Everything was on point. Nick was a a great bartender. The drinks and food were prompt and fresh. The atmosphere was nice. The guests had a good vibe about them. All-day Happy Hour on Sunday… yes please! I don’t particularly like Kona, but this location has changed my mind. I was really impressed.

Love this place! Every time I go they never disappoint! Sushi is always fresh and the flatbread pizza is to die for. I alway sit at the bar and get nothing but great service. Staff is super friendly and every now and then I see managers check in on guess which is a real plus with me. Great atmosphere for any occasion, date or just a nice drink alone.

I thought this place was awesome. Great food. Great service. The crowd was decent as well. No complaints. This was the second time we’ve been here, and it’s always busy. However, the service doesn’t lack because of the tempo of the evening.

5 Stars this evening! We had a fantastic experience at Kona Grill! Jake was absolutely so knowledgeable and so kind. He knows so much and can absolutely provide a wonderful experience on an evening that needed to get better. The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect. Thanks to the fine folks at Kona Grill!

My first time eating here and wasn’t very impressed with the food. I shared a shrimp tempura roll with the hubby for an appetizer and I thought it was good but not great. My husband thought it was mediocre. Just wasn’t very fresh — tasted like it was sitting out for a while. I ordered the Pad Thai noodles with shrimp and that was just ok. The kids seemed to enjoy their meals though. My oldest had the jambalaya and said it was good and my youngest had the chicken tenders kids meal that came with 2 small chicken strips. The portions are small and they really could’ve added 1 more strip to the box. My son was still hungry after his meal so he finished my noodles. The place has nice décor and the bathroom was spotless. Staff is friendly and helpful. Bar service was painfully slow.

I’ve only been during their happy hour and reverse happy hour. I think the concept of having a reverse happy hour is awesome! Their food is decent, their atmosphere is relaxing, the staff are kind, and the restaurant is always clean. I usually get the avocado egg rolls and calamari. If you’re into sushi rolls, flatbreads, and other seafood dishes, I would recommend trying this place out. If you’re on a budget, I recommend going during one of their two happy hours.

The reverse happy hour is a really fantastic deal! But the taste of the food varies. Crab crunch rolls were awesome. No complaints! Rice was cooked well and the filling was fresh. The avocado egg rolls were rather bland. Avocados taste great by themselves! But this dish really needed something, even with the(thin) dipping sauce present. Or at least have salt available at the table, as the soy sauce isn’t practical for this kind of item. The burger sliders are in the same league: cooked well, but bland. Good visual presentation all around.

I have been coming to this place for like 4 years. Happy hour is the best bang for your buck. I love the Atlantic roll, Crab crunch roll, BBQ Chicken flatbread, Margarhita flatbread, and the sliders. I also love splitting the calamari. At this point, I have tried the whole happy hour menu. These are the best stuff on it: For drinks I always get the Sangria. They have 3 types of sangria. Flavor doesn’t matter to me because each one tastes so good. If I could make this myself believe me I would. I think Happy Hour is from 4 – 7 and Reverse happy hour is until 9-close. This is a good place to go to with a couple of friends but not a big group. It gets hectic with big groups. Other than that its a great place to come to when you want good drinks and apps after a crazy day.

Consistently good food and service. My family goes fairly often for reverse happy hour, during which a large selection of sushi, appetizers, and entrée items are half priced. To participate in reverse happy hour you must sit on the bar side of the restaurant and because you seat yourself sometimes you have to sit around/stalk a table for awhile before you can find one. Don’t be scared away by it being called«the bar side» because there are many regular sized tables and always families over there. I highly recommend the BBQ flatbread and the French fries. For those of you with children, the kids menu is very impressive and offers a wide variety and a good portion size.

I’ve been to this Kona Grill many times, but this past Sunday was the worst service I’ve ever had there. Albeit, we had a group of 9, the server we had was totally inept at customer service. We asked to order drinks, asked him what the happy hours specials were and he had no idea, nor the price. Later we ordered sushi as an appetizer… it came out quickly. I hen asked for soy sauce and a soy sauce dish and he brought me the dish quickly… but I then waited 15 minutes for soy sauce, and he only got it because he came back to my table without it and I had to remind him. These experiences were pretty much par for the entire service and 2 hours later we paid our bill and left. While singing the receipt, a waitress from the bar came with a beer I ordered 45 minutes earlier. I was beyond ready to leave, and maybe i will return one day, but not soon. Fortunate the food was great as always. Just wish it matched the service.

The Calamari was excellent where it almost melted in your mouth… not chewy which I can’t stand. The sauce was very good too. I had the Ahi, and it was cooked perfectly but didn’t have much taste on the outside. It could have used a little salt, spices, soy sauce marinade, or something. It was like a slab of Ahi thrown on the grill. The wine selection wasn’t too bad. The Long Island Tea was not well done. It was like that restaurant mix that only uses 1.5−2 oz of alcohol with mostly sweet/sour mix, etc. Very diluted like most restaurants do. Don’t waste your money on mixed drinks here… stick with the wine. I plan to be in town once a month, I hope you make the Ahi taste a little more than a slab of fish on the grill. Marinade it or something.

Kona Grill is alright. I’ve had better sushi. They do have a great happy hour menu though. Half off some sushi rolls and a happy hour price for others. Happy hour can only be ordered in the bar area. My bartender Holly was great though! Ask for her, she’ll take care of you!

Great happy hour menu considering how great their deals are! I loved the Atlantic roll along with their Wave roll. The servers are pretty nice and has a casual atmosphere with heated outdoor seating. Don’t think I’d join to dine during regular hours, but for happy hour– count me in!

Sue me, call me basic, or whatever it is you need to do but I actually love Kona Grill! And when in doubt for what’s for dinner, I recommend Kona Grill! I only have ordered from the happy hour menu, but you can’t beat the happy hour prices nor late night hours. The happy hour appetizer doesn’t change as often as it should though. Regardless, I have tried about everything on the happy hour menu. Some reviewed here: Lettuce wraps: filling, so good I copied the recipe and made it at home Bulgogi Tacos: on the drier side. What is up with the shell? An unusual taco shell/crust/bun. Margarita flatbread: a greasy classic Barbecue chicken flatbread: yum, if you don’t mind onions Avocado eggrolls: paired with a sweet sauce makes it one of my go-to dishes Chicken satay: 4 small skewers atop a salad with 2 sides of sauce. You get more sauce than chicken Potstickers: taste like the frozen ones from Tan-A market, but I’m in regardless Calamari: salty, too breaded Ahi-Tuna Crisp: light, one of the least bang for your buck entrees

This is a very generous four stars. I would probably rate Kona as a 3.5 stars at best. I frequent Kona a lot… but if I’m being brutally honest, Kona is only worth going to during late night happy hour(10 pm-close during the weekday or all day Sunday). Other than that, the food is pretty overpriced for the quality and portion. I know it’s a sushi bar, but I especially wouldn’t order the sushi. Nevertheless, let’s move onto the good! 1. BBQ chicken flatbread. For the happy hour price, it’s a sharing size portion and really tasty. The flat bread itself is very crispy and the BBQ has a nice kick to it. Definitely something to try. 2. Spinach Artichoke dip. Warm, gooey cheese with tortilla? Ding ding ding, we have a winner. 3. Bulgogi Tacos. The shell is definitely what makes this taco. It’s so different. Flakey and crispy, I was pleasantly surprised. Honorable mentions: 1. Lettuce wraps– sauce is a little salty and they skimp on the lettuce…(you will get charged for extra lettuce) The filling however is pretty good. 2. Cheeseburger Sliders — cute and dainty but nothing special. If I’m super hungry, I tend to opt for this special 3. Grilled Apple and Brie flatbread — it’s pretty good. almost dessert-like. I don’t order it too often, but when I do, I’m pretty satisfied.

So, this was my 1st time here. Their happy hour gave me life! So many options! The drinks were great. And the food… hooray for avocado egg rolls and the goat cheese and corn flatbread. There is also a variety of sushi rolls for half price. I will surely be enjoying this place again!

Go, gooooo, to Richmond gooooo And look for some food to eat! East, West Broad, and boy, oh lawd Did we find such a treat! And so goes the place they call Kona Grill. We took a stab at eating there since the Short Pump area is so full of great eating places. I had always heard about good things in terms of the food… so let’s try it out! I ordered the Macadamia Nut Chicken, wifey had the Soft Shell Crab Roll w/salad. I was thinking: «Ok, let’s get this bland eatinpalooza on…» But, upon the first bite of my meal, I was in nirvana! The chicken was moist, tasty, full of flavor and the side of marmalade added to the mouth-gasm I was having. The miso soup was also very good. =] Then, after I rendered total damage to the dinner plate, we moved on to desert which was much more than expected! The key lime pie crust was encrusted with macadamia nuts… absofrickinlutely awesome! And to top it all off, we had the BEST service I’ve ever had at a restaurant in quite sometime. Our waiter was totally cool as well as the manager. This establishment is a top notch dining experience with some cool décor to boot. If you’re ever in the Richmond area and you’re in search of a good night eating, this is definitely the place! Thanks Kona for a great night. Now if the one in Arlington is as good… muahahahahahaaaaaa!

Kona is a great place to go for sushi in the West End. I personally find it to be a little expensive, but they have good quality sushi, and if you sit in the bar area, they have amazing Happy Hour specials(including discounted sushi). It would be nice, though, if you could get the deals in the restaurant as well. Its hard to find a spot during HH, and if you aren’t in the bar area, you don’t get any of the deals. My son LOVES the kids meals at Kona. You get an entrée with choice of two sides and it comes with an orange cut like a panda bear. Its really cute. My complaint with the kids meal is the lack of vegetable sides. They have plenty of starchy options(fries, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, rice, etc.), but as far as veggies go, its a side salad or carrots. Wish they added something like broccoli. My go-to is to get the Sushi Sampler. It comes with a side salad, 3 – 4 pieces of sushi and a roll(note, it says California Roll, but you can switch and pay the difference which is usually only 50 cents more). I think their side salads are amazing and overall its a very filling dish.

Happy hour at Kona is a good deal! They offer some sushi rolls and flat breads for half off and appetizers for $ 6 until 7:00 on weeknights. The happy hour drinks are reasonably priced as well, we paid $ 4.75 for margaritas that were yummy. Our server came over right away and made sure to get our order in quickly as we got there about 10 minutes to 7. We sat in the heated indoor patio area that gets opened in the warmer months. It’s a great atmosphere for happy hour with coworkers or friends. We ordered the fish tacos and crab crunch sushi roll to eat and both were good but nothing spectacular. I give 3 stars for good atmosphere and good happy hour prices.
