Went here Jan 1st to celebrate my birthday. The place was understandably empty, less than 40 people. My group made up half. The bar didn’t serve pickle shots or White Russians. We were there for 2 hours and several of us at different times requested Footloose and was told by the DJ he would«definitely play it, especially for the Birthday girl.» It got later and later, still no Footloose. I figured that he would play it last to make sure we stayed till closing. He played songs that not a single person danced to. 2 am came around, the lights came on and the song was never played. If I knew he wasn’t going to play my jam we would’ve left and gone to another bar! We’ll never go back!

We arrived at this place, it was completely empty and a watered down tequila shot with hardly anything in it cost 8 dollars.

I like visiting this location whenever I feel like two-stepping. I know there are better country bars out there(music, ambience, bartender– wise), but they are either super far from me or charge a cover. My friends and I have never had to pay for a cover here, and we pretty much stay all night either riding the bull or dancing. The shoes usually come off at some point– I know, shameful. These nights usually aren’t planned. This is the only bar on Washington that I really go to anymore, and I still like it. I also noticed that there are more shy guys at this bar than at any other country bars I’ve been to. You’re gonna have to ask the guys to dance with you here, but it’s cool. I’m usually too drunk to be shy at this point anyway.

Went on a Sunday afternoon. And I have 3 things to say. 1. The parking was not terrible but also not the best but hey its Washington. 2. The music was good they had a live band. 3. The Drinks were Well Priced not Too bad. Over all I think the place was good. We has a good time and idk about other days but Sundays they have Tacos right outside the door! So that’s a plus

This place is terrible. The ambiance is cool, but the bartenders and door guys are very unpleasant.

So we just tried to go to Rebels, but they were closed for a private party until 10. It’s now 10:15 and they are still not letting people in– with no explanation. Sorry we were trying to bring 19 people to your bar …

This bar was a decent find. I went with a few friends after dinner on a Thursday night for some drinks in celebration of a friend’s birthday. Although the crowd was sparse, I had a good time catching up with my group and sipping on beer. The prices on drinks were not horrible. There was a mechanical bull that was entertaining to watch people on(minus the girls with dresses flailing — imagine the scene… too much!) Also, the dance floor was a good size for two steppers. I am not a two stepper but a country swinger but it stills served that purpose. The bathrooms are super great for a bar so I was very impressed by this and happy to use the facilities(a rarity in a Washington-area bar). Staff was friendly. The photo booth was kinda confusing and wish I understood its logic. Overall a good experience, but I will also spend time exploring other bars in the Washington-area before becoming frequent flyer here.

Not one single bartender out of three I encountered offered any sense of a smile, a welcome, a «hello», nothing at all that made me feel good about givimg them my business. All three of them not only came off as indifferent, but once I closed my tab, no form of gratitude was given for my business. Even a fake smile would have been better. I onpy came to the bar in the first place due to an event I was attending. I left a tip out of principal, but I’d rather have left a Xerox copy of my middle finger up. It’s not like I go to a bar expecting a kiss and a handjob, I just want my drink, poured right, and served with at least a fraction of thanks from the staff. I will never return to Rebels by choice. If I do go back, Im smuggling my booze in just to avoid the bar staff.

Great Dance floor. Went there with E&A, loved it. Not a big crowd because of a storm that night which just made it easier to dance. If I have a negative it’s that they charge for the great parking lot they have. So much better than the honky tonk I used to go to in Seattle.

The shot girl tried to make our group pay for shots we didn’t take. A bouncer on a power trip came over so I gave the shot girl cash to alleviate the situation. The bouncer then kicked me out(for what reason I’m still not sure). The manager caught wind of the situation and came out to apologize for the misunderstanding. I respect the manager for taking charge but it seems Rebels is full of employees looking for confrontation. I have been to Rebels several times before but will think long and hard before going back.

This place COULDBE the best country dance hall inside the loop, but they choose not to be. The country music selection is HORRIBLE, they have some punk-ghetto dude wearing a flat bill as a DJ. Every time we went to go country dancing we would end up sitting out half of the songs; this happened so many times over the past 2YEARS that we gave up and started driving outside the loop to Big Texas and other dance halls to get our 2 Steppin fix. If only one night a week they could commit to being a true country bar, getting a real DJ that knows the country genre, the crowd would clean up and be more mature. However, the crowd is seedy and it always looks bare like they’re hurting for business. The parking fee is horrendous and the mixed drinks are shoddy and overpriced, so stick with beer. This COULDBE an awesome place, they just choose to be lame.

I am LOL-ing at myself because I can’t decide if I should be embarrassed to write this review or not. I tagged along with my BFF on a Friday night who was part of a group situation turned weird 3rd wheel situation gone wrong. The parking lot was basically EMPTY when we arrived around 10:15 pm and I was pretty sure it was because it is Rodeo time. Then I also thought to myself that I may be WAY too old for this kind of thing and just MAYYYBEE nobody hits the bars at 10:15 pm and I might be a huge loser. There was no cover charge and the place was dead. There were a few people dancing and the music wasn’t obnoxiously loud so you could actually have a conversation. The DJ is REALBAD Y’ALL! His mixing skills really ruined it for me. He would play full length country songs(old/and new) then play some top 40’s mixed with older songs all about 56 seconds each. Now I am not even gonna lie… I was dancing. I am pretty sure that the tons of alcohol I had consumed prior to my arrival had something to do with it. Jim Beam was there that night offering disgusting shots, stick on mustaches and crazy classy(hard as hell to get off) spray on tattoos. Drinks were reasonable and the bar staff is friendly. Over all I had a good time. This place isn’t anywhere I would hit up on a regular basis, but it was great to put my boots on and get outside of my comfort zone.

There’s some two-stepping here but overall the atmosphere is boisterous and rowdy and crowded and the main stepping is of other people, onto your feet. You can have fun, but don’t go expecting to dance.

$ 10 parking or $ 25 valet + 2 x «Vegas Bombs» = $ 12. It was 7up and food coloring. Or maybe Fresca? Doesn’t matter, still a rip off! + $ 4 Mandatory Tip for B###h waitress who was passing around the«Party Shots». Once I paid for the shots she awkwardly stood there and said,“Oh its $ 12PLUS whatever you can give the staff.” Seriously? Here’s 4 bucks, go away you con-artist! + $ 6 Bottles of Miller Light = Go somewhere else or stay at home. Not worth the hit to your bank account!

One word: disappointment. I have visited this location back when it was Whiskey Creek and had blast. Fueled by nostalgia of fun times in the past, I suggested we go here. I am embarrassed that this disaster was my suggestion and I am sure I will banned from offering ideas in the future for a Saturday night. We chose Rebels because it was conveniently right off I-10. Coming from Katy, we figured it would be easier to get to than Wild West and we also left too late in the night to be able to find parking at Wild West. We live in Katy but, as a high school teacher, I avoid Midnight Rodeo ever since I ran into current students there. I need a go-to country place in Houston and I was hoping with all my might that Rebels could fit the bill. I guess the search will continue. There is a small lot right outside but it costs $ 10 so if you choose to visit this place, I recommend you carpool. We didn’t pay cover which was great but apparently drink prices made up for it. We had 8 drinks that night which totaled $ 90. Really??? Two of those drinks were Coors Lights! C’mon Rebels, maybe this is the norm for the Washington Ave area but it’s absurd at a bar like this to charge prices like that. Unfortunately, with such a small dance floor, filled with people standing around drinking, you don’t have much choice but to drink because dancing is out of the question. Please don’t adversities yourself as a honky tonk if you can’t keep the dance floor clear. Like most of these commercial honkytonks located in big cities, they played some Top 40 songs(I hesitate to call them hits because I didn’t recognize many of the songs) mixed in with country. This fine and to be expected at a place like this. After all, its not a legit Texas dance hall. Granted, the crowed here probably didn’t understand honky-tonk dance floor etiquette since most of them looked like they just walked out of Rush Week at SMU or UT. The amount of high heels, cocktail dresses, and Sperrys provided some great opportunities for judgement and laughter but it didn’t do much for the atmosphere. This is a Washington establishment through and through complete with high prices and clueless«hipsters». Gentrification is at its finest in this area. Save yourself the frustration and excessive bill by driving a few miles away to Wild West, especially if you want to actually dance and enjoy your evening with like minded people.

Houston — especially the outlying suburbs like Cypress, Spring and Tomball — has its fair share of credible honky tonks. Rebels, for that matter, is pretty much Whiskey Creek’s replacement. About 60% of the time you’ll hear country(primarily radio hits) with the majority of the crowd not too familiar with the two step — followed by a few hip hop and pop songs to get others on the dance floor. Normally, I love people and dance watching at country bars, Rebels, I prefer to stand at the bar. The girls are certainly cute — albeit, 21– to 25-years old, and most of the guys are a hot fratty mess. You might spot the occasional tall hottie, but chances are he’s taken. Cover charge is random. There’s a mechanical bull on the patio. Bartenders just love ignoring short girls(ahem, me). If you’re in your ‘30s, the best time to go is early and leave by midnight when it fills up super fast and all they play is pretty much hip hop — with the occasional country song. Don’t get me wrong, if you come with the right group of friends — my friends — you will have fun. We have fun wherever we go.

This place is fun when it’s not totally packed. Unfortunately, this has happened 1 out of 10 times I’ve been there. And I mean the kind of packed where you literally cannot move in any direction. Prepare to totally sacrifice your personal space. The bartenders do a great job keeping up with the crowd but it still can take 10 – 15 minutes just to make it to the bar. And the bathrooms? Yikes. Ladies, be prepared. Oh and on that note — that line outside is legit, not a built line like Ei8ht likes to do, but they really are at their limit most of the time. Also country music fans should be aware that country music is only played half the time. The rest of the time it’s booty-shaking hip hop. My biggest complaint is that this place violates the only cardinal rule for dance floors: Don’t allow drinks on the dance floor! It’s not a big deal when it’s hip hop, but if you try to two-step, you risk breaking an ankle or crashing into someone else when your foot suddenly skids two feet away. This effect is amplified in heels so that basically means if I try to dance there, I risk bodily harm. Now I’m an adventurous person but this is just too much for me. :( I still have not experienced the mechanical bull but I have to admit it’s pretty awesome that they have one. Makes it unique on the Washington strip.
