The sushi was nasty. To cover the taste, the sushi chef — if he can call himself that, more like fast food sushi handler — squeezes a bunch of sauce on the sushi, making it quite mushy. It’s over-priced for what you are getting. And he has a sign that says he takes credit cards on orders over $ 20 hanging right on the wall, but he refuses to take credit cards. Will never go back to this dump, and that’s exactly what it is, a small little dump, trying to be a cool hole in the wall, but just isn’t. Stay away.

First and last time eating at this place. Underwhelming at best. It was technically edible. But keep in mind, my standards are usually low when it comes to food. Examples of this include years of loving top ramen, banquet frozen dinners, and 33 cent frozen burritos. Here are the problems I’ve had with this place: 1. I ordered the caterpillar roll. It was basically a california roll made with imitation crab with over ripe avocado slapped on top. Now, I don’t mind imitation crab, but I asked the guy what was in it. He said«crab», not«pseudo-crab» 2. Also ordered the dragon roll. The novelty of the dragon roll(as it was advertised in the picture in the menu) involved eel arranged in a way to resemble a dragon. Didn’t happen. I felt kind of gypped. It was exactly like the caterpillar roll, except instead of an avocado topping we had thin slices of eel. 3. Overpriced for imitation crab. 4. There was a sign that said«credit card for orders over 20». My order was over 20. I was forced to pay cash, even though he had that credit card sign up AND a functional credit card machine staring right at me. I was hoping for something more from this lil impromptu sushi adventure. I would have saved more money and gotten the same amount of «satisfaction» making a Ralphs sushi run.

Subpar sushi at best. The owner is nice enough, perhaps a bit overly friendly. He kept on chatting with us when we were trying to eat, and insisted us tell him if his cooking was any good… none of us had the heart to tell him it was awful… First off, all the meat items were insanely salty… I got the dragon roll, and my friends got the chicken teriyaki combo and bbq beef combo. first off, what i was served was NOT a dragon roll. It was a imitation crab roll with a thin layer of unagi placed on top. There was no tempura shimp, no avacado or cucumber… it was disappointing to say the least. and the unagi sauce was so so salty… and we were not served any water so it was difficult to swallow after the first few pieces… i tried the chicken and beef dishes and they weren’t any better. they were just as salty as my dragon roll. we finished what we could of our food as quickly as possible and left. the man was nice enough, but not to the degree where i would be willing to go back and eat his food. =(

This is $ 5-$ 10 sushi. That is what it is. If that is what you are hungry for, eat here. Sushi value may go up due to blond asian sushi chef guy. Not everyone has that. Nice off season acquisition by Sushi Wagon.

The saltiest teriyaki salmon I ever was at this place. From the grungy exterior, I decided to skip the sushi. Everything was fairly mediocre in this tiny joint but we were in a rush and didn’t want to try to find something better before our show at the Pantages. The guy running the joint was really nice though. And the eclectic diners were almost like performance art themselves. So far I haven’t had much luck with the places near the Pantages so I’m going to keep to my plan of eating slightly further away from now on.

My friend and I decided to meet at this place after reading about it on Unilocal because it was close to a place that she was coming from. Anyways, we’re always up for trying new places and this seemed fine. Parking is on the street. It can be a little hard finding parking. I found a spot right away, but my friend had to walk from quite a ways away. The interior is itty bitty. 3 tables really close together. Our neighbor actually started talking to us during dinner. The location is really clean. The sushi chef is also the server. I think it’s just a one man joint. He was very nice. And asked us how we liked his sushi. Seemed to really care about what we thought. The food was pretty good, though tiny. Well, the rolls were tiny. But the fish on the sushi was big… but the rice underneath it was small. But actually that’s a good thing because you’re not stuffing your face, trying to fit a giant piece of roll into your mouth. The tea was good — really good. The presentation of the sushi was nice. The food is cheap so that’s always a good thing. Not sure if I would dine here again, but definitely would call in an order if I was in the area.

I have heard so many good things about this place and I always walk by and see the owner hanging out looking all cool and stuff. The lady and I decided to stop in after we left the well on our way to Tiny’s. SO I understand that Sushi tastes good when it is fresh so I will be gentle. It was late at night, all we ordered was albacore. 4 pieces. It was so cold it tasted like I was eating mushy ice cubes. My girlfriend asked for ponzo sauce because she loves that stuff and the dude was like«No, I don’t use that here» all rude like, Sorry Mister Sushi God! did not mean to ruin the integrety of your tastless albacore by adding ponzo sauce. I still think it was a bad time so I am going to go back one day and fill you in

Very nice pricing, great tasting sushi, and pretty presentation. I’m still curious today how his business model works. I’m not quite sure how he makes 3 tables profitable with everything under $ 10 but I believe he’s made more money with those 3 tables and great service and than some of the big chain restaurants that keep dying out.

I’ve eaten here a lot of times. As a sushi addict I have eaten here while shopping or heading home from various Hollywood adventures and got the fix I needed… as a connoisseur I was not as exceptionally pleased but it was about average.

The last thing you’d expect to find along this seedy stretch of Hollywood Blvd. still untouched by the hand of gentrification, is some good suhi. Even though Kabuki on Vine is the closest sushi to my office, I’m happy to walk on by and head up to Hollywood for a bite here. It’s a little restaurant you’d almost miss if you weren’t looking for, sandwiched between a theatre turned strip club and tourist kitsch. Andy, the Japanese, bleach blonde, long-haired, owner and chef is worth the price of admission alone. He does a number of standards and specialty rolls, and is happy to entertain any special requests. Nothing on the menu is over $ 10 and while it may not be Matsuhisa, it’s reliable and good, and often better than the chain standards in the area. He takes genuine pride in his food and it’s presentation and will always make sure you leave happy. If you want something different, try the bbq beef roll. it’s goooood. I usually only have time to walk over to pick up my to-go order and run, but there are a few little tables if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal with Andy before heading out. It’s totally worth the while if you do.
