Got our food to go but while waiting we weren’t disappointed by the environment at the restaurant. Everyone seemed really laid back and nice. Food was good, got some kind of chicken burrito bowl, not an overly large portion, I could have kept eating. But overall nothing to complain about

In town for one night decided to come by this little funky joint based on Unilocal reviews highly recommended the green Chile sauce is off the chain. I travel for work and this quite possibly is the best tamale I have had in a long time. Brad C.

I had been hearing great reviews of Karmadillos so I decided to try it for lunch today. I ordered a smothered burrito with red sauce with a side of rice and beans. The presentation of the food is awesome. It not just thrown in a to go box to get to the next order. Its smelt amazing. So five stars for presentation. The rice was mixed with tomatoes that made it pop in your mouth. The beans were black beans. They had a great taste to begin with then you got a burned/​bad tang taste. It could honestly be me though. Now on to the big show the smothered burrito. The burrito was topped with a guacamole mixed with sour cream. It was a nice touch the chicken in the burrito was seasoned very nicely. It also appeared to have more rice in the actual burrito. Now the smothering sauce was not my choice of sauces to smother a burrito in but it could have been worse.
The food to me was 4 star quality. But the young lady who took my order and the guy who rang us up had excellent customer service and seemed happy to be doing this on a Saturday. So i gave them 5 stars as that these days is hard to come by. I would go back to Karmadillos again if I had the opportunity to.

This is the place you have to discover in Helena. The food is fresh and beautifully served, they have a minimalist menu, so don’t come with a have to have attitude… believe me whatever you get will be awesome. The seating is mostly outdoor soooooo plan on good weather or some closeness. Reeders Alley is the original miner village, so it’s a lovely place to be! The salsa leans toward heat, and the nachos were phenomenal. Oh and happy hour goes 3−6pm, and then 8pm to close.

Never a good sign when you’re walking up the steps and there is mass exitous because the restaurant ran out of food at 2:15pm :(.

Nothing to complain about, food and service were great. I had 2 chicken tacos and the husband had the smothered pork burrito. The tacos were flavorful and filling. The burrito, man that thing was tasty! I plan to go back and have another one of those. Chips were ok, salsa was good. Would definitely go back.

A quaint, fun establishment with an awesome patio that looks over downtown. Friendly staff and tasty food! Highly recommend the green chili sauce and chips & salsa. Walk around Reeder’s Alley while you’re here.

Went here off a recommendation that they had incredible New Mexican food. Needless to say, it was spot on. People of Helena are very lucky to have a restaurant whose menu replicates a certain states high standards for their local cuisine. Had the chicken burrito smothered in red and green with the jicama slaw and black beans; was amazing. Price is beyond fair. View is majestic. Service was excellent. Wish I would have been here more than once. Thanks for the great food and the conversation with the owner!

If your looking for good authentic Mexican this would be a good choice! The homemade salsa was AMAZING and I probably could’ve eaten a gallon of it. I had the shredded beef tacos which were served on grilled corn tortillas and would definitely suggest them. However, don’t limit yourself to plain tacos as they have a great menu and my friends raved about their entrees as well. All in all very good little spot with a fun atmosphere right on reeder alley!

So delicious! I got a chicken salad, and the flavor was extraordinary! It was also just the right balance between light yet filling (although eating the wonderfully spiced salsa and chips may have helped with the filling part!). My husband got a burrito that was also full of flavor and goodness. So happy karmadillos is in Helena! A great place to take out of town guests or meet friends for lunch. Looking forward to warmer weather so we can sit out on the deck.

What a great little Mexican place! That fresh salsa is killer. You know it’s fresh when they pour it out of a blender. And the beef in that burrito I ordered was juicy and tender. So good. Glad we found this spot!

I absolutely love this place. Delicious sauces, they do not skimp on the portions, the price is right, and the service is top notch. It is one of those places where I want to try everything. Be sure to give their ghost pepper hot sauce a chance if you are adventurous.

Love the atmosphere of this place — from the food to the owner it was great! Very reasonable prices, the food was great, and the service fast and helpful. There is a very nice flow to the place and there is an awesome view from the balcony area on warm days!
My wife and I eat here often on date night! We are so happy Karmadillo’s is back!

Very impressed, got some tacos and soup to go, fantastic. He really gets flavors and we even geeked out about chiles. Would go with a 5, but try not to on the first visit.

The best Mexican food in Helena. My only regret is that I kept eating after I got full because it was too delicious. Friday is shrimp day and the sauce is AMAZING.

Excellent. The food was great, authentic and cooked with passion. The place has a cool, laid back vibe. Had a great chat with Justin the owner who took a real pride in the the place and the quality of food. Outdoor terrace is a great ace to hang out with a cold beer on a summer evening. A real find.

Karmadillo’s came back with a vengeance, and all of Helena should rejoice.
Helena has quite a few options for Mexican-​inspired fair, and frankly, most of them are uninspiring. However, Karmadillos is a truly a gem.
The service is always friendly and fast, even during the busy lunch rush. The food is delicious, and the portions are perfect. As other reviewers mentioned, «like» them on Facebook for the daily code words to score free chips and salsa.
If you have a little more time, swing by in the evening, order a bucket of beer, and watch the world go by from their beautiful deck in historic Reeder’s Alley.

This place is AMAZING! Not only the best in Helena, but probably the best I’ve ever had!!! And I’m from Chicago! Was here visiting on business and came across this with the help of some Unilocal reviews — it did not dissapoint!

Great food!!! Glad they are back! The only reason I give four stars is the access to the location. The cinder block stairs are are real hazard on their temporary access.
Their salads are to die for! Like them on Facebook for daily specials and «chips & salsa» give aways!
