A beautiful hidden treasure of a winery awaits you at Tanis. Andrew the winemaker is very personable and is very passionate about his wines. You won’t find anything sweet here, not even his muscat canelli or port. The muscat was surprsingly dry, yet very fruity. Started our flight with a verdelho, very crisp and refreshing. All of his reds were great; bought his red blend and a barbera. And of all things, I also got a dozen eggs from his son’s chickens. At $ 3.50, they were a bargain!

Don’t miss this winery! It’s tucked back off of. Hwy 16 a couple miles, but it’s definitely worth the stop. Andrew is very personable and a terrific wine maker!

Tanis is a very unique wine experience. Andrew and his family started their winery in their garage with a cramped tasting bar squeezed in front of all the aging barrels. Over the years, the tasting room has taken over with lots of room while keeping the same intimate wine experience. Most of the grapes are grown off-site at various vineyards in Amador County. Tanis buys their product and creates the wine. There are no wide expanses of vineyards off the tasting room deck, and the place is definitely off the beaten path. Most Amador wineries are in the Shenandoah Valley, but Tanis is almost near Ione off Willow Creek Road. This means Tanis is usually much less crowded and more fun! Like most wineries, the focus is on reds, but Tanis also makes some great whites. His style is different than most California wineries. The wine is softer and fruiter than most and very food friendly. It is nice to have a glass without the massive tannins and alcohol found in a lot of wines. It also means the wine has to be good because you do not cover up the taste. I highly recommend visiting Tanis. The experience is so different than most wineries. Make sure to ask about the wedding ring. You cannot find his wine anywhere else, so bring a large wine bag to stock up!

I would rate Tanis 10 stars if I could. Seriously, every wine here is amazing! My husband and I joined the wine club last year after we realized we couldn’t live without this place. We had almost joined the wine club at several other Amador wineries but something was always holding us back; the fear of receiving a wine that we might not like. With Andrew and Tanis Vineyards, that fear has completely vanished because there is no such thing as a Tanis wine that you will not like. Period. Andrew and his wife are also the most friendly people that you will meet. Yeah, this winery is off the beaten path a bit, but it is well worth it. Stop in and try it out, you’ll be glad you did.

Wonderful! This place was a perfect experience. Mr. Awesome/Andrew was full of humor and knowledge as he poured us our wine. The wine was exceptional: especially the Sangiovese and Barbara. There were snacks: meat, cheese, crackers and home made meatballs yumm. Plus olive oil tasting. Kind of out of the way, but a 110% worth the stop. Has it all: a homey tasting room, pleasant pourer, food and delicious wines. Go if you can.

We have 5 or so wine club memberships in the Shenandoah Valley. Tanis is one of our very favorites and I can’t express enough how well worth it is to drive off the beaten path a few minutes and visit Andrew for a tasting. cheers!

This is my new favorite Amador winery! Andrew and Jill really have outstanding winemaking skills. It’s obvious they have a passion for what they do and their attention to detail is unmatched. I’ve been twice to the tasting room now. I had their Tempranillo the first time and it is one of the best I have ever tasted. On my recent visit I tried the recently bottled Sangiovese and the Syrah and both were incredible. All of their wines are excellent, but Andrew always has one or two wines that are so amazing you won’t believe it. I joined the wine club this time and can’t wait to go back to pick up my first installment. Keep up the good work Andrew and Jill!

Andrew Tanis was very engaging and sweet. Had a great time and bought pumpkin carmel candy that was great coupled with a bottle of wine for my friends birthday. I will go back.

Sampling at several other vineyards, I thought my taste buds must’ve been off. Thin and acidic seemed to be the mantra of the day. Then we tried Tanis’ Syrah and found what we expected: full-bodied & jammy. We had a bottle with our steak dinner that night and our first impressions were re-affirmed. Gotta go back and pick up a few more bottles to take home with us! 4⁄27 Update: went back for a second visit and picked up some more wine. They were even better than we remembered.

AMAZING!!! This winery is off the main road, but well worth the trip. The owner is great to talk to and passionate about what he does. The wine is excellent! Bought way too much wine and will continue to do so in the future. Love this place, a must see if you like wine. P. s. you must try the truffles too!

Off the beaten path, but still part of the Amador collective wineries, Tanis is a small and family run. This family puts everything into their wines, including the meaning of the rings on their label… You will have to visit for the story, sorry no spoilers here. The tasting room is in the barrel room, and the barrel room is the garage of their home, so you get the picture. They make a range of whites and reds. All consistently good. The tasting is by Andrew, the winemaker himself. He is such a cool and friendly guy. These are the types of places you root for and support!

Storytime w/some vino… Andrew, the owner(husband & wife duo) is as passionate as they come. From the moment we walked into his small tasting room, he was already pouring our 8 glasses for tastings. He greeted us all with a warm smile and great demeanor. This guy has stories for days. A story about the label. A marriage proposal. A lost wedding ring. Poison Oak. Teaching his son about responsibility at 8 years old. All of which were heartwarming and gave this smaller winery a hint of family and local flavor. I am by no means a wine connoisseur. Especially when I am participating in a limo party, wine tasting adventure. Maybe like wine, as I age I will mature ;) But for now, I’m pretty easy to please when it comes to wine… all the varietals. The one thing that I absolutely love is his label. The gold foil. The Hope-Love-Faith in Italian. The poison oak to grapevines, it all comes full circle with Andrews lovely stories and rise to Amador wine maker. The TNT is also a pretty cool version of their logo — one wine, 10 varietals… tasty :) The sincere happiness of Andrew and his wife make this smaller, away from the main group of wineries, that much more special. Now, no proposal will ever be as good as the one you told us about…

This is an amazing winery!!! We went there on the recommendation of Convergence Winery a couple years ago and were so VERY pleased. Andrew ROCKS with his varietals; his barbera is so scrumptious, we cannot keep enough in the house. The petite sirah and sangiovese make us want to weep for joy. He has other varietals and each is more exquisite than the last. He just keeps growing as a winemaker. My husband made the mistake of going to the restroom on my birthday and a very delighted birthday girl ordered a case of deliciousness. As soon as we heard they had started a wine club, we jumped and are member #27. We now head over to hi to Andrew on our birthdays, March and Nov. and pick up our wine club wines. Ahhh, bliss!

the 1st of 3 stops on my friends’ durrrty 30th bday Amador wine tasting trip. like others have said, Andrew is so welcoming, genuinely nice, and will gladly explain his wines and anything else you’d like to know. ask him about their wine bottle label– such a great story. i’m hooked on the Primitivo– almost a port but not quite. i mentioned i shy away from Reds due to tannins and sulfites, and he explained his filtration– most of both are removed in the process. guess what… i didn’t get a headache after! he also has several olive oils in varying flavors from garlic & herb to habanero, several yum candies and chocolates made specially for them, and other wine novelties. don’t miss out on Tanis!

One of my favorite wineries in Amador county! I love the tempranillo and the barbera! This is a small winery and every single time I visit(3 times now) I feel so relaxed! Andrew, the winemaker, is fantastic! Not only is he friendly, but he makes some damn good wine! This place is not on the main drag, but it is definitely worth taking the time to visit. My family turned me on to this place and I am so thankful they did. There’s nothing like a great glass of wine.

Tanis wines are seriously good. After several weekends driving around and tasting Amador wines, I’ve found that Tanis is one of the of the very best in Amador county. And not just the Zins! They grow several varieties and every wine my wife & I tasted was delicious. The tastings are free(as they should be!), Andrew the vintner is friendly and excited about his wine, and they have a nice little tasting room with snacks. The wine is a bit pricey, but worth it. It was so good I joined the wine club on the spot and walked out with a case.
