Steak ‘n Shake

Worst drive through ever. Took 28 minutes to get 1 shake. Guess this is their definition of fast food. Avoid! Rude and ghetto drive through lady made things worse.

Passing through town for a conference and had never tried a Steak n Shake before but had always heard good things. Decided to stop by for a late night milkshake. I’m a big fan of Thrifty Birthday Cake ice cream so I couldn’t pass up an opportunity for a Birthday Cake milkshake. And man it definitely didn’t disappoint! Will probably end up coming back to try a few other flavors soon. Only gets 3 stars because the wait in the drive thru line was unreasonably long for just my car and the car in front of me. I’m not sure if the service was that slow or if the car in front of me ordered the whole menu but judging by the previous comments, I’m betting it has something to do with the service.

I love the food but this is the last straw. I work nights so at 4 am im hungry. Well i arrive and stand for 5 minutes waiting. A woman seats me at the bar. Ask for my order immediately. I order and a drink. No drink until i get my food which they bagged to go. I wanted to eat in. The staff was rude, not paying attention, arguing with each other, cursing, blaring music and listening to head phones. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had at any restaurant. I’ll never eat at Steak N Shake again.

I was craving to try this place every since my first work trip to the mid-​west 5 years ago, and finally got a chance. I visited at about midnight on a week night, and I admit the cashier was less than pleased to see me walk into the place in the middle of the night asking for take-​out. In any case, she took my order and the food came out fairly quickly. The Royale burger and shake were freshly made.
In terms of the food quality: the fries aren’t terrible, but nothing to write home about. Good part is that there isn’t a lot of salt on them like other fast food joints. The nutella shake was mediocre. Not much nutella flavour and the shake base is boring. The only saving grace was the burger. Fried egg on a double cheeseburger with tomato and lettuce. Tasty burger and was just the right size to satisfy a late night craving. Would I come here again? Probably not after trying it once. Time to move on to a higher quality fast food restaurant.

What has happened Steak N Shake? First please train your servers better. Second keep management accountable. When we walked in I could see they were just finishing taking an order for a large table. Taking this into account. It took 6 minutes before a server greeted us. Once we got our server we ordered. My Coke had lemon seeds in it. I did not have any lemons. The glass was dirty on the inside. We received our burger and fries both lukewarm and not our cottage cheese which is typically served first. I think our server was really trying but she may not have been trained very well. The male server had his ink pen in his mouth. Very unsanitary. He leaned over booths from behind instead of walking around to his customers. He sat at a booth and had a conversation with some young ladies while the one other server was running around. A third server did come in with her child in tow. She sat him at a small booth with a cell phone and crayons while she took orders from guest. Maybe her babysitter bailed last minute. I did witness the manager clean a few tables, mop under a table and help serve the food to the large table. When we went up front to pay the credit card machines had to-​go bags over them. It will be a very long time before we visit another SnS again. When we do it will not be this one. In years past this location had a great server named John. Since then it is hit and miss. Tonight was a huge strike out. I will be happy if I don’t get sick tonight from what ever else may have been on my glass of Coke.

I have to admit that I’m not much of a fast food guy. When I do indulge I would have to say that Steak and Shake is my indulgence of choice.
It takes some seriously bad service for me to ever give a one star review. I try to find the silver lining in just about anything.
This little adventure starts and ends at the drive-​thru. I pulled up and there was silence. Okay. I’ll just wait a minute or two. A couple of cars now waiting behind me. I look back at them with the old «I don’t know what’s going on either» look. After about five minutes I’m finally able to place my order and the cars behind me had already pulled away.
I inquired when I got to the window and the young lady informed me that she was rather busy. No problem I say. And I so I pay.
You’d think they would expedite these orders. I’m first in line with a line of cars again growing behind me and have now been waiting here for close to 20 minutes. Hmm, wondering if I should park and go inside.
Soooo, I climbed out of my car window, opened the drive thru window and queried the rather surprised staff as to the whereabouts of my burger and fries. Afterall, I’d paid 20 minutes earlier and my typically eternal patience had reached the end of eternity. The young lady who told me how busy she was indeed was busy — standing in the corner texting which is I suppose is some form of «busy». The guy at the grill said he’d just gotten there. The crew had obviously forgotten the building had a drive-​thru. As I shimmied back down into my vehicle I looked back to see the passengers in the car behind me supplying an ovation of clapping and thumbs up. Okay, I might have looked a little odd hanging inside of a drive thru window but I got some answers and a few minutes later I had my burger and fries.
No idea how this particular restaurant falls so far below the standards of other Steak and Shake locations. I hate to ever give one star but the gang here definitely earned it.

As much as I love the food, the kitchen can’t seem to follow special orders. The managers and servers have never offered any apologies or refunds. There are never enough servers and it takes 3x longer to get your food inside than in the drive through. Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere else.

Waitress was friendly, but not helpful. We ordered sodas that came out flat (no carbonation), we told her and sent them back. She returned with four more sodas just as flat. As a waitress, wouldn’t you check that the drinks were good BEFORE serving us the second time? We told her again they were flat, she said she didn’t know what to do other than bring us water. She did come later and say they wouldn’t charge us for them. Really? ! Why would you charge us for flat drinks? You didn’t do us a favor, we weren’t supposed to pay for those. The manager never came to apologize or explain the drink issue.

I visited this location around 2:30am. I must say this is by far the best experience I ever had with steak and shake. From the moment I walked in I felt welcomed. I was greeted by the most friendliest, uplifting employees. I then, sat at a booth and placed my order. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. My food came out rather quickly and HOT ! Overall, I definitely recommend this location! Taylor C… You were amazing !!

This place is disgustingly dirty. Filthy. Dirtiest restaurant is very ever been to. Will MOTORCYCLE be back. Service was really slow too.

First time for me. I do enjoyed the veggie melt and the chocolate fudge milkshake. My experience today changed my perception on this place and their food.

Came in to grab some carry out. Ordered two hamburgers, fries, and one shake. 25 minutes later, I’m still sitting here waiting for my order. I was not offered anything for my inconvenience, not even an apology. Are you kidding me? I will never be back.

My friend and I came to eat here tonight and only pray that we will get out of here. We are currently still at the establishment (after 2 hours) waiting on our shakes that our server initially told us we wouldn’t be able to get. She lied and told us that their shake machine was down. The people that work here are EXTREMELY lazy and the manager didn’t even bother to check on us. Wouldn’t suggest anyone come here.

Price & deliciousness is difficult to beat! I love the cheese fries! The milkshakes are pretty good too. The only small gripe is how long the drive thru takes to get your order done — but perhaps this is the price you pay for getting freshly cooked hamburger meats.

Went through the drive-​thru on Sunday afternoon. None of the condiments we requested were on the burgers (after repeating our order twice). The burgers were good but some mayo and catsup would have made them better. Fries were great (as usual).

These place has the slowest drive thru. And should win a award for the coldest food and messing up the order. Way to go steak and shake way to raise that bar.

When the husband and I feel like kids, we’ll go around the corner to the Steak N’ Shake for some cheap eats and one of those milkshakes that are about 2,000 calories. Oh, but that’s not all! We will indulge in the new $ 4 menu with 20 different combos including a variety of steak burgers, footlong beef dogs, and chicken entrees. If we have trouble deciding what we want, we will just get two combos each — hey, it’s $ 4. Then Rob tries to push the milkshake on me — his drug of choice — and I usually cave. Strawberry for him, banana for me. The servers are always patient, quick, and courteous, considering they are sadly so short-​handed.
Being open 24/​7, this place also makes my list of favorite post-​party, late-​night meal deals. Breakfast from midnight to 11 am, as well as a late-​nighters menu from midnight to 6am. Some coffee, chili mac, and fries to bring me back to life after a night out in Naptown!

The drive thru at this place is a joke. You are better off sampling the other fast food restaurants in the area. The quality of the food here is not good either.

Went to this location, waited in line in drive thru for 30 minutes. 5 cars pulled out of drive thru behind me because the line was not moving AT ALL. The car in front of me (that had already ordered) pulls out of the line, allowing me to pull up to the machine and I hear the drive thru woman on the other end say «just a minute» — needless to say I left and she’s lucky I didn’t give her a piece of my mind!

After a late hockey game, I decided to stop in as I really wanted a shake. However, my girlfriend and I sat there for half an hour after being seated by the manager and nobody waited on us. The staff kept looking at us, but nobody bothered to help us. The family that came in after us, seated next to us, got helped then their waitress looked as us then walked away. So did we. Lame.
