Best breakfast. Large selection of food choices and consistently good service. Dinner service is a great addition.

First and foremost, if you dont like this place there is something the matter with you! Great local spot. Everything on the menu looks great. If I lived here I would dine here as much as possible! I had bug mikes BLT and a cup of chili and it was great. if I wouldnt have had to go back to work I would have tried the pot pie or chicken and waffles. I will be here for breakfast tommorrow!

Great place to catch B’fast and lunch. Very good menu selections and Daily specials. The portions provided are huge and I end my order with asking the server to go ahead and just put half of it in a to-go container. My favorite is the biscuits and gravy. You should try their Yo Halla, Stuffed French Toast. The original is always on the menu and special versions can sometimes be found on the daily specials board. Watch the following video and get a better idea about this menu item.

After a night in Jacksonville of hard drinking, we just Unilocaled for some breakfast. I was initially drawn to the photos of the food and didn’t know what to expect. Location: There is a small parking lot next to it and available street parking. Would advise to not park across the street because its a 4 lane road. Interior: Once we got into the diner, it was a bustling array of people, chattering and busy work in the cooking line. We lucked out and was able to snag the best seats in the house, in my opinion, which was the diner bar. The interior was well designed and have kept the traditional style of a diner, not too fancy or hipsterish but just the right way. You can watch the line cooks scurrying around while you wait for your food. Food: amazing breakfast. They perfectly poached my eggs and the hash browns with everything in it was a first. Unique and delicious. Orange juice had a nice touch and was freshly squeezed. Service: the waitress was cordial and often checked on us to see if everything was to our satisfaction. Very nice. Overall, would definitely recommend this spot for breakfast!

The only place in Jax where you will wait for food, and be happy you did. Everything here is great. If you have relatives visiting, this is the place to bring them. Plan ahead.

I could eat here at least 3 times a week if my wallet permitted. * The staff is amazing — super friendly, professional, and courteous. * Lots of options from the menu and the food is great. * Parking can be tough, but you can usually find something Eat here for breakfast or lunch(i haven’t had dinner here yet) and you wont regret it.

I really want to like Metro Diner but after I was served disappointing meals and nearly threw up by the bathroom door the smell was so awful and I was completely shocked to see that the smell is in between all of the action where your food comes from in your drinks yuck. Then I wake up this morning I find out I’m charged twice for the terrible meal and ambiance. If you ate at the Metro Diner on Hendricks Avenue yesterday June 19th2016 you might want to check your credit card statement and transactions.

Honestly I was disappointed. I ordered the shrimp and grits first and the presentation was great and looked like it would be delicious. I took a bite of the grit cakes and didn’t find any real flavor to the dish. I liked at the shrimp and it had no seasoning on it. It’s like one of those places that have little to no seasoning to cater to a general palate. The grit cakes were supposed to be stiffed with cheese and andouille sausage but I got through half of it and didn’t find anything in there. The bacon pieces in the dish were the only thing that had any flavor as you can taste whatever they smoked it with. Well I didn’t write them off so soon. I ate half the shrimp and grits and ordered the chicken and waffles. The strawberry butter was great. There were actual pieces of strawberry in it and added a great flavor to the waffles. Then I took a bite of the chicken and went back to disappointment. Again there was a lack of any real flavor. It was cooked well, I just wouldn’t get it again. Not my type of place flavor wise. My palate is too grown for this place. Too many great places in Jacksonville from waafa and Mikes to the French pantry to Carmines.

Biscuits and gravy were fabulous, the portions are enormous, the staff is friendly, but the size of the place is just a little small. Even at less than full capacity in the diner itself, it’s noisy because everyone is packed in like sardines. That is the one and only reason for the 4 star. Just be sure and sit outside. Take nothing away from the food, it’s excellent and the value is outstanding. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner with so many favorites you won’t know what to order. Chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, burgers, burritos, Philly Cheese Steaks, club sandwiches, meat loaf, spaghetti, on and on. I give the food five stars, but overall a four star place just because it gets very noisy in the diner.

Checked out the Metro diner as I have read a lot of good things. Our portions were large. Food was average. Kids got silver dollar pancakes, one of the orders was clearly burnt. We also ordered biscuits and gravy and the gravy was ice cold. Fish sandwich was huge. The best thing we ordered was the pound cake french toast, really good. We will give it another go in the future.

We hit this spot based on the DDD visit and Unilocal reviews, it did not disappoint. The chicken and waffles was a amazing! Who would have thought to add hot sauce to syrup? The Yo Hala on the square was also very good, but be ready for a nap from the sugar coma. We visited on a Monday morning so no issues with lines. It is a small place so I am sure weekends can be crowded.

Today I tried the Yo Hala on the Square with the Blueberry Compote… It was good but the filling wasnt the greatest! I think I’ll try the pound cake french toast next time or the shrimp and grits!

The food is just flawless and amazing. If you want that good authentic Diner taste you are the right place. Everytning is perfectly seasoned and the staff very friendly. It’s not the biggest place as far as space but this is not a place for big corporate groups so who cares lol. There is nothing bad I can day about this place. They definitely earned there spot on the TV show«Diner Drive Ins and Dives» I will be back any time I am in Jacksonville area most definitely to try other things on the menu. Also if you get a chance ask for Barbara she is the sweetest waitress Ever

We hit this on a road trip and figured we’d cross another DDD off the list. We got the meatloaf(featured on DDD), turkey dinner, Greek salad with salmon, and the Vortex burger. The meatloaf had a good flavor, but the portion was really tiny. From what we had read the potions were huge, in reality they were pretty average. The mashed potatoes and gravy were pretty generic. I will say the vegetables were really good. The turkey dinner was really generic. Like you’d get at a cafeteria. Just nothing special about it. The salad featured wilted lettuce and the salmon was WAY overcooked. We ordered the vortex burger as an afterthought, and it was the best thing we had gotten. The burger itself was a little dry, and they forgot the slaw(although when it arrived, we regretted asking for it — wilted lettuce, bad taste), but the idea of a double grilled cheese bun with bacon was pure genius. Definitely the best thing we tried on the menu. I will say all the staff was very nice, and our server Emily was very quick, polite, and accommodating.

Oh my goodness. Everything clicks, from the gal opening the door, saying hello with a great big smile, to the immediate seat and greet from our waitress. Served our drinks within a couple of minutes, took our order, delivered our food within 6 minutes! Delightful start. Meatloaf, perfect, mashed potatoes, wow. Great gravy, squash, delish too. Turkey dinner likewise wonderful. Portions were huge. What a wonderful restaurant. Y’all need to get there!

I judge most Jacksonville restaurants with absolute disdain, but Metro Diner is the real deal. There are way too many items on the menu but in the good way. Everything I’ve tried is… mostly delicious. The French Dip is amazing! I took one star away because during my second visit, they over salted my steak and burned the toast. They fixed the steak but brought it out lukewarm… Then I ordered the croissant french toast to go which I never received. Bummer… It’s good enough that I’ll be back hoping for no more mishaps.

OMG, I AMSOGLADWEDON’T LIVE NEARMETRODINER!!! I would weigh 50 more pounds if we lived near this place. The food is inanely good — big portions of fat-laden and carb-laden deliciousness at fair prices. Good service. Very busy, tables squeezed in to a small space, loud, fun. Great place.

Be prepared for a lot of fat and sugar on everything. I ordered the pumpkin waffles and nearly passed out from sugar overdose. Everyone else seemed to like their meal and there was a wait. I guess if you like southern style food, you like Metro Diner. I’d rather not. Also there is only one bathroom so expect a line during brunch.

Oh. My. God. Incredible is all I can say! First off let’s start by addressing how packed this place was when we pulled up(usually a good sign). So we got our names on the wait sheet. The hostess quoted us for 30 – 35 min but in about 15 min they had some counter seats available so we took it. Walked in & the place was super packed & busy! It puts you in the mind of a Waffle House times 5! Sitting at the counter was exciting… we were able to see everything being made! Our server greeted us very promptly & we ordered immediately. We ordered the Monte Cristo, Huevos Rancheros, & a side of corned beef hash. Everything was ahhhhhh-amazing. My Monte Cristo was so crispy, warm, & cheesy with a dash of sweetness. I literally could not stop eating it. Some places usually have soggy Monte Cristos… Not here! Fresh & delicious. Now I’ve never had corned beef hash but I figured if I’my going to try it… it should be here. Once again another hit! MEATY, hearty, flavorful, & slightly crispy with the potatoes. Outstanding! MY date gave a thumbs up for the Rancheros. Overall, this is definitely a MUST if you’re ever in the area. Amazing food, fast service, & not too expensive. The epitome of a good a diner. I will definitely be back!

Oh Yes! This is the GOTO place for breakfast in Jax! So we were Unilocaling along, trying to find a breakfast place near where we were staying. I came across Metro and saw that this was«where the locals eat». OK! Let’s go! When we arrived we saw that this was a pretty small joint. Parking is not great, but if you can find a spot anywhere within a mile radius, take it! We walked in and were immediately greeted and shown to a small, two seater table. The menu had such a large variety of awesome looking breakfast items! I chose the Eggs Benedict w/hollandaise on the side and home fries. OHLORDPEOPLE! This plate was huge and cooked to perfection! The eggs were perfect. The home fries were pieces of crispy goodness. The service was spot on and the food came very quickly. They have a ton of servers ready to get that hot, tasty breakfast in front of hungry guests. The guy seated next to me was LOUD! With every bite he would exclaim how wonderful it was… I’ll have what he’s having ;-) Actually, he has the breakfast pizza, so you may want to give that a try ;-)
