Not sure why the owners son is working in the front. He has such a grouch. He is so grumpy while taking orders and you. Can’t hear him when he talks. You definitely don’t come for the service. I’d say it’s not your typical Chinese restaurant with fast service and never ending tea. It’s not even your typical Hilo Chinese restaurant. I get it it’s local style and we eat Chinese food all the time. But If you are only doing takeout it’s good. I can’t give more than one star for service, getting the crispy chicken with sauce on the side and egg foo yong and dai chop wui with cake noodles. But they run out of cake noodle sometimes. How do you do that?! Oh well the food is good. But can’t come here to again to eat inside. I’d just get takeout.

Huge portions– but the crispy chicken was way to crispy. However the wontons were good. My brother-in-law said«the lunch cook is better???» The oyster sauce was very tasty. BUT… I don’t like it when it ends up that the first to get their food is finishing when the last person in the group is just getting their food.

Very disappointed in the service tonight. Called in my order of lemon chicken and cake noodles. Told it would be 10 – 15 mins. Arrived 10 mins later and paid. 20 mins past and I ask her how’s my order. Without looking, she says it’s coming so I wait. I watch people order and get there food before me. After 40 mins, I ask again and find out that the ticket wasn’t even sent back. Asked for a refund and left without any food. This place needs to hire more workers. Never experienced this in a long time. It will be a while before I go back.

My cousins from the Mainland wanted to go to Cheng’s to get some Crispy Chicken with oyster sauce but they were closed so we went to their sister restaurant, Ling’s. We got there when they opened and we were the only ones doing table service, everyone else were doing take out orders. Haha felt as if we had our own private party. The last time we got food here, the chicken was overcooked. Very disappointing. Well today we got Crispy Chicken with Oyster and Lemon sauce on the side, Char Siu, Dai Chop Wui with Cake Noodles and Egg Foo Young. All I can say is REDEMPTION! Chicken was perfect, Char Siu was bold in flavor with a nice balance of meat and fat. I’m sorry but fat is flavor, haha! Everything else was just great and nothing bland. The cook sure did know what he/she was doing. I’m really glad the food came out great today. We were all stoked and satisfied. I wish they’d be more consistent but other than that today’s experience is the reason why their crispy chicken with oyster sauce is a must have!!!

Made a phone order for 3 orders of roast pork. I got to the restaurant possibly 15 – 20 min later and no order placed! So I decided to still make an order. I was told it would be about 5 – 10 minutes && I waited almost 30 minutes for my order! Absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. The worker’s attire is not pleasing as well. Very very slow service. My advice, just DON’T DOIT.

So I brushed off the fact that the cashier and waiter were having a full blown argument right next to our table. Maybe they were both having a bad day. I wasn’t expecting outstanding service for cheap Chinese food but I can’t pretend I didn’t see the little roach run down the side of my chair. Yuck! The left overs was dog food.

I live in Utah, but my wife is from Mt. View, HI. She always tells me that Chinese food in Hawaii is the best. I didn’t believe her until we went to Ling’s. The food was great. I also appreciated the casual atmosphere. We had the lemon chicken, oyster chicken, manapua, cake noodles, spare ribs, and wonton. All of it was excellent. They don’t have Coke, just Pepsi. That is the main downside.

Came here because my go to chinese spot was closed. Second time eating here but I don’t remember it being this bad. First of all, opened my container of shrimp Canton and they poured the sweet and sour sauce all in there making my food soggy with all of the sauce on the bottom. The shrimp canton itself was good but who Does that? You’re supposed to Keep the sauce separate especially if it’s to go or atleast ask the customer. My broccoli in the beef broccoli was so soggy too. It was weird. I always eat it at leungs and it never tastes so squishy like that. Nothing good about the fried rice either. Ugh. Idk why everyone goes here in Hilo. Why because of the oyster chicken? I will not be going here anymore.

Don’t judge me, but I went back. I was hoping it would have gotten better, but I was wrong. Everything tasted like it had been sitting for a long time. Hard to chew, it was terrible. Now I know, I’m definitely not coming back. The 2 stars is for the fried rice, tasty and fluffy. Maybe it’s because we ordered through a delivery service, or maybe all the food is this bad. Bummer.

OK so this place is good for basically one main thing. Crispy Chicken! Any kind is good… Oyster, lemon, orange. They are all awesome. I’ve tried a few other dishes and they are hit or miss. Food: 5 stars for the crispy chicken. 3 stars for the rest. Atmosphere: 3 stars– kinda run down. Not the cleanest. Suggest take out. Service: 3 stars– they take your order and bring it out fast… not many smiles, no frills. Value: 4 stars– large portions. Oh yeah… ask for the sauce on the side if you take out so the chicken stays nice and crispy!

This is the best Chinese Restaurant ever! I would definitely recommend anyone looking for some good Chinese, Local Hawaii inspired food to go here. Anytime I fly into Hilo my first stop is Lings Chop Suey. The service is awesome, the food is delicious and the amount of food that they give for the price can feed a family of four!!! I absolutely love this place. I compare a lot of Chinese places with this place, and so far Lings Chop Suey out beats any Chinese restaurant to date! AWESOME!

I can’t get enough of this place! Their lemon, oyster and sweet sour chicken plates are the BOMB!!! Even the half order of either one is like a full order elsewhere! I wish they had franchises across the state. Whenever I go to Hilo, this place is a must stop! This and Chengs.

This is the worst Chinese«restaurant» in town. The freaking two Chinese babbums looked at me like I was dumb. There were roaches antennas in my pork fried rice. I’ll never go here again. They did not even want to give me my money back. Inspect the food before you eat and pay after your done if can.

Hole in the wall chinese restaurant located around the corner from Foodland. Family has picked up take-out from here a couple times in the last few weeks, mediocre food, generous portions and alittle disappointment in the staff’s attitude after we found brillo pad fragments in a stir fry dish, they just didn’t seem to care. We should have called Ling to let her know, but I’m sure she’ll eventually read about it here. Not sure if we’ll be back.

Crispy Chicken with Oyster sauce… this is as original to Hilo as the Loco Moco. Ling’s had a sister restaurant at the old Kaiko’o Mall, but we all know what happened to that mall… oh well, the childhood memories of that former Hilo hot spot. Ling’s is fast becoming a Hilo landmark, because of it’s longevity at the same location since the early 90’s, and has some of the best Cantonese food in East Hawaii. Yes, the Crispy Chicken with Oyster sauce is my favorite at Lings, and you really can’t find it any where else outside of the Big Island. In fact, there a place in Las Vegas that tried to copy the Lings recipe, and calls it «Hilo Style Oyster sauce chicken». It’s not the same, but when where they have it… I’ll order it. To say, I dream about eating the real macoy, yes, I do, and this plate would be one of the first dishes I’ll hit when I’m in Hilo. Ling’s makes there plates very huge, so come hungry. One more thing, if Oyster chicken isn’t your thing… try the crispy gau gee with Vegetables or Beef broccoli with cake noodles.

This place gets busy… so call in to go orders. Really friendly staff, customers all know each other. Food is fast, good, and decent prices. I tried the recommended favorites, off the menu as I am not a fan of open steam tables. All good, but I will get more adventurous next time.

Hmm, ate here one day and it didn’t taste the same as before, maybe it was an off day, but the oyster chicken wasn’t as good as I remembered. It was still good though, but nothing I will crave for.
