Went last Thursday for the first time. The special was a great deal. It was a steak, one big shrimp, an enchilada, chile relleno, and a taco plus a margarita for $ 15. Steak and shrimp was good. Enchilada was tough. Too thick of a corn tortilla or something. Chile relleno was alright and the taco was good. Our server asked if we wanted chips and salsa, we said no. Then another server brought them to us anyway and charged us $ 1! This is the first Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to that charges for chips and salsa. They are usually complimentary. Not happy we got charged when we said we didn’t want them. Margaritas were good and strong. The taco had the option of chicken or beef. I said chicken and got beef anyway. It was good shredded beef though. Luckily I read on the menu where military gets 10% discount because we asked for it after all that. The food was good but not super impressed from the overall first impression. We MIGHT go back.

The best part of this so called Mexican restaurant is their steaks. Mexican food is microwaved and they charge for a very small bowl of chips. If you know what real excellent Mexican food is supposed to taste like I would say don’t go here!

I love this place. The food, the people — this truly is the best place to eat in Sierra vista. And the margaritas are amazing!

The food and service is very good here. I enjoyed the shredded beef tacos with beans and rice. Hubby had their cheeses enchiladas and liked them very much.

The food took a long time to come out but the waitress was nice and kept us updated. Once it came out, the food was really good.

The food and service was rather disappointing. We expected the food and service to be excellent. Our food was covered in cheese and when we told the waitress she gave us attitude. The only perks about this place are the ambiance and the portions.

We were looking for a more authentic Mexican restaurant near Sierra Vista and you can literally see the lights in Mexico from Ricardo’s at night. Might as well have gone to Taco Bell. The service was slow and the food seemed microwaved. The authenticity was like that of a sinking Don Pablo’s in upstate New York. At least we can say we tried it. We will not be going back.

We’ve eaten from Ricardo’s the last two weekends. Last weekend I ordered chili relleno with rice and beans. AWFULAWFULAWFUL! Greasy and nasty and the seeds weren’t cleaned from the chili. We thought we would give them an another chance. Last night I ordered A chicken topopo salad with strict instructions for NOGUACAMOLE since I am very allergic. We had this order as take out. When we got home, there was guacamole on both orders! It is a 30 minute drive to the restaurant. this is just unacceptable. We will never go there again.

I go to Ricardos every time I visit Sierra Vista. If you want authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. Staff is very friendly and they’re always on top of things. The only negative thing I have to say is when they run out of real tortillas they give you the store bought kind(yuck) but that has only happened once thankfully. Try the carne machaca and the beef tacos!

Tonight was our first time to eat at Ricardo’s. The hostess was polite and the server was knowledgable and quick. My husband got the carnitas platter. The pork was seasoned perfectly. I got nachos off the appetizer menu. They have so much stuff that halfway through I had to start using a fork. This is a great thing. There’s nothing worse than empty chips. We will be back often.

FINALLY some good mexican food down here. Ricardos burned down in the summer of 2011, and this is its rebuilt version. The layout of the restaurant is really weird, and the waiting area is pretty small. The food, however, is really the best Mexican food you will find in sierra vista/hereford. I ordered a combo plate, and hubby got a steak and tacos. The chile relleno in my combo plate was one of the best I have ever eaten. light crispy batter, and delicious gooey cheese. Everything I ate I was happy with. my husbands steak was grilled to perfection and delicious. I also had a cadillac margarita, which was strong, just how I like them. My only real gripe was how long we waited for our food. It was a busy night, and apparently we had a large group ahead of us, but no one told us until we said something about the wait.

So most of you all know by now that Ricardo’s burnt down in the 2010 Monument Fires and they have rebuilt and reopened. So like many people before and after us, we had to go and check it out. The experience was not the same. The new layout of the restaurant is very weird open and loud. The bar is way in the back and not visible from the front of the restaurant and is also very small. The staff seemed overworked and disorganized. We waited 30 minutes for a table and it was about 7:30 — 8:00pm. We had several servers come by and offer the same things. It was getting annoying. Our food took almost an hour to arrive. They kept bringing baskets of chips and salsa to make up for the timing of the entrees. Note they charge for the first basket of chips-so beware. Everything seemed dry and overcooked and not as tasty as I remember it. I told my husband that I’m in no hurry to return. Sorry Ricardo’s; maybe it’s the new wait staff or chefs that you had to hire, but for a family owned business who’s been doing it for years, I would think it would be a no brainer to pick up where you left off.

So, Ricardo’s has reopened. I decided to stop by tonight. I was a fan previously. I’m not liking the new layout. The dining room is a large open room and the tables don’t have any privacy, unlike the old place. Maybe it was because the old place was always really dark and this new place isn’t. Overall, the service was bad. The waiter was inattentive, forgetful and seemed to not know what he was doing. I had to ask for straws 3 times. When the waiter finally gave me straws, he only gave me 2, even though there were 3 people. I had to ask for chips 3 times before I received my basket of stale chips. The busboy refilled our drinks and he switched glasses on us, so I was drinking out of my son’s and he was drinking out of mine. The food was slow coming out. Nobody enjoyed their food. My sirloin was bland and boring. And finally, you now have to stand in line to pay for your food at the front of the restaurant. What is this, Denny’s? Lame.

Ricardo’s burned to the ground today in the Monument Fire. Firefighters had to abandon the scene due to fears of the propane tank exploding. Image above. Hurry back Ricardo’s.
