Excellent food(and drinks) at very reasonable prices in a great old building. Everybody in our party of four was very pleased. Service was knowledgeable and friendly, though it was a bit slow as the small kitchen seemed a bit overwhelmed. Food was well worth the wait. Limited choices for vegetarians. Will definitely come back next time I am in Independence.

My favorite place to eat and/or grab a drink. Everything I have had here has been amazing. The duck confit sandwich is my favorite, although they run out of it towards the end of the week. Always ask about the specials. Last time I was there they had lamb chops and they were the bomb. The roasted bone marrow appetizer is also a must-have. It’s jelly, melty, creamy and the flavor is amazing. Whisky cake for dessert! They have a few beers on tap and their specialty is gin cocktails. I have never liked gin, but I have tried several drinks here and loved them. Service is always excellent and I love the old building they are in.

I had the filet minion chicken fried steak and it was great. Melt in your mouth. It came with Yukon gold potatoes and eggs. I am not sure how they cook them but they were whole potatoes that were slightly smashed to flatten them slightly. Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Every thing was very good. It’s in an old bank and you can actually sit and dine in the old vault. They have a full bar and the service is great. My wife had the crème brulle French toast. It was also very good. They also make their own Cherry Chipotle Catchup that is excellent. We bought a bottle for home. Very nice experience and great food. We will be back.

Had the duck confit and bacon sandwich, which was very tasty. Nicely balanced and indulgent flavors without being heavy or greasy. Very nice staff and fun vibe.

It was different than what I expected. Pricier also but the food was tasty. Was it tasty enough that I feel like I am missing out if I don’t go back? Not really. Maybe I should give it one more try before giving my final verdict.

We had a wonderful Saturday lunch at the Three Legged Dog. Very nice atmosphere, not too much kitschy stuff, doesn’t try too hard. The food was everything I hoped it would be, quality ingredients and really nice house made touches. We had the duck confit and bacon sandwich, and the short rib sandwich. We were offered a cherry chipotle catsup that was quite nice. The red cabbage slaw was the best I’d ever had. We are seriously going back to try everything on their menu. The owner is quite personable and pleasant, and it was a pleasure to patronize his business. I didn’t try the beer but the offerings looked promising and the bar stock looked quite thorough. You should go.

So there we were tooling down the Willamette Valley back roads to an evening Oregon Football Game and we stumbled on The Three Legged Dog in downtown Independence, OR and found a great place with ownership that really cares about great food and a fantastic experience! Well worth the stop off I-5 to make your way here! Highly recommended.

Nice Friday night with the wife in this small, historic town. The atmosphere was good, and I loved the two-man kitchen. Order-to-mouth time was a little long, but was well worth the wait. Drinks were above average as well. Prices seemed appropriate; you get what you pay for… We ordered the Braised Short Rib Sandwich… I would definitely recommend. Overall we enjoyed this experience and will for sure come back again!

I really enjoy the concept here. They source the bread from the bakery across the street. All the ingredients they use in the kitchen are locally sourced and listed on the back wall. Most of the beer taps are closely local. It’s really refreshing. The atmosphere is inviting, clean, and not cluttered. I feel like this is a place where people who have known each other for a long time and like minded people would congregate. The customers tend to talk to each other here even if they don’t know each other. The menu, while not huge, is very thoughtful and it’s one of the things I like about this place. Restaurants with sprawling menus tend to put out less than memorable food. About the food. I’ve only had a couple of things, but both were divine and I will keep coming back. I had a sandwich special… it was a chicken sandwich on incredible bread with mushrooms and a raspberry dijon. I was leery of the fruity mustard concoction, especially with mushrooms, but I threw caution to the wind and ordered it anyway. I was not disappointed. It was probably one of the most memorable sandwiches I’ve ever had. Today, I was in a rush, but starving. So I grabbed the special soup, which was a sausage and sauerkraut cream soup. I hate sauerkraut. Again, I threw caution to wind and got it anyway. Once again, I was not disappointed. For the first time in my life, I liked the kraut. Go figure! While I shoveled soup in my face, I watched them pull this giant brisket out of the oven. It was gorgeous in all it’s browned juicy glory. I drooled. I was told it’s for the corned beef hash at Sunday brunch(omg!) and for the reubens. And don’t forget to try the house ketchup. I wanted to steal the bottle. But that would be tacky. I refrained. But it definitely crossed my mind. Josh and John are doing awesome things over there!

I had the reuben sandwich, and it was a little underwhelming for a $ 13 sandwich. It tasted good, but was real skimpy on the Sauerkraut, and the corned beef was chopped vs. Sliced, like perhaps it had come from a can. Seriously? The Pirate Stout was good, but the sandwich was disappointing.

This is an odd rural mashup of the gastropub nature. This place could probably cut it in Portland where the competition is fierce for such things, but it is fair to say it dominates in Independence and Polk County. In fact, in Marion and Polk County, it is likely in my top 5, maybe top 3. They have beer of course, but the magic is in the crafted and crafty cocktails. The menu is brief, but has a few items of note to let you know that the kitchen really cares and wants to give you room. Do not expect white linens and formal staff. Do expect the comforts of a pub with a few additions to give this rural pub a metropolitan edge.

STILL Love. This. Place. Went last night and again it was a bacchanalia of eating and drinking. For a table of three we had three appis: grilled asparagus, fried okra, and fries… yes, because we had to get some of that Cherry Chipotle Ketchup in our faces ASSOONASPOSSIBLE. I pulled my favorite trick on the poor waiter… in response to a request for drink orders, I said, «Something raspberry. Seriously. Just tell the bartender to have a go.» This NEVER fails to introduce me to something new, and yummy. Sometimes I also like to order, «Whatever the bartender just made… make it again,» or, «Tell the bartender to make me what HE wants to drink,» or, «Bartender’s choice, please.» Entrees were a special of wild board sausage with deep fried gnocchi with an herbed cream sauce. Luckily the person who got the last one was eager to share some of her entrée for half of my andouille sausage sandwich. Yum! The food was flying out, the tables and bar were packed at peak(on a Wednesday night? Good for them!) Everything was perfect, really. Love the location, love the staff. Can’t wait to go throw money at them again so they in turn can send me away stuffed and smiling.

Short version: Great food, great staff, and great spirits. Long version: We came here on opening night(New Year’s Eve) with a group of friends. As a group we ordered just about one of every item on the menu. Between the homemade sauces, fresh local ingredients, and unique recipes everything was exceptional. Be sure to try the homemade chipotle ketchup if you get fries. The drinks were equally good. They specialize in local spirits, fresh juices, and homemade mixers. Finally, the staff is great. Even though it was an insanely busy night they took time to stop in frequently to check on us. We’ll be back soon.
