HEMET VON’s TO CLOSE — The Von’s store on Florida and Sanderson is closing after Christmas 2014. Staff advised that the nearest Von’s store to Hemet will be in Sun City.

Vons is ok. They keep it dark in there so it’s somewhat mysterious but I think they are trying to lower their electric bill. I still find them to be pricey. They must have also been saving on their staffing costs because they only had two check-​out lanes open and the lines were snaking down the aisles. Not cool… it was mid-​day on a Friday.

Been coming to this store for 5 years now and no new complaints since last review. I’ve noticed they have gotten a little better with the expiration dates but sometimes their fruit doesn’t look too good. I usually just go to Sprouts for that. You have to be super lucky to get awesome produce here. But, they do have good deals on wine/​alcohol and numerous other items.
I would still check expiration dates though!

Mediocre store. You can save money if you buy only the advertised sales. I usually load the online coupons, but have found issues with them loading correctly on the card. Without fail, I am usually overcharged for one or two items, whether it be something I found in clearance, or a sale item. There are only 2 checkout lanes open and the checkout people are less than friendly. Recently I picked up some food from the deli, I waited patiently for 5 minutes for someone to show up (she was stocking items in the cooler) and the bakery person had to call her over. Apparently she cannot see anyone standing a few feet away. She did not wash her hands before serving my food. I asked for the manager at the checkout counter to advise her of the food handeling issue. She could have cared less. I had to explain to her that it was a violation. She could have offered to get me a fresh item but didn’t. The store deserves 1 star, and 1 star for the coupons.

The only reason I go to Von’s is for their bakery. Their rolls are the best in town, but the service is terrible. There is hardly ever someone in the dept. I have to ring the bell over and over and sometimes no one ever comes. I have to go to the front and have them paged. Also they are the slowest check out ever. Very frustrating. Anyway the bakery is good, so I will continue to go, but I buy the rest of my groceries somewhere else.

Have not had good luck with their meat dept at this Vons. First experience was when we tried to buy a couple ribeye steaks to grill that evening, and the young man at the meat counter said they were all out. We asked him if there was anyway someone could cut us a couple, and he said No, we can’t do that. Really? Okay, maybe the meat cutter was out that day. Turns out we weren’t missing much, as I subsequently bought ribeye steaks there and was not terribly pleased with the quality. Second time, my husband was craving seafood so he went to Vons and bought a lobster tail (previously frozen & thawed), took it home to throw it on the grill, and YUCK what a terrible smell when we took it out of the pkg. He tried to grill it anyway, but it was past its prime & nasty. They did give me a refund when I returned it the next day though, so that was nice of them. Just wish they had a decent meat department though, so I don’t have to drive all the way to Albertsons to find good steaks.

This is the first time I have visited the Hemet location of Vons. It was clean. I didn’t have any interaction with any staff other than Janet, the cashier – she was nice.
The prices are typically higher in a Vons, but it was refreshing to see so many yellow sales stickers, and many were BOGO Free stickers.
I originally went into this Vons for the sale on asparagus ($ 1.49/lb). I quickly discovered why they were so cheap. They looked like little wimpy sprigs of pussy willow with little heads and long, skinny sticks for bodies. Not appetizing looking at all. Left empty-​handed.

Déjà vu I’m in Safeway LOL. Yes I know it is own by the same company. The same layout as Safeway. Very limited in ethnic foods at this market though. Had a hard time finding things because it is only half an aisle. I’m use to the whole aisle easy to find stuff that way. An employee had to help me out finding items for me. It was cool that she helped me. Not to many checkout lanes though at this location. They have a island customer service booth in the middle of the checkout lanes.
Pretty clean store I’ll comeback when I’m in town again.

Always a clean store… always friendly staff. Prices are high and their coupon restrictions are ridiculous. I only go here now for items on sale (with my club card and coupons in hand) Their bakery and it’s staff are mediocre. Great location in terms of geography. Questionable crowd sometimes outside after dark.

I’m sure we’re all aware that Vons/​Safeway is known for their high prices — that shouldn’t be a shock. However, the cleanliness and shopping experience is MUCH nicer at Vons vs. your local Walmart or Stater Bros.
PROS:
Produce is always fresh, aisles are stocked well. The bread and liquor area to the right of the store are my favorites. I mean, they go hand in hand, don’t they?
Same goes for meats!
Great Gift Card center — I stop here to pick up gift cards every once in awhile.
Store design is beautiful!
Staff is typically really nice — always asking if you need help out.
CONS:
They usually only have one or two check-​out aisles open. I’ve never seen more than that.
Again, the prices are higher than average. But their quality is superb.
You have to have a membership card to save– otherwise you’re looking at paying DOUBLE what you could be paying elsewhere. These should be done away with in this day and age.
