We came here while on a business trip because it is convenient to Hobby Airport. After reading other reviews, we did not have high expectations for this place but were very pleasantly surprised. The large selection of sushi and sashimi was fresh and good quality for a buffet. The oysters and heads-on shrimp were also fresh and excellent. We had large helpings of spicy crawfish, which the staff kept bringing straight from the boiling kettle. The place looks like a disco inside, which is actually kind of cool. Overall the selection and quality of the food are worth the cost. We liked it so much that we went back again the next night. We would give it 5 stars if the service was better. However, some customers basically waste food, trash their tables, act like pigs and then leave $ 1 tip on a $ 40 check. So, is it a surprise the servers aren’t very enthusiastic?

The main reason for us to come here is the seafood but if you don’t want to wait in line for each time you want craw fish then DON’T COMEHERE. The craw fish line was always so long and by the time it get to your turn, there was no more and you have to wait for it to come out from the kitchen, then WAITAGAIN! And the sushi was not fresh at all, the rolls were so dry, the salmon are frozen.. over all just NOTWORTHTHEMONEYANDTIME

The quality of the food is almost the same as the Regular Chinese food buffet. Maybe a little bit better. The 5 stars is for the clean environment, upbeat décor and the friendly servers. I will go back again.

Really enjoyed this place. Love the variety and also like the ambient. I will definitely be back for more and also food was on point. One thing was the ice cream and cleaning. There was a plate and ice cream on the floor by the machine and no one seemed to care to clean it up. I almost slipped and it just looks like waitresses didn’t care about it.

I had my taste buds all set for a good Asian buffet, but behold this place was a great disappointment. I swear this was an expensive endeavor. The food was not that great, I mean come on if you’re going to charge that much for a buffet please add fresh food on the menu. Watered down mac n cheese, it was so soupy. The shrimp were not seasoned or barely, with Tony chachre or imitaion on top of fried frozen actually freezer burnt shrimp. There’s a great variety of food but not what you would want. I could have spent my $$$ at the Hotel Galvez brunch and been well satisfied. I really want my money back because the food was absolutely horrible, oh and don’t mention the sushi, the worst I have ever had, I hope I’m not sick once I make it home. Maybe if I drink some 100 proof I can forget about this whole experience. I give this place 1 star because it’s clean, really looks nice on inside and lots of operable flat screen tv’s. Oh and the employees are very pleasant, I have no complaints about the service, but the food get a 10 negative from me. Should have relied on the Unilocal reviews they barely steer you in the wrong direction. But I’m a hard head had to find out for myself.

Clean, great service. Sushi was far above what I expected for a buffet. Choices beyond what I would of expected. Definitely will be back.

After 2 years of giving up on this so called new seafood buffet, I decided to give them another try. As you know, I’m not a fan of Chinese food let alone Chinese food buffets, though since I knew this buffet had an endless selection of sushi. I figured what the heck could I lose?! The dinner prices are a bit steep; $ 15.99 not with tax or drinks included… OK, no big deal because I’m on a spree of not ordering anything, but water for my drink choice and since water is considered a necessity they don’t charge for it. So, water it is! This place is huge on the inside; tables and chairs everywhere. I mentioned to the hostess in the front, not near the restroom, while my man added, «a booth, please!»(As I don’t what it is with guys and eating at a booth?!) As we followed behind, I kept thinking to myself, «oh, God she gonna seat us near the dang restroom» like maybe what I said sparked her assuming that’s what I wanted from the start. …in fact, she only sat us maybe a block away from the restrooms and in the back closer to the emergency exit doors. A little ways walk from the buffet line. «Well, that’s fair enough!», I muttered to myself. The race had began, I first piled my plate with lo mein, fried rice, a few sushis, and salt peppered shrimps with the heads; all was delicious! The second try; I got more shrimp with the heads, fried fish, fried shrimps, V star shrimps which by the way had no flavor; I’m thinking its a specialty of the restaurant. All was good except for the fried fish and V star shrimps on account I forgot to get mustard for dipping, but had my bowl of soy sauce with teriyaki sauce to add my own special flavor and also a lemon to squeeze on my fish.(«That’s how we do it in the South!») For the third round, I got sushi, more fried rice, and baked fish. The sushi and fried rice was yummy. The baked fish wasn’t so much cooked all the way and I just kept thinking just what I need food poisoning, so I didn’t eat it. The last round, I stuck to mixed vegetables since I noticed nobody even touching it. Also, the string beans since I loved the natural taste of them. All were very yummy! Now, such a break while I observe the restaurant and watch America’s got Talent! on the television in front of me… …my man and I also chatted away before he went to jog in the restroom. It was about 10 mins of me gleaming over all the hungry faces and noticing our server, Clarivel not even trying to delete our finished plates. she was clearly clueless as a doorknob. she wasn’t earning her tip nor working towards it. though the table in front of us she picked up their plates. …I didn’t say anything to her about it, I just responded to her checking on us every five minutes. She wasn’t blind and I wasn’t going to tell her how to do her job. If she doesn’t get a tip, that’s not my problem! As the other server was being very A plus on her job clearing plates, checking in, refilling drinks, I had wished we got her, instead of Clarivel! Oh, well I thought to myself, «Oh, well!» My man came back to the table with dessert. I thought well heck it’s my turn too! I went up first to get some pineapple slices, grape jello, green tea ice cream, and then some mango ice cream. One scoop of both. All was delicious! The second time I started dreaming of how yummy that mango ice cream was and had to get some more! I went up there to get more and noticed it was a tiny line. as I waited I got some more grape jello, some almond cookies for my man, and mango ice cream. This time two scoops! Wow, it was yummy! Such a light taste with a sweetness. We definitely got our money’s worth at this buffet. I could give them 4 stars if our server hadn’t messed it up and also the fact that the fish was cooked to my southern standards. By the way, I did give Clarivel a tip, but not what she had expected or hoped for. Everything else was good by far. The plates were cleaned, the floors didn’t smell, our table was cleaned, the food had flavor that increased since 2014 and the restaurant was beautiful. Not too noisy, though the background music was loud, but it went with the theme of the restaurant. They serve alcohol and sushi. So, I can’t complain too much about the high prices. Most buffets couldn’t top that! The dinner crowd came around 8pm on account we was there for half an hour getting our money’s worth. Parking is spacious! Just off the freeway, if you are coming from the south end take the roundabout of Howard Dr and wrap back around. It’s on the right side.

I came looking for cheap Chinese and sushi and I got just what I wanted! Everything was so yummy and the best part is I get to go back for seconds… Everything I choose to eat was very good I would go back! I loved the ice cream and my alcoholic drink was very strong and delicious. Service was ok I don’t expect the best from a place like this but she was friendly and quick for being a busy Sunday. I will go back!

I enjoy this place but it’s starting to slide in their policy and sometimes service. Now many times I’ve had nice servers, hostesses or to go servers, so I don’t want to make it seem like a few bad experiences ruin the bunch. I wouldn’t have gone back if I didn’t enjoy the food and passable to solid service. I went today and their to go policy is poor imo. They weigh by the pound, which is ok with me, but they don’t have a cap on maximum price. So if you box some heavier items with sushi/seafood you could pay 25 $ or more for a to go meal. This makes no sense. If the same person sat down and ate the same meal it would be capped, but also have dirty dishes, glasses and a table to clean. Even tipping 20% it still wouldn’t be as expensive. I also had a to go server who wasn’t friendly, didn’t smile(Lack of customer service aside, she did mechanically do her job though to her credit.) and a buffet restock person who also was unfriendly and wouldn’t let any people have any of the food until he spent a long time making everything artistically perfect. After patiently waiting for several minutes, I had to verbally speak up and ask his permission for him to stop and let me have some food. You’re here for the guest, and despite the pseudo fine dining/da club atmosphere, it’s still just a Chinese buffet. No need for stuffiness. Be friendly and don’t gouge your guest; we will be friendly back and pay for quality, just have a to go policy that makes sense.

Clean. Good selection. Great food. Went for lunch. Wait staff was great about cleaning our plates and refilling our drinks. Sushi was all rolls. Had everything from red snapper to soft shell crab rolls. Fruit bar is fresh and deserts are plentiful. If Chinese isn’t your thing they also have pizza and chicken wings or tenders.

Let’s just say that I am NOT coming back here ever. This was my first and LAST visit. MY biggest complaint was that i had a piece of fortune cookie paper inside my egg in the egg drop soup. You can tell the paper was cooked in the egg. I showed our waitress, and she told her manager. The manager talked to me and tried to argue with me that the paper was from the bowl I used. I told him no, it was not and he kept arguing back that the paper was from the bowl being dirty, which does not make his case any better. Either their food is dirty or their dishes arent cleaned properly if thats what he is trying to fight. I told him a final time that the paper was inside my egg. All he had to say was«ohhh, realllyy??? i’ll tell the cooks.» The manager did not do anything else about it. This just shows that the place is dirty. After that whole ordeal, I stuck to a salad and fruits, and ended the night there. I definitely did not eat my moneys worth. The dinner price was $ 15.99 a person. And to backtrack to before coming across trash in my food, the other food I did eat were not tasty nor seasoned well. The hot and sour soup was bland. The wonton soup was too salty. The mac n cheese tasted like pasta in water. The noodles were dry. The oysters had shells all in them. The crawfish was not good, and the meat of it was dry. I dont even need to mention the other food I tried. This place was just not appetizing. The best thing I had that night was the salad… but who can mess up a salad? OVERALL: dirty, bland and dry food.

If you want a good selection of sushi this is the spot. It might not be high end sushi but to a regular customer who wants a variety of different things to eat it’s worth it. You have to remember this is not a suit and tie fancy restaurant. It clearly says buffet outside so don’t expect your meal to be prepared by a master chef. It has a bit of everything from pizza to crawfish. The place looks awesome for a Chinese buffet so I think that’s why the prices are a little high. If you want to go to a cheap Chinese buffet then this isn’t your place. Overall if you want a nice atmosphere and good selection of sushi with clean restrooms then give this a try. I’ll be back again

This place just recently opened, it is the old Luby’s Cafeteria for those who has been around. This is the V Star that’s by itself not in the shopping complex so don’t mix it up. I drove by on my way to Kemah and notice this place. I saw that it was crowded the first day it was open, so I finally decided to drop by because there was a lot of cars in front but not as packed like the Grand Opening. The exterior looks new age and hip. Upon entering, it’s like I walked into a nightclub. At first I thought it was playing music like the other VStar but there was an actual DJ. Guess what, the cars in front was employees cars. Hahaha, what a bummer, I thought it might be good. FAILED on my part. The DJ played some horrible music, it was like heavy metal mixed with rap mixed with trance. Let’s just say it isn’t kid friendly music. The ambiance was a little too loud for an empty restaurant. There was a few people around, not too many happy people but they where around. I head over to the sushi. Nothing special, your average buffet with salmon, frozen tuna(these tuna are pre packaged), and talapia(trust me it’s not red snapper). No Unagi, Surf Clams, or Octopus. There was a lot, lots of maki rolls though. Your typically cheap shaggy dog, California, tempura, and spicy tuna. There was one, that looked good, but had no filling, I am calling this the BEER, Taste Great, Less Filling. Hahaha. The crawfish was my next stop, well I can’t complain too much because crawfish is out of season. But man, was it bland. It needed more heat and flavor. Majority of the crawfish was dead, if you open it up and it’s black. It’s dead. The clams had way too much oyster sauce or thick soy, I thought this supposed to be in a white wine sauce, I guess someone messed this up. The crabs and shrimp, well, I believe that it’s suppose to have flavor but this was just fried crabs. As for dessert, nothing special either. They did had ice cream but it was behind a counter and one of the employee would get for you and there was a tip jar there too for them serving you. Umm, no. As for everything else, I try a little bit of everything, but nothing stood out. It was was too bland or way too salty. When my check came, like the other reviews it came out around $ 20 per person. Way too expensive for a buffet that you can get anywhere else. I would usually come back again to try again, but for this price, I rather not. It’s not worth paying for it. I would expect more, like a better sushi variety. A habachi noodle stir fry. Lobsters. Something that makes it more worth it. Even the worse of Asian buffet have a habachi noodle station. VStar is just probably the worse and expensive of all.

Not worth $ 19, just another buffet. That money you paying for is probably for DJ Suckazz… Seriously, if you going to play music make sure it’s censored, there are kida around, and I dont want to hear the work F**** 27 times in a song. Especially if you going to remix. As for the food, lets start with the sushi, I think the plate that it’s put on cost more than what is rolles up. One of them didnt even had a filling, just mayo and crispy crumb. As for the other, no fish at all, a lot of Philly Cheese and raw green pepper and imitation crab. Crawfish, majority dead, and bland. The crab, old and soft, you can crack it just by squeezing your fingers. Clams, flavorless with a lot of soy sauce. Fish was dried and chewy. As for everything else not worth mention or eating because if you come here to eat the other stuff, you wasting your money. I feel sorry for the owner that invited me but sorry, your place sucks and not worth coming back. The cooks are probably the best of the worse at the original place. I rather go next door past the Texaco to Oriental Gourmet and pay $ 5.99(not a real recommendation) if I want to eat Asian buffet.

This V Star was the old Luby’s that got an extensive makeover. The interior is more reminiscent of the hottest night-club than of a buffet style restaurant but this is also its only asset. Undoubtedly an amazing amount of effort and money was spent to make this a nice restaurant which then is all the more amazing why the food falls short of expectations. Now granted most cheap Chinese buffets don’t exactly serve gourmet food but generally speaking they are more or less the same and they are usually cheap. V Star on the other hand is totally different, far more expensive than the norm and the food is really awful. I am not sure where these cooks learned to cook Chinese food but they need to go back to school. Specifically, its really really bland, the General Tso’s chicken has a doughy batter that is just bad, the fried shrimp have zero taste, the only item that had even a hint of flavor was the Korean BBQ skewer. At $ 10.99 + tea + tax + tip it ended up being a $ 18 lunch, which is fine if it’s good but not good if it lacks taste. In Houston there are so many options that serve a much better lunch for that amount, including Gigi’s Asian Bistro which actually does serve Chinese food. 2 Stars because the venue is actually very nice, if it was solely food based 1 star.
