Good seafood market/restaurant with great outdoor seating. The raw bar is a nice touch, along with cheap beer. They REALLY need to put in a bathroom besides a port-a-potty. Ain’t no place to take a dump.

Enjoyed some nice fresh seafood on a summer afternoon. Great steamed clams. Tasty fried oysters. Crab cakes were not outstanding but were good. Staff friendly and helpful. Worth a try!

Great place, very casual atmosphere… Hidden Gem of Islip. You can literally order fish that you see coming off local fishing boats that dock there in the morning… can’t get any fresher than that. Friendly staff, the chef is kind of ornery and people have related him to a specific Seinfeld episode(you’ll figure it out). Great place in the summer, awesome raw bar and dining on the dock, great place in the winter to grab some hearty soups on those exceptionally cold days. Highly recommend!

Bought some excellent fresh salmon and scallops from this spot for the green egg at our friends house. Pleasant service and great price for the quality and freshness of the fish. Only consideration is some of the fish is deboned and it can beat the fish up a bit, if the visual doesn’t bother you the, no issue!

We got to White Cap on Saturday night, July 18th, at 7:30. When we got out of the car we were told that they were closing because it wasn’t busy enough. My wife said that it was only 7:30 and it was Saturday night. They did not answer. While we were talking two other cars pulled in, only to be turned away. These people should stick to selling fish and leave the restaurant business to the professionals.

Very casual place and workers are very nice to customers(we)! Food is good! We ordered steam claims and twin lobster, feel very satisfied! Finish everything, even the fries are so crispy! Recommend to go there!

This is a ultra casual place — complete with paper plates, plastic utensils, and a seat yourself atmosphere on a canal in Islip. You can order from the raw bar(outside, for your RAW fish and drinks) or go inside for a very large assortment of all things you would find at a restaurant on the water — FISH!!! This is not the place you want to take a 1st date — This is a place that calls out your name and you have to flag down the server with your tray of food(sometimes after ordering like 45 minutes earlier!!) This place is comfy, casual and without the hassle or the prices of any mainstream seafood restaurant! I can’t think of any other place on this island that as raw oysters on the half shall so fresh and so cheap! KUDOS!!! Warning — the restrooms are port-a-pottys — Yes… Crazy I know, but HELLO — Fish Market on a canal! — the Saving Grace is a real sink very close to the restroom area(follow the signs!) Staff is super friendly and if you sit at the Raw Bar you will get the true experience of this family run place and feel just like family! Great for the family, — there is MORE than just fish on the menu! Come early on Friday or Saturday nights if you want a waterfront table — they go QUICKLY!!!

We LOVE White Cap. Nothing fancy. The mussels are amazing, oysters & Seafood chowder too! We love it in the summer time. Nothing beats sitting outside on the docks with a beer, the view of the water & raw bar. We definitely still visit over the winter months.

Fish is obviously frozen. Mine wasn’t even thawed. Chef is a real jerk. Yelling at employees and throwing things. He even dropped something on the floor then used it to cook.

White Cap has great seafood. Their lobster rolls are really good as are their clams. We ordered the oysters and they still had mud on the shells but were really fresh. It’s an order inside and they bring your food out to pick up and bring to your table by the water kind of place. The only problem I have with this place at all is that the tables are old and are always dirty. They are also sharp wood and I’ve pulled many a shirt on the tables. I think if the updated their tables and chairs it would be more comfortable.

This is my third time here. I come all the way from The Bronx & whenever I’m at Robert Moses I come here for some grub. The broiled scallops, new england clam chowder, crab cakes, & baked clams are all very good & so fresh. Good place for seafood.

What does a mermaid stuck on land do? She goes to this place. The raw bar is a mound of ice with clams, oysters, shrimp, lobster and beer which is the way this mermaid enjoys a Saturday afternoon. The staff totally took care of me and my clueless ways! One of the shucker kids let me try a clam, eh too briney for me! I had a dozen oysters straight up, no cocktail sauce and only a little lemon. Sweet, clean and fresh tasting. I took a live lobster with me to cook up tonight. They have a really nice fish market inside with crabs, fish, and all kinds of mollusks. I’ll have to come back for some cooked food since all I did was raw this time. Really enjoyed talking to some of the long island residents who sat down at the bar. I really enjoyed being out at the wharf taking in all the salty air. Great time!

Great service. Great service. Great service. I had a very trying day before coming in. The staff worked in a group of four to clean all of my blue crabs so they were easy to cook. They put lobsters and oysters on ice for the long drive home. I wished I live closer. The prices were very reasonable. Lobster tasted amazing, oysters were more sweet than briny, and the blue crabs were sweet and full of meat. Thank you guys.

On a Sunday drive down Merrick Road we passed the inoccous sign for White Cap Fish Co… and passed it… and then got curious, turned around and drove up this rickety dirt road along a canal to this barn like building on the water. We parked behind it in the lot and walked around to find people sitting along the dock eating seafood… On the outside of the bldg under an overhang was a table loaded with fresh clams and oysters on a pile of ice, expertly being opened and served by a couple of good shuckers. Inside you can order cooked stuff like a lobster dinner special, baked clams et. al. We tried some of those dishes but my suggestion is to stick with the fresh clams and oysters and along with a beer take in the sun on one of the tables along the water. We will be returning again to do just that!

We heard about this place last week on WABCTV Eyewitness News and decided to give it a try… basically something different and different it was. Great fresh seafood on the back deck of a hole in the wall fishmarket behind a steakhouse in the middle of nowhere on the water in Islip Long Island. If you go there not expecting white glove service with super fresh seafood you’re going to love it.

I so miss this place since moving out of New York. It was quaint and small and looks like a fishery/restaurant. You can buy fresh seafood and also get cooked food there. They cook the clams/mussels/fish right there in front of you and have a menu also. They sometime had soft shell crabs and can special order crawfish also. The guys are so nice and helpful. I do miss them.

The pros are that the portions are huge and there’s outdoor, waterfront«dining» on big informal barrels. However, the biggest con that trumps any kind of pro is that this is supposed to be a fresh fish market … and yet their seafood is not fresh. I had the fried oysters, which I was very excited about since they were supposedly cornmeal dusted, Southern-style. However, not only were the oysters dry and chewy and extremely briney, they were essentially deep fried cornmeal nuggets. I understand that oysters outside of the Gulf are a lot smaller, but there’s no need to quadruple the size with bland breading. My husband got the mussels marinara with linguine, and the mussels were also not fresh, to the point that he was sick afterward because he’d eaten a few bad ones. They were not fully opened, and some actually smelled rancid. And it takes a lot to fell my husband’s iron gullet. None of the sauces/dressings are made in-house, and the fish in the shop part was expensive and looked old and dry, or slimy. In other words, there was nothing about this place that was fresh, and that’s alarming for a dockside seafood place. Incredibly disappointing. Ugh.
