1 star? I pick 0 stars. I looked this place up on Google and Unilocal and made a 2 hour drive from Welches to visit Viento knowing they specialized in Riesling and other sweet wines. I called and checked the website before embarking upon my trek(2÷20÷15), only to find they were closed. Both the website and the voice message indicated they would be open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after January 18th. Your loss, Viento. I bought 8 bottles of wine at 4 other locations. I would like to say I will give you another chance, but regardless of your website and outgoing voice message, I cannot actually trust that you will be open once I drive 2 hours to find out. Perhaps, as a business, you can update your business hours and the postings of such in a better, more timely fashion.

Loved this place and the visit! What amazing wines and wonderful service, truly an overall great experience. Even though we were dressed in our hiking gear and they were super busy, we never felt like we were being ignored or judged like we got at other wineries. The staff is super knowledgable and so friendly. And we took home a lot of delicious wine! The Brut Rose and Barbera are ah-mazing!!!

They finally have their own tasting room on Country Club Rd. I have been seeing this building under construction since last summer and finally they opened for the 4th of July weekend. They new tasting room is really nice and has a couple of picnic tables outside, beside some regular tables. The tasting fee is only $ 10 which is not bad, however, I don’t like the idea that you have to buy 4 bottles for it to be waived. Even some fancy vineyards in Carlton where we got one of 18 appointments, required only a bottle purchase to waive the fee. Needless to say I paid the fee since I only wanted two of the wines I tasted. I got a bottle of the Rosè and a bottle of their Syrah. Their wines are pretty solid and the winemaker makes a lot of wines for several of the wineries in the area.

We did an ultra-quick stop at this place. Unfortunately, when we arrived they had just closed. However we got lucky, and they guy attending the tasting room was kind enough to let us in and taste 2 of their reds. We tried: Vento Red Blend, and the Sangiovese. Our only regret was not been able to taste them all and truly enjoy the experience. They are building a new big and larger tasting room so in our next trip to the area we will visit again.

I visited the Viento Winery while doing the Fruit Loop in Hood River. It’s right next to the Gorge White House. It’s a tiny little place. I tried the tasting, and found a sweet dessert wine that I really enjoyed! The Viento 2007 Riesling Select Harvest was truly delightful! Taken off the bottle: ” ‘Viento’ means the wind and — like the winemaker comes from Hood River. this exceptional Riesling is from our own Columbia Gorge vineyards — planted in 1981. An incredibly low crop level and select picking give us a wonderfully ripe, late-harvest style wine. The aromas are of honied apples with sweet, rich flavors balanced with good acidity. Enjoy this wine, happiness and good health. Peace.“ I bought a bottle, and really wish I had bought more!
