This place is just okay for me. It seems to be the hot spot in the neighborhood so I expected more. Ambience — VERY casual. Which I can get behind. It feels almost more like a big cafeteria, but I can see the history in the pictures on the wall which I do like. Service — Our server was nice but not great. He forgot things multiple times and did not look well-kept which in the food industry is so important. I just was so far from impressed. Food — pretty good. I had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and broccoli and rice casserole. I asked for white gravy but they brought some weird yellow«gravy.» I had to ask again for the gravy I wanted and it never came. Nothing was bad but nothing was spectacular either.

Kelley’s Country Cookin’ is a refreshing break from the norm in Houston. The décor is what you’d expect in a small town diner or cafeteria-style restuarant. The service mirrors the ambiance, very hospitable. It’s an older crowd generally, but it’s well-balanced with patrons of all ages. I’ve only eaten one item from Kelley’s and that is the chicken fried chicken. It’s the best I’ve ever eaten. Warning: The portions are huge. I’ve eaten on one meal all day. You could split it with three people, no exaggeration. The greens, mac n cheese and mash potatoes are my sides of choice. I don’t visit Kelley’s often because of its location, but when I do, I’m always satisfied. The food and service is consistently good. Make sure you wear your lose pants when you visit… thank me later.

I lived in Houston the better part of my life and Kelley’s had always been a Houston landmark. I was so very disappointed when I had came to visit for Thanksgiving and decided to have breakfast there. Service is below par. They need more servers or maybe just better ones. We had to ask several times for silverware and napkins. When we finally did get silverware, mine was disgusting. Food particles and grime all over my fork. Table was sticky. This place needs a good cleaning! The women’s bathroom was gross. One stall wouldn’t even lock! And since the 2nd stall was occupied, I had to use the broken one, praying no one walked in as I did my business. The food was just okay. Big portions as always. Again this place needs some serious TLC. A cleaning and an updated look and it can be the Kelley’s we all loved so much.

Do you not eat here do not eat the club sandwich. It gave me diarrhea. this is only the second time that I have ever eaten here. Both times gave me diarrhea. They don’t even deserve one star.

Good food, fabulous prices, good size portions. Two people could really split one meal and be satisfied.

I came here for dinner last night on a Monday. I wanted the special that is stuffed chicken. The waiter took about 15 minutes to come to the table and apologized, said he had other tables. We ordered fried pickles for the appetizer. I was told they ran out of stuffed chicken so I ordered the Monterrey Chicken. I wanted it with mashed potatoes and got french fries. bummer. Our waiter was no where near sight then another young man refilled our drinks, he came by a couple times.

What is there not to like about this restaurant? Our waiter, Alejandro(Alex) was as good as any I have had anywhere. Three of us agreed the food was very good, quantities very generous, price excellent, service from Alex better than I can remember getting in several years. … If you are on a diet with little self control, it may not be your best choice.

Country fried chicken breast is my favorite. 3 sides along with it and fresh cornbread is always a win. Take it back, bug in my food !!!

I’ve been to the location in alvin and although they have the same menu the food here is exactly what you would want to avoid when driving through a small town, missing is the vibe of the small town eatery you get when going through the other location. this feels more like a truck stop resturant where seabass and the boys hang out with teenage runaways. But if you don’t want to drive all the way down to waffle house to get that grease spoon feel stop here

The people who are comparing this place to Cracker Barrel have just lost their minds. This is not a chain restaurant and it’s obvious. 3.5 is WAY low for this restaurant. If you like home cooking this is the place to be. Real oatmeal; homemade biscuits the size of your face, literally. If you’re not a giant, take someone to split a plate with. Service is fantastic. It’s just a really great friendly down home place that reminds me of small town restaurants. Driving in here you can tell this is not a 3.5 star restaurant. It’s always super packed. I would post a pic of my food but I ate it already. The fiesta breakfast tacos are amazing! I normally eat two breakfast tacos and I barely finished one, just FYI. To say the portions are large is an understatement.

Ok… this was my 1st time going here. It was great. The food was absolutely wonderful. I got beef tips, mashed potatoes, corn and green beans. For $ 9. Wow. I just knew I was going to be disappointed. WRONG. I want to go back now, but I am still full. The customer service was awesome too. Raymond was great to us and we were great to him(nice tip). I will be going back soon. It’s kind of small. I can deal with that. I was really impressed. Thanks for being a wonderful establishment.

Back for a quick breakfast. Eh: just good: not really surprised that the corned beef hash is canned… massive breakfast… BUT: JEEZ: $ 2.49 for plain ol’ coffee? Well that does it for me… OUT.(Makes it EZ to explore for a ‘new’ place!)

Late review! My younger brother had told me about a place that serves huge amounts of food. Where the pancakes, chicken friend steak, ham … whatever … were the size of a plate. I HADTO check it out!!! So … on our drive to The Space Center we stopped there for breakfast. The place was packed! We were seated almost immediately … I remember it being cold as hell outside … So hot tea was a must! And their menu was pretty extensive too, I was surprised. The décor, I honestly don’t remember. but, you get the feeling that you come for the large amounts of cheap food! Not saying that the place is a dump! NO!!! I was just so preoccupied by the menu, checking out other peoples food as the waitress walked by and then my food! I ordered the sizzling platter special … ham, eggs and hash. My brother had chicken fried steak and my stepfather had this seafood special. When she brought our food out … I was in awe! My ham was bigger than my face!!! And I loooove ham! My brothers chicken fried steak was HUGE!!! I’m not really sure what they feed their chickens in the state of Texas … but goddamn! Hahaha :) jk My stepdads platter came out and I wanted to eat his food as well … I was in full heffer status that morning. But, I disappointed even myself. I couldn’t even finish my food … Barely half of it!!! What was wrong with me!!! Could it be that the huge thick slice of ham just intimidated me!!! Nahh … I doggy bagged the rest and actually ate it in the car on the way back from NASA!!! :D My next visit I will be mentally prepared for the huge platter of food!!! I loved it there! And when I do go back, my updated review will be hella better :)) I uploaded pictures of my monstrous food … but it’s not attaching to my review! lol

everything was delicious and the servings were big! this was my first time at a Kelley’s and I’m not sure if they’re all a «sit yourself» type of place. It was about 2pm and the place was packed! i just went to the first table i saw and i felt awkward, but i didnt wanna take up a big round tabgle in the back for just two people breakfast all day!

If you are looking for Pancakes the size of your head, salads as high as the sky and Chicken fried steak the size of your plate, then Kelly’s is for you. THISISNOTTHEPLACETOGOFORDIETFOODBUT«TRYIT» FOOD! Frankly, everything here is bad for you because you better not waste you money on a salad. unless it’s a chicken tender salad which is literally a whole fried chicken on top of lettuce. Went for a glutinous breakfast as we mourned the departure of a great co-worker and friend at 9 am. There was no crowd, no line and quick service. Our waiter was Caitlin and she was great and patient with us while we slowly ordered, giggled and stayed waaayy after our meal was done! We ordered the Country Boy, but swapped Pancakes for french toast and waffles. Someone in our party did order oatmeal but we love her and will let that slide! I paid for 2 peoples meals and it was 20 bucks. Totally worth it as I am too full to eat lunch. Make sure to visit for Lunch and dinner. especially dinner so that you can have your leftovers for lunch the next day! *Parking is easy with a private lot out front!

This would be a 3 star review but they took great care of us despite walking in 20 mins before closing so they get kudos for that. Really, you don’t come to Kelley’s for the ambiance– you come here so you can shove large amounts of cheap food into your face. It is the epitome of the greasy spoon. After a long day out, I very much enjoyed my grilled chicken melt even if the bottom was soggy– ordered with swiss cheese and mushrooms. Opted for fries and got a terrifying mountain of them, half of which I pawned off on my friends once I had my fill. Kelley’s isn’t a top destination in the area for me but its reliable at least. And when you are tired and starving, that’s all you need.

Thanksgiving day lunch was a bust. I really expected some awesome fried pickles for an appetizer but hopes n dreams were crushed. They were super thin and the bottom was drowned in grease. After a few I began to get a headache and thought it was too much«fried batter» and not enough pickle. My box car sandwich came out and I substituted my chips for fries. The sandwich was OK but the fries were way too fried. You could pretty much see through them and cracking one in half confirmed they were overcooked. The only thing I ended up eating was my sandwich, a few fried pickles and a roll. Thank god I can still look forward to my thanksgiving dinner because this visit to Kelly’s was a sad trombone.

The overall average rating looks right. I can’t do three and a half stars so I went for three, but I think three and a half is more correct. This Kelly’s is pretty much the same as the one in League City which I normally go to, so for a more complete review see my review of the League City copy. I’ve been to this one four or five times and have always been satisfied. ___ I’ve Eaten Out Every Meal for 25 years
