Porterhouse and New York Strip steak were just OK. Not much bang for buck. Asparagus side was good. Mushroom side was not good. After spending $ 250(without drinks) I was still hungry and unsatisfied. Would not return.

I made reservations for our anniversary, knowing it would be expensive, and the food was amazing! Start with the House Bread, you will not be disappointed! Kentucky mule was delicious, the french onion soup and caesar were tasty. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the cauliflower risotto was great! The brussels seemed heavy but then again we had a ton of food! Great service! We almost went with the DineLA menu but I’m glad we did not because it was 4 courses and we couldn’t even eat 3.

My Third visit, Very disappointed and won’t be returning. I ordered the ribeye($ 60.00) it was sub par. I asked for no dairy on any of my items and both the steak and side dish had butter. We waited a good 45 mins before our meals arrived. Not worth it. My second visit right around when they first opened the food was good but I ordered the ribeye(60 –85 dollars I believe) the waitress came back and said they only had the tomahawk but neglected to tell me it was twice the cost. Ughhh come on you guys! So disappointing

When I first heard that the new restaurant that would be in this location was going to be a steakhouse, I was elated. I feel like that’s what was missing from the area. And after dining here a few times, I’m still happy that a steak place moved in, but it’s not perfect. To me it’s simply overpriced for what you get. Every steak I’ve had here has been good, but not great. The most recent was the Tomahawk Ribeye. Taste and temperature were both very good, but 60% of the steak was fat. I expect this cut to have a lot of marbling, but not like this. Beet salad was amazing, albeit small. Sides of asparagus and mushrooms were both good. I started off with the Hudson whiskey flight — fun to do a whiskey tasting, but apparently I’m not a huge fan of Hudson. Service was great this time, better than the last few times. One thing that I do love about this place is the ambiance. They nailed it in this regard, and if nothing more, I’d at least come back, sit at the bar, and enjoy a whiskey from their tremendous selection. Not rushing back for dinner though…

I live a block away and wanted a good steak without a hassle. Walked over had a descent steak which seemed highly overpriced for the area. This is a local small steak house and for the same price can have the Mastros or Cut experience with live music and more ambience. I like to support the local business but it’s a one n done.

–Steak was cooked well but was bland, thin, ¼ fat and frankly not great for $ 60. –oysters had grit and came with hot sauce, bourbon something and wasabi. Just give me vinegar and horseradish. –bread was $ 5 and was the size of my fist. Although it did taste good –Brussel sprouts have a cream sauce which just doesn’t go well. –service was fantastic. –every common whiskey you could think of but if you’re looking for some hard to find American stuff: four roses small batch, van winkle, angels envy cask strength you are out of luck. Sadly, overpriced food that’s not worth the extra $.

This place was good and I am glad we tried it. We enjoyed everything we ate, but for the prices I expected it to be fantastic, not«just good». The service and the wine were great. The 15oz Ribeye was good, but not $ 60 good. You could get a better steak for the price or pay less for an equivalent steak elsewhere. The sides; Cauliflower Risotto, Mac N Cheese and Creamed Spinach, all good, not great. The beet salad and caesar salad were great. The bread was delicious… but you have to pay $ 4/$ 5 dollars for it. We spent almost $ 400 here, maybe throw in the bread. All and all the 4 of us enjoyed our night, but we all agreed it was a place you would visit once for a special occasion.

Not bad, but not great. Great whiskey selection(surprise). Food was a charcuterie and a cheese plate for an appetizer– good, but they need to serve more bread or crackers with. Had a steak, was the cheapest one they have(but still $ 30), just average. Sides are extra. Maybe the $ 60 steaks are better, but didn’t feel like spending that much money. Service was a little on the slow side for an uncrowded Monday night, but friendly.

My family had been dying to try this place since it opened. We were all so excited for an upscale steak restaurant in Hermosa. Pros: Our waitress was wonderful. She had a great personality and was available anytime we had a question. Some dishes were very unique in flavor and very tasty. I liked the steak tartar, beets salad, Caesar salad, Brussel sprouts, and New York steak. We thought the cauliflower risotto and spinach were only ok. Cons: There are a few cons that have made my rating really change and made our family dinner memorable in a bad way. The table was very wobbly on two out of three of our tables and it took about 30 minutes to get one of them fixed. The kitchen brought out our sides maybe ten minutes before we had our entrees or any plates. When they did bring us plates I guess they came from the oven and caught our table to start burn. The fumes of burning paint filled the restaurant. The food runner kept handing until three out of 6 of Ilya had burned the table. Then we begged for regular plates. The smell was still there after we finished eating. I felt worried about our health. It also made our food taste like burned paint. I was very surprised no manager was around to talk to.

Yes overpriced, but quality of food is good! Steak was perfect made and very delicious. All in all a very good option compared to all those sports-bar-burger… offering locations in Hermosa Beach. Outstanding for Hermosa, even there is better value for money around in southern beach area.

Yes. This place is EXPENSIVE. I mean it’s called Steak and Whiskey. What are you expecting? Hamburger helper and John Williams? Come on. That being said, the food is absolutely delicious. Had the Hamachi Crudo. You wouldn’t think that fish and yogurt would go together, but they totally compliment each other, and we were told to eat the fried garlic blossom garnish. Didn’t disappoint. That chef knows what he’s doing back there. I also really enjoyed the zucchini risotto and there was some type of ravioli. Small plate sizes for the appetizers but that’s cool with me cause I just had more room for what I was really there for… STEAK! Tried a few of the steaks. I prefered the rib eye to the waygu. Both were delicious and well prepared, but the Waygu is a fattier cut of meat and I liked the slightly leaner rib eye. I think one of them was seasoned with grey sea salt. Never heard of grey before, pink sure, but that’s why I’m not a chef. We also go the chimmichurri sauce on the side. Complimented the beef very nicely. Whoever is back there cooking up a storm does it with finesse and aplomb. Got a few desserts to share with the table. Peach cobbler was definitely my favorite. Soft gooey peaches with a nice toasty crumble on top. Best with some vanilla ice cream. There was a pannacotta and a bread pudding as well. Both tasty, but that peach cobbler stole my heart. They have a wonderful and extensive whiskey collection and the cocktail list is nicely varied, so you can definitely find something you like if whiskey isn’t your thing. I tried a few whiskeys and a gin drink that was very well balanced. Slightly sweet but didn’t drown the delicious flavors of the gin. Beautiful restaurant. Small and intimate. Great lighting and gorgeous wood work. I think it seats about 50 maybe a little more. There’s a small bar you could choose to eat at as well. Staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. I never had an empty water glass. Reservations recommended.

An amazing find in Hermosa Beach! After a long work day, a few friends and I wound down with a little bar hopping to watch some college football. After, we decided to stop in and try Steak & Whisky. I’m always critical of foods… but particularly steaks! It was a 4-hr dinner BUT not because it’s slow, but rather because we loved it so much, time kept ticking away until we realized we closed the restaurants and half the staff are already gone, including Lauren, our server who was on her way out also. We made same day reservation, had an extra person with us and no problems with being accommodated. We were seated within 5 – 10 min of arrival on a busy Saturday night. The place has a small, quaint but warm, cozy, classy atmosphere that’s appropriately dimly lit, with the bar showcasing over 100 varieties of various whisky & whiskey. Dress is casual(but of course it’s Hermosa) but I’d recommend classy casual as it is a great Steakhouse and definitely a date night restaurant. Our server, Lauren, was excellent and very attentive and knowledgable, of the food menu as well as the bar menu. Service was expeditious without skipping a beat. She was very attentive to the table without being annoying… a very difficult balance for any server. Her recommendations were spot on… although she did have an incredulous look when I ordered the 43-oz Tomahawk steak for myself :). The scallop/Uni, as well as fried quail apps were delicious, an indication of greater things to come in the meal. My friends ordered the strip. Our steaks were perfectly cooked at a medium rare temperature, and the accompaniment of house steak sauce, peppercorn sauce, and fresh grated wasabi was amazing. Cocktails and whisky are also worth the money splurge. Definitely exceeded my expectations. The cozy atmosphere of this single dining room restaurant made us feel at home… so we stayed in conversation… leaving 4 hrs later after realizing that we were holding the staff… well after closing time. We were NEVER disturbed to be reminded that the restaurant has closed for the night… wow, what an extraordinary level of service I must commend. This is something I have not seen in a very long time. I highly recommend this place for a casual dinner or for a special occasion!

We came here on a Friday night with reservations. We got seated 30 minutes before our actual reservation time… which was really nice. The ambience is small but cozy. The staff is very knowledgeable and attentive. Ok, now onto the food. My boyfriend ordered the Kansas City Strip, ordered medium well. It was simple yet tasty. Worth the $ 70? I’m from KC, born and raised and I never had to pay that much for premium steak. So no, it’s not worth the price tag. I ordered the Cauliflower Mash, 4oz Wagyu, shishito peppers, steak tartar. Everything was cooked perfectly. For drinks I had Bill the Butcher(ok), Kentucky Mule(excellent) and Tennessee Rose(good) Our bill came out to $ 220…which is steep. Overall, great experience and great food. Just be ready to foot a heavy bill.

Let me first say that I loved the interior. It’s all new wood, brick and leather, and gives off a smell that I associate with big red Napa wines. The ceilings are high, the room is compact and bar is small, but we never felt crowded. And service was absolutely outstanding! As for the food, Ia recent L.A. Weekly article that summed it up perfectly: The best things were NOT the steak and the whiskey: The spiced carrots were a huge hit, as were the squash risotto and grilled asparagus. But the wildly high-priced proteins underdelivered. The rib eye and the lamb were good but not memorable. The pork chop was massive – the best deal on menu – but it was overcooked and dry. However, all presentations were top notch. We brought our own wines, but they have an extensive and nicely imagined list. Next time, I’ll try some of the other items recommended by the L.A. Weekly review. Because I sure won’t be ordering steak.

I made a reservation for two using open table and called them the day of to see if they can accompany a party of 4. Lucky for me, they said they would see what they could do and call me back. They were able to accommodate me and actually did call back. I really appreciate good customer service, Steak & Whisky went beyond my expectations. I was already pleased before I had even ordered. Lets start with the drinks. Whiskey flights(West & East Coast Variations). Really crafty cocktails(the Spa day and the kentucky mule were both really good) and a good array of wines to chose from. The bar ambiance is also really nicely done. On to Dinner — start with the bread, you wont regret it. The bread is warm, fluffy, and very good. We shared 4 sides — 3 starch 1 veggie. The asparagus was probably the best asparagus I have ever had. It had a hint of lemon to it that picked up with each bite. The mashed potatoes and mac n cheese were also REALLY good(and tasted great warmed up the next day). The onion rings were crispy and accompanied by 2 variations of dipping sauces. The fliet was cooked exactly as I had ordered it and they have a few sauces to chose from to accompany your meat.

Yes lots and lots of whiskey… obviously as its named a new steakhouse with a serious whiskey collection, whiskey lockers and 22-ounce, prime, 30-day, dry-age porterhouse steaks. The bar has a fabulous collection of Bourbons as well as varieties from Japan. I am more of a scotch drinker but this lately I have been opening my pallet to try Bourbon more and Steak and Whisky had a great selection of it and Bar manager was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. There’s also a full wine list, beer; and housemade cocktails with tea and alcohol fusions. My favorite Dishes includes steak tartare; duck confit salad; cauliflower risotto; 4-ounce A5 Japanese Miyazaki Wagyu and instead of sauce I opt for fresh wasabi :-) This is a great addition to the South Bay with attentive service, while the atmosphere is outstanding, the place is small. Instead of a bar, they’ve converted belly-up bar space into walk-in tables. If you’re looking to have a good pre-dinner old fashioned, they do make one, but you’ll have to drink it by the hostess stand while you wait for your table. Overall a great experience and can’t wait to be back for more.

I loved the experience here. Being in the South Bay, it is a restaurant you might find in Downtown LA or Silver Lake. We tasted most of the menu at Steak & Whisky, including some of the most popular cocktails on the menu. I was unsure of what my experience would be here. I read Besha Rodell’s review which didn’t seem too thrilled about the place. Based on her review, I don’t think she is much of a steak or a whisky person. It’s not at the top of my list, since I’m more of a seafood rather than steak person. I indulge in steak maybe a few times a year. And when I do, it has to be at a reputable steakhouse. I have never visited any of the sister restaurants, such as Abigaile or Little Sister, in the area either. I was invited by some friends to join them for dinner. The service here was excellent. It was the most attentive service, comparable to the service I received at Mastro’s in Beverly Hills. Trying most of the menu, my favorite was the wagyu. If I ate that dish and only that dish, I would have been extremely satisfied. Rich in flavor, just a small bite would have satisfied seafood lover me. Excellent. Of the dessert, I loved the panna cotta which was infused with a smoky flavor, which reminded me of a dessert I tried at Ink. Some people complain about the prices here, but being in South Bay, I’m not quite sure if these people venture off to other restaurants outside the South Bay for great quality food. Someone on Open Table gave this a two-star review complaining about the price and said«it’s no Flemings!» I hate Flemings. Yes, the steak here is pricier than Mastro’s in Beverly Hills, but the other items here are more moderately priced. They steak is prime, 30-day dry aged, and might be reason for the price difference. One other review who complained about the price, said that they charge for bread. This is not unusual if you eat at any of the top restaurants in the city who also charge for bread. The Executive Chef, Josh Shaw, came out to speak with us and I could tell how much passion he has for his cooking. Originally from OC, he spent some time working in NYC to reopen Tavern and the Green and now back to the Southland at Steak & Whisky. Chef has been in the business since he was 15 starting out washing dishes at Ciao in Huntington Beach. He also spent some time working at Mélisse, one of the few Michelin-rated restaurants in Los Angeles. I was surprised to here he worked alongside Chef Brendan Collins over at now shuttered Waterloo & the City, which was probably my most favorite gastropub in the city. I can’t believe Shaw is only 27 and heading up this kitchen. I’m excited to see him five years from now. I love that you can have a meal as good as what you’ll find closer to LA proper. The service and food here is on point. It’s just getting the people who aren’t quite used to this caliber of food to embrace it. I love that you can come in to this upscale restaurant in a t-shirt and flip flops to enjoy a great meal. Steak & Whisky is a gem for those that live in the South Bay, and don’t want to trek to Downtown LA or Silver Lake for a meal at a similar restaurant. I’m not quite sure you can find a similar non-chain steak restaurant in this area. I enjoyed my dining experience here more so than Republique for dinner. Highly recommended! Recommended items: Japanese wagyu steak, french onion soup, hamachi, steak tartare, fresh bread, charcuterie, panna cotta, any of the cocktails(especially the one with the beef chip).

WAYOVERPRICED. New small intimate restaurant near the beachside. Cozy and great for dates. Here are some food pictures. Appetizers House Bread(5) — straus butter, sea salt Steak Tartare(18) — pickled cucumber, chive, dijon, red curry, soft egg ciabata Entrees Kurobata Short Rib(26) — white polenta, braised greens, shoyu glaze Bone-in Filet(56) —(18 oz prime, 30 day dry age) Jidori Chicken Duo(28) — thigh and breast, artichoke, black garlic, truffle jus, celery root purée Sides Foie Gras(21) Bone Marrow(10) Cauliflower Risotto(8) Mac and Cheese(10) Grilled Asparagus(10) Dessert Maple Panna Cotta(8) German Chocolate Cake(8) Strawberry Shortcake(8) Onto the critiques: 1. Too damn expensive for the taste of the food. Some were good, some not so great. But nothing was amazing. The best thing was probably the cauliflower risotto. 2. Who charges money for house bread?! It’s either complimentary or it’s not on the menu. And 5 bucks for 4 tiny rolls of bread? Pass. 3. The chef is Asian so all the dishes are Asian influenced. We tasted Asian flavors before even being told the chef was Asian. So expect American food with an Asian twist. 4. Picture of the menu on Unilocal is different and prices are updated. No menu on their site yet. 5. Get the steak, chicken, risotto, asparagus. Pass on the strawberry shortcake and mac and cheese. Everything else is in between. Meh.I just don’t think it’s worth the price.

Is it just me or does pretty much every new American hip restaurant contain an «&» sign in their name? This is a new upscale steakhouse in Hermosa Beach brought to you by Chef Tin Vuong who is also the chef of Abigaile(Hermosa Beach) and Little Sister(Manhattan Beach). My husband and I checked it out last week for dinner when it had been open for about 13 days so they were still kinda working out the kinks. I think they’re still adding some more cocktails to the menu and changing things up a bit, but nevertheless, we had a good experience. For cocktails, I tried the Queen’s Cup and my husband got Bill the Butcher which was definitely the better drink of the two. The Queen’s Cup was a little too herby for me with the basil. I liked Bill the Butcher more because it featured an earl-grey infused whiskey! So unique and I loved how it tasted. For food, we shared the following: — Roasted Beets: delicious!!! We loved this. Great presentation and flavor profile. Loved how it tasted with the yoghurt and truffle oil. I’d get this again for sure. — Grilled Asparagus: the asparagus itself was just A-OK. But I DID like how it came with the crispy shallots! Added a delightful crunch and needed flavor. — Porterhouse: this is a 22 oz. 30-day dry-aged piece of meat. It was huge and definitely more than enough for the two of us. Honestly, I wasn’t too impressed by the steak. It ain’t no Mastros. But it was pretty tasty. We also got 2 sauces on the side to try with the steak — the bearnaise and the chimichurri but I didn’t really care for either. My favorite thing was this fresh wasabi that came with it! — Japanese Wagyu Ribeye — we just ordered 2 ounces just to try it. My husband loved it but I actually didn’t like it at all. I couldn’t have more than one bite because my palate doesn’t prefer foods that are too fatty or rich. It’s really about personal preference though. If you’ve never tried wagyu, this is a good place to try it. Our server told us the guy who does the wagyu here won 1st place in some kind of competition in Japan for it. Service was wonderful! Our server, Richard was really friendly and knowledgable about the menu. :) Parking: street/meter or public parking garages nearby.

Came here for dinner the second Monday it was open. When our waiter told us that they had just been opened for 7 days my husband said that it’s too bad because«we don’t like to wait that long». You can tell that the place is a new place because they haven’t quite got their timing down yet(from the check in the process to the food preparation.) To start its a very small, intimate place — maybe it could seat less than 100max if even 80. The waiter you can tell has been trained and coached very well with the menu and the history and preparation behind each dish. With a couple more weeks of practice he will know it like the back of his hand and recite the menu and discuss the menu with more ease. To start I had their bone marrow– I liked it. Not as much marrow as I had had at other places but there’s not a lot of restaurants around here that offers bone marrow so I will take whatever I can get! The Mr got their«must have French onion soup” — it was oniony(lots and lots of onions) and there was a lot of brandy in it. He thought it was okay but would not order it again. Perhaps he was because he was under the weather? Their house bread was okay, it reminds me of the pao de queijo at Abigaile’s around the corner(it’s owned by the same people) — however the house bread here was not as good. But their butter was awesome! If you are deciding between the bread and something else I would recommend picking something else. The Mr ordered me a glass of red wine(I forgot what it was) and he had asked for ice tea as he was sick and I did not think alcohol was going to help him. They did not have tea. But the waiter promised that they are working on that. We shall see. I ordered their filet and he had their chops(I forgot if it was lamb chops or pork chops… Once I get clarification I will update the detail on his dish here. For now you can just go by the photo that I took the other day). I ordered the peppercorn and bernaise sauce to go with my dish. They were both very good. I think I liked the bernaise sauce more! The filet was very yummy! I will definitely get it again when I am in the mood for steak! I also ordered the mash potatoes as my side, omg it was very very good! Nice, rich and creamy. The Mr did not care for it because he likes his mash«fluffy»(you know what I’m taking about!). Though he did finish his dish he said he couldn’t quite remember it the next day I think when you are sick everything pretty much would just taste«okay». We will give this another go when they have straightened out all the kinks. The feedback is that dinner took over 2 hours. The food took forever to come out and our waiter was very apologize and offered to get us dessert however my husband was too tired and I was much too full. Even if the dessert was free– it still would have been a waste if didn’t feel like eating it. But it was such a nice gesture none the less. I would give this place 3.5 but don’t feel it yet had earned a 4 star. I will be back and update my review then. Cheers!
