Favorite sushi place in LA. Top quality traditional sushi. Love the fact it’s randomly sandwiched between a subway and a dominos in a strip mall. It’s unpretentious. Only people who really love and appreciate good food will end up here! I’m so glad my friend found this place. They don’t need to give you over the top ridiculous rolls and you don’t need to touch the soy sauce. It will ruin their perfect flavors. Omakase is the best! He just kept dishing out hit after hit. Best oysters I’ve ever had. Squids texture and taste is top notch. The chefs are friendly and hilarious! I would eat there almost everyday if I could. I love love love love love this magical place.

This place is overrated. Sushi was only ok, but the service was terrible. With so many other options in l. a, I will not be coming back.

I’m with the low-star reviews. Ike is a cool guy and the place is warm and friendly, but sad to say the sushi just doesn’t cut it. Subpar fish and the rice is too dry for my taste. Have had omakase several times, wanted to keep going back due to convenience and comfort, but I’d honestly rather have grocery-store sushi! I’m happy for those who like it, though. I wish I did!

Went on a Friday night. Bottom line — served unfresh fish. The mackerel was clearly past it’s life span. We all took a bite and immediately rejected it. The salmon sashimi looked good, but the salmon used on the sushi was dull and not fresh. Extra star for the delicious Japanese scallops. Service was OK. Not great, not bad. Considering the prices, I wouldn’t recommend this place nor go again.

The most addicting sushi prepared by the friendliest chefs in town. Always fresh and tastes heavenly! Must try the Chef Omakase! My personal favs: seared albacore, spicy salmon, soft shell crab, crab miso soup, and mango mochiiiiii! but seriously, everything is so delicious here! Thank you Rick for a wonderful dinning experience every time!

If you’re looking for a sushi place with great traditional sushi and rolls, this is the spot! If you’re looking for big rolls with catchy names, move along. Located in the heart of Hollywood, first thing you’ll notice is that the restaurant is located in a strip mall. Don’t let that drive you away. Second thing, if you sit at the sushi bar, it is strictly chef’s choice(omakase). So, if you want a choice of what to eat then a table is for you. Finally, this place serves traditional nigiri, sashimi and rolls! It is great quality! It is priced accordingly! Don’t look for flamboyant, lower quality rolls! Enjoy!

Went before the Social D show at the Greek and we couldn’t sit at the bar because didn’t want the chef’s choice meal. Thought it was pretty strange considering there was only two people sitting at the bar. We ended up ordering two salmon sashimi, two tuna and one order of blue fin sushi, and two beers… The bill was 108! It was outrageous! I don’t mind kicking over a bill on dinner but the portions were just so tiny. I can’t believe how expensive this place was for mediocre sushi. There was nothing special about this place. Do yourself a favor and save your money and go someplace else.

I’ve had sushi at every«famous» sushi spot in Los Angeles, NYC, and Miami. Sushi Ike is hands down my favorite spot. Forget the fact that Rick is hilarious, the sushi he prepares is amazing! If you’re a real sushi lover please sit at the bar and get Omakase!(Not for roll lovers). Sit at a table for rolls…

Visited Sushi Ike by myself wearing gym clothes. Practically all tables were occupied so I asked whether I could sit at the sushi bar, which was empty. The host lady said«Sure, sushi bar is chef’s choice(Omakase), please have a seat.» I was not dressed or mentally ready for Omakase, especially since it was my first visit and I was by myself, so I opted to seat at the table. Warning sign #1: Host lady was pushy about me having Omakase. Warning sign #2: while browsing the menu, I overheard Korean being spoken by the host, the chefs and the wait staff. Everyone. Here’s a dirty little secret most Angelenos are unaware of: most sushi restaurants in LA are owned by Koreans. Ever heard of the popular sushi chain«Kabuki»? Korean. Why are Koreans so successful at running Japanese food establishments? Because they do it cheaper than the Japanese, which means cutting corners, especially with sushi which is expensive by nature. So that salmon you just ate is probably farmed. But your average non-Japanese doesn’t know the difference, and doesn’t really care. As long as they can get their Dynamite Rolls or Chicken Teriyaki doused in sauce for cheap, they’re satisfied. In my perspective, rolls are not real sushi. They’re fusion dishes that were invented in California for a Western palate. I was in the mood for sashimi, but seeing the exorbitant à la carte prices, asked whether the combo’s could be made sashimi style instead. The waiter said«not possible.» The other things that bugs me about Korean establishments. Inflexible customer service. So I order Combo A. The food arrives. I taste it. Are you kidding me??? I’ve had better sushi premade in a plastic container at Mitsuwa market! I was really hoping Sushi Ike would be a hole in the wall gem nestled between Thai and Armenian mom and pop shops. Seems like I’ll have to continue driving to Gardena or Torrance for the real stuff.

The most overpriced meal I’ve ever had. I’ve lived in Hollywood for over four years and I’m no stranger to paying a lot for a meal. This however, is that quintessential sushi spot which leaves both your wallet and stomach empty — something I had not fully experienced until last night. The specials don’t have prices, so expect to pay $ 3-$ 5 per sliver of fish. The quality of fish is excellent, but the dishes are tiny and are more amuse bouche than entrée. It’s like a tasting menu. Avoid this foodie tourist trap. Overrated doesn’t even begin to capture it.

They charge high end market prices for very low quality fish. When I mentioned that I was dissatisfied their response was a bit patronizing. If you’re a fan of traditional Japanese style sushi like myself, you’d be much better off going to Sushi Gen or Sushi Park. they’re within the same price range but the difference is that these places take pride in the quality of sushi they serve– so it’s well worth the money. I expect to pay for good sushi. But the sweet shrimp at Ike tasted incredibly stale and rubbery. At $ 15 for one piece of nigiri, it wasn’t worth it. The sunomono salad with seafood was practically inedible as well.

Really good sushi!!! I can’t say enough good things about the quality of the fish at this restaurant. The only thing I think they could improve would be the ambiance. For the prices that they charge and the level of sushi that they serve, they could reinvest in the décor a little. Very nice staff though and wonderful chefs!

Simply the best in a no nonsense setting. Don’t let the strip all façade fool you. Inside is top notch sushi and rolls. They don’t bother with fusion style here. It’s small and friendly. I have ordered to-go and had a wonderful experience as well.

When they say don’t judge by appearance, they really mean it. The location and outer appearance does it absolutely no justice. Glad I gave it a try, and will definitely back again. Super fresh sushi! We ordered the combo B, which comes with a variety of sushi, and also the octopus tempura… yum.

This was my first visit since Ike left. I know he’s been gone for a while now(I’ve been to his other restaurant in Pasadena), but I’ve been afraid to go back. Overall it hasn’t gone as far down hill as others would lead you to believe. The seared salmon and octopus are still delicious. The only thing I despised was the abalone sashimi and I normally love abalone. The ankimo was cut in triangles instead of discs. It made for an interesting presentation, but the chunks were a bit too large and I felt like I got less ankimo than I normally would. It’s still not a bad place if you’re in the area, but I probably won’t be coming back again.

I am baffled, seriously, by the 4 and 5 star reviews. Granted, I didn’t order omakase, but I think a solid sushi bar should be worth its salt whether you leave it to them or not. A corner strip mall isn’t exactly prime ambiance for sushi, but the mood lightens once you get inside. The service was a little slow as they tend to focus more on the folks sitting at the bar(so I’d recommend sitting there!) but nothing bad. I thought the fish was good but nothing spectacular. Again, I’m sure if you’re dropping a pretty penny for omakase you get a markedly different experience… but if that’s not your game, I probably wouldn’t recommend this place when Kabuki and Katsu-ya are just a stone’s throw away from here.
