Very surprised with 4.5 stars on here. With being mixed of this culture. It tasted like normal food from the halal carts in Queens. The food was also either too salty or way too much masala mixed in. The taste was overwhelming. I guess I was expecting«home cooked food».(Like if I was back home). The service and décor/theme was very nice.

Random Tuesday, and didn’t want to cook. Had the shwarma sandwich. Had lettuce and tomatoes inside the thin pita like wrap. It was fresh and good — not sure if it was $ 14 good, though. I guess maybe because it came with fries? I could do without the fries — it’s an Afghani place; why are there french fries?! There was a white sauce that came with it — that was excellent.

Food is okay but definitely not worth the price. It’s way overpriced! If prices were lowered I would return again but for the quality of food you get its just not worth it.

I love checking out places like this. Very very happy with my meal — Bomia Challaw. It’s tender chunks of beef cooked with okra, onions, tomatoes and spices served with white rice. I had to get it because okra was the bane of my existence working on the farm and I had to show it «what’s up». Well, it was fantastic. I suspect it was all in the preparation and the spices. I could imagine making an okra dish I might not enjoy. But this was great. Highly recommended.

I have to say that this place has food that is full of flavor, contrary to a bunch of the reviews on here. The green sauce is addicting, the schawarma was spot on(which is not an easy task) and the lamb kebab #2 was perfectly cooked. We went with a large party(12) and they were very accommodating. Everyone in our party left with the plates wiped clean. The servings were generous aside from the fries that came with the schawarma dinner.

They don’t even deserve a star the lady who owned it was afghan and very rude she decided to curse me and my husband out under her breath the entire time not knowing we spoke the same language as her. The food was below average at best, but as mentioned before beware because her service sucked. She even accused my husband of giving her a stolen certificate when that’s not possible. I will never again come to this place or ever recommend this place to anyone. My first and last time there. BEWARE!!! I cannot believe a that an owner of a resturant would do such a thing. She said things like this about us, who were respectful customers that fortunately knew the language amd who knew what she says about us. Who knows whata she says aboit other customers and others in general who don’t know the language and what she is really saying. …I’m shocked and disgusted. she made continuous derogatory remarks and we ignored every one of them. I truly can’t believe this is the standard of their resturant… to think I took my husband out for his birthday none the less, just to hear the owner cursing him and degrading him thinking we did not know the langiage… not only am I disgusted buy I assure u that this resturant have lost not only my business, but my entire family as well as anyone we know as wells business. If u want below average food and be talked and cursed about in another language than go here… if u have any class and care wat is said about u(not even to ur face, but with a smile an in another lamguage) than this is the place for u. I do not reccomend this resturant to a stray cat let alone any human being… I’d hope the owner reads this and knows that sometimes when she’s cursing someone out in another language, the person might know what she is saying and that she is not saying good bye, but cursing u out with a smile on her face in another language. DONOTGOHERE.

I’ve recently started coming to this place more often due to the locality of it being really close to home. The appetizers and tea are what keep bringing me back. The aush soup is delicious combined with the sambosa/bulani and the kaymagh chai(the pink tea) — perfect for a fall/winter day. The entrees are ok, not great, I’ve definitely had better. Recently tried their firni(dessert) and it was horrible to say the least, had it once before and it was pretty good-maybe an off night? Ambiance and service are great, no complaints there. Definitely recommend trying it out, it has some good and some bad but the good seems to triumph the bad on most days!

Décor was nice, servers were friendly and helpful. I got kabobs, shared with a friend. She got lamb chunks smothered in the rice with carrots and raisins. The lamb dish was definitely superior, next time I won’t be such a chicken and will order something more adventurous. No room for dessert but we did have a chai tea with pistachio crumbles on top. It was outstanding!!!

How many people can say one of their favorite places to have a special dinner is the local neighborhood Afghani restaurant? This local gem, easy to miss in an unassuming shopping strip, is in walking distance of my parents’ house, and has been around for decades, and yet never fails surprise! I was home in NY for a long, post-birthday weekend, and chose to come here for something dependably different/GOOD, and we were NOT disappointed! Seven of us walked in on a Saturday night(made reservations, which turned out to be a good idea) and were quickly seated in a comfortable window seat. We ordered a sampling of appetizers to get started; don’t miss the veg. samosas, baba ganoush, tomato sauce covered veggie dumplings… heck, try them ALL, but be sure to save room for an AMAZING entrée as well! I had a perfectly cooked combo chicken/steak kebab platter, mom had a salmon kebab, and my sister-in-law enjoyed an eggplant stew. All meals include a wonderfully seasoned rice(mmmmmmmmmm cardamom!!) topped with carrots and raisins(they will leave them off if you prefer) and warm, fresh pita bread. I’d also recommend an AMAZING Chai tea, one of the best I’ve had ever! We were all stuffed, but there are also several tempting, authentic desserts to try as well. Go early, go hungry, and if you’re even the slightest bit hesitant, DON’T be, because there is truly something here for everyone!

Great Afghani food. Many options for carnivores and vegetarians alike. Try some of their side dishes such as the cauliflower which is really delicious. The décor could use an update. It is a nice family run restaurant. At times the service leaves something to be desired but overall a great place. Careful on busy nights it can be tough to get a table.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. It’s been owned by the same family for numerous years. At first, a friend had to drag me here because I really didn’t know what to expect. Now, I wish this place was closer to my house because if I had the option to eat here everyday, I would. The best thing I can say is try everything. I’ve had the chicken, beef, and steak and I have a tough time choosing what to get because it’s all great. The sambosa e goushti(forgive my spelling) appetizer is the best. I can’t find the willpower to share it. The basmati rice is always delicious. If you get a meat dish, I highly recommend asking for some of their homemade salad dressing to pair it with. I know it seems odd, but it was actually a recommendation by one of the owners and it’s a requirement of mine now. The pricing here ranges from $ 15-$ 20/dish. If you’re skeptical(which some of my friends were), give it a try. You have no idea what you are missing.

Went on a very un-busy night… we were the only diners, but it was late for dinner around 8. Nice enough décor, great waitress. She literally new every dish on the menu by their number… there’s freakin over 50… anyways back to the dinner… Ordered babagnoush app… average at best… kebabs meat and chicken again three stars… rice with raisins… now where getting somewhere…4 stars on the rice… I think I might be jaded eating a Sufiya’s Grill couple of weeks before… they executed the kebabs and their cherry rice to higher plateau… Sum it up… average food, average ambience… above average waitress…

I’m not sure what the hype is about, but I will give you my opinion. The waitress was so friendly and nice and the food came out quickly. The appetizers were pretty good, we had the baba ghanoush and Sambosas. I did not care for the dressing on the salad at all. It was very bland. We had the combination of Murgh and Barg Kebobs which were marinated chicken and beef. The chicken was good, not great, and the beef was not very good. We also had the Masala Murgh which was chicken in a yogurt tomato sauce. Honestly the sauce tasted like it came from a jar! The rice with the carrots and raisins was very good. I love the honey carrots. All in all I was expecting to be blown away w spices and flavor but sadly, I was not!

Stopped in for some takeout and at first I was let down by the food at Kabul… which i think is a direct result of the reviews on here. With 5-stars across the board the expectation is to be blown away. I wasn’t. That being said, my food wassss really good, just in a different way. I rocked the kabob platter(chicken and steak mixed) and the meat was just ‘eh’. Really big chunks beef, not too tender, not too moist… pretty average. The saving grace was the sauces they serve with the meal. I’m clueless as to what they are, but they are a world of fun to dip things in. The rice served with the meal was the real star of the show. Lots of spices combined with raisons and carrots… so flavorful. Salad came with dinner and it was standard, but served with a nice dressing(which I dipped things in later) :) Overall, if you don’t come in expecting a 10-star experience, you’ll do just fine here. Can’t wait to go back to dine in house and to try more of their menu. Protip: Stay away from the iced tea. It is poor. ** Note: I got this food to-go, so that might have effected the meat and/or presentation

This place is a hidden gem. Tucked away in a strip mall on Jericho Turnpike, it’s easy to miss it. I’ve been here on many occasions and always found the food to be fantastic. I’ve never been disappointed with any dish I’ve had, but my favorite are the kebobs. The spices on them and the rice that it comes with are different and really good. I highly recommend saving a little room for dessert. Their baklava paired with their chai tea is heavenly.
