run the place, they are so friendly. It’s definitely worth the 15 – 20 min drive from New Orleans. I’ll be back for sure.

This is by far the best sushi place I have been to since here in LA. Amazing service great food. Looks a little awkward outside for sushi but once you walk through the door it is your oasis away!

Best Sushi in Greater New Orleans. The rolls are big and delicious and the sashimi melts in your mouth. I have been all over the city to find this quality on Jefferson Hwy. The best! Dare anyone to try this restaurant and attempt to challenge its Sushi.

Best sushi in town!!! I can still taste the deliciousness in my mouth, it was that good! It’s definitely out of my way, but that won’t stop me from coming back. When we arrive, we had to take a double look to see if we were at the right place(actually passed it up on the way there and had to make a u-turn). It’s next to the boost mobile building. Gravel parking lot. Inside was a little dark with Chinese pattern hanging from the ceiling. It’s one of those hole in the wall joints with the best food in town. We had the deep friend crunchy roll, rock n roll, and soft shell crab roll! All for $ 26!!! Can not beat that! There was also complimentary miso soup. The deep fried rolls came out with the perfect crunch to it. I can’t say a single bad thing about any of the rolls. Two of the rolls were 4 pieces each but they were big pieces! *warning* you may spend hours trying to figure out what sushi to get because the selection to choose from was never ending. As for the service, the staff were nice and wasn’t too overbearing! So ready to return back there.

This place has excellent everything! The decorations are quaint. The music sounds like final fantasy battle music(who wouldn’t love that). The sushi was the best I’ve had in or near the city. Also they have complimentary miso soup! As well as red bean, mango, and green tea mochi! Usually it’s hard to find a sushi restaurant that serves red bean mochi, so this is a big deal. Small place right off the highway, but it’s a hidden gem! Will definitely regular this spot.

This is a great spot for take-out(and dine-in) sushi. The staff is great, and the fish is always perfectly fresh. Especially the Salmon. Every time! I have purchased take out orders from here several times and it has been great every time. I fully recommend this place.

Great service and delicious sushi and appetizers! We always drove by this place and wanted to try it. I read the Unilocal reviews and saw photos which spurred our decision to finally try it. I loved the New Orleans Roll with Smoked Oysters and Louisiana Roll with Crawfish, Crab, Cooked Shrimp and Spicy Mayo. The Sunonomo Salad aka Cucumber/Pickled Salad with Black Sesame was full of flavor. Shrimp Shu Mai with Ponzu sauce snd green onion was our son’s favorite. It is a small sushi place with 8 tables across from Jefferson Feed. It reminds me of a typical neighborhood Sushi place in Los Angeles, our former hometown. The chef is quite generous with portions of fish. You won’t be disappointed!

This must be the most underrated sushi place in NOLA. You can tell that the chef is very well trained and has a lot of experience. We got several of the specialty rolls without rice and they were all beautifully assembled. We got 2 orders of sashimi and a squid salad as well. The sashimi’s portion size was really generous and it was precisely cut. Can’t wait to make this a regular spot on my routine.

This is about the only sushi joint in this area of Jeff Hwy and its ok for what it is. The rolls I ate didn’t stay together as well as I would’ve liked and they were a bit over soaked in some sauce for my taste. They have some decent specials and although the outside looks terrible the inside is acceptable but small. It isn’t going to tempt me away from Kanno anytime soon but if you’re in the area its a decent option.

Fresh cuts of fish makes for amazing sushi. Making this a weekly spot now. Very reasonable prices. The front looks awful, but the sushi is gorgeous. Yellowtail melts in your mouth. Relaxed, clean atmosphere for a very small place with only 9 tables + a short sushi bar. Service was great as well.

I wouldn’t call myself a veteran sushi-eater. I’ve only been enjoying sushi for a couple years now, but of all the places in the New Orleans area, this is far and away the best Sushi I’ve ever had. And the staff(seemed like a family) was so nice. The atmosphere was spa-like. You know that feeling you get when you’re super comfortable and the hair on the back of your neck stands on end? I had that most of the time we were there. A definite must-try for any local who enjoys sushi, veteran or novice.

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch this past weekend. It was a weird time, so we were the only ones in the place. The waitress was very attentive and asked us if we would rather miso or clear soup which was complimentary. We ordered a snow crab salad which was good. We also ordered a fried crunchy roll and a hot and crispy cajun roll to split. I wasn’t a huge fan of the fried crunchy roll due to the cream cheese(apparently I don’t like cream cheese in sushi rolls… Who knew?) but I liked the sauce on top of it. The hot and crispy, on the other hand, is probably my new favorite roll. The long, thin crispies and the sriracha really make it delicious. It was a little spicy for my boyfriend, so I ended up eating most of that roll. They also had many other delicious sounding/creative rolls on their menu that I would like to try in the future.

I have recently felt a divine calling to sample new sushi places around town instead of always hitting up the same olé places. My dining companion and I took a chance knowing this place was a hole in the wall sushi joint that was fairly new. I enjoyed the mellow and relaxing sounds of their spa music while I ate. There was only three people easily working the whole restaurant on a Friday night, that’s how small it is. It seemed like a lot of regulars came in and out to pick up their orders to go. After my ritualistic hot sake fix, we ordered a Salmon and Tuna Rice Paper Roll, a Red Hot Roll, and a Hot & Crispy Cajun Roll. Our food all came out EXTREMELYFAST. As in, we just put in our order and had only had maybe one or two sips of our hot sake before the food started hitting the table. First of all, I LOVE that this place has a whole section on their menu dedicated to rice paper rolls. Sometimes I want all the fish and veggies without the rice filling me up. So that was a plus for me. The Red Hot Roll was indeed red hot! I love a spicy kick and am always disappointed when something is claimed to be spicy on the menu but really isn’t. I certainly wasn’t complaining this time though! When they say it’s a spicy roll, it’s a hell of a spicy roll! My dining companion enjoyed this roll slightly more than I did only because I always feel awkward eating those giant rolls that can’t possibly fit in your mouth all at once. But the flavors and freshness were great nonetheless. The Hot & Crispy Roll was perhaps the most interesting because instead of the usual«crunchy» panko crumbs they use it make sushi crunchy, they used crispy slivers of fried potato instead! At first I was just curious when reading the description on the menu, so naturally I had to try it out. It was surprisingly delicious! Who knew that potato fries could compliment a sushi roll so well right?! Plus the panko crumbs eventually get soggy but the fried potato stays very crispy even up until the next day according to our few leftovers. The sushi chef, or perhaps the owner, was very friendly and was always smiling. He asked us if we enjoyed our food, which we did. I honestly have no complaints about this place. It doesn’t look like much on the outside but the quality and good service was all there. The location is a little bit out the way for me as far as convenience, but I would(and will) definitely come back here in the future.

I’m just going to go ahead and say, yes, to this new sushi joint. The staff was great(I got takeout) and the atmosphere is small but inviting. The menu has some basics and some more unusual items… bro4 wants to try the jellyfish salad but they were out last time he was there; that might be too adventurous for me. The tuna was great and I wish I had noticed that they have a pickled radish roll on the veggie roll menu. I love those. My crab naruto was a little heavy on the mayo for me but that might mean it’s perfect for you. I will definitely be back to dine in and try to drag the parents along.

Mr. Sake Don is a welcome replacement to the previous occupant, Mr. Joe Sepie. Mr. Sepie liked to serve food with bugs in it. Mr. Don serves sushi that is delicious… and bug free. On my first visit, I kept it simple with a hot and crunchy cajun roll, a philly roll, and some miso. The sushi ingredients seemed very fresh, and the rolls were well prepared. All in all, there was nothing for me to complain about, and the location is walking distance from my office! I can’t rwait to return and try some of the other intriguing offerings. BOTTOMLINE: Old Jefferson’s best sushi joint? I’d say yes.

Sake Don. About Sake Don Amazing place for Sushi. Huge portions, small price. I absolutely love this place for a quick bit for sushi lunch. The Chicken Katsu is light, not heavy and greasy. Give this place a try, I guarantee you’ll write a haiku or two.
