Our trip was not going well. Two delayed flights, cancelled trains, lots of walking. While we waited for a ride, we walked over to Maloney’s. It’s everything you want from a dive– friendly regulars, cheap drinks, slightly dilapidated décor, and a «mayor». If we’re ever in the area again, we’ll certainly stop here for cheap drinks and lively conversation!

MAN. THISPLACE. I had never heard of it, nor do I ever frequent this part of Queens — but I stumbled upon this place 2 days ago and have now been here two times, lol. I was in town because of Jury Duty at the Jamaica Center Civil Court on Sutphin and during my lunch hour I was craving a dark place where I could eat and be anti-social for a bit. To be honest this is the only bar I could find, but I didn’t feel at all like I was settling. My first visit here Neil was running the bar and he was sweet as pie. I asked if they sold food and he pulled out an impressive collection of menus and offered delivery. I went with a nearby Chinese place that he suggested that was a little farther away than the place 2 businesses over, but he said their food was better so I took his suggestion and was quite pleased. Their are no beers on tap here but they had a good selection of mainstream beers in bottles and cans. I went with Guinness in cans both times because… well…when in Ireland? Lolz. They also poured it correctly. Two thumbs up here. Speaking of Ireland, Maloney’s really is your quintessential Irish pub. On my second day here I got to meet the owner, Pat, as it was his shift at the bar. He’s a HUGE Yankees fan and he walked me through the various Yankees and Irish memorabilia that had been gifted to him over the years. They have a huge piece by the door that’s a black and white print of the 1951 Yankees and was actually a piece from the old Yankees Stadium. AWESOMEPANTS. But Mets, Giants and Rangers fans, there are also some fun things here for you guys as well — mostly pennants and baseball caps proudly displayed in the main bar area. But yeah, LET’S GOYANKEES!!! Even though I was feeling kind of despondent and anti-social both days, this is a bar filled with super friendly locals and regulars — as friendly as they were, they were also respectful. On my second day(yesterday!) 4 different people tried to buy me a drink. I kept saying I was good, but finally I relented when I saw that someone had a bottle of Cherry Coke being used to whip up Jack and Cokes. Ever had a Jack and Coke with Cherry Coke?! This wasn’t my first time(I’ve also done it with Dr. Pepper, not as great as with Cherry Coke, but not bad!) but it’s been awhile and it was on the house thanks to one of their regulars. I also met a court officer here who had been working in the courts for over 30 years. Also found it amusing that LOTS of the men here were drinking red wine. In an Irish Pub? Makes little sense to me, but whatever tickles your pickle I suppose. This is a no judgements bar and they serve beers in ice cold pint glasses. Solid. I enjoyed my time here and would totally return. Say hi to Neil and Pat for me should you decide to stop by!

I came here really late one night and apparently it was the wrong night and time. The bartender was more like a stand-in because maybe the real bartender called out? If you wanted a beer you were fine. Something hard on the rocks? Umm. Anything more complicated than that? Sorry. The roaches frolicking around the bar is what sent me to 1-star land though.

I make this a stop each and every time I travel to NYC from Kansas City. I stay out in Queens usually to save a few bucks on my hotel. One night just walking my dinner off I came across this wonderful establishment. Beers are cold, cocktails are stout and the conversation is lively! Even when I do stay in Manhattan for work I make a point of taking the F train on a 30 minute trip to enjoy the fine folks that frequent this classic. To my surprise the owner is a world class Yankee fan! Some great old photos and memorabilia. Thank the Gods! So If your ever in the area make a point of stopping and have a couple of cold ones.

Maloney’s is the dream for the city, state or federal workers that put in there 35+ plus hours each and other week. A true throwback to the past Ginmills after a hard day of labour!!! Expect your Rum & Coke to be ¾ & ¼ each and every time! Master Mixologist in Patty, Porkcut, Neil mix your drinks and solve your problems at the same time. This establishment is seasoned, the crowd is all familar with one another and social. You can smell the cornbeef and cabbage a day before and the day after St. Patrick’s Day. This place is one of the true histories of Sutphin Blvd. Expect your drink strong, reasonably priced and the conversations plentiful. Great place to just fit in.

Tuesday was St. Patrick’s day… when I was still working in the city I use to join the parade with my Irish friends. we would all dress up in something green… dress…bags.earrings…then go to the pub afterwards… have a good Irish meal of Cabbage, Potato and Corned Beef… and beer of course… Now I work in Queens… A block down next to the Supreme Court where my office is located is an Irish bar called Maloney’s. …I felt like having cabbage with corned beef so I walked in the pub and ordered a platter… It was full… everybody very loud and having fun… Almost everybody had something green on them. I myself had a green cashmere on… so I wasn’t out of place… when the lady handed me my order she didn’t take my money… Its on the house she said… so I went back to my office and finshed it all there. I guess cabbage, potato and corned beef is on the house on St. Patrick’s day… but you have to pay the booze…
