I am from Michigan my relatives live around the corner and I have seen this place many times when I visit and have always wanted to try it. I went there the other day at lunch and asked for a take out menu, the counter girl looked surprised and told me I could take a picture of the menu on the wall, I left without ordering. I returned today to get lunch with the intention of getting shrimp and chicken… only. When I attempted to order the same counter girl waited on me, I ordered shrimp and chicken, no sides, again she looked confused and stated I had to order sides that I did not want, after conferring with other employees she stated you can order a combo with sides and a snack box, so I ordered the shrimp combo with sides of baked beans, potato salad and hush puppies and a snack box consisting of 2 pieces of dark meat chicken and hush puppies, much more than I really wanted at $ 13. There must be some way you can purchase al a cart. I must say the food is very, very good, best chicken I have had here. Since I am a «Yankee», maybe I misunderstood how food is ordered here or maybe they misunderstood what I really wanted. I will return again since the chicken is so good !

My review is based solely on the food. Place was clean and staff were nice. Food grossed me out. We ordered two fried chicken and chopped bbq combo plates. Fried chicken was cold, chopped bbq lacked flavor, beans and potatoes salad tasted like it was straight out of the package. Only thing I enjoyed were the hush puppies.

I am always impressed with the shrimp at Bruce and Mickey’s. I travel extensively and can never find the equal to Bruce’s shrimp and slaw. This eatery cannot be equaled for great food and speed of service.

The dirtiest, greasiest, darkest place I have ever eaten at! While I am not a food connoisseur by any means I do know what decent food should taste like and this place doesn’t have it. I have lived in Hope Mills for 14 years and it has been 12 years since I had anything from this place and now I remember why. The friendly staff is the only positive thing I can come up with. From the minute you drive into the pot hole filled parking lot and step into the place you can tell that this is a grease joint. I had a chicken and shrimp combo with coleslaw, fries, hush puppies and a coke. The chicken had the oil taste of a deep fryer. No flavor of spice in the batter or in the chicken. The shrimp were pale and starting to get cold. Well of course the coldness of deep fried shrimp brought out the grease flavor even more. No seasoning at all! Coleslaw was bland too. Fries looked like the ones you buy at Carlie C’s(no name brand) and the hush puppies were both over cooked and flavorless. As you go through the greasy cafeteria style line you come to the cashier who can’t run your debit card because the lady at the drive-thru is running a debit card on her machine. Ahhh… dial-up connections… so modern. Pay, get a coke poured from a 2-Liter bottle(so high-tech) and proceed into the cave. Be careful as the carpet in the dining room dungeon is so old and dirty that it is now part of the concrete. Grab ahold of one of the nasty chairs, sit down and hopefully it won’t fall apart. Where is my flashlight? The place is so dark that you can’t see anything! Gulp down the grease but don’t expect your coke to be refilled. The attendant only walked around with a pitcher of tea. What a place! I can say that I have been there, done that and that was the LAST time EVER! If you are into grease and dirt… this is the place for you. Enjoy!

I love Bruce & Mickey’s! Unfortunately, we live in Virginia and they are in North Carolina, but that is literally the only thing wrong with this place… and to be fair I think that means we’re in the wrong place, not them. :) Recently, Bruce & Mickey’s catered the memorial for the beloved Grandma of my husband. This is the first chance I had to try their scrumptious food, though apparently my husbands family has been eating here for decades. Everything was delicious, and my husband kept raving about the fried chicken especially — and believe me, he has tried a lot of fried chicken in his lifetime. Everyone at the memorial enjoyed the food. On our way back from a family visit in Florida recently we decided to swing by Bruce & Mickey’s and get lunch — partially to have more of their delicious food, but also to let them know how much we appreciated the food at the memorial. Let me tell you, the fried chicken fresh at the place was nothing short of phenomenal. I don’t even particularly like fried chicken that much and I LOVED it. My husband said that he has never tasted chicken with such a wonderfully light batter and he certainly wishes he knew the secret so he could make it at home. The sides that we had were all delicious as well — one thing that I’m sure other reviewers have noted is that this place is a really great deal. For $ 5.99 I got ¼ chicken(and I got to choose white/dark), two huge sides & either hush puppies or rolls. This is certainly enough for a meal + a snack later, even for pregnant, big-eater me(and if you’re a regular eater you might be able to make 2 meals out of it). They also have an amazing homemade hot sauce. I don’t know how they make that but I’d certainly love to find out! Everyone that worked here was friendly & helpful, and I especially enjoyed meeting Bruce. Thank you Bruce & Mickey’s for such a wonderful experience! We will be planning all of our drives through North Carolina based on you schedule so that we will be able to eat here each time. Sounds a little crazy, but only if you’ve never eaten here.

One of the best kept secrets in Fayetteville. The staff extremely courteous and the food was absolutely delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the friendly environment. I would recommend this place for a meeting or just to stop by for a quick lunch.

My family is from Hope Mills. Today was the first time I’d been back for this BBQ since I was 5 years old. I’m 43 now. It was just like I remembered.

Oh please don’t go here! Soo bad. Whoever said this is the best fried chicken lied. Ugh! Only redeeming quality was that it was super cheap.

First of many BBQ places I’ll be tasting in the south! Small place tucked into a big town. Couldn’t beat the price! $ 6.99 for a fried chicken &BBQ combo. Sides were very typical for the south and the hush puppies on the side were delish! Seems like this place gets busy as they have a huge room closed off. There’s also a lil drive thru if you’re in a hurry. That’s if the cafeteria style serving isn’t fast enough already. I’d come back for the bottomless sweet tea alone! Sweet people behind the counters and cleanliness is up to par.

Unsuspecting joint that smells the part. Service was outstanding as the women working the place were adorable. Que was OK — too greasy & needed more time in their sauce, which on its own is megaflavor & so good(you can take a bottle with you to the table & I ended up just eating dabs on my fork after the meal). Tea was high caliber & puppies were solid. But this chicken. Just fell off the bone, meat was übertender & with huge flavor, breading was light and didn’t overpower that awesome meat. Overall OK due to so-so sides & serving que out of a warming dish. Your best bet is copping a couple pieces of chicken, some puppies, and sopping whatever you can in that sauce.

This was a real disappointment. I tried this place to see if the BBQ was smoked, pitt style BBQ, and it was not. The BBQ was soaking wet and actually made the rest of my food soggy. The chicken was the highlight of the meal and was quite delicious. The fish was 6 out of 10. The fries and baked beans were mediocre. I would recommend fully to get the chicken because it really was fantastic. I cannot express how bland the BBQ pork is. The staff had some friendly members and some that seemed like they didn’t want to be there. Over all I will probably not go back.

No frills place. It is a counter service place but the one waitress there, Joseta(sp?) was so nice. The pulled pork was too salty and dry but the fried chicken was great! The skin was light and crispy… almost like a pork rind texture. Different that the usual fried chicken. Would recommend it.

If you’re not a local, this is the kind of place you really have to be looking for, to find it. Located just out of Fayetteville, near Hope Mills, it is worth the effort if you like country cooking, decent pork BBQ, fried seafood, and good value in a plain, no frills setting. This is another place where the BBQ is good, but not great, and the country cooking and fried seafood items are the real attraction. And the BBQ is good, if a little on the bland side for Eastern NC, but it is not a destination BBQ joint, at least not for me. The cue is moist and tender, moderately chopped, better on a sandwich than plated, I think. The setup here is modified cafeteria style, grab a tray, push it along the rail, order, and pay. The process is generally quick, but a line forms at peak times. The Fried Chicken here is simply excellent, and the Chicken & Pastry is also outstanding. I went back after my initial order to get a side dish of Chicken & Pastry to try, and the owner wouldn’t let me pay for it. Nice touch. The Fried Okra was very good, and the HPs are some you have to try. Prices are more than reasonable — for between 7 — 10 bucks you can eat yourself silly, if you are in to that kind of thing. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

I love a place that is totally unpretentious, in the middle of nowhere, and is great at what it does. The bbq was very good, but the fried chicken was exceptional — moist and tender with a crust that was not too thick or greasy. Also very tasty sides. Very nice people, but we came to expect that in every bbq restaurant in NC.

We Unilocaled for a place to grab a quick bite before going back to the Fayetteville Regional airport(8 minutes away) since we were not so keen on having airport nor airline food. Barbecue sounded nice so we quickly read the reviews and decided to give Bruce & Mickey’s a try. I had the Barbecue and Chicken with Coleslaw, Baked Beans and Hush Puppies. The Barbecue was pulled pork barbecue with a very smooth and mild vinegar flavor which was quite pleasant to the palate. Cooked just right. The fried chicken was great. Piping hot, not over battered. Juicy on the inside. I did want more! The coleslaw was fresh and not sloppy(as some slaws tend to be). The baked beans were just ok. Will definitely put this in the list of places to go back to when in Fayetteville, NC.

We were told by some of our friends that this is one of, or even possibly the best of the bbq places in Fayetteville. Great pork and sides, but the highlight was the fried chicken. Not a fried chicken connoisseur by any means, but this was the best I’ve ever had. Great tasting, not too greasy, not dry, not too salty. Just right.

Heading down I-95 and it was time to eat. Opened Unilocal to see what we could find. Bruce & Mickey’s did not disappoint. When you pull up and see all the local church crowd in the parking lot you know your on to something wonderful. I had the fried chicken, slaw and beans, the Fried chicken was first rate! The sides were really good too! Hubby had the fried shrimp, pastry and lima beans. The pastry(I know it as chicken and dumplings) were delish, hubby was happy to see lima beans on the menu. The fried shrimp was good, although not the highlight of his dish. wish Bruce & Mickey’s were closer, then again all that friend chicken would kill my waistline! Don’t let the exterior of the building fool you… it’s a diamond in the rough.
