This place just keeps on getting better every time I go! I stopped in for a quick lunch, and wound up staying well into the evening. Lisa was not only a great bartender, but she’s also very quick witted and funny. They had live music that night by Gregg who was great. I got to talk and hang out and hear some great stories from Kathleen the owner. What a sweet woman.

Very cozy place. I enjoyed my sandwich however I did not like the French onion soup it was very bland and had way to much onions.

Ummmmmm… this place is awesome. Classic NYC bar. Was there on a Saturday afternoon before a concert at West Side Tennis Stadium and the place was rocking with an older crowd of every race and creed. Singing along to Frank Sinatra and dancing in their chairs.

Bad service. Bad prices. Bad food. There is no reason to come here since Austin street has much better options. Unless you’re a racist member of a biker gang, steer clear.

It’s not terrible and it’s not great. This is one of those so-so restaurants that typified the mediocre and undemanding Forest Hills food scene before younger, hippier entrepreneurs started invading the neighborhood and opening up craft beer and foodie-friendly places. As far as I’m concerned, Irish Cottage has to up its game if it’s going to compete with Banter Irish Bar & Kitchen or Station House. After going to Banter several times for a delicious meal with Irish music playing, I was so spoiled that it was hard to go back to this adequate, but not terribly special Irish place. I suspect it’s still here because FoHi old-timers have a soft spot for this place and it’s more dark and cozy than Banter, which is all windows and light. Unless it makes an effort to add new flavors to its not terribly imaginative menu, however, it may end up in the old FoHi eatery graveyard along with Just Like Mother’s, Bonfire Grill and Garcia’s.

We found this place that is in a corner off Austin, away from the bustling area. We chose it because it had decent prices. The interior décor was cute, it felt very homey, and it really felt like your were in Ireland. The food was standard Irish fare, with big portions. Although it was busy, service was very good and the food came out at reasonable times. Irish beef stew– standard potluck beef with vegetables. It was pretty good, I especially liked the Guiness gravy. Gaelic steak with mushroom sauce– It was pretty big for a 6oz sirloin. I ordered it medium rare and it was probably medium and too overdone and tough for my liking. I kept biting into the hard fatty pieces because the lighting was so dim and the gravy was covering all of the steak. The mashed potatoes tasted like it was instant. french onion soup– I wasn’t really impressed. It tasted like it was from a packet.

The Cottage(as all the locals have dubbed it) has been my go to bar since I started working in the area a few months ago. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day of work because you’ll be guaranteed a dimly, lit bar with charming, irish-accented bartenders and an ambience of amity induced by the locals who frequent the bar. Furthermore, should you choose to indulge on one of the many selections on their menu — you will be delighted by their well seasoned and appropriately sized portions for the price of the meal. There’s also a jukebox and it’s not uncommon for spontaneous sing alongs or mini jams to erupt on weekends. Additionally, happy hour is pretty amazing there with discounted drinks and a free sampling of food that could range from shepard’s pie to Mac and cheese! If you’re ever around Austin street, you should definitely head over to the Cottage!

Horrible. 1 star because the place is cute inside. The waitress seemed nice but it took an hour for them to get us food! ANHOUR! Might I add that it was completely dead in there. Also had to hound down the waitress for any sort of refills. We were there for brunch and the food was unbearable. How do you mess up eggs Benedict? I’ll tell you how… by putting american cheese on it instead of hollandaise sauce! When I pointed out they then scraped off the cheese and put on the sauce. DISGUSTING! Finally the eggs were overcooked. Eggs Benedict should be runny! Avoid this place. I should have known… no place off of Austin should be dead like that.

We’ve gotten off the Van Wyck, which is at a standstill, and wound up at the Irish Cottage in Forest Hills. We haven’t been here in 6 months and the waitresses we knew are not here. There are some new faces and they are harried tonight. It’s the beginning of the«Irish Marching and Boozing Season,» and everyone is getting into the spirit. It’s cold out and the place is buzzing! Our waiter has only been here for two months and he’s undergoing a baptism of fire, with sweat pouring from his brow. He immediately asks us what we’d like to drink and fetches the brew. The busboy, on cue, brings their delicious Irish Soda bread over and we devour it. We order the pork chops and the chicken pot pie and are not disappointed. I must say that the service is being tested but I don’t mind the wait. Finally the cavalry arrives with the gal behind the bar coming over to help the boys in the dinning room out. She brings us complementary glasses of the house cab with her apologies. So all’s forgiven. This is a typical Irish neighborhood bar/restaurant where you get a good dose of Irish hospitality and local color! Slante!

Was a cold and blustering night! Had to kill an hour while waiting for an appointment, so seeing an Irish bar, I figured why not?! Managed to get in through the the howl of the wind, and found myself surrounded by a warm and inviting bar area. Service was great, beer was tasty, and on top I got some free Shepherds pie at happy hour! Score! Take that winter!

I had a good time here one night. Perhaps too good because I walked out without paying, but they did have my credit card so I knew they’d charge me for the 26 drinks I chugged. After a couple of days I realized I didn’t have my card so I retraced my stumbled steps and called them to ask if my credit card was there and it was. I spoke to a woman. She said I could come in and pick up my card and to bring my ID. Well the next day I went to get my card and apologize for forgetting to pay, but when they looked for it it couldn’t be found. They took my number so the night staff could check their register. They called to say the card could not be found. Well it turns out someone took my card and went on a shopping spree. They went to 3 drug stores, a shoe store and a pizza place. Naturally I called my credit card company to cancel the card and advise them as to what happened. While it’s a bummer that this happened, the good news is I got my fraudulent purchases money returned and the thief got a bunch of free stuff so everyone made off like a bandit. Unfortunately I will not be returning to the Irish Cottage ever again. The moral of the story is: You’ve got a dishonest employee working there so now you know(Attn: Manager/Owner)

Anytime I ventured to The Cottage it was mainly for nightcap purposes. We didn’t want to go home, but we didn’t want to stay where we were, wherever that was. Almost always opting for the cramped far left corner of the right angled horseshoe shaped bar we would order up some pints of Guinness as The Cottage offers the best local pours. Initially I found the male bartender somewhat brash, but after spending more time and money from my corner seat the brashness subsided. No big surprise there. I’ve eaten a few bar food items off the menu and always enjoyed my meals. The burger is nothing to write home about, but hits on the key importances of bar food. Fast, filling, inexpensive. Oddly I enjoy The Cottage much more during the holiday season. The decorations and lights add such a nice cozyness, warmth and holiday feel that I recommend stopping in if your thanksgiving or Christmas shopping on or around Austin Street.

Great, no frills bar with friendly bartenders, reasonably priced drinks and a jukebox with an incredible music selection(which I promptly took over)…my kind of place. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Forest Hills.

Stopped by on a Friday night. It’s an older crowd, but we didn’t mind. We ordered some wings, sliders, and drinks. The wings were pretty good and the sliders were alright. Our server was very nice and attentive(never had an empty glass too long). Worth coming by for a low key night to enjoy some food and drinks.

Dinner was night was very enjoyable. The venue has friendly staff and interesting beer. Food: the typical American bar fare. I recommend their fries — so fresh and not too salty at all! Add some vinegar to experience Irish tastes. I had the Blue Cheese Burger, which was excellent. Jalapeño poppers and fried chicken were interesting. Everything seemed freshly made, albeit fried. Service: extremely responsive — there weren’t too many other patrons, likely due to the fact that it was a Monday evening. Décor: this venue has an interesting setup with two entrances, one for the bar, the other for the dining area. I was so confused at first!
