I love Jon’s…The waitress and cooks are fabulous!!! The only reason I’m giving 4 stars because the place needs a huge upgrade. It has a 70s look with old dining furniture. They have the best Huevos Rancheros. I go to Jon’s to get my weekly dose of the breakfast. It’s so yummy with the hard shell and homemade rancheros sauce. They also have the best homemade soup. You must try them all. Love you guys!!!

I wanted to like this place because it’s so close to home, and I tried to let a lot of things go, but I couldn’t get passed the pork chops that were horrible. I came here for breakfast, one morning, and ordered the pork chops and eggs breakfast. It wasn’t on the menu so I was happy that they were cool enough to make it anyway. The pricing was good too so everything started out great. Nice, polite service, quaint little restaurant. But you know, sometimes I wish I wasn’t a half Peruvian, who can pass for white, and is fluent in Spanish. While I was waiting for my food, the cooks were very vocal about sexual innuendos between themselves and the female waitress. It was triggered by the word«queso» which in Mexican slang, translates to a woman’s hoo-haw( ). I’m all for tasteless humor when I’m hanging out with my friends but when you’re in front of customers, I think it’s inappropriate. So much for professionalism, I guess. I figured that my breakfast would be worth the wait but man, when I bit into that pork chop, it was so gross that I thought there had to be something wrong with it. I tried to get through it but couldn’t, and since I ate most of it, I didn’t try to demand anything from the restaurant. The manager assured me that the meat was fresh and that it came pre-marinated so maybe I wasn’t partial to the marinade. I told him that he might’ve been right but that I just didn’t want to get sick(I didn’t). The manager tried to offer me a meal credit but I refused it, telling him that my intention was to inform him and not to get anything for free. I also didn’t mention the banter between the cooks and the waitress because I didn’t wanna get anybody in trouble, mostly because I knew that I wasn’t going to be returning.

Jon’s is a good old fashioned Coffee Shop, the kind you’d find in the sixties. The food is fresh and all made on site. The service is great. One of the waitresses has worked there for 30 years! They’re not fancy, but fresh and fun, and very family friendly. Breakfast is the best. It’s a great place to start your day.

Great standard fair, stick to the basics and you can’t go wrong. They open at 6am, so it’s a great spot to stop before or after dawn patrol.

Another mismanaged place… I seem to keep finding them. Wife ordered online and paid via there own website. Got there and was told, «we just saw the order we are going to start on it now». Ok no problem. Then I get this explanation that the system is not tied in to the registers to they have to periodically check. Ok, I sense some frustration there, still not an issue for me. I notice the line is starting to get deep(at least 6 tables) of people trying to pay. Waitress seem flustered. People were getting Annoyed. Since it was my first visit, and I had some time to look around I can’t help but feel like I am in a run down place. The place is sort of a dump, but just maybe the food is amazing, who knows. Then, I get the food(30 min later) and was asked to pay again. I told them I already paid via credit card online and they claim they don’t take online payments. So they forced me To pay again. I paid reluctantly and told them it was my tip since I will never visit this place again. The guy at the register said«is there a problem with the order». Are you serious? After all that the guy had no clue. So, I get home and viola… yep I have a payment confirmation email from there own website! I guess I will need to cancel the charge with the bank. Finally, the food was not good. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was filled cheese, not crispy at all, and overall just not good. Kind of a soggy tortilla with cheese. Wife’s salad was half eaten so assuming she had the same feeling. The place reminds me of the dinner from Shameless, yet more of a dump.

Very average place. The only reason people«love» it is because they grew up eating the overpriced and underwhelming food. Way, way too pricey for what it is. Starting to look a little dumpy too.

Used to love this place but it’s not as good as it used to be. Wifi is unreliable. Steak overcooked. Eggs from powdered, I think. Potatoes mushy. French toast still tops, though. Service is inconsistent — had a couple really good ones, but two of the older regular servers(both female) are just unpleasant. They no longer are open for dinner — close at 3 pm due to lack of business. Probably won’t be back.

This was my first visit so didn’t have a pro/con bias about the restaurant’s past. I had ham steak and eggs. Both diner quality. Average. The rye bread toast was divine. Jon’s potatoes were good. I asked for them well done and enjoyed them I agree on the pricey side. Two breakfast meals and a side of waffle topped With bananas and ice cream. No Coffees. $ 35. The restaurant was clean as was the bathroom. Very nautical décor as other Unilocalers have mentioned. It was a weekday at 10 am and it was us and two other tables. Our waitress was friendly. I’m attaching a photo of an over-the-top priced breakfast. I thought they had a typo but nope it really is $ 90! For $ 90 I expect entertainment. Wow.

Diner with a nautical theme anyone? This place is unique in that there is a mermaid on the wall as well as a bunch of 18th century model ships of old. Pretty cool actually, I’m into it. So I had their corned beef hash with home style potatoes and a couple eggs over easy. Side of wheat toast(2 slices) and some iced tea. The corned beef was okay. Not very flavorful and kinda mushy, I know it’s supposed to be soft but this really had no texture and no real corned beef smokiness at all. Disappointing. The eggs — good size, perfectly over easy. No complaints. The home style potatoes — pretty good, made with onions and peppers. I just didn’t like that they left a pool of grease on my plate. Not very appetizing. Overall this place is okay, food’s decent, the service was friendly and prompt and I got out of there for about $ 13 and some change.

Tried this place yesterday morning. Initial sight of the ambience had me excited. Looks like it is straight out of Pulp Fiction… Or Laughlin. Lots of older clientele. You can imagine cigarettes being smoked while people eat their eggs and sip their coffee. That said, the food was average, if not underwhelming. I ordered the Ortega Omelette: The downfall was what appeared to be Kraft singles that didn’t quite melt and had very strong artificial flavor. My husband ordered the Huevos Rancheros– he ate it all but said it was served on chips not a tortilla and was just average. Pricing was not cheap like I would’ve expected. $ 50, 2 adults &2 kids. The drinks were all $ 2.50+. We were down at the beach and this place was on the way home but I wouldn’t make a special trip to dine here again.

We are such big fans! I have been eating there since I was a kid and now I enjoy bringing my family there, too. I love their breakfasts! I also have used it often for breakfast interviews for work!

Get«The Grinder» if you’re a first-timer at Jon’s, and you want to eat. Decent-sized portion with a sirloin on parmesan toast with a side of mashed potatoes and a lettuce/tomato garnish for under $ 15. I had a late coffee meeting with a friend of mine at Starbucks, so I didn’t have time for breakfast that morning — Jon’s Coffee Shop made my lunch«break.» It’s a good thing the portion was decent, so I could have a chance to walk home(or to Trader Joe’s) for 20-ish minutes. :) I took a bite of the grinder I ordered(make sure you take a bite of BOTH the meat AND the toast), and it was SUCCULENT to the tongue. The meat wasn’t chewy and the bread was perfectly toasted with the right amount of parmesan cheese flavour. That dish itself is pretty much what you’d get as far as portion wise. Next time, I’ll try to wake up early enough for their breakfast. :)

I love this place! I’ve been going here since I was a kid. It’s a coffee shop that has no frills and the food is good. Service is spotty at times and it’s really crowded on the weekends, but I like it. Décor hasn’t changed much since I was a kid and the breakfast is still good as I remembered. The pancakes are always a good choice. I also like their club sandwich for lunch. Their fries are really good. I really like places that you went as a kid and still hasn’t changed much. It’s a 100% old school coffee shop.

Well … After my hike this morning, a friend and I decided to try something new. She took me to John’s… Let me just say this… NEVERAGAIN! They sat us on a Broken bench, ripped seats, dirty tables, and our hostess kept on talking to everyone with food in her mouth… Food is below average, service is really bad. Hope i Unilocaled somebody on here.

I stumbled on this little gem while moving to the north side of Huntington Beach, and in the time that I lived there, I probably dropped by once a week. It’s really that good. The place isn’t anything special to look at — it’s quaint. I’d say it has a retro feel, but the retro feel only applies if it’s a modern place designed with a decidedly old-school touch. No, Jon’s is actually retro, a walk-in flashback of days long before my time. It’s not to say that’s a bad thing at all, either. It’s very cozy, and for morning dining, it’s not alarmingly bright. Plus they have a fountain with live turtles right at the entrance. It’s a fun way to keep kids entertained while you wait for a table, which could be quite a while if you don’t make it in early on the weekends. A few favorites are: Broasted chicken — it’s super crispy, tender, and is heads above your typical fried chicken. Classic Reuben– I’m a sucker for a good reuben and they know how to make them well. Coffee — I’m also a coffee snob, and their coffee is pretty darn awesome. Beefeater– Roast beef on parmesan grilled sourdough with cheese and thousand island. So. Good. It’s not on the menu anymore, I don’t think, but if you ask, they have it. Gorilla Granola — It’s like a yogurt parfait with super tasty granola and fruit. The service is prompt and all the servers are attentive and personable, without being homogenously upbeat and devoid of personality. I’m a pretty big fan of not being chirped at early in the morning, but maybe that’s just me. Overall, great spot, great food, great service. I’m a fan.

Jon’s is a Huntington Beach staple as far as I’m concerned. Known for their breakfast, and delicious fresh squeezed OJ, always packed on a Sunday, had lots of great memories here with family. Greek Omelette saved my life today, after being sick the past few days, nothing sounded better than a nice breakfast from good ol’ Jon’s… Thanks guys. Oh, and they have a really cute fish pond in front of the restaurant with turtles who are always in a compromising position! *tee hee hee*

Tonight was different, or was it. Dinner was OK, till I get my credit card back, minus the original receipt. I was overcharged $ 12. The server fell all over herself and apologized. This isn’t the fist time something like this has happened. I had a similar experience about two months ago, at a different restaurant, but the mistake was noticed«after» we left. However in this instance I was not provided with the original receipt when the«error» occurred. I did request the original receipt and it was given to me. I will see how this all plans out when I review my credit card statement. Reason for noting this situation, as a similar situation happened about 30 minutes later at my local Von’s store. See my next review posted. These accidents seem to be happen all too often. After consideration, I need to add more to this review. Each server has their own bank, that is, they don’t use the cash register, instead each server handles the money onto themselves. I now assume that the restaurant owner has each server operate as an independent contractor, and not an employee. Something seems fishy, and it isn’t the food. If I ever return, it will be «cash only».
