Felt so let down by Unilocalers on this one. Our first clue should have been when the restaurant was empty when we walked in, but it was a rainy Sunday afternoon, so we ignored it. While we were greeted promptly and brought a little snack to nosh on, the waitress then proceeded to go do a take out order on the phone, leaving us sit there for at least 10 minutes wanting to order, while she had two other girls behind the counter that could have easily taken the phone order. We finally were able to place our order. I thought the food was mediocre at best. The pineapple in the pineapple curry dish looked canned. The sizzling beef platter had way too much fennel in it, so as to taste very much like licorice, which I can’t stand Lastly the bathrooms were disgusting. I can’t even imagine the last time they were cleaned. Makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like. Overall not impressed with anything here and I will never come back.

We are new to Houston, and we were looking for good restaurants in the area. We read about this one on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. We were both were blown away at not only the taste and preparation of the food but also the presentation. We also both ordered cocktails and were absolutely blown away at the quality and presentation of those as well as well as great value. I ordered the scorpion and it was not only a wonderful drink but also an extremely fun punch bowl!

The first time we came here, everything was good except for the sushi. Had a very fishy taste, but the art on the plate was nice. Second time, service was sooooo slow — but they did happen to be busier than usual that day. Tonight, however, it wasn’t at all. We were the only group there when we first arrived. Even so, our drinks took a while to come out, and the two members of our party who ordered martinis were left waiting for another 20 minutes before asking the waitress there why they hadn’t come. It appears they have no real bartender — the waitress herself had to step back there and make them. When the two Grey Goose martinis came, they were made wrong — one on ice with an odd taste, and the other tasted like straight olive juice. When asked what she had mixed, the waitress couldn’t give a straight answer, so we ended up just sending them back. Mom had the shrimp pad Thai and commented that the shrimp tasted old, and dumplings arrived cold after the 40-ish minutes we spent waiting for the food to come out. In short, food is a hit and miss. I wouldn’t come here for sushi, and the service isn’t great either.

First time and not the last time. Food is fresh and excellent menu. I would tell everyone to have a great meal to try it out. You will go back. I was with six others that day and we have all been back again individually. EXCELLENT!

It looks super nice! I walked in and waited about 5 minutes, walked around to try and find someone, didn’t ever find staff so I left.

The food here is great. You don’t necessary get that feeling driving up but it really is good. The tempura shrimp is phenomenal and the miso soup is on point. Everything I’ve tried there has been excellent. I absolutely recommend this place for at least lunch.

Happy Garden is my go-to! Best sushi in the area… the salmon is always amazing. They even deliver! I’ve eaten here countless times and have never been disappointed.

It was our first visit and probably will not be back. We went on a Friday night and it was not busy at all. My husband wanted to leave because we stood there waiting for a table for longer than we should have since it was empty. I talked him into staying. Well we waited even longer for our beer and tea(tasted like canned instant tea w/lemon-didn’t drink it). We ordered the Sushi for 2, which has«chef’s choice» with no substitutions. They did allow us to say we did not want eel, octopus or anything like that. The dinner came with miso soup and salad. The soup did not have much flavor, but it was okay. The salad was fresh and the dressing was very good and I enjoyed the 1 cherry tomato. We had been sitting there for some time, but that can be expected when Sushi is being made. During that time you would have thought they would have cleared our table as we had the free shrimp puffs(?) plate, our 2 plates for that, 2 soup bowls, 2 salad bowls. But no they did not, just brought us soy sauce cups(should have taken all the plates). So when the waitress brought us a huge platter of sushi we were scrambling around clearing the dishes for her. She still did not take all of those dirty dishes which should always be done. The presentation of the platter was very nice, but no «art work» as seen in photos on Unilocal, that is the reason I wanted to go here, so that was a slight disappointment. So here we have a platter of sushi that was the chef’s choice and you would think she would have told us what it was, but after the platter hit the table she was gone, not a word. A bit shocked the chef did not put ginger or wasabi on the plate, we waited for the waitress that never came back so my husband had to go to the sushi bar and get it himself. The platter was $ 35 and certainly a fair price for all of the sushi and rolls that were served. The rolls were excellent. The tuna sushi was good, but the others had that dirty taste towards the end. We decided Choo Choo Sushi was a better deal with excellent service so we will be going there instead of returning to Happy Garden. We give Happy Garden 1 star for service. I don’t know if the woman talking to customers was the owner or manager, and we understand making that connection with customers is important, but when you have people waiting for food, checks and tables with mounds of dishes that need to be cleared it is more important than gabbing with customers. My thought, you can gab and help at the same time. I wondered what the staff thought of her no work role. My husband actually told our waitress that another table was waiting for his check, they came and thanked us. We had to take our check to the front because no one returned to our table. We give Happy Garden 2.5 stars for the food but since we can’t do .5 star, it is a 3. I was sick when I got home, but my husband did not so I can’t say it was from Happy Garden, but we will not be going back. Oh, when you walk in the door there is a strong smell of cigs, but did not notice inside. I really wanted to like this place, but it was a disappointment.

The food here is so consistently excellent all 20 times I have been here. I haven’t found a dish I haven’t loved. The satay sticks to the grand mariner shrimp to the mango chicken. All fabulous. They allow substitutions for other veggies and additions as well. We have had sushi as appetizers and it was also very fresh and delicious every time. We see the same servers each time and have always had great service. The prices are good, and the plates are always decorated beautifully as well. No complaints here ever! When you leave– try the green melon candies by the register — YUMMY!

When it comes to a lunch deal, you won’t find a better place. With the Bento Box you get a salad, soup, sushi roll, an entrée, appetizer and they still bring you a starter. This place is great.

Yummy food and great adult beverages. I have been there three time and I have ordered several dishes but the Grand Marnier Shrimp is a must try. They also have some of the best Sushi in Houston. This restaurant is a must try.

This place is so close to my house and when it first opened I gave them a try. The service was mediocre. It’s a hit or miss. One day I got bad service and the other I got an attentive server. FRENCHCRUNCHYROLL– spicy salmon, avocado, yellowtail, tuna, tempura flakes on top and served with eel sauce, spicy mayo, and honey wasabi The presentation looked nice, but the fish were not fresh. It tasted fishy. Other than that, I think this roll would have been a success. I liked that the sauces were on the side so you could choose how much of each sauce you wanted on each slice of sushi. ANGELTEARSROLL– spicy shrimp, cucumber, pepper tuna, and served with avocado sauce The pepper tuna was really fishy and didn’t taste fresh at all. When I bit into the sushi, it was cold. This roll was pretty simple and didn’t have any flavors that stood out. Overall, I wouldn’t come here for sushi. The prices are way too high for the quality that is served. For that price I could eat elsewhere, but for fresher and more exotic fish and rolls. I have heard that they make pretty good pad thai, but I know plenty of places for that; so I won’t be back.

This place is down the street from my crib. Now it’s not the best sushi for sure or even the best in the area, but it definitely has the best value though. We usually get the bento box(also available for dinner), and it’s very filling and has a good flavor. Service is fast and the servers are nice. We’ve been here about 4 times and I’ve never had a bad meal. You’re in the area or live in the area and want cheap good sushi on a budget, step on it then.

My husband and I really like ordering delivery from this place. Fried rice and beef and broccoli are our staples and are great. Portions are really large.

Alright. I was fall down hungry when I walked in, but I don’t think that’ll skew the review. Curry Pot– Green. Oh wow. Hot and Dee-licious! Keeping it short, can’t wait to try the place again ASAP. Time to get back to dinner…

I really enjoy everything I order from this place. I have tried more appetizers and I suggest the spring rolls and shrimp Tom Yum. I wish they had a happy hour for their yummy sushi.

Another hidden gem up north. Fresh, thoughtful, and tasty. If you’re looking for popular American Asian dishes made well, try this place for sushi, Chinese, and thai.

Came here with a party of 8 on New Year’s Eve. The place was fairly empty and had about 3 tables occupied. We waited for awhile until someone seated us and another while for her to give us the menu. I would say service was a 2⁄5 because never did she check on us and I had to even flag her down to get the bill Volcano roll: 5÷5− first time I’ve ever had it anywhere and it was really good! I liked it and it was crunchy Philadelphia roll: 2÷5− not good at all, I’ve definitely had better General tso chicken: 5÷5− so good and crunchy! The sauce wasn’t too overwhelming and just right Money bag: 3.5÷5− was ok, the filling is just too much and fat looking that when you bite into it just squirt everywhere. I don’t like the type of wrappers they used The sushi selection wasn’t very impressive and they didn’t have much that I liked. I always get the crunchy roll but they didn’t seem to have it which is weird because every sushi restaurants I’ve been to always have it. I will be back though to try more!
