Tan Republic Hillsboro

Extremely expensive, misleading advertising tactics calling the cheapest base level beds «gold» level. The Groupon is a ripoff. The beds are inconsistent quality and strength, especially at different locations. Not worth $ 50 a month for weak, cheap tanning beds.

I purchased a Groupon for Tan Republic as I was going to be a bridesmaid in my best friend’s wedding and needed to get some color. There were some pretty intense fees associated with signing up so instead of purchasing a one month membership as I had planned, I decided to commit to a 3 month package to avoid the start up fee. For the platinum package, this worked out to be a little over $ 100 a month. My Groupon took care of a portion of my first month (August) and I paid about an additional $ 30 in store to start. After that, I was to be billed $ 108 for September on August 25^th and $ 108 for October on September 25^th. All fine and dandy.
As far as the facility goes, it was nice. I used a couple different beds, the rooms were always clean and I was always offered a towel at check in. The staff was hit and miss. The guy who sold me my package was super nice and the lady who was there about 80% of the time I went was also friendly. There was one guy that I avoided like the plague, though. Like. I actually called a few times before tanning just to make sure he wasn’t working. He tried to up sell me into a longer package not even a full week into my existing one! The way he went about it was completely wrong. It essentially came down to him telling me I was old. The convo went something like this: «I know three months seems like a long way away but the older you get, the faster time goes. I know it’s that way for me and you are even older than I am.» Thanks for pointing that out, Justin Bieber! Are you even 21 yet?!
In the end, I cancelled my membership because I just wasn’t good about using it. They do request you go into the salon 30 days prior to the end of your contract (for me, this was to be Oct 25) and I went in on Sept 23 to sign the paperwork. I was advised Sept 25 would be my last draw date. Done deal, right?
Nope! Oct 25^th comes around. and I get another $ 108 charge from Tan Republic! *Sigh* I half expected this due to the fact I have never had a tanning salon stop charging my card when requested (Palm Beach Tan & Forever Young, I’m talking to you!). I called in to get the issue sorted and was provided with a phone number for «Zach» in customer service, however when I dialed the number I was given for him it went to a computer software company. I tried calling the salon back but no one picked up. I am not too worried as I have my cancellation contract and can dispute with my bank but it is definitely a hassle.
Overall, I did give two stars mainly because I liked the beds and the person who sold me my package was extremely nice and helpful.

I have to say as a whole I have thought Tan Republics prices & beds are far more reasonable than their competitors. I usually tan at the Cedar Hills location where the customer service is superior. I have only tanned at the Hillsboro store 3 times. Today when I came out of the tanning room there were two gals talking and the girl behind the desk didn’t even acknowledge me walking out and just continued on with her conversation. You’re in CUSTOMER SERVICE! Greet people when they come in, greet them when they’re walking out! I asked her if they had a restroom and she rolled her eyes at me, paused then said RUDELY, «it’s on the other side.» I was taken back by her rude behavior so I thought for a moment, maybe she doesn’t work here? So I asked her politely if she worked there. She said, «yes, I’m in training.» So if you like to being ignored, eyes rolled at, and treated rudely by a girl behind the counter that can’t pause her conversation for two seconds then this place is for you! Last time I checked a customer service institution actually serves their customers with a smile on their face! Again, so far this is the only location where I have experienced this type of service.

Love Tan Republic they are worth every dollar I have! they leave me with an amazing tan!

First experience tanning and the staff has made every stop a pleasant visit. Very friendly ladies not to mention they all have healthy looking skin instead of having orange and burnt looking skin like at other tanning places I’ve seen. Everyone seems to be very knowledgeable about their job and always advises me on what to do or how long to tan in a certain bed.

Tan Republic is AWFUL!!! I’ll be posting this on all of their Unilocal business reviews. There company is a rip off!!! Beware, their «memberships» are actually a contract that you can’t get out of. There tanning beds are weak! Save your money and your time and go somewhere else.

Showed up at 9:40pm and the doors were locked… Hours on the door said open til 10? I’m going to Hawaii in January and was going to drop $ 100 on a package not to mention buy a new bottle of lotion.
But no worries I went down the street to Palm Beach tan and they hooked me up:)

I was on the lookout for a Groupon to pop up so that I could try a mystic tan or two out before vacation. I was pleased when Tan Republic had a 2 for $ 20 mystic tan session, as it’s really close to my house. I hadn’t been to a tanning salon since high school and based on my own past experiences didn’t have very high expectations for any tanning place.
However, I was overall really pleasantly surprised. Amanda set up my account quickly, explained the mystic tanning process thoroughly, and was happy to answer my questions. She even asked me how it went afterwards– overall a super nice girl. This alone will bring me back to a business, so in the future I will go here if ever I’m feeling particularly pale. The contraption itself is huge and loud, but the final product was an even tan that lasted about a week (fine by me, and about what I expected). Trying to hold your breath while it was spraying I found was impossible, and I tried to wait until the mist reached my lower legs to breathe in, but I still sucked in some fumes. Just a head’s up on that.

Friendly staff, not fakey at all! They have a wide variety of beds and packages. Nice and clean too. Perfect place to get my base tan before going on a winter vacation to San Diego and Costa Rica with my Oregonian skin! I just wish they still had mirrors in all rooms.

Always the nicest girls working behind the counter! I like this location, it has lots of different beds, so I never have to wait to tan. Large selection of lotions, and they always have promotions going on.
