I visited the winery with a large group of friends on a wine tasting tour on 11÷7÷2015. Another large group had walked in right before us and I believe took up the spot we had reserved. Within 5 minutes, the staff had pulled together another place for our group to do our tasting and have lunch. Two staff members helped us, providing us with the full tasting and checking on us during lunch to see if we needed more wine to drink. They really went above and beyond considering how busy the winery was at the time we were there. AND their wine is delicious!

Our limo broke down at the stop before this one so we had to arrive in a party bus it was a Tuesday afternoon the music was a bit loud on the bus when we arrived our driver went to check us in and was told We were to leave. None of our party had even got off the bus! Most of our party were 40+ of age So with that being said save your money go to the Naked Winery the host and hostess their are Awesome we bought plenty of bottles to take home!

Great wines and the outside seating area is nice. The employee at the front was nice and very helpful. Unlike other small wineries that are snooty, this place is actually about good wine and service. The red Rusty and Pinots are their top tasting wines.

The area is nice but no protection from the intense wind. The price of tasting doesn’t quiet quench the taste of the wine for what I was looking for. The best taste was the most expensive bottle, while the wine maker seems to try to experiment and make it a better catered taste none of them were quiet right. Nice people and friendly staff. Pretty scenery. Not my favorite though.

Wine was average. The person pouring for our wine tasting totally missed that we were a queer couple asking about having our wedding there. Pretentious and really«straight». The wine was nothing special.

You know, decent wines. However if you want to feel like a person, don’t expect to get it from here. The service leaves a bad enough taste in your mouth to sour the entire visit. Commercialized and and overly staffed with pretentious, slow mongers.

Great Wines! Nice tasting staff. This would fall under your«boutique winery» where as you wont necessarily find these bottles in the stores in your home town. Their wines however good. The grounds as expected are prettier in the summer/fall, but it was still nice to get out in jan/feb to enjoy this place and their wine.

Knowledgable staff and great service but wine was ok, maybe I didn’t try all the right ones but I did a tasting of 6 wines and none of which I enjoyed

Great wines but what a snooty staff! We went in there this weekend after a short hike in our hiking clothes so we weren’t all dressed to the nines, and we got treated like that. UNTIL we bought a case of wine. Then like a switch, we got all this gross kiss ass behavior. Please… Treat every customer equally, no matter what they are wearing, and then don’t ignore your other customers for the ones who spend a lot of money. Gross.

Super nice people behind the bar, conversation flowing from table to table to bar, beautiful location in the Columbia Gorge, good wine. What more could you want?

This gorgeous winery was our first stop on our winery tour with G-Limos. We walked through a lovely tasting room to arrive at a beautiful covered patio adorned with huge hanging baskets just bursting with colorful petunias. As if this place wasn’t darling enough, there’s a nest of baby birds up in the rafters chirping their little heads off. The Pinot Gris was my favorite, very crisp, fruity and refreshing. The second wine we tasted, the Halbtroken, a rosé was a tad too sweet for my taste. Some folks said they didn’t find it sweet at all. But the name itself does mean«half dry» in German, so based on the name, some sweetness should be expected, right? I really enjoyed all of the reds that we sampled as well. Two of them were very peppery, interestingly peppery yet still so drinkable. Anyone looking to do a wine tour in the Columbia River Gorge needs to add this fine winery to their itinerary. 2014 — Review # 68

Gina in the tasting room was awesome … Not stingy at all, lots of Bottles Open and it was late in the afternoon on a Tuesday ! Best reds in the area! The outside area is gorgeous and you can bring a picnic! We liked this place even better than the one near there that claimed to have the best tasting area.

As previous wine club members I had always loved visiting this location for its beauty, hospitality, and great wines. I’m hoping this was an off day. Three women were working and it was gorgeous out a Thursday. My Husband and I had won a tasting for 8 at a charity auction and were excited to use our winnings. Little did we know that we would come across a winery that treated us like no good people off the street without a dime in my pocket. It was like they assumed we weren’t going to buy anything so why bother being friendly. I honestly felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Women. Being in client relations I know how important it is to make someone feel welcome and appreciated no matter how small the sale or project may be. Obviously this is not part of the training at Cathedral Ridge. Some lessons in being gracious and not judging someone by their looks might want to be a focus in the future. The whole experience tasted like rotten grapes and reminded me of why I stopped my membership. Sad for such a pretty locale. Lucky for all of us wine drinking Oregonians we have plenty of others to choose from. Cathedral Ridge maybe if you let me taste some of the wines I asked about on the tasting sheet I would of bought more then my one bottle, but saying no to everyone I asked about is a poor showing of customer service. This was a tasting for 8 we were 2. The stars are for the amazing view and park like setting.

We liked this winery becaue it had a lot of variety of reds and not just Pinot’s. Deep peppery reds. We liked the 2011 Cab… but also enjoyed the Barbera and the Rockstar. Great place for a picnic with nice views.

Best picnic ambiance in all the river valley. Buy a bottle, pack a lunch, bring your backgammon and enjoy some great wine.

Above average wine, based on one bottle we picked up on the way to Montana. Nice location with friendly employees. I will stop next time I pass thru to pickup another bottle or 2 of their wine to try. I thought their prices were a tad high for the quality of the first wine tried but willing to try a few more of their selections next time.

I have to agree with others. They have A LOT of bottles that they won’t open for tasting. I have been mid-week and on weekends, and they are extremely stubborn about opening bottles they haven’t already opened. So, even though they tell you that you can have 5 tastes and 1 reserve taste, 3 of the tastes you want you can’t have because they won’t open the bottle. I don’t know what they’re waiting for! I brought in big money clients who were almost certain they would have bought the most expensive wine Cathedral had, but the woman refused to open the bottle for tasting. My clients even offered to pay for the tasting bottle if they liked it, but nope, they wouldn’t do it. So, while it is a nice setting, and they do have decent wines, they’re inflexibility with customers makes it overall an unpleasant tasting experience. Go down the road to Marchesi: Half the price, they open every bottle they have, and it’s a much more relaxed environment.

Before I left Hood River for the summer, I had to come one more time to the place where I got married. I have not been here in over 3 years, so it was due. They have added many more flowers and picnic areas. I do agree that the tasting fee is a little steep for Hood River, but thank goodness for the trusty Unilocal check-in deal that gave us the two for one, so it ended up being pretty much the same as every where else, since I am noticing that a lot of the places are not waving the fee even if you buy the wines. It’s fine. I am not looking to get toasted on my tastings. I enjoyed a few of our wines and ended up buying a couple. I really liked their Halbtrocken, a nice rose, and I got a bottle of their Syrah. We walked around the grounds reminiscing about our wedding a little over 8 years ago. I can’t believe it’s been that long.

This stop is courtesy of spur-of-the moment idea from Clare #523 — the«Let’s go camping-and-winery a go-go circus weekend» gem. Cathedral Ridge winery treated us well — so well in fact, that we decided to join the«the wine of the month club”(at a decent price, plus we get to go to «wine parties»(whatever that means). The owner was fantastic — treated the both of us vino-newbies(although I’m a certified wino) like reasonably competent folk instead of flagellating our fragile egos like red-headed stepchildren. The entire affair has now led me to appreciate not just the difference in price between my $ 3.99 bottle of 7 – 11 specialty rack sauce and a real, actual quality bottle of wine — something that I look forward to learning more about just around the 1st of the month for the forseeable future.

I can’t think of a cooler way to spend a Sunday. My last day in Portland, I took a bus tour of the many waterfalls that can be found in such places as Multnomah, the tour ending with a couple of stops at some local wineries. One of these wineries was Cathedral Ridge. Honestly, to try and explain the views would be tantamount to treason. I mean, it’s the kind of stuff you see in movies. In westerns, even. Just old pastoral movies where the setting does as much to advance the film as the plot, characters, and actors do. Set atop a hill with a view of Mt. Adams in the distance, Cathedral Ridge lucked into or scoped out or otherwise acquired some of the best real estate I’ve ever experienced. Ever. And the wine… Oh the wine… Barreling on site with plenty of planted grapes, Cathedral Ridge is a completely self-sufficient winery. And for five bucks, you can assemble a flight of five glasses for tasting(no fee if you buy a bottle, and when you see the grounds and the many little tables overlooking the breathtaking views, your instinct will be to buy an entire case). With a knowledgeable staff and a chocolatier on site, Cathedral Ridge is equipped to provide for a true wine tasting experience, a family outing, a first or fourth or tenth or hundredth date. As far as I can tell, the only thing missing is food, but really, everything else wells up inside of you in a way that food could never hope to do. A truly transcendental experience.
