This is a wonderful up and coming restaurant. It’s nice to see this business grow. The food is very good and very fresh. I really enjoy the tacos, but the burritos also look amazing. The side of beans was very delicious but I didn’t find much flavor in the guacamole. My friends enjoyed it so it might be that I just enjoy bolder flavors than others. Overall, I need to eat here more and so should you!

Delicious street tacos!!! Affordable and tasty. Mainly carry out, one small table. I’d go back in nice weather, order tacos and sopes and have a picnic(bringing my own margaritas). Guac and Pico were homemade. Park in rear and walk around front. Hard to see from the street — same strip as hydroponics store.

Excellent authentic Mexican food in Indy. Friendly staff and an affordable menu. I ordered a taco combo and drink and took them up on their free chips and guacamole for checking in on Unilocal.Everything was outstanding. The portions were plentiful, the guacamole was very good, a little chunky just like I like it, but didn’t seem processed and had fantastic flavor. The Verde and Salsa were both awesome. Finally the staff was friendly and the service was excellent. Yes it’s a bit of a hole in the wall and parking is in the rear or on the side, it’s also kind of hard to see from the road but it’s worth it. Owner should consider a Neon sign, it took me driving by twice to find it.

To put it simply, the most delicious Mexican food in Indianapolis. Its a carry out sort of spot(although they do have a table inside) so if you don’t mind eating elsewhere then you can’t miss this place. Fresh, made to order and absolutely delicious.

I’m never happier than when I find a hidden culinary gem. La Mexi-Gringa is definitely one. I had the Pork Tacos. Ingredients were very fresh, flavors were authentic and delicious, and the food was piping hot! Even the presentation of the food in my take-out box was impressive. If they sold iced tea, they’d have gotten 5 stars all day. Do yourself a favor and bookmark this site in Unilocal and stop in next time you are in the neighborhood. That goes double on $ 2 Taco Tuesdays.

This tiny powerhouse in Irvington has a simple, minimalistic menu, but everything was good, and although we were one of very few people dining in – there’s only two tables after all — it’s quick takeout. Still, I was a little surprised at the hype around the place. There are plenty of places to get Mexican street food as take out on the east and west side of the city, most Mexican-owned and most cheaper without losing quality. On its own terms, though, La Mexi-Gringa is a good addition. The chips are the super-fried fresh type. Some people hate that kind, but I’m not one of those people. The salsas and guac are solid as well, and it’s a good starter. But the core food is really where La Mexi-Gringa shines. We ordered a tamale, and sope, and a naked burrito, all of which were rich, flavorful, and vibrant. Everything tasted somehow just a little bit crisper and fresher than many other similar meals I’d had. I’m looking forward to seeing some remixing in the menu. More and more places are serving tamales and sopes in town, now, and often for a lot cheaper. But either way, La Mexi-Gringa certainly does fine.

My La Mexi-Gringa YAY’s: –The chicken taco, which is cooked just right and very flavorful, and its onion, radish, and cilantro accompaniments — add a squeeze of lime and try it with cucumber too! –You can purchase various sides at 4 oz., 8 oz., and 16 oz. –The Unilocal check-in offer of free chips and salsa with an order over $ 8 — who doesn’t love a good deal? –The $ 10 combos, which seem to be the best deal on the menu board –The $ 2 Taco Tuesday special aka a GREAT motivator for lunchtime takeout –La Mexi-Gringa is partnered up with GrubHub, so you can have your meal delivered. My La Mexi-Gringa NAY’s: –Why does 4 oz. of pico de gallo cost more than a taco? It’s left me perplexed since I first read it. –The level of salt with the bean dishes — I’ve eaten both refried and pot beans, and salt seems to be the most prominent ingredient, especially when eaten alone. I would recommend cutting the saltiness by pairing the beans with beans or pico de gallo. As you can see, the YAY’s outweigh the NAY’s, so I say the celebrants of Taco Tuesday should give La Mexi-Gringa a try!

This California transplant was looking forward to digging into tacos(on Taco Tuesday) from a hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint. Unfortunately, I failed to call ahead to confirm that they were open. A friendly construction worker hiding his jug of whiskey in the back of his truck was quick to offer alternative dining options. He also caught us up on the neighborhood news… apparently the cook’s wife recently had a baby, so La MexiGringa closed early. While I didn’t get a chance to eat there, my adventure was enough to give it another shot after confirming their hours of course!

I have no idea whether or not the food is good. That’s because, after driving more than a half hour out of my way to get tacos, I found that the restaurant was closed 40 minutes prior to their closing time. I won’t be wasting my time to try again.

For Indiana Mexican food, La Mexi-Gringa is fine. They include iceberg lettuce and sour cream in their burritos, which seems to be the default way to prepare a burrito here, as I’ve yet to encounter a Mexican restaurant in Indiana that does not include lettuce and sour cream in their burritos, unless you specifically ask for a burrito without those things.(And if you do ask for a burrito without those things, be prepared for strange looks and confused expressions.) What I’m saying is that the pork burrito I ordered tasted fine, but it was not unlike the other burritos I’ve eaten at other Mexican restaurants in the area. Also, you should know that the pork is NOT carnitas — it’s chunks of pork. I also ordered a taquito, and was puzzled when I pulled a fried triangular taco out of my takeout bag. No, they didn’t get my order wrong, it’s just that La Mexi-Gringa’s interpretation of a taquito is a corn tortilla stuffed with meat, folded over and fried shut. You’re probably thinking, «How is that not a taquito?» Well, all the right components are there(tortilla, meat, grease), but a taquito in the traditional sense is cylindrical — rolled into a tube shape. So if you’re expecting to get a taquito-taquito, you will be disappointed and/or confused. That being said, the taquito was very tasty and went well with guacamole. By the way, if you check in on Unilocal, you get free guacamole and chips! I tried to order a tamale, but they didn’t have any when I visited. Apparently the cook only makes them when she feels like it. I’m not editorializing — that’s what the woman behind the counter told me. So maybe call ahead if you want tamales to be sure they have some. Oh, and the restaurant is tiiiiiny. I went with three other people, thinking that we’d eat inside the restaurant, but there’s literally only two tables and four chairs inside. So we had to get our order to go.

Literally the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Here’s the story. I was in Greenwood visiting my friend who had recently fallen out of a window and we decided to drink and play Monopoly. After a night of drinking and sleeping on the couch, I woke up with the world’s worst hangover. I scurried back to my house in Irvington, hoping to sleep the rest of the hangover away. I tried to drink tea, watch The Last Unicorn, and play with my dogs but nothing would make this hangover go away. Suddenly, an angel appeared as I was scrolling my Facebook page, proclaiming that«Tacos are $ 2 at La Mexi-Gringa». I now had a tough choice to make. Do I go buy some veggies from the store or do I travel to get some $ 2 tacos? My choice was obvious. I went there and the angel-woman behind the counter took my order and the god-man in the kitchen made the food. I got back home and turned back on the Last Unicorn and took my first bite. It was like I was being transported to another dimension where everything was beautiful and amazing and there was no war or famine or diseases. The guacamole was so good that all avocados aspire to be in La Mexi-Gringa’s guacamole when they grow up. After the best meal of my life(which I will ask for when they ask me what I want my last meal to be), I was hangover-free and happier than I’ve ever been before in my life. Friends, if you want the best meal of your life, I strongly suggest you go to La Mexi-Gringa’s. You can thank me later.

This place is WAY quirkier than it’s given credit for. There are only two small tables if you want to dine in, so plan for takeout. There’s a good chance you’ll drive right by it as the sign is in the window and not above the storefront. So look for the much more colorful and eye-catching«Maximum Grow» organic grocery store right next door. Also don’t expect that all menu items will be in stock. The food is made authentically and it sounds like the cook works with what she has and what’s in demand. There were no taquitos or tamales when I was there, for example. All that out of the way, the food was gorgeous to look at. A great presentation with zesty, fresh limes and proper Mexican tacos. These are not your lettuce, cheese, and tomato American tacos. They’re all about the cilantro and onion. They were flavorful and the hot sauce had a nice slow burn to it. The tortillas were a little short of perfect and the chicken could have been fresher, but both were still tasty. I think it’s worth a try if you’re interested in finding some true Mexican tacos presented with a hint of flair. I probably wouldn’t make this a regular stop for my taco-loving self, but I wouldn’t turn down an invite to go again either.

Authentic tasting tacos. I recommend ordering ahead since they make it fresh, or else you’ll be waiting for 15 while they cook. Only bad item is that the tortillas get soggy after a while.

La Mexi-Gringa is one of my favorite quick dinner places in Indianapolis. I’ve tried: Tacos(steak, chicken and pork, all three are served a little differently. Steak and chicken are my go tos) Sope(I’d never had a sope before La Mexi-Gringa. It was okay, but I wouldn’t order it again) Burrito(This was kind of just a mess. The ingredients weren’t well distributed) Guacamole(which is great) and chips(they’re fine) Their tacos are really where it’s at. If you check in on Unilocal you get free chips and a dip with a purchase over $ 8. Their food is available on Grub Hub for delivery. The space isn’t particularly nice, so this is definitely a take out restaurant. They have parking around back. I have to stress that their tacos are really really good.

My friend and I ate here on 1÷16÷2015. We both ordered 4 tacos, 1 each of chicken, beef, chorizo, and pork. All of them were fantastic, but I think the pork was the best. Certainly not what I was expecting when ordering a pork taco, and that was a pleasant surprise. They come with all kinds of great toppings, and there are also what appear to be a combo of house made sauces. The staff seemed friendly and appreciative of our business. There isn’t much of a dining area, so I’d recommend carry out. I look forward to returning.

Some of my friends shared a La Mexi-Gringa post on Facebook this week, so I was inspired to go check it out after work. They are in a small strip off East Washington though(not far at all off 465), so it was easy enough to find(added bonus is a small parking lot behind the building). It was busy– they were only 3 employees strong for all the walk-in and phone orders, and each meal is made to order. Note – there isn’t a ton of space to wait & only two tables to dine-in, so if a seated, served experience is what you are looking for, this doesn’t really fit the bill. It was totally worth the 25-minute wait though. I went on Taco Tuesday so it was probably busier because of that too. I ordered the taco dinner, splitting between the chicken and carne asade. Those were some of the best tacos I’ve had ever. They add a cucumber/radish garnish that really elevates the dish. The added lime and toppings on the tacos are a home run. Their food is well-seasoned and flavorful– exceptional. It’s really the little things that are the intangibles and make La Mexi-Gringa one of my favorite new restaurants.

Love the tacos! I had one of each meat(chicken, chorizo and carne asada). The guacamole and chips are really tasty too. I really enjoy having such a fresh and authentic Mexican restaurant here on the east side. Unfortunately, I was not able to try their tamales that everyone raves over because the restaurant lost their tamale girl and the owner is currently training a new employee for that position. The owner also said they will not be having tamales for about 2 weeks, that is as of today(1÷7÷16). But this is just giving me something to look forward to for my next time, there in 2 weeks :)

The near East side, and Irvington specifically is populated with amazing places for Mexican food and La Mexi-Gringa is no exception! The staff is very friendly, and the shop, while small, is a fun place to grab food. I had the chicken and marinated pork tacos, both were fantastic, onions and cilantro with two great salsas, a smoky red and fresh green. The taquitos and tamales look amazing and I cannot wait to make a return visit to try them out.

La Mexi-Gringa was introduced to me by another small local business, which is the ultimate compliment. I’ve had the Taquitos as well as my most recent tasty adventure — tamales. If you’re looking for something easy for dinner — swing by and pick dinner up here. It’s delicious food — fast… But most definitely not fast food. The fresh WHOLEFOOD ingredients are some of the yummiest I’ve had. This is not your typical«Mexican» food. This place is legitimate Authentic Mexican Food. The taquitos were amazing. They’re fried, but light. I didn’t feel like sludge after I ate them. The flavors were poppin’ and the guacamole… HOLY guacamole. I haven’t had any so good in Indy… anywhere. This was my first time eating tamales. I know Rita(the owner) is incredibly particular about making sure whomever cooks these is doing so in the authentic manner. Tamales were just reintroduced to the menu last week and are offered on Fridays and Saturdays every week. I tried the chicken and the pork. Typically I’ll choose pork, but in this case — I actually preferred the chicken. I really can’t say anything bad about the place at all. I will say that you shouldn’t seek this place out for a sit down meal as their store only has seating for … I think 4 people. This is definitely more of a carry-out place. They will bring your call ahead order out to your car curbside if you call it in. They also do some really great deals for parties(catering) with about a week notice.
