So good! Went for dinner with a group of friends — were immediately greeted and seated by friendly staff. They were awesome… perfectly attentive. Here’s what we tried: Baked Mussels, Chilean Sea Bass, Spicy Edamame for apps. The Sea Bass was pretty damn amazing! Get it! Edamame, just right… a little sweet, a little spicy. Baked Mussels were good. For our entrées we got: Crunchy Roll, King Kong Roll, Scallop Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll and the Sashimi Dinner. We likes all of the rolls, but the two that were outstanding were the Spicy Tuna and the Scallop Roll… perfectly balanced! The Sashimi Dinner was good, it came with assorted fish, cucumber salad, edamame and miso soup… the best of that, by far, was the salmon… it was amazing, so much so that I’ll skip the assortment and just get salmon sashimi at my next visit. Overall — it was a great experience, highly recommend it!

High quality sushi, casual and clean dining experience. Make sure to go for happy hour, and try the King Kong roll!

I do like this neighborhood spot where the wait staff is consistent and I know what to expect. They are fast and friendly with their service and that’s important. I come here during Happy Hour where the prices for their rolls, appetizers and select hand rolls are more reasonable. Their fish can be a hit and miss but for the basic salmon and tuna, its fine. They don’t have fancy fishes like albacore, snapper, aji, uni, etc. So come to this place for basic Japanese rolls with fast and reasonable prices.

Food and service was great. Can’t say anything bad about this place. Catch them at their happy hours for really good deals.

Cucumber rolls are really good. The ones wrapped in cucumber. But the chef didn’t want to give me yuzu sauce on the side one time he said it’s expensive, and wanted to charge me 4 bucks for a tiny plastic cup. Whoa!!! Hell no! So food may be OK… but service is sub par and prices… a teeny bit high.

We ordered the Washington roll, lemon halibut roll and King Kong. The only one we enjoyed was the King Kong roll. The lemon halibut roll was very strange and barely had any fish on it so all you taste is cucumber, rice, and lemon. The Washington roll wasn’t t bad, just nothing special. The service was all over the place and there’s not a designated person as a host. Lastly, they play elevator music. We liked ONE roll out of the 3 we ordered. Sorry but it’s not enough for us to come back.

This is my favorite sushi spot(annnd I live down the street). The prices are good and they have specials every day of the week, except Monday when they are closed! Some specials are all day and some or for certain times of the day so call to clarify and CHECK hours before you go as they close midday between lunch and dinner and like I said, all day Monday… the fish is always fresh and I’ve been her many times. I am a creature of habit and my favorite pieces to order are the sushi pizza and Ichiban roll as well as the poke salad… Try any of those and you won’t be disappointed! The service is always polite and friendly. It is a smaller spot, but it adds to the character and charm of Ikeda.

Was given a gift certificate here and was excited to use it with my hubby. To start, this place does not have a sushi bar because they focus more on just sushi, they present themselves more as a Japanese restaurant with full entrée options which can be a nice change. Unbeknownst to us we walked in with minutes to spare on a Friday night before happy hour ended. I was appreciative that our server even gave us a chance to order from the happy hour menu, rather than omitting it from our menu options since it was almost over. Excitedly we ordered an Asahi, shishito peppers, and garlic edamame from the happy hour menu. Off the regular menu we ordered three rolls: Sashimi Roll, King Kong Roll, and Ichiban roll(with raw yellowtail on top rather than tempura style). All our rolls were delicious however the King Kong and Ichiban had more mayo dressing on top than we would like, but we didn’t know ahead of time that it came that way. Our shishito peppers were one of our favorites, as we have never had anything like them before. I don’t know of any other restaurant that serves them! I’m glad we had the opportunity to try it. Our garlic edamame was also a nice flavor change from your standard steamed edamame. Our server was outstanding by the way. A tall dark haired gentleman, wish I remembered his name but he was so helpful and really on top of it! Overall would come here again, but do prefer other sushi places only because of a more eclectic sushi variety that I’ve seen elsewhere.

We came here for lunch based on Unilocal reviews. Cute clean place but sad there’s no sushi bar. Staff are very friendly and super efficient. We ordered the sashimi lunch set with brown rice and the roll lunch set. Portions are big but the quality of fish is average. They cut the salmon sashimi incorrectly so when biting into the pieces, it was hard to eat and would get stuck inbetween my teeth. The tempura was very sad and small looking, especially when they are charging $ 6.50 for a plate. The shrimp tempura was actually undercooked/raw/soggy too. We’d give this place a 4 for service but 3 for food. Wouldn’t rush back, there are other better quality sushi places around.

Easily became my bf and my FAVORITE japanese place to go to in Orange County. It’s close by, small, good food, good happy hour, good vibe, good service. We’ve been here 4 times already, and I still love coming! BTW, they also have a TV so usually there’s a game on! Coupon: If you live in the area, they always have $ 5 off $ 20 in the mail coupons, which is perfect for us! They don’t make a hassle to take the coupon either, it always works. I think there is a lunch entrée too, but I haven’t come for lunch yet. Ithink it was a buy one entrée, get the second one ½ off? Something like that. w Happy Hour: Happy hour until 6:30PM, and we arrived at 6:20PM, and didn’t get seated until about 6:40PM, we still got the happy hour deal. They also have late night happy hour, starting at 8PM I believe. On top of that, they have special weekday deals: Tuesdays is 20% off specialty rolls, Wednesday is all day happy hour, and I think Thursday was $ 2 off wine? I can’t remember exactly but it was something like that. And they have a happy hour menu that you can refer to with all their discounts. Sake warm or cold was cheap too! Environment: It’s a small restaurant but not tiny. Dimly light but enough that you can see everything, everybody and all your food. TV is on. Everything else is fine! I don’t have any complaints. Food: KINGKONGROLL — our favorite. One of my favorite rolls ever! They char the fish on the top so it has a smokiness to it that is just delish! POKESALAD — Such a good deal and on happy hour, it’s only $ 9. And it’s a FULLSALAD. You can be full with this salad(but I always eat more anyway). They do not skimp on the fish! Garlic Endamame — It’s warm, garlicy, and a vegetable. What is not to love?! HH is only $ 3 or $ 4 too. Last night was the first time I got it, but really good appetitzer/snack before the meal. Everything else we have gotten here has been good or GREAT! I have tried most of the rolls now, and I gotta say, there isn’t one that I hated or completely regret ordering. They also have a special’s board on the wall that seems to be different everytime I go. We have ordered several things from there too. Some are a hit and some are a miss, but that’s more so up to the customer. They have specialty appetitzers, hand rolls, and regular rolls up there, so always check! The dessert menu is small though I gotta say! I was gonna get some dessert but there’s about 4 items on the menu, 2 of them being ice cream, and one was a sherbert.

This is a solid sushi/poke place. The service was good as well. There are some reviews that state HH is all day on Wednesday’s. This is incorrect. It is all night not all day. The King Kong roll didn’t disappoint. The salmon was very good. Prices are very reasonable. I will be back for HH.

Despite rumors to the contrary I deny selecting a skilled nursing facility for my mom based solely on proximity to taquerias, frozen yogurt, and Japanese cuisine. But imagine my joy when I realized that one of my Unilocal bookmarks, Ikeda, was in walking distance of my mother’s new, temporary home. Ikeda is a sweet find, quite well known for their well-priced Japanese fare and their even better priced happy hour(Tues. — Sun. 4:30 — 6:30 p.m.). Although it was almost empty at around 5 p.m. on a Tuesday many of those who showed up while I dined appeared to be well-known regulars. I’d be one too if I lived nearby. Although I began my meal with Shishito Peppers($ 4 during HH) and ended with Poke Salad($ 9 during HH) that’s all that was needed to tell me that I’d be happy dining here again tomorrow. Yes, that good. The piping hot peppers were flash fried, given a light soy sauce bath, then sprinkled liberally with bonito flakes. I tend to like shishito peppers however they’re prepared but these were the best I’ve ever sampled. They provided an umami blast with every bite. It was an exercise in restraint that kept me from ordering a second round. The Poke Salad($ 9 during HH) had just as much going for it: An ample mix of greens was lightly dressed in a spicy ponzu sauce(too lightly; request an extra side of dressing) and topped with seaweed, onions, a bit of daikon, a few scoops of real crabmeat(not that disgustingly sweet faux stuff), a few big slabs of Maguro, a few big slabs of Sake, a couple slices of avocado, and a small mound of Tobiko. I’d been expecting something more like the poke that’s being served up everywhere nowadays(cubed and flavored) and, though this was nothing of the sort, I was delighted it wasn’t. This is a fabulous salad with fish pieces larger than you would find in any run-of-the-mill sashimi order. My mom won’t be at the nearby skilled nursing facility much longer but, having found Ikeda, I sort of wish she would be. Good stuff.

Ikeda is a great alternative to your current poke joint The last time I came here was for lunch with two other girls. We all went with their $ 11 lunch salad. It includes salmon and tuna, seaweed, avocado, daikon, imitation crab and a light dressing of ponzu sauce. It was very good and satisfying. All the ingredients were fresh and it tasted great. The portion is huge and can fill you up. During happy hour the same salad only goes for $ 7 so it’s a great deal. All pricing is very reasonable. They carry a wide variety on their menu. They have happy hour from Tuesday-Sunday from 4:30pm-6:30pm and after 8pm. You can get sake for $ 4 and food at their HH price. They also have 20% off specialty rolls on Tuesdays. On Wednesdays, they have happy hour ALLDAY. And on Thursdays, you can get $ 2 off wine of your choice. The service was excellent. They were very friendly and quick with our food. The inside is very casual. There is no sushi bar so everything is table or booth seating. I want to come back and try their rolls and sashimis.

My friends and I got to the place around 7:30 and the wait was 30 mins long. However, we were seated more quickly than that even though they had a full house on a Wednesday night. We decided to order the king Kong roll, sushi pizza, and jasons roll. The service was good(the waiter was extremely nice and helpful!) + the rolls were good. It was a little overpriced, but it was worth it. I’d come back if I have a chance to be at HB again.

Best sashimi salad around. Generous strips of salmon, not chopped into smaller pieces like at other places. I get all salmon instead of the standard salmon and ahi, and they don’t charge me extra. Good price at happy hour. [I’m going through the uploaded photos trying to find the name for this one fish dish and it’s making me salivate and my stomach grumble. Sorry TMI.] I’ve also tried their black cod and grilled salmon misoyaki, and both are delish. Perfectly cooked — still tender not overcooked as is so easily the case. Their King Kong roll is one of my favorites of all the rolls I’ve had anywhere. The one-of-a-kind sauce over seared albacore really make this roll a hit. All the servers that have helped me are super nice. Wish they weren’t so deep into Huntington Beach. Otherwise, we’d be back more often.

Atmosphere: Casual. Not a traditional sushi bar, more of a restaurant setting. Favorite Item: Spicy tuna on crispy rice. Ikeda is probably one of the best sushi restaurants in Huntington Beach, their Happy hour prices are amazing only down fall is that they do not have All You Can Eat.

That awkward moment when the roll doesn’t fit in your mouth. So you bite it in half, but then you remember Sushi Etiquette 101: «Sushi is meant to be eaten in one bite. If you do bite it in half, do not set the rest back on your plate. Hold it on your chopsticks until you are ready to eat it.» Well, my chopstick skills ain’t that great. This was also the Sashimi Roll, a riceless cucumber roll that doesn’t hold together that well. I have failed the test. But to be fair, why would any sushi chef create a cut roll whose diameter can’t reasonably fit in one’s mouth? Aside from size issues, IKEDA also has shortcomings in the taste department. The boring«Poké» Salad had huge slices of sashimi and scoops of crab mix on a bed of greens with dressing lightly drizzled on it. When asked how it differed from the Sashimi Salad, the server replied easily, «Oh, the Sashimi Salad has more variety of fish and no crab mix.» Food dictionary, anyone? The only dish we liked was the Beef Short Rib in the form of a thin steak. It was advertised as choice or higher, and it was no lie– the marbling was there. Simple teriyaki sauce was enough to top it off. The sushi menu is limited(tuna, salmon, halibut, etc.); most of the cut rolls have a CA roll base. The restaurant doesn’t seem to be catering to the serious sushi eater. Although I failed Sushi Etiquette 101 here, at least our server aced Serving Etiquette 101. Her bright smile made us feel welcomed our entire visit. Sadly, menu choices and clumsy crafting of dishes give us no reason to return.

One star, two stars at most. They have a limited happy hour menu that is good until 6:30PM, except Wednesday’s when Happy Hour is all night long. I’ve included a picture of the special. Shout out to Julie for being a nice server. I’m very upset because we were brought out a baked scallop roll($ 11) and the scallop was way over cooked to the point where it was chewy and when we asked to take it back the waitress said the chef said that’s how it’s supposed to be. Why would you ever tell a customer that? Do not get this roll. It’s not good. At all. If you’re paying 10+ for a roll make sure it’s worth it. We ordered yellowtail as well and it was a nice piece but wow it just fell apart when we grabbed it. The rice was not good. Rice is so important for the sushi. The HH rolls are cheap but the sushi is also of that quality. Buddah roll was disappointing. Hand rolls were big but spicy was made with chili sauce. Honestly just don’t go.
