The prime rib is the best here only available Thursday-Sunday, the staff is very pleasant I usually sit at the bar on a Sunday with Matt tending bar and it is a good regular crowd.

Dinner and a show! My wife and I went here with another couple for restaurant week and what an experience it was. We arrived a little early for our reservation so we went to get drinks at the bar. The bar was packed so it took a moment to order, wine and beer. We also ordered chips and dip– they ended up being given to another group… We went to settle up and the bartender apologized and offered to have the chips sent to our table. We agreed and went to pay, half cash and the rest on the card. She decided to charge $ 40 to the card and give herself a $ 20 tip. This took about 15 minutes to sort out but she was very apologetic and came out to our table later on to apologize. Rough start but it was very busy. When we sat down to dinner it literally took 30 minutes to have the waitress take our order. We had to ask the busser to find her. When the food game it was good, 3 star worthy but we had the reverse problem here. We hadn’t finished our appetizers before the entrée came out. Most amazing of all, while we were eating dinner I see the valet trying to give my car to another group. I ran outside but luckily they informed him that it wasn’t their car. We wrapped up dinner and ordered dessert, the waitress didn’t even ask about coffee. The dessert was actually quite delicious. We left and I tried to point out that my car was right up front due to the earlier mix up but the Valet tried to pawn someone else’s car off on me. After pointing out my keys he was kind enough to give me my own keys and we hurried out. The food would have netted Captain Bill’s a solid 3 stars. The service warrants less stars than Unilocal allows us to give.

Captain Bills holds a special place in my heart as it was my grandmas favorite place. The food is always fresh here. I’ve been here for numerous of events including my graduation party and bridal shower. They do a wonderful job for catering in their private room. Staff is always pleasant. The view is gorgeous. Especially if you get to catch a sunset :) they have the best calamari ever as well as their Caesar salad. Freshest seafood around. they never let me dos !

We wanted a place to have lobster on the water and they gave us a window table with a view of the boats and some body of water on the south shore in Bay Shore. The tails we got were very good! The lobster bisque, although delicious, could have used some lobster in it. Overall, a good experience!

First time here and we really enjoyed it. My mom wanted to come here so we treated her for a belated birthday gift. First of all the location is beautiful, right on the water like many of the better seafood places up and down the island. And as I expected the food was very good. We had a bunch of stuff going on at the table, so much I can’t remember it all. Suffice to say we didn’t come across anything we didn’t like. Good food, strong drinks, beautiful location and very friendly service. From the valet staff, to the hostess to our server, everyone was really nice and attentive. It had been quite some time since I’ve hung out down this way, but after coming to Captain Bill’s I’ll definitely make it a point to come out here more often, and I’ll definitely be back. Very pleased!

My family and I really enjoyed this restaurant. We went early for dinner on a Sunday evening, we would have liked a table by the window but we were told they were all booked. Most of us ordered from the daily specials and all were excellent. The bread in the bread basket was also a nice addition. All in all, we were all very satisfied with our meals and will return again.

Horrible service! Hostess was so rude that we got up from our table and walked out! I called to speak to the manager and she did nothing to right how wrong our experience was. I am telling everyone I know… never eat here!

Food is at most mediocre. Waiters were attentive but I was unhappy that they gave us a second glass of wine without asking first. The only upside is the location. It’s by the pier so you have a nice view of the water while you eat.

I have been here for a few private parties and thought to myself, ehh this is a good place. BUT then I came for brunch and my like turned into a LOVE for Captain Bills. My friend and I came for Sunday brunch and I was blown away. This place is huge and every single table in the restaurant was filled. I’ll start out by discussing the atmosphere. It has a typical restaurant feel to it, tables nicely spread apar. The view is what sets this place apart from others. Captain Bills is right on the water with a fabulous view, if you are lucky to sit by the window. Great to walk out on the deck and enjoy the weather or snap a picture. My friend and I were given a table near the bar, which was convenient for us since we were able to have all the mimosas we wanted. We then got up and were able to partake in the best brunch buffet yet. They served everything from eggs, bacon and sausage to pasta salads, mini sandwiches and fish of all sorts. Buffets usually make me nervous because you never know how long the food is sitting out for and whos hands are in it, but when partaking in this brunch, those thoughts were not even on my mind. Any food you chose was fresh as could be. Waitors and waitresses were continuously carrying out fresh food to replace the empty platters or were serving the guests. Platters were all piping hot(if they were supposed to be) and delicious. Nothing you chose to eat was bad. This place is accommodating for large groups or if you’re looking to brunch with a friend. I highly recommend you try the brunch. Although it was a bit pricey for one person, the food and experience was well worth it!

It’s nice to look out the windows and look at the boats. I wasn’t impressed with the food. We were there for a party and the place was disorganized. The prime rib didn’t look good. The chicken piccata tested good but the chicken was tough. The place is also expensive.

The wait for food was horrible. We waited for bread for 45 mins. Waited for our appetizers and bread for 1.5 hrs and got our food within in 2. 5hours. Our pasta was over cooked and hard. The chicken fingers were burnt and hot, and it was off of the children’s menu for a toddler. The waiter nor manager was sympathetic about anything, I figured it had to do with either race or the fact that they don’t believe in customers being right. By the time the food came in we asked for boxes after they brought food they were completely unapologetic. The waiter said that they would take off one meal after all that wait. She then came to the table and said the manager could only offer a after dinner drink as if it would help the damage. We rejected the offer and they only deducted the 3 sodas we ordered. We never complained, we were never rude, we were never rowdy. Overall this restaurant is top tier horrible. If anything I’d say pretty racist.

Went with 8 other people for dinner on Friday. Very good dining experience. Good service, nice nautical atmosphere with windows looking out at the Bay. Food was very good, all of us had different kinds of fish and having all 9 dishes come out at the same time not over or undercooked is quite a feat. Not inexpensive but worth it.

Second night of a biz trip to the hospital in Bay Shore. Tried to go to Fat Fish on a recommendation but they were closed for the season. Went nearby to Capt Bills instead. For some reason we had to park our car with the valet which seemed pointless since there is an ample parking lot in the front. The restaurant is nicely appointed in a nautical theme and is quite large. The 4 of us were sat at a nice table on the window overlooking the pier and bay, which was lovely. Service was OK, not terribly warm or friendly, but adequate. I had the blackened shrimp taco appetizer which was excellent though a bit pricey at $ 10.00 for 2. Dinner was broiled scallops which were ample but a bit mushy– lacked the firm flaky texture of a scrumptiously broiled deep sea scallop — perhaps it was the March season. Dessert was a crème brûlée which we all shared. Overall it was a very nice dinner helped by the atmosphere and business colleagues. The grouper was reported to be excellent. Entres are on the pricey side and our dinner for 4 with some glasses of wine came to over $ 200 before too. Points off for mushy scallops, high prices, unfriendly but OK service, and pointless parking.

I can’t understand the poor reviews on the food here. My husband and I were married here on 10÷12÷14 and had our cocktail hour in the harbor rooms and our reception in the Bayview House. First off, Donna the catering manager is amazing. She was so helpful and sweet throughout the whole process. Staff is top notch. Our wedding had THEBESTFOOD. That’s it. We have heard nothing but rave reviews from our 235 guests. I think that The Bayview House is a straight up hidden gem! We were able to pay cash throughout the year and get this… we could pay up until a week before the wedding. What?! It was just easy breezy. We will forever love love love Captain Bills for the beautiful wedding they gave us. Also, we took our pictures right on the docks and they came out beautiful! If you’re looking for a wedding hall that will not be some wedding factory experience, one that will in fact be just you and so beyond beautiful and affordable head on down. Support local businesses in the best way possible!

Pros: Big portions of food and prepared well. Parking, décor. Cons: Service, cost more than value of food.

Participant in LI’s restaurant week!(27.99 for 3 course prix fixe meal) Definitely a good value being that most entrees(a la carte) are $ 20 – 30 Arrived at our reservation time an were seated immediately. There were only 2 of us and we were seated in a small 2 person booth(not a fan of this seating arrangement). Overall, the service was friendly but slow. I continually had to ask for a refill on our waters as the glasses were small and filled mostly with water. When I finished my glass of wine, the waiter simply took my glass but did not ask if I would like another. I thought this was odd… There are pictures for all course Course one: appetizer –Baked clams: I am a huge fan of baked clams when done right… unfortunately these were mostly mushy pile of bread with small pieces of clams :( –Calamari: In general I am NOT a huge fan of calamari however this was prepared almost perfectly with a delectable coating! Even better, they were only the circular pieces, no tentacles! Course two: Entrée –Mahi Mahi: Loved that the waiter asked how I wanted it(rare, medium… etc). I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly! It was served with a ginger and a wasabi sauce and was yummy! –Broiled Seafood Combo: contained shrimp, flounder and scallops. I did not have this but the person who did said it was average. It looked good though. Course three: Dessert –Apple crisp –Pound cake with ice cream Both were typical, average fair Though overall it was OK I am not sure I would visit here for seafood given the price. Would probably visit one of my other seafood joints(Popei’s or Pier 44).

This place is decent. Food is ok. The atmosphere, location and views are what keeps this place afloat. Waterfront, seafood dining is not rare on Long Island. This restaurant would benefit from a bit of a menu-makeover to breathe some new life into the dining experience. The wait staff are attentive and eager to make your visit enjoyable.

Aye aye Captain Bill, I am a die hard fan of yours. You’ve been so good to me over these past few years, so I had to let you know. You’ve feed me so well I can never say I’ve had a bad meal… ever! Your wait and bar staff treat me as a family member and that’s what I feel like when I visit you. Your freshest quality fish, legendary lobster bisque, and that decadent homemade cucumber dill dressing will keep me coming back forever. Not to mention you have one of the best dining room views of the Great South Bay than any other! Your Sunday brunch is, as always, epic. Don’t ever change mate!
