I found out about this place via group on coupon. My gf and I came on a Saturday evening and wow. On the weekends they offer all you can eat sushi at a flat rate. Really?! Who would want to eat so much sushi?! OMG…Bruh and ladies! When the smoke cleared and my 2nd visit, I completely understand. I lost count of how many pieces of sushi I ate. Its so damn good. As I type this review I’m getting hungry. Our server was pretty awesome. She was very polite and answered all of our questions. And yes I had a lot of questions. Lol Ex… Is this really all you can eat? I can order this and that… plus this? After putting up with my numerous questions. She got a good tip from us. A couple of my favorites are the Charlottesville roll, Richmond roll and Rainbow roll. The miso soup and clear soup was very delicious. I had 3 servings. And let me not forget… they offer Sake! The atmosphere is very pleasant and sociable. They have flat screen TVs on the walls for you to watch just in case your company is boring you. It is a kid friendly environment so families are welcomed. I would totally recommend this place to my friends and family.

I wish I didn’t love this place as much as I do… it doesn’t look good for my waistline or wallet! This place is great though, so obviously they are known for their sushi. It’s all you can eat and that includes, specialty rolls, regular rolls, items off of their hibachi menu, appetizers(soup, spring rolls, etc.), a salad bar, and dessert. It is a great deal, we always leave stuffed and satisfied. The place is huge as well, so great for large groups, kids, families, etc. It’s never too loud and the staff is friendly nice, and are eager to get you your next plate. However it can be a bit slow in between orders. It’s almost enough time to digest and realize you can’t eat another bite, but they have so many delicious options its hard to stop there! It is not the best sushi I have ever had but it is pretty darn good and for $ 20 for dinner it’s definately a great value. I will be back(probably sooner than I should!)

I’m surprised this place has only a 3 ½ star average, but I could see why based on quality. It isn’t the BEST sushi ever, but the rolls are plentiful(BEWAREOFOVER-ORDERING on the all you can eat buffet!!!). ALSO, you get to choose anything from the appetizer and entrée menus if you do the all-you-can-order(includes dumplings, fried tempura veggies, STEAK, shrimp hibachi, etc). Come during lunch for the best bang for your buck. I went with a group of friends some months ago and it was around $ 12 for lunch, plus I flashed my phone for their Facebook deal that gave me 10% off by showing my old VCU student ID(shhhh!!! I can still pass as 21, soooo…) Anyway, I’ve been here twice or so thus far and it’s a good option for a cheap sushi fix if you’re near Richmond, VA.

Thinking maybe this was a fluke? Hoping it was at least. We came for lunch on Valentine’s Day, because nothing says romance like all you can eat sushi, right? All joking aside, when we got there, there were only a few other couples seated. We placed our order for our appetizer and first rolls, and made our way to the self-serve buffet. I sampled the smoked salmon roll, the jalepeno yellowfin, and another peppered tuna thing(that had a complementary human hair). All of which were okay. Minus the hair of course. Quantity over quality at establishments like this, right? If I’d eaten a lot of semi-decent sushi, I would have rated 3 – 4 stars. Instead, for $ 18.99/per person, I had two rolls. Why only two rolls at an all-you-can-eat restaurant you ask? Well because I had to leave to make it to my unborn grandchildren’s college graduation. I think the strategy is to take 45 minutes between each roll so that you give up and leave. The two rolls that I did have were bland and tasteless. So if you don’t have quality, and you don’t have quantity, what do you have? Maybe come for a weekday lunch when it’s only $ 11.99. But unless you have hours on end to donate to Sushi King, I have a hard time rationalizing actually even breaking even on your money. Side note: the staff was all very kind. They gave out little plastic roses and took our photos on a polaroid for Valentine’s day. A glass of wine was complementary to each couple. Hoping it was just Valentine’s Day to blame, but they weren’t even that busy when we arrived. IF I worked nearby during the work week, I might would consider returning.

New set up is strange cause you can tell it was a group place next door that they just took over. They also transitioned the appetizers to an all you can eat style buffet and it makes me severely distrustful of eating anything that’s perishable on that table(which is everything…). The sushi was also smaller and not cold when it reached out table. It was a decently busy night, but when you serve raw meat, you probably should be fairly timing about your service… The long story short: new updates does not mean it’s a good update. Be wary of the appetizer bar and sushi served at room temperature. Disappointing considering their decent start as an all you can eat sushi place.

ALLYOUCANEATSUSHIYASSSS. My friends and I drove 85 miles there and back just to eat at Sushi King. So you already know how much I love this place. If you’re going to eat here, clear at least four hours out of your schedule just to eat. You can order six rolls(?) at a time, but expect that the wait time for those rolls will be longggggg(each«g» in long is five minutes, so yeah it’s really long). The only downsides being the distance and the wait time, the sushi is probably up there with Sushi Para but… that’s for another review. I think per person, depending on what time you arrive the price range is $ 11 – 17. Go my Unilocalers, go fill your tummy with cheap AYCE sushi.

I feel like this place has taken a turn for the worse. The sushi tastes much worse than it used to, the redesigned menu doesn’t add anything new, the new«salad bar» is a waste of time, the few good desserts were replaced with crappy pound cake and poor ice cream, and the service on this occasion sucked. Shame I bought two Groupons, I have to suffer through this again at some point. I’m a man without a sushi place again.

When this place first opened, I thought, no way, a sushi buffet??? Doesn’t sound like it could be possible to do that and keep the quality above par. At 16.95, it was a bit of a reach but I tried it anyway. And again. And again. And again. I loved the service, the food, and the speed with which our food was consistently served. The waiters and waitresses always seem to have everything under control. The food has never been mixed up, and they’re always eager to explain anything they can on the menu. The place is clean, the bathrooms are pretty clean for a place that has a buffet style concept, and they are always packed. A good sign. The décor was already good but they renovated he place and added more room. And STILL there is a wait. The only thing I dislike now is that the price has increased so much, I won’t be going back there as often. I used to go at least two to three times a month– translating into roughly 24 – 36 times a year. Since the price increase, I’ve only gone once in the last two months. That averages out to about 6 times a year. Instead of making at least $ 406 a year from me, now they’re making $ 113. Not much on an individual basis but calculate that for about 1000 people a year. They lose out on a difference of at least $ 293,000 annually. And that’s assuming they only get a 1000 people a year. Instead of trying to make an extra two dollars off of each transaction, why not keep the prices two dollars lower and keep your clientele? And make an extra quarter of a million dollars?

Sushi King has an awesome concept – all you can eat sushi and other entrees for $ 11.99 during lunch hours. The menu looked pretty good, the food was okay, but I did not have a good experience. I go into more detail below, but basically, I told them I was allergic to crab, they gave me a crab roll, I ate it because I thought it was shrimp, and I had an allergic reaction.* Aside from the allergic reaction, here’s my review of the specific sushi rolls I ordered or tried from someone else’s plate: Las Vegas Roll-This was awesome. It had salmon and cream cheese; they fried the entire roll and topped it generously with eel sauce and their special mayonnaise. Philadelphia Roll-This was okay, but nothing special. Tokyo Roll-One of my friends got this, and I’m glad I only tried a piece. It had mango, cucumber, and avocado, and was topped with fried banana and mango sauce. I’ll give them points for creativity, but it just turned out way too sweet for sushi. Fried Rice-I got both vegetable and shrimp because there was miscommunication with the waitress(I asked her which was better and she said shrimp, so I ordered shrimp, but she interpreted that as both). Not the highest quality fried rice I’ve ever had, but it was all you can eat, so I can only expect so much. This was the last dish I ordered, so I was getting full. But with two orders of fried rice, there was no way I could finish-I already felt a bit sick from eating so much. The waitress was about to charge me for it(they charge you if you don’t eat enough food, I assume to discourage customers from ordering everything on the menu just to try it), but luckily, my friends came to my rescue and ate it for me. *Crunchy Roll-I had to order this twice, because even though the menu says it comes with shrimp, it came out with crab in it(which I’m allergic to). I informed the waitress of my allergy, and she promptly returned with a new roll, which I ate. Turns out that the new sushi roll with shrimp really had imitation crab in it. Two hours after eating it, I broke out in hives, and spent the entire weekend taking Benadryl and hoping the hives wouldn’t turn into something worse. Luckily, that didn’t happen, but I was NOT happy about the situation. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Sushi King.

Sorry Sushi king. You used to be one of my favorite places to eat. But now I literally can’t eat here. Since they’ve expanded, changed the menu, and put all of the sushi appetizers on a self service bar. I can’t eat rice, so I basically go in and order the sushi appetizers only. But now I have to go up to the self serve bar, and fight other people for enough food to make my meal. Not to mention, they don’t keep the bar stocked, so it sits empty for a while, and sometimes I went up, and there wouldn’t even be any food to get. And after not getting anything several times, I asked the lady behind the counter if she could refill the black pepper tuna, and she said no, there is no more black pepper tuna tonight… How horrible. :/ So again. Sorry Sushi king. But I am literally not able to eat here any more.

Ah Sushi King. I’ve been here twice in six months, and I will come back at least one more time in the next four months, thanks to Groupon. When you want as much sushi as you can eat, you come here. You’re not looking to be a sushi snob, you just want it all in your belly, and for a good price! Some of the sushi I had included: Charlottesville Roll CA Roll Dynamite Roll Hollywood Roll Crazy Monkey Las Vegas Roll Richmond Roll The least flavorful rolls were the Hollywood and Crazy Monkey Roll. Very plain, which works for those patrons who don’t like any eel sauce or mayo on top of it. The Charlottesville was the most popular, as our party had to order multiple of these. We also had edamame, scallops, and shrimp tempura. It did take a while for our rolls to come out, but they were rather crowded the last time I went. Plus, that gives your stomach time to put away your current rolls. Bottom line, come hungry, leave stuffed.

*My full review of the Sushi King chain can be found at the Love Sushi King page: The Richmond Sushi King now offers a raw bar like the Charlottesville location, which(unfortunately) means that ice cream flavors like red bean and green tea are not offered anymore at this location. Unlike the Charlottesville location however, the bar here does not offer any oysters. After having time to peruse the menu more thoroughly for vegetarian items this visit, I added the vegetable yakisoba noodles to my order. They were a lot greasier than I expected, but I forced myself to finish them in order to avoid the extra food waste coverages. The noodles come on a small plate, but make no mistake, it is one large serving of food. As a result, I was so full after my meal that I sadly didn’t make it back to the raw bar, where the best«menu» items are, for seconds. I’ll definitely have to forgo some of the menu items in the future to eat more of the self-serve items. Lastly, Sushi King has also expanded into the former frozen yogurt store next door. This upgrade along with the addition of the raw bar continues to make Sushi King the prime spot in town for affordable all-you-can eat sushi.

I never thought I’d be giving five stars to a buffet, but Sushi King has really stepped up their game. On my last visit, I noticed their menu charged quite a bit. They have streamlined their menu and moved a lot of the cold appetizers over to a cold bar. The tuna appetizer I didn’t like last time was so much better this time! Also the sushi presentation is out of this world now. The plate was decorated with flowers, a fence, an igloo with colored lights underneath! The quality of the wish seemed much better as well.

AYCE for a reasonable price!($ 17.99 for dinner– use a student ID for a 15% discount) If you’re looking for decent sushi, and a variety of other foods like hibachi, salads and other Asian appetizers, this is the place for you. They also have random foods like corn dogs… The speciality sushis all about taste the same to me! I do not recommend getting the rolls with fruit though because they taste kind of weird. I really liked the dragon roll and the dynamite roll. I also love the sushi appetizers! I order all of them when I go. Please make sure to order what you can eat. This hasn’t happened to me yet but they may charge for unfinished food. Also, make sure to try the ice cream! The ice cream is very soft and yummy!

There are a lot of positives to Sushi King. For starters, its an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant. That in itself it amazing to me. But you need to keep in mind that the pieces will be small, and you won’t have an unlimited list of options. That said, I definitely feel like I got everything I wanted. I went to Sushi King for lunch one day. The total cost was $ 11.99(or $ 16.99 for dinner(, and you could order as much off the menu as you liked. The menu includes classic and special rolls an nigiri sushi, as well as appetizers(like seaweed salad, tempura, and dumplings), kitchen entrees(fried rice, noodles, and hibachi), and desserts(green tea ice cream!!). You can place your order all at once, or order in phases, but keep in mind the wait time between each order. I personally do not suggest waiting until you finish to order more. The service was nice, albeit a little slow, but they were very busy at that time of day. I cannot speak to the dinner menu(not sure if there are more options for the higher price) or experience, but I enjoyed myself for lunch and would go again.

I’ve been to a lot of high end sushi/Asian buffets with prices as high as $ 35 for dinner. Sushi King is only $ 17.99!!! I’ve also been to many half priced sushi places and of them all, Sushi King is by far the best bang for the buck. I like that Sushi King is all you can eat because imo, when you’re waited on by a server, it feels a little more upscale. For example, I would never bring a first date to a buffet, but I would definitely bring one to sushi king. Speaking of special occasions the atmosphere is somewhat contemporary and the ambience is quite nice. As for the food, I’ll admit some of the other places that I’ve been may have had slightly better quality rolls and sashimi, but the difference wasn’t enough to to justify the price. One of the things that I like most about Sushi King is that they also have a nice selection of crazy house special rolls. And that’s where I make a killing! Haha. Speaking of the rolls, they’re not double wrapped in rice like most buffets tend to do. Most important, when you place an order, they allow you to order 3 or 4 things at a time and they’re also pretty good at taking your next order and timing it to come out, so your not waiting long. So as I said in the beginning, there are definitely better quality/high end sushi places out there, but Sushi King is pretty damn good for what it is. So why go elsewhere and pay double, triple, or even quadruple the price???

Do not let the outside or location detour you from going inside. This place was welcoming, open space with wonderful light and beautiful décor. Now we good to the amazing part, the lunch all you can eat menu. Was amazing full of not only what you would expect but so much more. It had all the regular rolls along with the chef specialities. And much more than you would want. Make sure to not order with your eyes and finish the food there is an additional charge for uneaten food, but it was so worth it. Volcano and sea angel rolls are delightfully full of flavor and crunch. I hope to enjoy many more experiences here along with yours as well.

Sushi King is a great place if you like to eat a lot of so-so sushi. I like to compare their offerings to that of Martin’s or Kroger… the fish is okay and most of the rolls are covered in sauce or tempera. Sometimes this is all you need and for those times, Sushi King is the pace to go! For $ 17.99 a person, you can eat all the sushi, appetizers, entrees, and dessert you want. So, if you can eat more than three rolls and you aren’t looking for a high end sushi night, Sushi King is a good deal. Some tips: Order a lot on your first order. They seem to take a long time between bringing your first and second order… perhaps to let you feel full? Don’t waste stomach space on drinks/water. They do get busy, so going early helps. Cheers!
