Blue Anchor Pub

Closed for the last three months so how is it that Unilocal keeps this bar on its site?
And just because my notice was too short Unilocal required me add more verbiage like this. Let’s see if it’ll get posted now.

It’s been years since I was last at the Blue Anchor. That changed on Sunday when I stopped in with a friend for a beer. Pretty much the way I remembered it, perhaps a bit smokier than before. They’ve expanded since I was last there.
We found a spot at the far end of the bar, and were quickly served. A group was playing pool (free on certain days — Sunday, Tuesday, and… maybe Thursday?) Decent selection of bottled and draft beer. The peninsula end of the bar was full of a group of folk watching NASCAR on a couple of the boob tubes.
A notch or two above a dive bar, but it’s got that je né sais quoi that gives it a dive bar feel.

I love this little hole in the wall. You could certainly call this place somewhat of a dive, but that’s absolutely part of it’s charm. You can tell that most of it’s patrons are long time regulars, and not the sort that don’t make new people feel welcome. My friend recently moved just down the street from the Anchor and after our first visit we were very glad indeed to have found this little gem.
The Anchor is actualyl a pretty good size once you get inside which is nice when you don’t feel like being sardine canned in with everyone else trying to get a drink. The bar is quite large with plenty of seating for those that don’t prefer a table. There are probably 8 or 10 tables that could easily seat 6.
For entertainments sake you’ll find a few TVs that can be changed if you sweet talk the barkeep. In the back of the bar you’ll find two pool tables, albeit a little beat up though exactly what you’d expect in a place like that. There are also two electronic dart boards that are coin operated and the darts are kept behind the bar. All you have to do is ask.
The bar was well stocked, with a typical selection of draft beer and any drink mixers you’d likely want. Something to keep in mind is that smoking IS allowed inside this bar. So you sensitive non-​smoking types may not appreciate it when it gets busy. Most of the regulars were smokers.
Personally I look forward to many outings here, and plenty of stories I’ll probably regret later. Come check it out!
