Gelsosomo’s has been a staple in the region for several years now with multiple locations. I’ve eaten at Crown Point, Highland, and Schererville. The Highland and Schererville locations at least have a joint operation with the Bullpen bar(not Crown Point, I don’t know about other locations). It is a big confusing, to be honest, unless you know this, is it a bar or if it a pizza place? Anyway, it seems this concept seems to work in Highland better as it is laid out more like a restaurant with bar, then a bar with food as an after-thought in Schererville. This seems to read negatively so far, but I do really love Gelsosomo’s; I just am not sure about this location. Now, the pizza. This place is like Aurelio’s little brother: very similar taste and texture, but just falls a little short to Aurelio’s. After all, it’s hard to be compete to a giant like that. The sauce is sweeter-leaning with plenty to taste, a nicely flavored stretchy and melty cheese, and a almost a buttery soft dough(not really crispy, but not necessarily soggy). The pepperoni and sausage are cooked under the cheese, enhancing the flavor the pizza. This is where I had to ding this location: the sausage was very dry and seemed to be over-cooked. It was chunk style, but tasted kind of gritty and crumbly like Langel’s. I was a little thrown off as I had never experienced this at other Gelsosomo’s locations. This usually happens when the sausage is either precooked when preparing the pizza or the chunks were lazily hand rolled/placed. Unfortunately, I have heard this same comment about the sausage from friends/family regarding it being different than CP and Highland. Did it take away from experience? A little bit. But was it a good pizza? Yes, it got the job done. Random note: this pizza pairs exceptionally well to beer. I’m really not sure why, but I usually do not drink with my food. This worked well. Maybe that’s why the Bullpen partnership is key. My recommendation is check out Gelsosomo’s at a different location and get the true 4 – 5 star experience.

One of my favorite pizza places! At first I want crazy about this place, then, the third time I ordered, it just clicked, and became the family favorite. We usually order delivery and it is super quick regardless of the day. Favorite pizzas = sausage, pepperoni, onion… Or just bacon! Also, the breadsticks with cheese sauce are an absolute must!!!

Ordered the Taco pizza, meat was over cooked and very dry, crust was like cardboard, couldn’t taste any sauce, so much lettuce you couldn’t see the pizza !! Don’t waste your $$$… Following day ate the leftovers, bit into an olive pit !

Been there several times and tried both the pizzas and the sandwiches. All were good. Also enjoyed the guacamole and chips appetizer, and I’m picky about my guac, so you passed that test! Service wasn’t anything special but also wasn’t a problem. I’m sure I’ll be back sometime!

Poor service. Bad food. Asked server questions about the menu and she stared at us like it was rocket science.

I should have known this place would be disappointing when I tried to order using the menu’s roman numerals and the person on the phone had no clue, and then asked me what was on each pizza after I told him the name. Pizza arrived cold and looked put together by a lackadaisical teenager, sloppy. Crust was soft and soggy. For $ 25 bucks nothing makes this pizza worth trying again. Too bad.

We love the pepperoni pizza! So good! Also the pretzel and beer cheese is great! And their salads are delicious! I have tried a couple other menu items, but from now on i just stick to what i know is really good. The service i have had has been mediocre. The servers need more training.

Usually I’ll forgive anything(high prices, idiot teen workers) for a 5 star pizza(see my Arrenello’s review for proof) but I’ll ding this place a little bit. This is the kind of place where you might order a pizza and they’ll call you ten minutes later to tell you they’re out of some topping, or some side, or whathaveyou. It’s happened three times already, and they’ve never offered any concession or credit or coupon or anything. That ticks me off. But I keep going back because… The pizza, of course. As most people know, it’s exceptional. The first time I had it, it tasted like a knockoff of Aurelio’s, but I gotta say, they’ve won me over. Try the plain cheese — it’s phenomenal. Their biggest pizzas are 15″, which is much smaller than most NWI pies, and they’re over $ 20+ each. Well, unless you have a coupon, which brings me to my next point. They currently offer VERY competitive coupons, presumably to break into the lake county market. The locations out near Valpo don’t get these awesome coupons. Once they take those away from the Highland location, I can’t see myself going as often.

We went on a Tuesday around 4:30 pm and were one of the only tables in the facility. I thought it would be a good thing and we would get great service but I was wrong. Our waitress was very nice and friendly but forgot our drinks not once but 2 times when we asked for refills. By this time we were the only table in the building. Since we didn’t eat all day, we decided to start off with two appetizers: the Chicken Quesadillas and the Southwest Egg Rolls. The egg rolls were really good but the chicken in the quesadillas was super tough and hardly edible. Plus we decided to order the Banana Bread beer since I heard it was really good. Our waitress told us they had ran out and we decided to try the Magic Hat #9 fruit beer. Not my cup of tea but it wasn’t too bad. My daughter ordered the kids Mac and Cheese which was basic out of the box macaroni. Since she’s a picky eater we had no issues there. My boyfriend ordered the Texas Barbecue Cheeseburger. He said it was really good even though his fries were a bit over cooked. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan. Very tough chicken(I should have known better because of the appetizer) on a small amount of spaghetti noodles. The sauce they put on top was so much that it made the food taste like pure marinara, nothing else. All in all, I wasn’t very impressed with the food or the service. I would guess that the food would taste 10 times better after I had five or six beers… depending on if they were in stock or not.

Been here before, wasn’t too pleased. This time was better. Pizza was good. I had the sliders, could’ve used some sauce though. Garlic parmesan fries, excellent. Traditional wings mild were excellent. Waitress was very friendly. Definitely a different experience this time around!

So I was at this restaurant Sunday whit my family we sat down place was slow, we put our order whit the server we order a 2 beer two kids drinks and a large pepperoni pizza, we got our drinks an hour later I ask the server how long on my pizza she said a few minutes, my boys were hungry, 15 min later still no pizza, I ask for a manager thank God and thank you to the people next to us saw what was going on and offer my boys a slice of their pizza, so the manager came her name was Mary she was the rudes and unprofessional person I have had talk to, she said the pizza will be ready shortly, I told her I have been waiting for about an hour and half, I just wanna paid for my drinks she basically told me and my family to leave I ask for another manager she told me she is main person for that location, so there you go, that was my experience at the restaurant. I give a star because I had to.

Awful!!! I should have known something was up when no one was eating there-just drinking. Server looked like a wanna bee hooters server. My Greek salad had black olives and the house dressing is a Greek one-it tasted like a super sweet Italian-yuk. My husband ordered pizza, it had cheap cheese on it-the kind that is flavorless and salty. Will. Not. Go. Back.

We had never been to any Gelsosomo’s locations, so we had no other location to compare this visit to. Our waitress helped us make our pizza choice decision. We were going to make our own topping choice. She suggested to go with the 7 cheese and then add what we wanted. We did this, adding spinach, tomatoes, and mushrooms. Incredible! Even though there are 7 cheeses, it’s the combination of cheeses that makes it good. It’s about the equivalent of «extra cheese» somewhere else. We sat in the bar area and it wasn’t too loud or anything. They had a decent amount of daily specials to choose from. Definitely a new local favorite!

I’m only giving two stars because the drinks are good! That’s all the food wasn’t up to par nothing like the one Portage. First time here I had these expectations got shot down. I think they lack in guest service and got sick from food. Thought naw not this place but it wasn’t the same nor the taste. So second time here we go… Nope same thing. So I will not be going back and if I do it’s only for drinks. Convenient for me cause its within walking distance lol

Tried a couple pies from the Schererville location. I usually like any pizza but this was just terrible. The cheese had a funky texture, it was way too salty, and boy did it do a number on my stomach. This is the only pizza place I can think of where I’ll likely never go back.

Having grown up in Portage, I have had the original Gelsosomo’s so many times and just loved it. So I was excited to hear that they were opening one right here in Highland. WOW! They absolutely did not let me down. In fact the crust is such an improvement not that it was ever bad. This Pizza is hands down the best in Highland. If you like Sanfratello’s or Aurelios you will love this pizza, same type of sauce with a far superior crust. They just opened up so I have only had a chance to do a carry out order, They have an extensive menu though. The place looks really nice inside, and has a full bar, No Delivery yet, but I imagine after they get over the huge opening rush they’ll have that available. As far as service, everyone was really friendly and on their game at least from a carry out side. I’ll update if I dine in.
